Excellent service and lovely property

The features, history, staff, courtyard area, bed and food all very good - thank you for a good stay!
Had to swap rooms from a twin to a double on check in, even though I had requested a double in advance but easily rectified

We love everything about this icon of Mysore, a delightful jewel in a famously lovely state. We loved the high Raj-era ceilings and thick (heat-defying) walls of the ground-floor suite (a special treat), which was spacious, decorated in gorgeous period furniture and lighting fixtures, including a claw-footed bathtub with shower, and had a lovely outdoor patio looking out over their lovely, well-manicured gardens. The food is unbelievably and reliably excellent. (I will love Mysore festival rice the rest of my days.) The service is efficient, warm, and courteous. No surprise, then, that this venerable hotel of traditional South Indian grace is much-beloved by locals, for whom it is a special-occasion breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and special-occasion venue. A must-stay if you can afford it without western-style expectations, and just enjoy what unfolds around you, which is the magic of India.

wonderful breakfast buffet with lots of choices and live sax music on the patio. Evening patio dining setting was lovely
Food was still too spicy, though we asked for "low, low spice"! A common problem in South India.

Lovely building with masses of character.
Great location.
Nice courtyard restaurant and food very good.
Staff very helpful but a bit erratic at times
Indoor restaurant is echoey and has all the character of a school dining hall.
Room was very close to the restaurant, with bass from music audible from 6.50am, although I was very happy that it was turned off when I mentioned it.
Room furniture and bathroom need some maintenance/ updating.
Pool tucked away in the corner, just behind the car park, so not very inviting.

location and the architecture
time to check in needs to be improved

Beautifully restored building with a decent location just a few minutes' walk from the train station and also walkable to the Palace. I even had a dip in the pool.
We ordered lunch a la carte upon arrival, and all the food was cold when it was brought to our table - even the coffee was only luke-warm.

Breakfast very good, and location also good.
Could not have been any better.

It’s a heritage property full of character and history. I personally love these kind of well maintained and cherished buildings.
Staff were really nice and hospitable. Rooms were nice and big with big bathrooms too
I loved the balcony/terrace space my room had, to get some fresh air etc
There are a lot of details which can be improved:
-improve cleanliness (carpet in the room next to my bed was dirty, bathmat in bathroom looks dirty),
-improve finishing of fixtures in bathroom
-area next to bathtub (between it and the wall) has water overflow from the shower and looks dirty
-the wooden stool next to the bath is a safety hazard
-why is there no master switch for the lights? After switching each of the 7-8 lights off individually, I couldnt find the switch for the light behind the TV and had to sleep with it on. My friends had the same problem
-the green lighting outside was ugly- why not just retain the wonderful warm golden one?

Hotel is beautiful and well kept. Rooms are very clean with everything working as to be expected for such an establishment. Good location in Mysore.
Only downside was the staff in the restaurant. While the hotel staff and the bartender were all extremely friendly, in the restaurant we were generally ignored, with the menus thrown on the table and staff being very short and rude with us. We hoped this was a one off but when we tried to speak to two other serving staff it was a similar situation. Shame as the food was very nice.

A very positive surprise - great hotel with superb rooms and a very nice and historic ambience

Central location & very close to Mysore palace. The courtyard restaurant was very nice and the staff were very friendly.
The rooms were not as well appointed as we were given the impression. The “Royal Wing” was not regal in any way . There was a lot of noise from the railway and emergency vehicles going to the nearby hospital.

Location is good
Food inside the hotel is costlier and takes a lot of time for Ala Carta.
