House is filthy and full of pests. Spiders and silverfish in the sinks and cabinets. Cobwebs everywhere. Our kids were scared to sleep in their bedrooms due to the number of bugs and spiders. My wife spent the first night knocking all the spiderwebs down on the front porch. Enormous hornet next on the front gable. I contacted the property manager and asked them to call me but never heard from anyone other than text messages back and forth.
Other than that the location is great and it has a view.

Beautiful setting for a summer get away on the lake! House had all the amenities you would need and has an upgraded stove which is not seen in the pictures. The clean could have been better for sure. And maybe keep an eye out for cobwebs inside the home. It’s understandable to have cobwebs on the outside of the house given its setting, but shouldn’t have excessive within the house. Also for future renters be mindful of where you park your car, or maybe bring a cover as there is an oily sap that drips from the trees.

The home was comfortable even though the weather was not with fireplaces in the lower bedroom and family space. The views were spectacular especially when the sun finally came out.

This property is in a perfect location. The house was clean and had all the stuff you could need to enjoy your stay. Silverware, cups, plates towels, blankets, bedding ect. Just beware the low ceilings down stairs, they got my husband a few times. The lake and docks are stunning. The hot tub was very clean. All around a great stay.

Fascinating old lakefront home, exactly as advertised.
I would have rated this property 4 out of 5 overall but there were a couple of nuisance items that need to be resolved for others’ full enjoyment.
1. The old refrigerator in the kitchen was barely functional. The freezer section seemed to be OK but the refrigerator section chiilled the contents slightly below room temperature. There was no temp adjustment available in the refrigerator. Bottom line: Replace that refrigerator.
2. There was no running hot water in the downstairs bathroom sink. The downstairs bathroom shower was perfectly fine but the hot water for the sink was cutoff. The shutoff valve below the sink was open for hot water but none came out. That sink was limited to cold water only.
Don’t get ne wrong, I would stay at this home again, but these basic items need to be resolved.

You cannot beat the views, outside amenities and location. The house itself is old, Knick-knack filled and the kitchen stove actually a bit scary. We rented the house in October and we needed heat. Two gas fireplaces did not work and the gas stove had only 3 operational burners (which took a while to figure out… you had to wait 30 seconds for the pilot to catch on each burner). Maintenance came out to check gas fireplaces and stove and the guy had never even seen a stove this old! The electric heat units eventually heated up the house just fine. But the electric in general was fragile… we blew a circuit using the microwave and toaster at the same time. Easy to fix except the circuit box was covered by the new refrigerator… maintenance came out again to move fridge and access circuit box. Check out instructions and email asked we please start the dishwasher. It was portable and had to be hooked up to the sink… No instructions on how to do that… again maintenance (for a total of 3 separate visits) was quick and helpful. The beds were comfortable, but unusual to have a mirror above your bed in the master in a rental unit. Hot tub worked well, dock and fireplace were fantastic. Interactions with Vacasa were very friendly and helpful.

Location was excellent with awesome views. However, the house is old with cobwebs and spiders. Could use a power wash. The house has only 1 shower and bathtub which would be quite inconvenient if 10 people were staying here. You have to walk through bedrooms to get to another bedroom….no real privacy. Kitchen very small with a table for 4. We ate outside on the balcony or the patio. If you are safety conscious, the windows do not lock. Howver, the location seemed safe enough. Water supply to the house appears to be from the lake although bottled water is supplied for drinking.

About 10 minutes north of Watkins Glen and an easy drive to Penn Yan, and wineries and antique stores, which is what we were after.
Beautiful view and nice water access. Stairs to get to water. Nicely decorated and comfortable. We had four adults. Could have easily had more.
I would have liked more comfortable furniture inside.
Despite GPS or any other directions, do not access using North Glenora Road. Use South Glenora Road. Road to cottage is a difficult hairpin turn if you use North Glenora.
A guest using a toilet should not be the way they find out that it is not functional. Vacasa maintenance said they could not fix due to low pressure and old plumbing, which means they knew it was an issue.
Shower on the first floor bathtub on the second.
Water front area had some furniture, two docks, a rowboat, canoe, and kayak.
Despite my misgivings noted here, we really did like it,

Once we got used to all the spiders and cobwebs we had a great time. This cabin has a lot of stairs but the view from the deck is spectacular

The location of this property cannot be beat. It's a quiet and gorgeous setting and cannot be beat. The amenities however were not great. The internet didn't work the entire time we were there and the two TVs downstairs did not have working cable boxes. Also note this house does not have anything provided - no paper towels or even salt and pepper. Be prepared to bring everything with you except towels, shampoo/condition and soap.

