A warm welcome awaits from Eric and his team, who deliver a friendly, relaxed service in this charming one-time coaching inn. Based in the heart of Exmoor, it is conveniently located tor easy access to all the extensive range of attractions available in the area and beyond. Highly recommended.

Very cosy accommodation high on Exmoor. Comfortable, friendly and good value. Perfect overnight stop during our walk along the Coleridge Way.

Friendliness of staff second to none, nothing was too much trouble and we did have a couple of special requests. Most generous breakfast I've ever come across, and the quality of the food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Loved staying here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we are back in the area.

A wonderful family owned Inn which is situated in a beautiful location. My family and I were welcomed by the owners and were made to feel very welcome by them and all their friendly, chatty staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were very accommodating. The Rest and Be Thankful has a lot of history and character and there are lots of photos of the Inn and surrounding area from many years ago. The Inn was kept very clean as was our room and we had a comfortable stay. The food was excellent, always hot and cooked well and was delicious. The bar has a good selection of local ales and cider on draft as well as other tipples. Will definitely book and stay here again in the future. Thank you to Eric, Caz and all the staff for providing us with a comfortable and enjoyable stay!

Eric went out of his way to welcome me and to prepare the early breakfast I requested. He kept me informed about important local events. I will be staying again in the future.

We were very impressed with the Covid 19 preparations that the Inn had put in place, including taking our temperature on arrival. We were warmly greeted and our room was spotlessly clean. The evening meal was excellent, as was the breakfast. A very enjoyable stay, would return. The only observation is that the furniture looks a little tired and would benefit from new dining tables, and some of the bedroom furniture. Carpet was also clean but outdated. However we enjoyed our stay.

The room was very hot so I had to keep the window open. The noise was horrendous from the heating system outside. I appreciate this equipment is needed but I got hardly any sleep.

The staff were excellent and very accommodating. They arranged for us to have a later breakfast and check out as we went on an early morning stag safari. Evening meal carvery was lovely. Enjoyed the stay and will definitely go there again if we are in the area.

One must be aware from the outset that you are staying in a country pub and not an hotel. With that in mind you can appreciate that the amenities on offer are limited but adequate. The pub was always spotlessly clean, the staff were always helpful and the accommodation was very good. The room that I occupied was a bit noisy during the daytime because it overlooked the main crossroads but after about 8pm everything quietened down. The room was quite large with a large wardrobe and plenty of shelves for clothes. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had all that one could ask for except that it had only a shower and not a bath. Not a problem for me but for others it might be. The dining room offered a comprehensive menu of high quality cooking and twice a week, Wednesday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes, there was a carvery on offer. The bar offered an extensive choice of quality beers. I would have liked however to see a wider choice of non alcoholic beers. With so many choices of non alcoholic beers in the bitter range ie, Adnams Ghost Ship now available it would have been nice to have had that choice instead of the usual lager substitutes. My stay at the Rest & Be Thankful was a very pleasant experience and I would recommend the venue to anyone who wants to explore Exmoor from this quite central location at Wheddon Cross. Thank you to the landlord Eric and his staff for a very pleasant stay.

I liked everything. The food was good and plentiful. There was a lively crowd in the bar on Friday night and although I was on my own, I felt that I was a part of it. The staff could not have been more friendly or efficient.

Fantastic location, pleasant and very helpful staff. Warm and welcoming environment and food plentiful and varied. We stayed as a group of 6, the staff were very accommodating. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Our room had an excellent view of Exmoor and Dunkery Beacon - how fab! Unfortunately the room and bathroom was very hot and we couln't turn the radiators down or off. However it didn't affect our overall experience. Would certainly use again.

Pleasant hotel with ample parking space. All packed into a small room but very comfortable. Pleasantly laid out & spotlessly clean. Single bed but comfortable. Only complaint is noise of generators etc on roof outside as room above dining/kitchen area, if window open. All quiet after about 23:00 and before 07:00 so a good night's rest achieved!
As a general point it seems that many rooms for solo travellers are often over the 'noisiest' part of building. We pay good money like every other traveller & need to be treated the same with comfort & noise re - rooms.
Meals were good, attractively presented & good sized portions. Breakfast the same with a good choice for the traveller.

A very pleasant stay with friendly helpful staff. Good sized room with comfortable bed & good facilities. View from room obstructed by today's gadgetry for heating & kitchen regulations etc. All this made for unavoidable noise from the various systems until shutdown about 22:30 if window opened. TV screen too small if viewing from the comfort of the bed! Think kitchen below & noise although not obtrusive could be irritating to some. Walls between rooms very thin although hotel was very quiet.
Meals were good, a mixed selection between traditional & more modern fare but generous portions. Breakfast - standard selection and cooked to order. Again good value & pleasantly served. A busy country hotel with local employees, locally sourced ingredients for meals and a large spacious car park.
An enjoyable stay & ideal for my onward journeys.

The hotel bar area was comfortable but offered limited seating facilities due to part of the bar being taken up for dinning. The two main dinning areas at the back of the hotel were comfortable and spacious. The atmosphere was friendly, laid back and very easy going, almost felt like being at home. The waitress staff at dinner were excellent, very attentive and happy to help with any request. The rooms were made up daily and supplied with fresh towel.
