Very nice pool and thermal pool complex on site, which was the highlight for our family. Two decent restaurants on site. Nice patio, and great volcano views.
Walls were a bit thin in our casita, so we could hear the neighbors. That and the beds weren’t the comfiest.
9.0
great views of the volcano, spacious rooms and loved the hot springs
the breakfast is our only issue but from looking at it, it looks a good breakfast. however, the hot food, unless you get there at the time it’s made, is cold and tasteless. also, there doesn’t appear to be any nets over some of the food that is left out, which causes fly’s to go over them.

Breakfast was not good, I didn't eat anything. The room is old, wifi was shaky and staff was not helpful
7.0
Breakfast was very good.
Room was near a noisy highway. Other than that, our room was isolated and quiet. Our friends room was attached and the neighbors the first nigh were very noisy.

Comfy bed, good pools nice view
The hotel is a bit run down, not that it affects the comfort but things are just worn and old. Much of the stays in Costa Rica are homey, this place is just very unpersonal. Breakfast was good but you always needed to wait for items. Overall it didn't feel as the value for money is that good compared to other hotels in Costa Rica. Feels like an overall lack of effort and it's peak was probably 15 years ago. Didn't pay to eat there as prices were very expensive even by western European standards, was cheaper to get a taxi into town.

The view and the hotsprings
The room was very noisy (in front of the highway). There was a gap between the door and the doorway and a hole in the window screen. The room was full of insects including mosquitoes and an ant infestation.

Beautiful property with so much potential! I love the view of the volcano!
The room was little run down need a little up keep. The water pressure for the shower was awful. The pressure was low and not hot enough. The shower head was too high. The bed was too hard!

The property was ok for a short stay.
The property has seen better days & needs a bit of upkeep.
7.0
location, hot springs
first we were given a room with potential view to the volcano but the view was obstructed by a tree. we were moved to another room that was by the road and super noisy. we had to move again to a third room which was very pleasant. changing rooms 3 times in 2 days was frustrating but tte manager agreeable

Hot springs are nice with a view to the volcano.
Rooms are not very clean. We saw huge bugs running in our room.

The location, swimming pool and our accommodation.
Nothing the property was faultless

The rooms were comfy and clean. The hot springs were great, very relaxing. The food at the pool bar was phenomenal. The restaurant was also fantastic. The breakfast buffet had a great variety.

The hotel has a good postion close to Fortuna / Arenal
We stayed with our family here for three days and we had no running water in our room. Not hot water, no cold water ! The management made no effort to resolve the problem either during the stay or after. If you want to take a shower, don't stay at this hotel. Watch out for the exposed electrical wiring in rooms too. OVerall the hotel is very tired, poorly maintained. Sure you can do better for the high price.

Comfortable beds although the cabins are not luxurious and the bathrooms are in need of updating. The restaurant was surprisingly good! Breakfast buffet ok. Hot springs nice. Didn't use pool as did not look inviting.
This is a very big property with individual cabins, some of which are quite a walk from the other facilities (may be an issue for elderly guests). Grounds are lush and well kept. Pool water of swim up bar was brown! No sign to say if this was intentional or not but looks very unappealing to say the least.

Excellent check-in, bilingual as required (in Spanish for me, English to explain other things to my family who do not speak Spanish). The young lady who checked us in and helped us during our stay was evidently new to the property, but she was subtlety but effectively coached through the process of attending to us; great job!
Two minor issues: the WiFi is verrrrry slooooow and there is a step between the bathroom and the main room area of about two inches that almost tripped me up more than once (marking the stair in some yellow and/or scratchy tape will avoid a catastrophe fall by a future guest).
10.0
Amazing resort, quite big, but it makes it easier for wild animals to wander around, like iguanas or tamandua (harmless and super cute). The staff were superb, really helpful, kind and flexible to help us with our requests (we had a late flight and they let us enjoy in the resort until then).
Smoking is not allowed, you need to go to a kiosk close to reception if you are a smoker. (Mostly all hotels in this area are likewise)

The resort, and spa is a great value for its money, the Hot Springs are nice with a lovely view of the volcano!
The accommodation was a little far from the town of law for tonight, and the food at the red was a little expensive.

location and views
staff very poorly hospitality

Beds were soft. Volcano is nice to look at. Grass and shrubs and walks are neat.
Tourists should realize this place is not typical of Costa Rica. We have many awesome places.
But here, No water - no shower options in different rooms during our whole stay.
Air conditioning unit in room 270 is bad.
Breakfast was tasteless.
Water in pools is warm or cool.

I am an extensive traveler and have never given a bad review. But, Hotel Arenal Paraiso deserves NEGATIVE 5 stars!!
A few high-level reasons for my ratings are as follows:
1. Poor value for money... Rooms keep having maintenance problems and overall facilities are not maintained well to warrant their tariffs.
2. Unaccountable hotel management and reception staff.
3. Hot springs seem to be artificial! Don't run the advertised times or temperatures.
6.0
great view, location, & thermal hot springs
slippery flooring in the room. we slipped & fell twice.
bathroom needs a bit of update.
8.0
Location, stunning view, hot springs, activities offered
Breakfast buffet quality. Plus, when the room is full, it becomes chaotic. Much better to have a la carte menu with less options to have included but better quality.
Casitas nearer the main road are noisy for the trafic and there is a constant buzzing of electronic equipments (some by the bed table, i guess wifi router) that is not exactly the most healthy situation when going in a resort fully immersed in nature.
Costs of spa (massages etc) are more expensive than some european 5* resorts.

Our room was 111, we stayed mid Dec. Had a beautiful and direct view of the volcano and we were lucky to see it unencumbered by cloud on the first day. Beds were comfortable, fridge in the room worked well and the grounds were very pretty and landscaped nicely. Easy to walk around and there are a couple rocking chairs at the room entrance that you can use to relax outside. Staff were friendly but not overly so, compared to other places we stayed during our trip. Lots of tour info is provided up front, but I'd suggest doing your research as some of them are easily done on your own if you have a vehicle (and will cost less). There's a spa on site with a fairly decent range of services on offer, spa also opens late but didn't make use of it to comment on the quality of the services. Their gift shop has better prices though than the large souvenir shop enroute to Fortuna town center, so check it out if you're inclined to find some things.
We had room 111. Felt a little under maintained. There was mold high up on the bathroom wall, the room door was not seated flush against the floor so we had a roach, several spiders and other bugs make their way into the room. Definitely needed to keep luggage closed as a result. The ac needed servicing, it wasn't staying cold although we had it at 16 deg C. Breakfast was adequate but not the best we've had on our trip. Items weren't staying warm in the warmers and the juices tasted like juice flavoured water. The hot springs on the compound were lukewarm to cool at best and the gym setup is extremely minimal. You're better off heading into town and using Arenal Fitness if you need a proper workout (weights & cardio)
