About this house rental
Description:
Beautiful three bedroom, two bath, log home with new modern amenities. An open floor plan that allows family and friends to inclusively prepare meals while enjoying wonderful views of the natural beauty from every window and the crackling of the fireplace and/or while watching the 65” television with free Wi-Fi internet access. Two king size beds and one queen over queen bunk bed.
For those looking for alone time, there is an open air three season reading room ideal for phone calls, work or simply reading a book in an oversized leather chair with a cup of hot coffee or a chilled adult beverage.
The kitchen has pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. to create memorable vacation meals and offers a healthy economical alternative to eating meals at local restaurants. Also, unlike many of the rural homes in the Black Hills area, there is excellent well water available from the tap. In fact, most folks choose to bottle our fresh ice cold tap water for their day trips.
COVID-19:
Please follow the current recommended PPE protocols during the time of travel.
Weather Considerations and Access:
The weather in South Dakota, although unpredictable, is beautiful. The air is fresh with moderate temperatures during the summer months. Occasional afternoon showers will not be an access concern, unlike many rentals in the Black Hills having miles of dirt roads, because the house has a paved driveway. No cause for concern with the summer hail as the house has an overly large attached two car garage available for parking your personal car, motorcycle and/or the rental car.
Wildlife:
Almost daily, deer frequent the yard in the evenings, bluebirds abound and squirrels playfully chatter from the trees.
Additional Amenities:
We have fishing poles available for kids to enjoy the free fishing, for those 12 years of age or younger, in the many nearby lakes, without parents having to invest in this gear for a one time vacation outing. Lawn chairs and coolers are also made available. For those with toddlers or babies, we provide a Pack-n-Play and a booster seat for the car.
Local Access:
The house is less than 1 mile from the community golf course, 3 miles from downtown Custer, 3 miles from a new 76 bed community hospital, 6 miles from the Custer State Park entrance, 9 miles from Crazy Horse Memorial, 20 miles from Mt. Rushmore and 72 miles of beautiful Black Hills riding to Sturgis. In fact, the best riding in the Black Hills is in the Custer area through the Needles Highway.

We loved our stay here. As other reviews stated it had ton of extras in the house but we were still shocked how stocked the house was including games and kitchen supplies. Our dog loved the house and the nice dog beds. We will make sure to rent this place again on our next stay.

This property has room to stretch your legs. Perfect for pets and children to be safe outside. As stated in other reviews, this is the most stocked home, just like you're in your own home. We would love to stay again.

Our stay was amazing; not only was the property beautiful, but also very clean and upkept. The owners thought of everything from laundry detergent to shampoo to condiments. Being so close to town was a great advantage as we were able to cook breakfast and dinner at the house after a long day of activities. Everyone slept great as the beds were extremely comfortable. Best of all we are heading back after a week of vacation with no laundry as the house had a washer and dryer. Our kids enjoyed playing in the backyard and we enjoyed peaceful mornings on the 3 season porch sipping coffee. If we could come back every year we would!

Overall, this house fit us perfectly, offering many of the same comforts of home. It was a great place to stay, and we truly enjoyed our time here. The space was clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
However, I must mention one concern. During our visit, the temperature was close to 90 degrees, and while the living area had air conditioning, the bedrooms did not. This made the nights were slightly uncomfortable. Despite this, the rest of the experience was fantastic, and I'm still giving it 5 stars because everything else was excellent.

Custer House was a wonderful place to stay while we explored the area. It was peaceful being just outside of town, but close enough to the area aytractions. The amenities were welcome. We were able to enjoy ourselves.

The property was by far the nicest Vrob we have stayed in. We all had a wonderful time.

Everything about the house was great. Great location, filled with everything we would need for our whole stay, including air conditioning when it was 100+ degrees everyday. Great proximity to all major landmarks and places to visit.

We stayed at this cabin for four nights with five people. Our group was two children, 9 & 13, two parents and one grandparent.
Location of property: Fantastic proximity to all the fun activities and sights in the area. Cabin is in a nice residential area about a 1/4 mile off a main highway. Neighbors are 75-150 yds away so we had plenty of privacy, but didn't feel totally isolated.
Outside area: Two decks on either side of the house gave opportunities for outdoor dining. We did use the grill which was nice. Plenty of buffalo grass, and a fun swing for kids to run around and play.
Inside: Kitchen, dining, living room are all open (as in the pictures). Lots of natural light, the table accommodates 6 people easily. EVERYTHING you could ask for is stocked in the kitchen. Three bedrooms occupy the other side of the house. They are all on the same hall and share walls with each other. The bedrooms are large, have nice closet space, comfortable beds and nice hotel quality linens. There are two full bathrooms (the listing isn't quite clear). One has a bathtub the other is just a shower surround. We thought the bathtub and shower could use a refresh--but everything was very clean and functional, so this criticism is picky. The host has provided everything you will need--towels, blankets, a stockpile of family games, simple toiletries are in abundance.
We really enjoyed this property and would definitely recommend it!

This log home was the perfect place for us to stay. Rooms beds and the kitchen were just what we needed. Well stocked (three different ways to make coffee). Never turned on the large TV ( that pulls down to a better viewing level ) above the fire place. Great location! Arlene is easy to communicate with.
I’d recommend it to anyone.

