We stayed for 3 nights. It ticked all the boxes for us : very British ambiance, wonderful pub and restaurant, very frinedly service and close to Oxford but in a charming countryside village... Our room was right above the pub but no noise problems at all. Bathroom was comfortable and functional.
4.0
We were a little disappointed in the food and the service especially for breakfast.
5.0
The room was well above our expectations being roomy, well appointed all while having features of the 400 year old building. All the staff were very pleasant however the two duty managers, Rohan and Dayton went over and above. Hands down the best customer service experience we have ever had.

Thanks so much for a great stay! A beautiful grade two listed building, super friending and welcoming staff which was really appreciated, we'll be visiting again soon!

Superb service and attention to detail, from Giancarlo who greeted my wife and I , allowed us to check in early, through to the bar staff and restaurant team. Food great, could not have wished for better.

Great stay and would definetly go back
2.5
The staff were excellent: very friendly, responsive and efficient. The location was perfect with lovely local walks and there were excellent food choices available and different places to sit to eat. The room was big and had lots of character. Unfortunately room 7 was very hot in the warm weather which made it very difficult to sleep. The bathroom was tired, with some very poor workmanship around the bath and shower. These were the only negatives of an otherwise excellent stay!

Good food. Lovely old style rooms

This place was beautiful! I loved every minute of our stay and the history of the hotel is fascinating.

Very comfortable room and very helpful and courteous staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay.

Friendly welcome. Nice room. Fantastic breakfast, probably best veggie breakfast I've had.
2.5
A great place to take a break along the way, enjoy the restaurant and its great staff, and really close to the city of Oxford.
1.5
A lovely location and beautiful looking building. Rooms are in keeping with the building and clean, tea, coffee etc all lovely, nice towels & bedding - the room itself just needed a bit of tlc - radiator not working (portable heater provided instead) shower extremely hard to regulate temperature and not able to single handedly hold the head and shower, bed support broken on one side..
Service was fantastic however and restaurant lovely and we all did get a good sleep.
2.5
Comfortable and relaxing although can be a bit noisy in the late evening with pub clientele chatting on the outside deck which is situated just below the rooms.
Dog charge of £15 per night.

Had an amazing stay - Jon and his team really go above and beyond
Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

I thoroughly enjoyed my three-night stay at The Bear and would highly recommend. The room was comfortable and perfectly appointed. The adjacent pub was convenient for meals, and everything was delicious. Ronan and every other staff member I came into contact with was top notch. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay outside the hustle of Oxford, do not hesitate to stay at The Bear. I will definitely stay here again.

Lovely Hotel. Room was spotless and very comfortable. Evening meal was delicious, especially the Parsnip soup it was the best I've ever tasted. Staff were lovely & welcoming. Look forward to staying again.

Stayed in one of the four outside bedroom, whilst okay, the bathroom needs an overhaul. Bedroom was comfortable albeit cobwebs on the lights above the bed.

What a lovely find in proximity to our Oxford holiday! Cumnor is conveniently quiet to the hustle and bustle of Oxford. The room was spacious and welcoming, hotel staff were excellent, and meals there were quite satisfying!

The whole experience was awesome. Clean throughout, the most friendly staff, gorgeous food and excellent drinks menu. Pub/restaurant is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Dog friendly.
Beautiful surroundings in a quiet little village. Easy access to main tourist hotspots. Definitely planning a second visit for next year.

great location, not too far from Oxford. Lovely bedroom, excellent food, great staff.

The team here are worthy of any luxury hotel I’ve stayed in. In fact in terms of customer service they’re up there in my top 5 in the world. Having worked in customer service for 30 years and being lucky enough to travel extensively in Asia and the Middle East my benchmark is high.
The service here is slick, well versed but done effortlessly from check in, through to dinner service and the bar and breakfast. Just the right level of chat and banter, but excellent knowledge of the menu etc really sets them apart from the usual pub stay. I’d go so far as to say the team deliver world class service.

A comfortable room in a quiet location. Didn’t have time for breakfast on this trip but maybe next time

15th century building meets modern world. Great location in countryside but easy drive to Oxford. Welcoming staff and good food selection for dinner and breakfast. We slept in room 5 above the bar but could not hear a thing. Great shower, bed was great.

Unfortunately in the evening there were issues in the kitchen so food was delayed.
Room was decorated beautifully but it needs some extra lighting.

This is a lovely old pub with rooms to let. Giancarlo greeted us & because we arrived late suggested that we enjoy dinner before checking in while the kitchen was still open. Our room was on the second floor, up a narrow spiral stair. Giancarlo helped carry our bags up which was very much appreciated. The bed & pillows were comfortable. The weather was pretty warm and although there is no air conditioning, a fan was provided which helped. I would have given it 5 stars but 3 of the 4 days of our stay we had no hot water. They had a problem with their boiler. Although we were given a discount on our stay, cold showers are very uncomfortable.

An excellent pub with rooms. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly and we couldn't fault the service at all.
The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Would definitely recommend this place.

It was an amazing place to stay, breakfast was delicious, the only thing that let it down was we had no hot water in the morning, we had to shower in cold water, it certainly woke us up :)

The Bear and Ragged Staff hotel was very quaint, the room we had was spacious and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food options were varied and there is an option to dine outside on a lovely patio. Lastly, the location in Cumner is quite charming.

We traveled from the USA for a family wedding and stayed the evening before at the Bear and Ragged Staff. We met with other family members for a little reunion there and we could have not been happier with the rooms, the staff, the dining room and pub. We had eight people for lunch, dinner, drinks, and breakfast the next day. The menu was fantastic and the staff were so kind and accommodating. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. A perfect experience for our family. Thank you, Bear and Ragged Staff!

Bear and Ragged Staff was a fun place to stay and dine in our final night in the UK. We loved the rustic flavor of the inn, our dinner was wonderful, and our rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed.

Great welcome and super friendly service throughout our stay. Nice comfortable room with bath and shower. Great breakfast!

This is a quintessential British country pub in a quaint village, with up-to-date accomodation. The room had lots of character, but was suprisingly large. The bathroom/shower was very good with good water pressure and lots of hot water.
The restaurant/food was very good with a nice selection and daily specials. The bar served both keg beers and tradional hand-pump local beers. The staff were friendly and helpful

It was quaint on the outside, but the room was modern and well appointed.

I was visiting my son in Oxford and this was an easy drive in, 8 minutes on lovely backroads, but it was like being in the heart of the country. The accommodation was fabulous, the food well priced and delicious. There were some lovely walks within the village.
This will most definitely be my go to when I visit my son next time. I will be back.
Loved it.
