Arrived and was ignored by staff as they were too busy to book us in. Once in room there was no hot water and window was obscured by dirty laundry trolleys, so no view. Woken up very early the next morning with beeping of the wagon reversing to collect laundry and then moving all the trolleys. More trolleys present that evening, asked reception if the same collection time was to occur they could not answer and weren't very sympathetic as just stated it's a main road. That evening heard loud voices outside window, staff having smoke break bad mouthing their supervisors.

Came in to the room freezing and the toilet bowl wasnt cleaned there were urine marks on it .the beds were so uncomfortable and extra firm didnt sleep well at all and the duvet covers were so thin hardly kept a heat in
Staff were nice though
The prices of the drinks are a bit steep wont be buying them again

Very easy stay, staff great and helpful, I'll be back.

Needed a cheap room for a business trip and this did the trick. Spacious room but the hotel and rooms are aged

Was fine for what it was. Cheap and cheerful. Staff were very nice

We booked this hotel as it was roughly cheapest for one night stay in Edinburgh. Its a 45 min walk into Edinburgh or 10 mins in taxi. Taxi cost us about £10. The room was badic but clean. Shower was powerful and enough clean towels for the 2 of us. There was a freeview tv. Kettle tea and coffee. We had a couple of drinks in bar before heading out. Staff were lovely.
2.0
There was mold on the bath mat, around the soap dispenser and on the tiles around the bath in all three rooms.
This was off-putting for the young people we had booked the room for

The outside of the building was not inviting and more signs to confirm you are heading in the right direction would be beneficial. The restaurant was not inviting very open, cafeteria environment. Not welcoming for a late night drink.
The room, whilst clean, was very old fashioned, beds looked like they were from the 60s. Mattress dipping in the middle. Only 1 pillow per bed. No extra blankets in case you got cold.
Window looking out to river was lovely but window is in desperate need of a clean on the outside.
Bathroom was mouldy, mould on the ceiling and black grout in-between tiles.
No toilet brush.
Very noisy, with peoples room doors slamming, some door closers on these would be beneficial.
Also a larger tv would be better.
Better quality of tea and coffee would be nice.

It was fine just to sleep, the room could do with sockets by the bed, windows be cleaned, the kettle was rusty. The shower could do with a squiggy broom to clear the water as it gets sprayed everywhere.

Cannot stress enough that this hotel is still in business only due to the incredibly and unjustified high prices of accomodations in town. That's why I chose it and I regret it. It's far from everything, old, badly maintained, and not very clean. Do yourself a favour, invest some more money and pick any other place.

It was very cold in the hotel and far from a bus root, had t wait an hour for a taxi

This hotel should now be reclassified as a hostel and a very poor over priced one at that. No housekeeping service unless we stayed longer than 4 days! The beds remained unmaid, room not cleaned daily and toilet left uncleaned. The room was made up of unmatched furniture and the bed mattresses were like sleeping on a bag of rocks.

The place advertises an old façade and yet it's a cruddy new build. The rooms felt shabby and post Soviet. The shower was terrible. It's also not near a single thing. Even though the listing says it's downtown. Not a store, not a bar, not a restaurant, nothing. But the big piece is that they actually have no Wi-Fi in the rooms? I mean, it's 2024. Give me a break. The place was dismal and I'll never go there again and I'm angry that hotels.com lets things advertise the way they do.

Dated, run down and just unpleasant.
Room was not serviced at all in the four nights we stayed, hot water was turned off for maintenance in the morning, surely this should be done overnight when guests are sleeping. Fire alarm went off, staff did not know what to do, fire exit almost blocked by two large skips. Extraction fan stuffed full of toilet paper, iron leaked and did not have a current PAT certificate as did the kettle. Saturday morning early deliver right under window, surely use the delivery bay. Room smells of damp. Bath not cleaned, slip mat was full of hair, mould in shower curtain and on tile grout, two small bottles of shower gel for two adults for four nights and when I say small I mean small. Bed very uncomfortable. Hotel needs a complete refurbishment. On check out day our door was knocked twice before our official leaving time to see if we had gone. Would we stay here again - hell no!

A room in the basement without window. The smell was not good. Not a nice place.

Proabablt the worst hotel iv ever stayed in, onky picked it dur yo the location, which is a readon i also expecetdd it to be 100% better than it was. Was no hot water between 10am and 3pm, we asked for a refund which was refused by staff or ahould i say they had ang excuse not yo offer a refind or partial refund as we were not notified prior to check in. Room was smelly, didnt appear to be overly clean, toliet flushed but with 99% struggle from the plumbing side of it, wouldnt flush toliet roll. The curtain pole fell of tge wall when i tried closing them at night time. We also had a door in the room which lead to another resdients room which wasnt the issue it was the nose qe could hear, could here them soeaking on the phone, using the toliet, and even openeing cans. We also werent told about the paid parking, so i had to pay £15 for 2 days.
I personally would avoid this hotel untill they sort and upgrade this establishment, becasue what an absolute shame it was for such a good location.

