The room, the hosts, the food. Excellent

A beautiful place in a tiny village. It was so quiet and peaceful. The place has been beautifully decorated - both downstairs in the bar and dining area and in the room we stayed in. We stayed on a really cold night and it had snowed overnight, but our room and the bar area were really toasty and cosy.
Lovely food, very friendly host, lovely decor.
Nothing. It was perfect.
4.2
The room was lovely
The landlord was not particularly friendly, he was disinterested, and couldn’t care less wether we were there or not.
4.2
Room was great. Large bathroom. Comfortable bed. Easy parking. Nice garden at the back.
Breakfast a little disappointing. No cereal. No fruit. Staff OK but quickly disappeared and hard to find when we wanted to check out.
4.2
Nice big room and good value.
Very quiet so look lacked some atmosphere.

The Fox and Hounds is located in a beautiful part of the country close to Rutland Water with great walks nearby.
Our room was well equipped and comfortable, although I prefer a lighter weight duvet in July. Simon and Christina (our hosts) were obliging and informative. Breakfast and evening meals (particularly the Greek option) were very good indeed, but I'm afraid that I need to eat less as I've aged!! I would have appreciated a lighter choice (say, a Continental breakfast option) to be offered. When I enquired about a lighter option our hosts offered Meusli and Greek Yoghurt which was excellent for us.
Our room was a bit dark and I'm not a big fan of "shabby chique", but many are, and this was very well done for those people.
4.2
Peaceful location and Greek cuisine
Breakfast was below par.

A period stone property full of character in a scenic village
Would not be suitable for disabled visitors

A beautifully decorated and clean room with comfortable sheets and plentiful towels. Quiet location in a pretty village and friendly staff. Courtyard parting perfect for dogs sleeping n the car. Helpful with dog walks and a great field for them to run in.
When I called I was assured the kitchen would be open for an evening meal but on arrival was informed the chef had been sent home, I had booked on this information and was slightly upset by the situation on arrival. I had been hoping for a meal at the hotel due to tiredness but ended up with an excellent meal a short drive away.

The room and facilities were excellent as was the location in relation to Rutland Water etc. The owners were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent with an interesting combination between Greek and English.
We were a bit early and although appreciating that we could not book in then it would have been helpful to have been allowed to leave our bags in the hotel until we could book in rather than having to reload them into the car in the rain.

The room was beautiful, the food excellent.

Amazing decor - someone with a real eye for colour and style. The oriental theme in our room was opulent, but carefully chosen. Especially liked the upcycled furniture. The bed and pillows (so often a let-down in hotels) were superbly comfortable - as good as at home! Plenty of space in the bedroom and bathroom - sadly didn't have time to luxuriate in the bath. Very quiet at night and lovely to wake up to the birds singing. Breakfast (at extra charge) was splendid - everything cooked really well and beautifully presented. Last but not least, Christina, our host, was most welcoming and helpful
Although both kettle and Nespresso coffee machine were provided, teabags and milk cartons were the bare minimum. To be fair, we asked for more milk and this was given with no quibble. There were several mirrors around the place, but none was placed such that I could get a good light for shaving - ended up standing in the middle of the bathroom under the main light with the hand-mirror!

Breakfast was very good and well presented
We would have liked a brighter bedside lamp for reading
4.2
Great spot for visiting the many attractions of Rutland. A lovely little village - our host was very attentive, and the food was excellent. The decor was quirky but in good taste and beds were comfortable.
A second chair in room 1 would have added to comfort.

The breakfast really let the place down!

The room was lovely and spacious and felt very welcoming.the bed was very comfortable.
It could do with a better light near a mirror to be able to do make up and a plug near a mirror to be able to dry hair.
4.2
The room was excellent, the owner was friendly

Very Good