We were greeted by a cascading waterfall just outside the door! The wraparound porches and cozy tucked away nooks offered perfect places to talk, play a little music, read, nap, and enjoy the dazzling lake view. The quaint old fashioned decor spoke of a long history of happy family times. Modern conveniences including a jacuzzi kept us comfortable and relaxed.

Stay was wonderful. Nice rustic cottage on the lake. Would definitely book a stay again.

Overall this property and the views are amazing. Feedback for the owner and management company would be to invest some money in safety and cleanliness and not to mention removing the clutter and decor to make it feel more inviting. The fire pit was awesome however please use caution on the treacherous unlit stairway to the water at night as I did fall on these steps. The driveway down could be labeled better and low clearance vehicles will struggle not bottoming out on it. The house did smell like mold/damp or even like a gas or propane type of smell. The management company’s communication far exceeded my expectations however there were 2 lockboxes and the code did not work on either, however the doors were all unlocked so we just went with it and left it unlocked. Overall this was a very nice property and if you go into it with the expectations this is an old outdated cabin with cobwebs and not expecting a high end stay you will do just fine. The bathroom layout is a bit odd and the two single beds are in a room by themself while the two double beds you need to walk through one to get to the other and the lower bedroom is the nicest by far however the only shower is in an odd hallway type bathroom. I would recommend spending a few dollars to make this a more safe and clean property and feel it’s slightly overpriced in comparison because of some of these items. I am glad I read reviews on all platforms for this property so I want in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

This is the second time we stayed at this cabin. If you are looking for bright, new and shiny this is not for you. We love the old cabin and all of its charm. Could use a few updates but otherwise it is great.

Views of the lake are gorgeous! Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. Nice and secluded, but close to Watkins Glen and numerous wineries.
Our family really enjoyed the private lake access, fire pit, hot tub and outdoor dining.
The house’s decor and layout are quirky. Glass panes in the bathroom doors were a bit disconcerting but we just threw a sheet over them. Inside was decently clean (spiders and moths not surprising given the setting). Lower level is a bit musty but the dehumidifiers help. Lots of sheets, towels, blankets, cooking equipment. Lots of fans, A/C, and gas fireplaces. Outdoor furniture could use some cleaning and maintenance.
To sum up, it’s an old fashioned camp with incredible scenery.

Property was beautiful the house itself was dark and eclectic and set up a little strange but you got used to it and it was comfortable. When we first got there though there was dog poop on the driveway, which is sad because it is dog friendly and people like that ruin it for others. There was also dirty towels in the hamper. There was no key to lock the door when we went out. I did reach out to the property manager stating that there was no key and I did not receive any response from that. All in all though it was a nice short stay perfect location and a comfortable house.

How to turn off is perfectly pleasant and the description is quite accurate although not complete. Our problem started on the first day when we had an electrical failure which was more than just resetting a breaker in the breaker box.
We also found that the doors would not lock.
We immediately contacted the property manager who sent someone out to confirm what we said and they agreed that this was serious and would be addressed immediately. Sadly nothing else was done we spent the whole trip without power in our kitchen , also worrying that the electrical failure could become more serious and even potentially start a fire. We spent our entire time there with no way to secure the building when we went out.
These failures in basic safety and security overshadowed the quality of the house and the area.
Basics are important!
VRBO and Vacasa we want an apology!

