This Stunning conversion of the extensive Wern-y-Cwm Farm dairy, piggery and cow sheds creates a spacious 6 bedroom home. Situated in 30 acres of farmland managed using organic methods and set high on the edges of the Skirrid Mountain with far reaching views yet only 7 minutes drive from Abergavenny.
The spacious open plan kitchen/dining room is well fitted out to cater for family meals around a large dinning table (seats 12). An extra little table may be set for 4 children, if the house is booked to maximum capacity (16).
A double faced wood burning stove leads into the sitting room/TV room. With plenty of space for the whole group to join conversations around the fire, or play family games found in the large cupboard. A smart TV is set at the far end of the room for cosy films or to keep the children entertained as their parents continue their conversations over a long meal next door.
With eclectic décor featuring up-cycled and carefully restored and re-upholstered furniture, this eco-heated property has been restored and extended sympathetically to retain the character of the buildings.
The 6 double or twin bedrooms sleep up to 12 in comfort, with the option of adding 4 extra small guests on pull-out or z-beds for children.
The house has a large enclosed walled garden formed from the previous cattle yard to the front, with outdoor seating for up to 16 people. It has the great advantage of the "Captains Cave", a covered open barn with a full sized table tennis table, exercise bike, treadmill, fridge, BBQ, fire pit service and hot tub (wood and hot tub at an additional charge). Parents can enjoy sitting outside in confidence that their children or dogs are safely enclosed.
To the rear of the house is a lawned area (ideal for ball games) merging into a wooden area and access into the fields on up to the mountain top. This area is ideal for older children or adults to explore, enjoy playing and relaxing.
Two of the bedroom suites have private outdoor terraces and seating areas, which are great for grandparents or work colleagues who need a little private time during the stay.
Wern-y-Cwm Farm is a huge historic farmstead dating from the 16th century. It was the home of Captain Thomas James, who sailed to discover the North West Passage in the reign of King Charles I, funded by the Bristol Society of Merchant Venturers. It remains a private home but has been converted into well spread out holiday lets, creative, yoga or business retreat centre accommodation around the cathedral sized barn - ideal for yoga, meetings/training or a banquet. Set in 30 acres of stunning farmland bordering the Skirrid Mountain National Park, the fields and hedgerows are teaming with wildflowers and wildlife.
Cook with herbs from the abundant garden, or try out some of the home grown veg (upon request in season), enjoy a good game of table tennis or soak stress away in the hot tub (suitable for up to 6, by requests at additional charge). It is a short walk through the fields to reach the mountain - you can be on top of the world with views over six counties in 35 minutes.
If of interest we can send you links to numerous amazing local food producers, and we offer an electric car charging point (by pre-booking), so that you may enjoy a truly low carbon holiday, business or sporting retreat. From Summer 2024 a large new natural swimming pool/pond will be available for use by all the properties (all going well with the winter landscaping). From Summer 2024 our new communal natural swimming pool / pond should be available for use by our guests.

My friends and I stayed on my wedding weekend. The property was perfect and clean, with a good garden space as well. The host was always friendly when communicating. Just be careful when trying to get there and not ending up in someone else's farm like we did!

The Dairy was absolutely perfect for our stay. Couldn't have asked for a better property or location. Immaculate, bright and colourful, with a lovely garden and hot tub. We played skittles on the lawn and had a table tennis tournament. We had a lovely pamper and movie night. We did a beautiful walk up the Skirrid, and was blown away by the views and the amazing weather we had in October, we got sunburnt! Kitchen was perfect for the amount of people we had, and had everything we needed. Can't recommend this lovely place enough. Thank you Emily, Colin and Sue for sharing this place. Xxx

The property was converted from a dairy barn and had kept many lovely old features.... we were impressed by the standard of the conversion and the layout worked really well.

Had a fantastic two days with our team spread across two houses. Location was stunning and we particularly enjoyed the views and outside spaces. The host team were all very friendly and helpful and we were really glad we took their advice to walk from the house to the top of Skirrid Fawr which shouldn't be missed.

Beautifully decorated house with plenty of quality space. To be able to walk to the Skirrid mountain from the house is a bonus.

Location: great.
House: clean
Pre-arrival process: way over the top, sent me an extensive list of quite aggressive T&Cs several months after I’d already booked. This doesn’t make one feel welcome before arrival.
Various issues with the property whilst there: the fire alarm for the whole building went off 3 times for no reason. This takes away from the tranquil external environment!

This was the perfect place to celebrate my 70th birthday with children and grandchildren.
Suited all age groups .
Wondering what to celebrate next so we can return 😊

An amazing, rambling space with steps and doors and passages to make a perfect adventure playground for young children.
Lots of doors, too, to the perfect walled garden which was like an extension to the kitchen/diner and living rooms. Kids and dog could come and go in all directions pausing now and then at the ping-pong table in the covered games part.
All rooms were spacious and extensively furnished with all manner of tables, chairs and oddments - even plentiful hooks in all needful places. The huge wood-burning stove was a perfect cure for the 2 cold evenings and 1 rainy day we had.
All the bathrooms (and there were plenty) were wonderfully warm with heated towel-rails and copious amounts of (very) hot water.
The property is nestled within adjoining fields so walks N, S, E, W, uphill and downhill can all start from the front door. The lovely, wider countryside is all around with very friendly people and a host of unpretentious things to see and do all around.
2 cautions:
The mattresses are all on the soft side with the one in Bird & Blossom being particularly soft.
The ceilings in the kitchen/diner and living rooms are extremely high and this makes lighting difficult. If reading in the evening is your thing - this only works for 3 or 4 people.
Overall we had a fabulous time and The Dairy was unanimously voted best place we have stayed in (out of 6) by all 11 of us (and the dog)

12 of us celebrating a big birthday this year spent a fantastic weekend in The Dairy. The property exceeded our expectations and was a wonderful place to eat, dance and laugh together. Thank you so much.

This is a truly wonderful place. We came together as four families and just loved the property - colourful, cosy with ample room for everyone. The garden and surrounding location were also beautiful. We definitely hope we can come back again.

I spent months trying to find the right venue and I can't recommend this place enough. Obviously it looks amazing from the pictures, but it looks even better in person, and every room has been given the same level of attention. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware/utensils, and worked really well for cooking for a large group. There's loads of parking available, and a nearby public path to directly walk up to Skyrrid nearby.
Property managers were very helpful beforehand, and the key was made available via lockbox which worked very smoothly. The venue is well marked on Google Maps with no issues finding it. The lane is very narrow with very few passing places so be wary of that, but that's the countryside for you!

We booked this as a venue for 3 days and 2 night annual away day four our business. The venue was perfect with plenty of room, stacks of amenities and beautifully laid out. We enjoyed the outdoor kitchen area and sat outside eating, drinking cocktails and socialising. The venue has everything you need and the team are super accommodating. Can't recommend this highly enough.
