Beautiful property and hotel.
The bed was extremely hard and so was the pillow. If you are a light sleeper this place is not for you as it’s an old building without soundproofing, expected but just the same, slamming doors were not appreciated in the early hours of the morning.
3.9
It’s a lovely hotel, staff are very helpful and friendly. Food is really good
Some areas are needing a good clean and some need a repair and paint
We had to swap rooms on the first day - tap fell off in the bathroom, and the day before we left the mother in law had to swap rooms as there was rain coming in through her ceiling

Very good selection of breakfast for all diets. Very nice food.smell
Our room smelt very musty. Shower leaked when we eventually got it to work, hence we didn't shower. Tv channel 1 no volume.
3.9
Lovely building and easy to find location. Room was on the ground floor overlooking the garden, spacious & clean. Bed was very comfortable. Off street parking.
No privacy from the garden or street once the curtains were open.
Tv is at a strange angle to watch. A change around of the furniture (chair & wardrobe ) would fix this.
Restaurant is a bit soulless, staff need better training & give up using the microwave to warm up food.

Breakfast was excellent. Parking was easy. The room was a little tired but clean. Bathroom brand new with lots of fluffy white towels.
Bigger bed, decor in room a little tired.
3.9
Breakfast ok self service. Hotel needs complete refurbishment
The bathroom in our hotel room was very shabby. Bath panel falling off windows dirty carpet old and shabby.

Lovely place and the staff were great

Nice food, pleasant staff
Booked double room but the size of the room didn’t look like double
No problem for me as I was staying on my own
However for 2 people might be too small

Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with a nice view over the garden. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. There was ample parking.
We had visited this hotel many times over the years (pre-Covid), although previously only to dine (including a couple of visits to the Pudding Club!). With the passage of time, the residents' lounge now seems dowdy and dated, and in need of an uplift. Also, the previously stylish bar/brasserie has been replaced by a very dark room with what seem like Xmas-style lights - this might work well on a winter evening, but in high summer just seemed a bit bizarre.

Location was great....central in the village and with good parking and pleasant gardens (with tables and chairs).
Stairs were steep & narrow but there is a lift. Comfortable lounges, helpful reception and a bar - plus wi-fi, tea/coffee making facilities, a spacious dining room and friendly staff. Our bedroom was palatial with double aspect windows, a good ensuite - with bath & shower -and a very large and qite comfortable bed.
Strangely, the car park was usually almost full (as were the breakfast tables) but the hotel seemed almost deserted and lacking in guests.
Our welcome was OK but not really friendly or informative. In contrast, a gentleman in reception must have heard us complimenting the gift of homemade shortbread biscuits and promptly gave us some - even though we were leaving.

Location was very nice
The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever lay on (I can’t say slept as I didn’t!). It was like laying on a plank and neither of us slept. The air conditioning unit made a dreadful rattling noise so we couldn’t have it in. We were supposed to stay two nights but after the first we couldn’t stand another night so checked out early. We were unable to check out before 11am so we’re charged the full rate for the two nights. We were offered a different room but wanted to leave as it had been such an unpleasant experience. We were not offered so much as a sorry and I felt like the staff didn’t believe me when I mentioned the air con unit as one said to the other: ‘Do you know anything about an air con unit in room…?’ ‘No don’t know anything about it.’ Not even so much as ‘thank you for mentioning it we will get it looked at.’

The location was great.
Room looked very tired and not very clean at all, but learnt they are doing the rooms up. Not there is no need for dirtiness….
3.9
The room was very nice and the breakfast very good.
Cleaning a bit rushed.

Breakfast was reasonable. Dinner was a lot nicer than the last time we stayed.
Bathroom could do with modernising and bed was very hard.
3.9
great location, very comfortable bedroom and well appointed bathroom, every thought gone into making the overnight stay a pleasure in respect of the sleeping element.
layout and directions to the bedrooms confusing, having to go through lounge/bar to get to the lift /staircase to the bedroom in the main part of the house. Couldn't find the main restaurant and opted to eat in one of the 2 charming pubs. Staff in the breakfast room not very attentive, being self service: they'd run out of side plates and there were no fried eggs available until we'd finished eating the hot cooked option .
3.9
the food was excellent as was the service in the dining room.
Room 21 was delightful with large windows.
Room47 was spacious but not as inviting but the bed was very comfortable.
As the more expensive room for our family, room 47 was disappointing. The carpet wasn’t clean and there were areas of the bathroom floor that weren’t clean. Since we used two rooms and this was more expensive this was disappointing. there was only one small window.

Excellent location and breakfast. Quirky room, very homely
Paintwork a little tired. Cleanliness not great, looked like corners cut with the cleaning
3.9
Fab breakfast lovely staff

food
the room it was a themed pudding room which was dusty
and I had booked a superior
3.9
Room was clean, bed comfy, breakfast good choice, staff friendly.
Room a little on the small side, up in the attic/ dormer room with low beams and doors where anyone over
5ft would struggle not to bang their head at least once. Limited seating in the bar area. Breakfast not fully laid out when we turned up at 7am.
3.9
The room was pretty unique decorated everywhere with summer fruits. The room was quiet and dark at night though you could hear talk and movement of the guests above.
although the room was nice and the hotel comfortable, it was very expensive and I thought it was frankly overpriced.

stayed here many times. so disappointed with new mgt No longer allow dogs which was important for us. unwelcoming new decor in lounge. wonderful bar manager tried to compensate but the hotel has a long way to go to attract clients
new decor and atmosphere

Good location and lovely building
fact that not all of facilities i.e nicer bars were open and restaurant staff seemed poorly trained but food was delicious
3.9
The food was good and the room was warm and comfortable.
Staff were very good.
The filthy shower door seals had fallen off and water leaked onto bathroom floor. One was just placed with toilet roll.
They replaced the seals with ones too big hence wouldn't stay on and more wet floors.. they didn't remedy this.
The bar is awful, no atmosphere, no draft beers, just over expensive bottled beers, wines and spirits.

the hotel was very nice and in a good location.
The website stated it was dog friendly which it clearly was not. The day we arrived we were told we couldn’t eat as there was a function on and the chef couldn’t cope with more than 50 people, we were not even offered a cold alternative.
At breakfast we were told we had to eat in the lounge on very low tables as we were not allowed in dinning area, we were then moved into the cocktail bar. No tables were set up for us although there were 4 couples with dogs. I literally had to take cutlery off tables which were set in dinning room as no staff offered to set out table.
I felt like a second class citizen and it actually spoilt our 2 day break which we had been looking forward to.

Fabulous hotel, the staff were lovely..especially Mike and the breakfast ladies. Very attentive and jolly 😊

Ideal location. Clean and comfortable room. Food was good.
Room cold. radiators had been turned off. When we questioned the temperature we were informed that the heating would come on at 8 pm. Of course it didn’t because the radiators had been turned off. So we were cold on the first night.
Despite being advertised as dog friendly it isn’t. Either you eat your breakfast on a coffee table (not ideal for a cooked breakfast) or you sit in the wine bar where there is no staff. No one will know you are there so goodness knows how you get a cup of tea or coffee. Plus breakfast is served in the restaurant so you would need to transport your breakfast, juice etc from the restaurant through two doors and a corridor. Not easy I would say.
Restaurant staff were pleasant and responsive. Reception seemed to care little about any concerns we had.

Car park was quite busy but managed to park ok.

Absolutely loved our room - 'The Spotted Dick'. Very spacious, comfy firm bed. All very good.
Very very minor housekeeping issue which, when raised, was dealt with.