Our family, consisting of 7 adults, and our dog, had an enjoyable stay in this nostalgic cottage. The home had everything we needed- towels, dinner ware, blankets, and seating. The hot tub was ready and waiting for us when we arrived, and was a nice bonus, becoming a regular gathering place in the evenings.
The location of the house is very convenient, as it is very close to Route 14 where many wineries/breweries/restaurants are located, but sits back on a quite, fairly private road.
Lakeside area is great too! It is accessed by descending two flights of stairs (very sturdy, with a landing in between flights). There is a covered seating area, fire ring, and wide dock with a ladder attached for entering and exiting the lake.
Please pay attention to this property’s description. It is exactly as described. It is an older cottage, in the woods, by a lake. The owner has added updates, to provide for a comfortable stay, but if you are looking for something modern, and totally updated, this may disappoint.
If however, you are looking for beautiful views of the lake from almost every window, porches to gather on and watch the sun rise over the water, and a place to just unwind and enjoy, then definitely consider Belle’s Buttercup!

Great property. The docks were perfect and the area I nice and secluded. The owners have updated issues I had noticed in previous reviews. The water cooler was super helpful to have. Bring loungers as there is only one. The inside is definitely a cottage but it’s comfortable and well stocked. There were some cleanliness issues I hope the property management team will address with the their team.

This place is amazing. It’s funky, charming, and very comfortable. It is a cottage, not a luxury hotel, so just know that’s what you’re booking and make sure it’s right for you. Linens provided, towels abundant. The hot tub was nice and ready to go. It was fun for my 18 month old to run around the property, but the shore is steep, there are stairs to the dock, and I always had to be right on his heels, and made sure he was always wearing a life vest by the lake. Despite the antique charm of the cottage, and rickety appearance, everything seems to be well-reinforced for safety. There are bugs, and there are probably mice sometimes, because it is a lake house. We were a family of 6 adults and two babies amd we were very comfortable! Thank you Vacasa!

The location was remote and what we needed during the pandemic. Loved the lake view and access for swimming and fishing. This is a very old fishing cabin that the family has tried to upgrade. Nice porches for enjoying the lake. The tap water is from the lake. Ok for washing. There is an electric bottled water dispenser for consumption. Kitchen has portable dishwasher and old gas stove. Some dampness on lower level. Only one shower. Other full bath is a tub. They are upgrading the outdoor area. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great outdoor space, house is comfortable but dated (pics displayed are good representation). Easy access to Watkins Glen. I would stay here again!

Belle's Buttercup is a 4th gen property - it's packed with character and charm but that does not come without a downside. It's old, it's rustic - you will not find high-end appliances and central A/C. The shower is a water saving head - if you like to be blasted by multi-jets, this is not for you. There were some cobwebs and cabin critters (saw a couple house spiders and worms in the ground level bathroom seeking moisture) - the property could be shored up on the outside to ensure nothing gets in. But you are in the woods, on a lake. In the dead of summer there are lake smells and humidity. We spent most of our time enjoying the lake, the fire pit, eating out, using the canoe, and fishing. Things you do on vacation. I'd visit again but in fall weather. It's a great place, fantastic location. What I expected of an older lake home.

An ideal lakehouse experience
Belle's Buttercup is a charming lakehouse with all of the amenities of home. The rooms had a lot of character, bordering on spooky, but fun! (This place should probably be on Atlas Obscura.) It has a lived in feel that I appreciate when it comes to cooking, relaxing, and enjoying time with friends and family. There is ample space and a variety of areas to gather or enjoy time alone. The balconies with table and seating were a favorite! The space on the lake was nicely arranged for campfires, stargazing, swimming and row-boating. In response to some of the other reviews. At the time of our visit, all water was clean and functional; there was also a water cooler for drinking water. There were a few bugs, minimal, but in my opinion that comes with staying in a lakeside, wooded property. The only thing I would recommend is clearing the spiderwebs, and having better cleaning implements for guests to use while visiting. There was ample signage for use of the amenities in the house but they could be clearer (namely for the hot tub and stove).

