About this house rental
Cliffhanger boasts an elevated position on top of the cliffs in the trendy St Leonards area of Hastings. All the major rooms offer exceptional sea views and the former hotel has been restored and renovated to provide a high standard of luxury accommodation. The house is spotlessly clean and maintained to a high standard.
Six bedrooms (5 ensuite and 1 children's bunk bed room) comfortably sleep 12 / 14 (maximum 12 adults and 2 children) while the ground-floor offers excellent reception rooms, a cosy lounge, a well-equipped kitchen / diner with wood burner, and a sun deck with BBQ, dining area and hot-tub. The best photos of the house are to be found on our own website (Cliffhanger House Hastings).
High-speed internet is available throughout the property and Netflix & all the usual catch-up channels are available in all the bedrooms. A good selection of mixed age toys, games and jigsaw puzzles are supplied in case of rain. High-quality bed linen, REN toiletries, fluffy bathrobes and complimentary slippers are all provided for long, lazy days and maximum lounging. There is free, unrestricted on-street parking near to the house (first-come-first-served) and you can always park in front of our drive to unload (we live next door to the house).
Cliffhanger is a 5 minute walk to the beach. Exit the house in either direction and it's an easy stroll down the hill to the blue flag beaches of West St Leonards and the expansive promenade - ideal for walking, running, scooting or cycling. The Pubs, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, takeaways, convenience stores, art galleries and antique shops of St Leonards are all within easy reach. West St Leonards mainline railway station (offering direct trains to and from London Bridge) is a 5 minute walk away. The cobbled streets and funicular railways of the historic old part of town are a 25 minute walk away. These give access to the Hastings Country Park - essentially an extension to the nearby South Downs – offering cliff-top walks and stunning views all the way to the quaint Medieval village of Rye some 12 miles away. The Blue Reef Aquarium, the Hastings Contemporary art gallery, the fishermen’s museum and the characterful tall black net huts are all situated in the old part of Hastings, not to mention amusement arcades, fish ‘n’ chips, live music, crazy golf and the boating lake. The White Rock Theatre and Hastings Pier are a 15 minute walk away to the East. Head West from the house and the Art Deco De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill is reachable within a couple of hours (walking). We quite often make the walk with our children, have lunch in Bexhill and then get the train back.
The ground floor is the heart of the house. The fully-fitted kitchen is well-equipped with 2 double ovens, 2 fridges (1 large upright and 1 large drinks fridge), large freezer, induction hob and SAGE bean-to-cup coffee machine. The kitchen opens onto the wide and expansive sun deck with plenty of outdoor furniture. There's a hot tub on the deck to keep the kids (and adults) entertained. The dining room seats 15 at a squeeze and the wood burner & art work make for a cosy, atmospheric room for large family dinners.
As a holiday house, the former hotel promises a special experience for everyone. The views are expansive and during the winter months, the deep orange skies of sunrise and sunset can be enjoyed from the house and hot tub. Family get-togethers, friends' reunions, noteworthy occasions, wedding anniversaries and big birthdays are all well catered for here. The all-ensuite bedrooms (*excluding the bunk bed room) offer space and privacy when needed while the open-plan reception areas allow for everyone to come together for evening cocktails, fabulous meals, and late-night film viewings.
The natural beauty of the local environs combined with the fact that there always seems to be something going on means your stay here is likely to be a rewarding one. Whether it’s playing in rock pools, listening to live music in local pubs, or booking a pamper afternoon at the house followed by a private chef, Cliffhanger is a brilliant base from which to just sit and enjoy the view, or head out and explore the rich diversity and history of 1066 country. It’s a superb coastal holiday home for families and groups of friends.

