My partner and I stayed in the Duplex studio while staying at Hostel Clandestino and let me tell you, it was freaking fantastic! We had two nights booked and push back our plans back by one day so we could stay a third, we’d stay longer if we could, we are in love. We did keep to ourselves a bit as it was our surfing and decompression time from our past weeks but it seems that that hostel is not only great for relaxing but for social life too. Nice common area people seem to mingle, and a cool outdoor kitchen by a skate bowl where they had a BBQ and some music and hangs around yesterday, and it wasn’t too noisy or anything, sounded like a good time! The shared kitchen and washrooms seems clean and beautiful…. Though we didn’t use those cause we had our own!! It was sooo nice to have our own kitchen, fridge, and washrooms what a treat! The studio is the best experience we’ve have had yet on my stay in Nicaragua, so beautiful, peaceful and everything you need, including the cutest little black kitty cat that you can’t get enough of! Highly recommended spoiling yourselves for a few days, and for having pretty much your own tiny home (that is adorable) surrounded by nature, it is very fairly priced! Maderas beach is like a 5 minute walk for your beach chills and surfing needs…also no more then 10 minute walk to some hostel restaurant’s or beach food if you don’t have food to cook as Clandestino doesn’t have a restaurant or bar. We will defiantly return to this little slice of paradise if we get the chance to in the future. Thank you! Xx
The road up is pretty steep and rough, we took our Navi scooters up and down several times and survived, but wouldn’t recommend it if your not comfortable on a Moto, the way down is sketchier… take my word for it lol and if your walking, well you just get some extra exercise tehe it’s good for you ;)

We had a fantastic time at Hostel Clandestino!
The place has a very relaxed and chilled vibe, so I totally recommend it if you're open-minded and chilled. The staff is great and very helpful if you have any questions. It's only a 5-8 minute walk from beautiful Playa Maderas and is beautifully set upon a hill overlooking the scenery. I'd definitely stay here again when coming back to Nicaragua.

I had an amazing stay at Hostel Clandestino. I booked a room in the VW bus, which unfortunately had been booked already so Corrina upgraded me to the private cabin. Very nicely done, just completed. Beautiful and peaceful spot with everything you need and more.
I had a little trouble finding at first.

The Hostal has a great & chilled vibe. Beautiful kitchen where you can easily connect with others. Quietly located a view walking minutes from the beach.

Amazing place! we had to prolong our stay several times because we couldn’t leave. best thing about it for us was the beautiful open kitchen overlooking the jungle. It’s super spacious and welcoming, and everyone just sort of hangs out there. makes it a really good hostel to socialise. great yoga deck from which you often can see monkeys playing in the tree tops.
nothing! only good to be aware that it’s really necessary to bring some groceries because the next supermarket is a 30-45 minute walk away and the restaurants nearby are a lot more expensive than what we were used to in the rest of Nicaragua.

amazing location with a perfect view. There were howler monkeys just in front of our hotel and lot’s of birds around. There is a great atmosphere.
being able to buy some drinks on location would be nice

quiet, relaxing, social
it’s located at the top of a hill, which is fine, but a little difficult if you’re a backpacker

The hostel is beautifully located inside a lot of green, just a 5min walk from the maderas beach. Everything is beautifully integrated into the environment and the hosts are very kind.
No nearby possibility to get money or groceries.

Stephan and Corinna were super nice and always tried to include us in their daily activities, e.g. gave us a lift into town or invited us to a Christmas bonfire at the beach or joining them for a surf. The brand-new kitchen was superb. Fabulous that water came from their own well and was drinkable. Nice layout of how the huts are built into the hill.
The hike up the steep hill to the hostel is quite intense if you're carrying lots of luggage or groceries but you'll get used to it. I'd say that the canbana which we stayed in could use "a bit of paint here and there" and some deep cleaning to improve the value-for-price perception.

Location among the trees is nice, probably more beautiful during the winter/ wet season when everything is green.
we booked a “private room” for two which turned out to be surrounded by dorms, very thin walls no privacy at all. On top of our room there were mattresses with Moskito nets where 2 people slept.
the common area in front of our room was used as a closet. Towels, a surfboard bag, dirty clothes and hygiene articles were all over the space.
Toilets were super dirty, some of them not flushing properly, the trash buckets were full on arrival and still full when we left.
Highlight was people sleeping over night in the common area couches, with their backpacks. didn’t pay / book a room ? no idea!
only people there to help out voluntarily, no real staff. Seemed much out of control.

very friendly owners, in the middle of the jungle (don’t really have a view to the sea), they organized pizza night and welcome everyone for 5$, cool vibe (mostly surfers), good price value ratio, very good overall :)

Clandestino is an awesome place hidden high up in the forest. It’s impossible not to chill out here, swinging in a hammock on the yoga platform or a terrace . The beds are comfy and the staff and family who own the place make you feel really welcome. The nearby beaches are beautiful and the walk back isn’t too bad.
