Fountain City has a great “small town” feel, where it’s possible to walk to bars, restaurants, coffee, and our convenience store. We are located right on the Great River Road. Surrounding homes are residential, with small businesses located right up the road in the Downtown area. Trains are frequently seen right in front of the house, as well as watercraft on the river – everything from boats and jet-skis, to large barges and old-time riverboat cruises!

Fountain City does have a large boat launch area if you’d like to explore the river, as well as a nice city park just down the road. Bluffs and other hiking/biking options abound! Watch overhead for soaring/nesting eagles! Merrick State Park is only 5 miles north for amazing opportunities to explore the river, canoe/kayak, picnic, experience wildlife, etc.

This historic home offers limited street parking on Great River Road. While there is no driveway or "parking-lot", parking is always abundant for our guests. Fountain City has a great “small town” feel, where it’s possible to walk to bars, restaurants, coffee, and our convenience store; although venturing into Winona, Minnesota (6 miles south) or beyond does require a car.

-----------------------------

Situated at the end of downtown Fountain City, Wisconsin on Great River Road, the 1898 Joseph Fugina House is a charming destination completely (and beautifully) restored with modern conveniences.

You will enter the home from the side door, which is private to you. All doors and all areas accessible to you within the Farmhouse Apartment are private to you and will not be shared with any other guests staying in the upstairs "Riverview Apartment" space.

Each of the two ample bedrooms has a queen size bed, fast Wi-Fi, and TVs in every bedroom and living room. The kitchen is completely updated with modern appliances and an eat-in dining area. The kitchen is fully stocked with all necessary cooking basics (pots, pans, etc.) as well as table service for six. Enjoy your meal, and some after-dinner games, in the dining room. Converse and take in the breathtaking Mississippi river views from the beautiful sun-room living room. With all the windows, you’ll love how comfortable you’ll feel. Super-fast Wifi for multiple streaming/video calls is available for your convenience, just in case you need to check in with the office.

The curved front porch and patios make for easy evening conversation and even more enjoyment of the views of the Mississippi, bluffs, and surrounding area.

You will want to fully immerse yourself in the local culture at the Joseph Fugina House. When staying, you will also have access to the backyard deck and propane grill so you’ll really feel at home! Railroad enthusiasts will love this historic railway town, and guests should note that there may be periodic track noise. Watercraft (small and large) are often seen from the home. Look out the window at fishing boats, jet-ski’s, and even large cargo barges – such a cool sight! Small town charm and a host of coffee shops, galleries and tasty eateries are just a few of the gems you’ll find downtown.

While Fountain City is walkable and has some great food options, Winona is the nearest location for shopping, groceries (Target, Walmart, Hy-Vee, Aldi, etc.) and is only 10 minutes away.

Distances: Winona, MN (10 mn), La Crosse, WI (45 min); Wabasha, MN (45 min); Rochester, MN (1 hr); Eau Claire, Tomah, Black River Falls, WI (1 hr); Minneapolis, St. Paul, MN (2 hr); Madison, WI (2.5 hr); Milwaukee, WI, Rockford, IL (4 hr); Chicago, IL (5.5 hr).

**Please note: located on the Great River Road, noise from the street and the rattle of passing trains may be heard in the home. Noise levels are generally low, but extremely light sleepers should consider the noise potential before booking. (Also, white noise machines are available in each suite for your comfort!)

Also - please note, that all all spaces within the apartment, as with all doors to your space, are completely private to you. Optionally, if desired, the Farmhouse 2 bedroom apartment space, MAY be rented alongside the Riverview 3 bedroom apartment space upstairs. The layout of the home would allow for interior access to both spaces simultaneously for a larger group needing 5 bedrooms.

Our family took a short Midwest road trip before school starts back up, and one of our stops was this great “apartment” in Fountain City. We were visiting the area with our two teens to check out my husband's alma mater (St. Mary's of Minnesota). The renovations maintain the vintage original features (beautiful fllorrs, woodwork, windows), but incorporate the modern conveniences — it feels like staying in a home. I particularly liked the vintage cabinets combined with the "modern farmhouse" vibe in the kitchen, the formal dining room, and the large, spotless bathroom. The owners are very communicative, check in was easy. A note about the trains and the road - We barely noticed the trains or the traffic, so unless you are very sensitive, seems lie a non-issue. I addition to our visit to campus, the area has a lot to offer -- fishing on the Mississippi, walking up the bluffs, antiques, the oldest continuously operating pub in Wisconsin, the Legendary Monarch Public House. Sunsets over the river are beautiful. Highly recommend this property!

The “apartment” was much roomier than we expected from the photos. Usually it’s the opposite. It was clean and well appointed. Two couples would have plenty of living space. The extent of our cooking was brewing coffee, but there seemed to be enough pots and pans to fry some eggs, make a frozen pizza, and a grill for burgers or steaks. We stayed five nights to see the surrounding area - Winona, La Crosse, Pepin, Stockholm, area parks, and some relatives in Rochester. Great central location with very easy street access. The river view is nice. We were never disturbed by the rail traffic, but then we live in one of the suburbs surrounding O’Hare. :) Local restaurants were OK. We really enjoyed Sliced on Center Street in Winona, and for our date night, the Nosh restaurant on Walnut in Winona was spectacular. Equally nice was the Harbor View Cafe in Pepin, right before our sunset sailboat ride on Pepin Lake. We highly recommend this house. We will consider bringing more of our family in the future and rent the entire home.

Lovely accommodations with a wonderful view and setting. Thoughtfully appointed, we enjoyed all the amenities the host provided. Sleeping arrangements were very comfortable and the living area by the fireplace was a wonderful place to relax, watch the river or view something on the TV.

We just stayed for one night between local site seeing. Property beat our expectations in every way. Very clean and roomy place to stay and everything worked as advertised. For an older house we were pleasantly surprised by the overall space and very nice bathroom. Doubt you'll find a nicer place for the price anywhere!

This is a charming place to stay in and a nice walk friendly location with lovely views of the Mississippi river. We stayed with a 9-yr old kid and a 7 month old Lab in the lower apartment for four nights during spring break. The two bedrooms are comfortable and surprisingly quiet even with the trains. The host thoughtfully provided a white noise machine and ear plugs, which we didn’t have to use. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom very clean. The TVs in the apartment were conveniently setup with automatic clearing of login credentials to various streaming services upon checkout. Our kid and pup enjoyed hanging out in the house, and playing and lounging in the lovely terraced backyard. Several good restaurants are at a walking distance from the apartment and so are the community parks. This location is 10 mins drive to Winona, MN and close to Alma, WI. We also enjoyed visiting Kinstone, where we got to see lovely granite sculptures, connect with nature and farm animals and cats if you like them! We also enjoyed hiking in the nearby Merrick State park. The host (Logan) was very responsive - we misplaced check-in instructions but he walked us through the process when we called. Logan also was kind enough to ship some things we forgot at the property when we checked out and promptly texted back to questions we had during our stay. We would definitely come back.

We worked with Logan to coordinate an impromptu weekend visit to the Winona area to spend time with our child who attends WSU. Logan was courteous and accommodating in helping us book last minute travel. The property was just a pictured. It was clean, spacious and welcoming. We weren't sure if your child wanted to crash with us during the visit (which she did) and the place was perfect for nesting. There were 2 couches for 3 people to sprawl out on, a kitchen with everything you could need, comfortable beds. Husband says it's been his favorite place to stay when we visit Winona.
