Amazing hotel stay. Really pleased with the room, the service, restaurant. We turned up quite late and hungry, it was around 9pm when we sat down for a 3 course meal. The food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially appreciated the warm hello from Michelle, the chef. Will not hesitate to stay here again.

Great food and a super comfy bed with all the amenities you could need

Great stay really nice rooms and great staff. Breakfast was really nice as well

Check in at the bar was a little strange - they didn't seem to be expecting any guests but I don't think they had any vacant rooms. The room was smaller than expected - the description of the room booked included a sofa but there was none. Only 1 towel initially supplied - that was noticed when we entered the room by Connie? and rectified. Food was very good for both dinner and breakfast.

My sister and I booked a double room with a sleeper couch because we were unable to get a twin room. The room was large and spacious and clean, with blackout blinds and curtains. The sleeper couch was a double bed size and needed to be made up on our arrival. However, for this bed there was no under-sheet or under-blanket supplied, only cushions and a duvet. One was expected to sleep on the couch itself, which ended up being very uncomfortable. Fortunately, it was only for one night, but I will certainly never book anything like that again. Besides this, the rest of our stay was otherwise pleasant. We had free onsite parking overnight, and an excellent breakfast with friendly service to round it all off.

Really enjoyed our 2 night stay at The Chequers. It was clean, evening food options very good and breakfast was huge. Phoebe's attention to breakfast details was outstanding.
Would certainly recommend this venue.

Stayed in this boutique style hotel and restaurant for one night as a couple. Were greeted by Kayla who was exceptionally friendly and seemed to do the majority of the work. The room was very good: clean, stylish and well equipped. Dinner was of excellent quality with a good choice and breakfast was similar. Just a couple of points let this hotel down. Several of the staff appeared downright miserable and, while they performed their jobs, failed to smile or make us feel welcome. Also, there was no marmalade available for breakfast ( how hard is it to pop out to a local shop if a delivery is missed?). No explanation was offered or apology given just "we haven't got any". Just a little extra training would put this place in the top league.

Comfortable clean rooms and generally warm welcome. Food was fair. Good base for Stevenage.

Very pleasant location - building was beautiful quiet large dining pub with spacious rooms, good taxi and late running bus connections into Welwyn, Knebworth and Stevenage for alternative nightlife and facilities! Staff were great!

Pleasant surrounding, with very clean room, helpful staff, quiet throughout the night and good supply of amenities.
What I didn’t like was lack of a walk-in shower and over done eggs when sunny-side was requested. Both minor.
Very good stay at The Chequers. I recommend it.

Lovely property. Food was delicious. Only issue I tried to contact them all day on my arrival day but the phone number was wrong on their expedia page. Definitely will be returning.

This is an hotel with a few guest rooms, and a nice gastropub.
The room was excellent, modern, spacious, clean, warm, tastefully decorated. Comfortable bed. Bathroom was spacious, clean, modern, including bath and shower.
Staff were helpful and friendly.
Breakfast was super
Quirky points were (i) TV could be turned on to home page, but a message read that the signal was not strong enough to connect to any channel (I used my laptop instead)
(ii) liquid soap container fixed to the shower wall was empty. But this wasn't a problem as another movable soap container was at the hand-basin
(iii) there was a good supply of sachets of coffee and decaffeinated tea (which I didn't use)+ one sachet of normal breakfast tea which I used (Earl Grey and green tea were also on offer).
(iv) In the shower/bath, three taps are available. It took me 2 minutes to understand that the central one is the temperature controller.

A nice big room, beautifully decorated with lots of nice little touches from fresh milk to an iron. Friendly staff, good WiFi, a nice shower and a very comfy bed.

What a lovely welcome by Kayla! Restaurant / pub was really nice, genuine home made fish pie. Rooms are well equipped and superb shower. Breakfast was equally good freshly prepared and served with a beaming smile.

Very pleasantly surprised and one of the most comfortable stays anywhere I've been. Problems with 'no poached eggs' meant most of breakfast menu was off which was both baffling and disappointing, otherwise would have been a 5 star stay. Will certainly look to come again and hope hot water and saucepans are available next time LOL

I stayed at The Chequers for 2 nights. Prior to my stay I had a few questions which the staff answered swiftly so that I was certain everything was sorted. My stay was very comfortable and the Chequers had a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient. I must congratulate the kitchen on the quality of the meals - had no complaints. Good breakfast choice and would recommend the poached eggs! My room was good, great bed and linen, space for me to work and a great shower. Everything was clean but my only minor negative feedback would be that the decor was a bit tired and would benefit from a bit of a refresh - but this did not get in the way of my enjoying my stay. I would highly recommend and I would not hesitate in staying here again. Thanks to all at The Chequers - keep up the great work.

Awesome experience. In the UK for our son's wedding. Needed to leave the wedding by 9am so reserved a room at the Chequers and arrived hours before check-in time. They were gracious and hospitable and offered us tea and biscuits while we waited for room to be ready. Allowed us to check-in early and then had a delicious meal that evening. The manager even accomodated my request for a hot toddy that night, even though he had.never made one before. It was.so delicious we ordered another one before bedtime. I suggested he put it on their menu for.the fall/winter season ;) going to breakfast shortly and am confident it will also be a positive experience. Dont miss this hidden gem when you visit the UK. Highly recomment staying here. The rooms are also clean and spacious. Thoughtfully stocked with all the "extras" to make you feel welcome (bottled water, coffee/tea station with cookies)

A lovely hotel. Very attentive staff. Good food.Great bathrooms. Location convenient for train travellers as it is only a few miles from Stevenage.

Excellent hotel, staff brilliant my only criticism is breakfast doesn’t start until 8am, as a business traveller I need to leave before 8.

The three points that I complain about one I misplaced my room key they open my door with the master key and told me it would have to stay open as they had no second key. This meant that during the night I couldn’t use fire escape all the door to the hotel God knows what might help me in a fire I had lunch with my daughter and grandson and they gave me a discount card for the next meal. I don’t evening I’ve booked a table for four and was refused at the discount as they say it had to be used the next day Ridiculous that God said the next meal or soon I got no sleep or very little sleep because the kitchen staff forgot to switch off the extractor which was under my room window and it went on all night till 8 o’clock the next morning. Not sure if I would stay there again Although I found a hotel apart from the thoughts above good

i was arriving later(out of hours) then expected due to a small collision on route, i phoned in and the staff were very accommodating and helpful, i got there and pretty much went straight to bed, a lovely comfortable room i had a great sleep. Breakfast in the morning was great, the staff were very chatty and nice, i did notice how clean the place was it was immaculate, i will def stay there again😃