My recent stay at Cliffanger in St. Leonards-on-Sea was an absolute delight, leaving our family with unforgettable memories for my partner's 50th birthday . From the moment we set foot in this stunning property, I was enthralled by its charm, breathtaking sea views, and meticulous attention to detail. We were in luck to have a weekend of sunshine...always helpful.
One of the standout features of Cliffanger is undoubtedly its mesmerising seaview from the balcony. It's a picturesque vista that instantly transports you to a world of tranquility and serenity. We spent countless hours sitting on the balcony, sipping morning coffee through to cocktails and dinner in the evening.
Stepping inside Cliffanger, I was captivated by the impeccable interior design. The house exuded elegance and sophistication, with a perfect blend of modern amenities and classic touches. Every corner of the property seemed to hold a secret waiting to be discovered. Max and Katie's attention to detail was evident, with unique and tasteful decor that created an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Flowers and bubbles were also a very kind touch to help our weekend celebration.
Throughout our stay, we couldn't help but marvel at the thoughtfully incorporated hidden details. From artwork to surprises tucked away in unexpected places ( check the bathrooms), Cliffhanger truly embraced the concept of discovery and added an extra layer of excitement to my stay.
Thanks Max and Katie...you rock!

The house is absolutely stunning! The view is gorgeous, the bed rooms were cozy, the house is very well equipped - Max and Katie even supply toys for children – the terrace with the hot tub is amazing, everything looked nice and was very clean.
Max and Katie are great host. They react fast, are very friendly – they even prepared a delicious welcoming gift – and offered fantastic recommendations regarding activities and restaurants in and around St Leonards-On-Sea.
St Leonards-On-Sea has a great vibe even though not all houses and streets are in good condition. It seems like an emerging city with a lot of cool, new places and interesting people.

Thank you Max for making my birthday so special by letting us celebrate in your beautiful house.
We all had a lovely time in a such a spacious , full of character , warm and clean , home like feeling villa.
There was absolutely everything we wanted from well equipped kitchen to big , comfortable beds.
Jacuzzi is a perfect addition to the celebration with slippers and bathrobes provided. We enjoyed the view over the sea in the morning , with a glass of Prosecco to finish the weekend.
I would highly recommend the villa due to the high standard of the house , location and a quiet area.
Only 5 mins walk to the beach and a pub , if you want to enjoy a pint of beer.
We also had a lovely meal at La Bella vista , thank you for the recommendation.
All the best and I hope to see you soon for another family birthday.
Thank you !

Beautiful home with very eclectic decor, just beautiful. Deck/Patio is big, spacious, and wonderful to eat breakfast and watch the tide coming in. Watching the sun go down was an added bonus. Property owners very accommodating and easy to access.

Fantastic 60th birthday!
Who needs a hotel when you can go to Cliffhanger?
I booked this for my 60th birthday with a group of friends and WOW! I couldn't have chosen better. Everything about the place has been well thought through. The house is really well equipped and attention to detail is outstanding,
We loved the view, the hot tub and the fact that we all had lots of space. The welcome by Max and Katie was so warm and friendly and the welcome hamper was unexpected and generous.
We had fish and chips at Maggies and we booked a private caterer to come and cook for us (recommended by Max). The whole experience was such a joy and made my birthday memorable.
I'm already looking forward to my 65th so I can go back!
Thanks Max and Katie. Your communication was excellent and Cliffhanger is a triumph!

Beautiful house with fabulous views
Cliffhanger is a gorgeous home from home, beautifully decorated with all the mod cons you could need for your holiday!
We arrived to a fabulous welcome basket full of goodies and met the lovely owners who were super friendly and accommodating.
The views from the balcony (where the hot tub is situated) out to sea are just fabulous, especially when the sun comes out as it did for us on our last morning.
The house is well equipped and really comfortable, I would definitely recommend. The only slight negative is the on street parking but the owners saved us a space on arrival so we managed to get parked right outside.
We had a lovely few days and would definitely return.

Cliffhanger is superb!
My stay at the property was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome.
Amazing views in a very grand setting and suitably well appointed throughout to a very high standard.
The style being both traditional and modern at the same time.
The owner could not have been more helpful with steering me towards some of the local attractions and answering any query's I had.
I can't wait to come back!
10 out of 10 and defiantly recommended.