We were in town for a wedding which started at 13:30. I arrived at the hotel early roughly 12:30 to leave bags and potentially get an early check in as I had been advised to do by the hotel on the day before the event. The woman at the front desk informed us that they couldn't offer an early check in but she would leave a note at the front desk saying we would be back late. This either didnt happen or the message was lost because when we arrived back after the event had finished we were told that they had given our room away. This was around 02.00 on a bank holiday Sunday and we were told "I dont know what you want me to do" after standing about arguing with the front desk for about 10 minutes we were offered an out of service room that had no lights. Obviously we took it as it was either that or nothing but the situation itself was shocking to say the least. How can you pay money for something up front and then not be provided the thing you paid for. Pure greed on the part of the hotel. I felt sorry for the guy on the front desk who i genuinely believe hadn't been informed about us coming and he did give us a complimentary breakfast however I didnt feel like this was enough. I would recommend staying elsewhere.

The Hotel is very run down. The double glazing is sub standard as road noise was very audible. The photos are clearly old and not representative of the current state. We even had to put up with a delivery being made via a fire escape at 05:30 one morning.

Staff have poor service first experience was walking into reception where the lady was on her phone, followed by her asking “can I help or you just standing there?” In the most sarcastic way possible. Secondly wanted to keep our bags at the hotel on day of checkout and had to pay extra for this service, I’ve never had this in any hotel I’ve stayed at before.
Room was of decent quality as only a 1 night stay but if was staying for more than 2 nights it’s a big No! Shower wasn’t the cleanest and very dingy, room had poor view and overall not a great experience.
To conclude, this hotel will do fine for a 1/2 night stay if you only plan to use it to sleep in, apart from that I’d recommend elsewhere.

Had the windowless room which makes you feel like you're in a prison cell, when I asked to change the room it took me 5 calls before I could get through to reception who were very rude and abrupt. When I asked if I could pay for an upgrade to a room with a window..... I was told 'no we have already overbooked by 6 rooms'. Customer service is terrible

to find this place you see the back of it the entrance is round the back and down the slope, your greeted with 1970's style plastic flowers in the hanging baskets, you enter and its dark the room was all dark wood and bland colouring i wanted parking which they had at an extra cost per day this was not in the blurb was it worth the nearly 400 quid plus another 15 quid for parking for the 2 night stay considering its about a 20 min walk in to Edinburgh nope it was not

This just about a 3 star hotel. The staff were good and friendly but the building is old and tired and as such there is quite a long list of things that need significant improvement. The most frustrating feature was the very low water pressure which made showering a poor experience and toilets when flushed took forever to work again. The towels were quite small and no floor mat was supplied so the whole showering experience was frustrating.

No cleaning, soaps, bathroom toilet rolls stand broken, only 1 in 3 lifts working. In breakfast most things were empty/ finished.
Just poor service and unfriendly staff.

The hotel was very run down, and the staff were very unprofessional. On multiple occasions. There were many health and safety risks. In terms of fire doors obstructed, trip and fall hazards. Overall, beyond basic, and not really budget friendly.

We booked within short time and the room was the cheapest around. Stayed in the lower ground without window, which was not a problem anyway. Room with basic Interieur but everything was clean. Beds we're not comfortable, they need to be replaced

We were allocated room 27, a room without any windows or any ventilation. We did not have air conditioning.
The car park had bins overflowing with rubbish. it was a filthy environment.
I will spend every remaining day of my life warning people not to go anywhere near the Britannia hotel

Room was basic, bed uncomfortable and breakfast warm. Hotel was clean and presentable but in need of refurbishment!

The staff was unbelievable rude. It is by far the worst hotel I have stayed in. Having wifi in your room, leaving your luggage at the hotel after check out and many other services were extra. We stayed two nights and they never cleaned our room or changed neither the sheets nor the towels. The worst was the staff’s attitude. I do not recommend it to anyone. I will continue my stay in Edinburgh in a different hotel because staying at Britannia Hotel has been a nightmare.

Worst stay in weeks of travel so far - the bathroom reeked of mildew, likely from the shower curtain which was covered in black spots. We had to keep the door closed to not be completely overwhelmed and even purchased a small candle to hope to tolerate using the bathroom. So gross.

Only stayed 1 of the nights of our 2 booked and paid for. Shabby hotel, very uncomfortable bed with springs pushing up, no under cover slips on pillows and the spare pillow had no covering at all. Reception provided 1 at our request. Tv was so small it was hard to read. bath had black mould on the silicon seal, so didnt use the shower.
Only good thing was the car parking facility….. on hindsight should have gone to premier inn and paid city parking.
4.0
A room with no window or ventilation even though I had booked a room with a window. Bath panel half fitted. Dirty communal areas. Luckily only a one night stay and never again