Belles Buttercup, Damp
A lovely location & the outside is fine with 2 porches, patio, hot tub and dock. But inside this property is damp & dilapidated. There were numerous scented plug-ins and a variety of de-humidifiers which did nothing to camouflage the dampness. We awoke every day to earthworms crawling across the carpets! If you’re a fisherman, don’t buy bait, the bait comes to you. (In your bedroom.) But there’s such a crop of seaweed by the dock, the fishing isn’t good anyhow. Also we had dozens of little black millipedes crawl around in the lower level bathroom - the kind that eat mold and rotted wood. Which makes sense since the lower level is moldy smelling. The towels on the shelf were actually a little damp. Some of the folded blankets, towels had dried up millipedes in them. Eww! One granddaughter awoke screaming with a huge black spider on her face! She is traumatized for life. Most of the doors to bedrooms or bathrooms don't close, they are so warped. Cobwebs in the corners. And we only had 1 partly rainy day, I can’t imagine what would happen with more rainy days. Dirty windows. Shades don't close on sunny side of house so you'll be up at sunrise. The unnecessary clutter throughout the house is unbelievable. Every cupboard, shelf and drawer in the kitchen is stuffed full haphazardly of random stuff you’ll most likely never need. I don’t know where they expect you to store any food you brought. There is absolutely no space available. The refrigerator/freezer may not work correctly. It took 3+ days to freeze Freeze Pops and steaks and we were hesitant to drink our milk. The gas stove is dangerously ancient and doesn't start right away. You turn on the burner, then when it doesn't light by itself you cautiously light it with a match and the knobs are very old and hard to turn. We grilled everything. The dishwasher is an inconvenient portable one you drag across to the sink so we just washed dishes by hand. The “Seneca Studio... overlooking the lake, offering a quiet place for anyone in the group occasionally needing some seclusion” is actually just a dirty junk shed. The “water slide” is a tiny plastic Playschool one for toddlers. The house uses all lake water, so we kept buying bottled water. We went through 8 cases of bottled water to drink, make coffee, etc., in addition to what the landlady left us. The price of this house is outrageous for the lack of quality accommodations. Only the Addams family would find it comfortable inside.

We love Belle's Buttercup!
Whether enjoying a morning cup of coffee watching the sun rise over Seneca or a glass of wine as the sun sets, nothing beats the beautiful views from this house. A private dock with a fire pit provides the perfect setting for vacation relaxing, and the house is large and private with every amenity a family could want. We come back every year!
4.1
Probably the worst we've experienced.
This property has a gorgeous view, particularly in the morning, but that's where the grandeur ends. We arrived up a narrow lane, past a lovely waterfall, parked in a difficult driveway and entered a home which was horribly musty , moldy and damp with numerous Glade plug-ins to mask the malodorous downstairs bedroom and living area. There were 3 noisy dehumidifiers running constantly which helped with the odor but needed to be emptied at least every 12 hours.
The water supplying the house is pumped from Seneca Lake via a black plastic pipe attached to the dock. We believe it is probably filtered before it comes out of the faucet, but we're really not sure.
The only shower is downstairs and has a water saving head which only serves to dampen your hair.
The stove is from the 1940's and is difficult to light. The refrigerator is situated at a steep angle backwards toward the wall, which just seems a little scary that the floor might be rotted behind the fridge.
The final horror was when the main breaker kept overheating and tripping due to the electrical nightmare of a 100 amp electrical panel that had a household demand of over 300 amps. We reported it several times to the property manager who didn't quite understand the hazard. Finally, we called the home owner and also left a message with the property manager. They consulted with an electrician and we were sent to a safe place at a nearby lodge after we were told for safety sake to shut off the main breaker before leaving. Our cold foodstuffs were spoiled by the next day and the electrician was unable to make any repairs so we were moved to another home 30 minutes away (17 miles).
Because of the health code and the small refrigerator at the lodge, we were unable to salvage the remainder of our dinner of lasagna and our breakfast of breakfast casserole. We had to throw away all of our food with the exception of cheese, eggs and milk. We had intended to eat breakfast and supper each day at the rental with the exception of the last evening of our reservations.
While we appreciate being moved from this potential fire hazard, we were never offered any compensation for the loss of food, moving us 30 minutes away from our destination and having to pack up 2 extra times.
The house we moved to for the remainder of our reservation was very nice and enjoyable. We really hate leaving negative reviews as we certainly don't expect perfection but this home was an extreme situation.

Take a step back into the past in this unique lakeside home. Enjoy the cozy, fully-equipped kitchen, relax beside one of the fireplaces, jump into the clear lake or just enjoy the view at Belles Buttercup.