This was are fist Vrbo and the host knocked it out of the park with the little extras that were provided for condiments. This experience may take us to rent Vrbo instead of hotels going forward. The wildlife and scenery around the cabin was beautiful. The host answered all questions quickly. If ever in the black hills area check out this place.

We had to leave early for personal reasons, but the next we come to the Black Hills, we will try to get this property.

We loved staying at this cabin. It was plenty large for our family and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. The wood fireplace made for a cozy stay. It had everything we needed and was the perfect place to enjoy our time in the black hills.

Great location. Close to Custer State Park and Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore. Black Hills area is beautiful in the fall. Some attractions and restaurants were closed for the season but the overall beauty at this time of year was unbeatable.

This is an amazing home and property. The house sits on an incredible lot so there’s lots of room and great views. We have never stayed in a house that was so well stocked - everything you could possibly need or want! The house is beautiful and very clean and comfortable. Friendly neighbors and close to Custer and all the attractions. Hosts were very responsive to any questions we had. We would definitely come back!

We are group of 8 ( 6 of us out of Europe). We are very happy we had an opportunity to stay in this house. It gave us a chance to meet Nancy and get in touch with the owner, very pleasant and attentive individuals. The house by itself help us to relax and radiated good energy. This was such a great stay.
Property is clean, kitchen very well stuffed, neighborhood very safe, view from the porch is amazing. We will be back if possible. We are highly recommending this cabin.

We were in town for our sons wedding and the house was perfect, family gathered together with plenty of room. The house was loaded with helpful extras. We asked if we could arrive a little early and that wasn’t a problem. They were very accommodating. We would recommend this property to everyone.

My husband and I both agree this vacation home is worth reserving again! The location was perfect. Many of our excursions were within a short drive, and the comforts of home awaited us at the end of our really long days. The acreage gave us privacy and quiet and opportunity to see or smell wildlife! We had a special guest, the neighborhood dog, and she accepted our treat offerings graciously and gently. Super great owners to share such a lovely home and super sweet neighbor who is a phone call away if the need should arise. Thank you to you all for a wonderful home away from home. Barefoot rating of A!!!!! My own home rarely gets that high mark.

From check in to check out - property manger was responsive. There was enough space for everyone, 6 people and 3 pets, to just relax and enjoy. There was only 1 TV, but that turned out to not be an issue at all.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well stocked the cabin was, including, games/activities for kids and even pet beds/treats/leashes/collars.
EVERYTHING was taken care of - Thank you!

Stayed for three nights with four adults, two kids and two dogs. Home is very welcoming and fully stocked. Great location close to downtown Custer but also in a very quiet location with great views from the deck. Owner was very responsive to any questions and requests. Would stay again!

The house felt clean, however there was quite a bit of pet hair throughout the home. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed for cooking meals. The beds were comfortable. Our younger boys enjoyed the queen sized bunk beds. The property surrounding the home was very pretty, lots of trees. We saw a few deer. The house is a safe distance off the highway but you can hear traffic noise from the back deck/yard. Short drive into town and the wildlife loop.

This is our third year in a row staying in South Dakota for vacation. We’ve stayed at other rentals all over the states but this by far is the best one ever. Besides the location being close to everything in the hills and beyond…this place was stocked to the ceiling with amenities. The only thing we bought was meat and sides. Everything was there for us. There was games, a huge TV, so many blankets to warm up with, Pots, pans…You name it and it was there. The bunk bed was a huge hit with my four girls. The beds were great and super comfy. The back deck and sun room was a favorite place to hang out. The fact that this house is dog friendly was wonderful. We brought our husky and Boston. The husky never wanted to come inside, the weather was beautiful. Nice during the day and chilly at night. We just opened windows to control the temperature inside.
The house is perfect and in our favorite town in South Dakota. We are considering moving we love it soo much. Just book the house, no regrets.

This location was absolutely perfect for exploring Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore and other sites. Custer itself has some great places to eat, so it was wonderful to come home to.
The house is stocked with all the things you need (including generous snacks!) My kids loved swinging and playing in the yard, but the bunk bed was quite wobbly.
Side note: showers are small. If you are on the last/large size, you may want to take this into consideration.

Our stay here was fantastic...totally functional for a family with small kids and very well stocked. Also, one of the cleanest stays we have had! The entire process was very simple. Added bonus: friendly neighbors and neighbor dogs!

I'm not really sure where to begin honestly. This was the most perfect place for my family and I. Arlene had the cabin well stocked with really anything you can think of or possibly need! It was beautiful inside and out. Plenty of room, rest and relaxation for all 6 of us! Our fur baby also enjoyed his stay, there was dog bowls if needed and leads outside for him. I would absolutely recommend this home for anyone in the area and we will be back! Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for the family!

My daughter, her roommate, and my sister stayed with me in Arlene's cabin for 4 days and it was perfect! The location is just on the outskirts of Custer with easy access to the main road and everything we wanted to see! We brought our 2 dogs and were pleased to find cable tethers in the front and the side yard, along with dog bowls! We enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen and loved sitting by the fireplace in the evenings! The beds, including the queen-size bunkbeds, were soooo comfortable! We had a great stay and highly recommend staying here!!!

Our family stayed mid-October and it's everything just as listed. We had a great stay. Would say the beds are much better than most as they are memory foam mattresses. Having a fireplace in the fall is a great thing.
