Was alright, quite noisy early morning with fire doors banging shut. A great lack of plug sockets when we found a near one it wasn't working. This is a grand hotel but cant help feeling the rooms could do with a bit of modernising. Breakfast was good and the staff very accomadating.

It was disappointing. We have been regular guests over the last few years but not sure I'll go back.
Room was too hot, no internet in rooms or public areas, bed too uncomfortable - I even slept on the floor on first night - bath small, distance between bath and toilet very small and I cut my thigh on the toilet roll holder. As it drew blood, I decided not to use the sauna for hygiene reasons and it was mentioned that the chlorine in the pool probably wouldn't be too good for me neither. As we had gone mainly for the pool and spa, that was the end of that part of our break.
Breakfast was also sometimes chaotic; on the first morning, there were no cups for hot drinks, no glasses for fruit juice, no bowls for fruit or cereal and no plates for cooked breakfast. Of course it can be hard to judge what time guests might want to have breakfast but I don't remember this type of situation before, and on the last night, had to wait over an hour for a bar snacks Margherita pizza. Not sure what type was brought but it wasn't what we ordered and I couldn't eat it, it tasted of marmite.

This was probably the worst hotel stay we have experienced. Firstly it wasn't cheap £95 of the room plus £10 for our dog plus £5 for parking. Exterior of hotel impressive, Interior dated and in need of a big refurb. Resembled a care home and food smelled institutional. We were given a room on the ground floor, Great! as we had cases, a dog and bags. Long walk to tiny crooked staircase and our room. Looked like student accommodation with the cheapest furniture, no space to move at all, heating on full blast, which made it like an oven. We had to move the furniture to open the window and wedge it open with a bottle of water. The MOST uncomfortable tiny double bed, we didn't sleep at all! Horrible horrible, the photos say it all! The extremely pleasant cleaning lady, said next time ask for a room on the main floor! Definitely won't be a next time!!!! Coach loads of people on cheap trips with anyone else subsidising their costs I presume! We were room 8 unfortunately.

Lovely check in. The receptionists was friendly, efficient, professional and had superb local knowledge.
The hotel is well maintained, and beautiful.
The pool was clean and calm with nice staff, with excellent sauna and steam room.
Our stay was perfect.
3.7
Very good quality hotel at a decent price
3.7
Possibly the worst bed I've ever slept on, room not made up during stay.

Before booking the hotel, I read reviews (for the standard double room), it was not so great, but it's the only place we found with availability near where we were going, so I went ahead and booked it.
Upon arrival of the hotel, the outside and the lobby were beautiful, and they had the air of elegance, and there were many well-dressed cliental, and looks like it's a place for a destination wedding. Well, we were sorely disappointed with our room. Here are a few major and minor issues:
* OUR SINK WILL NOT DRAIN.
* We only had one set of towels, and they were SO THIN and old and ratty.
* The room was small that you cannot move your suitcase around the bed without lifting over the bed to it to the other side.
* There were 2 packs of coffee (all others we been to had 6 or more packs)
* No elevator to our room, 3 flights up (something to consider)
* All the pillows were hard as a rock
The only good thing I can say is that it is clean. I can put us a lot as long as the room is clean.

I enjoyed staying in this large grand hotel near the station for a very reasonable price. The compact room was a bit bigger than expected and the bathroom had a large bath with shower. I only stayed one night but was disappointed that it was advertised with an indoor pool yet that wasn't available due to renovation. Otherwise a very nice stay.
3.7
Room need tidy comfortable bed near train station town centre check in and out quick friendly staff will stay again here

We had a nice two night stay at the hotel in a compact double. It was definitely compact with just enough room to move round the bed but that was okay. Maybe if they removed the bath fro the shower room and had just the shower it would make more room.
The room was too warm and it was quite and effort to open the window as these were heavy sash windows and I had to prop it open with a shoe. Unfortunately we backed on to the ventilation system which was going all night.
The breakfast was very nice. It was buffet style but everything was cooked really well. It would be useful to have a second tea and coffee station.
The hotel was very well place for everything we wanted to do over the weekend.
Parking was an additional cost and we struggled to park when we got back to the hotel.
3.7
There was no mention on Hotels.com that swimming pool, sauna and hot tub is beeing refurbished. Average room furniture, could get a better room for much lower price if i knew there is no swimming pool and sauna
3.7
The hotel itself was beautiful in the main areas. Our room was the worst we have stayed in. The bathroom had paint peeling off the ceiling, rusty pipes, broken tap, broken toilet seat, the flooring was lifting, mold, no plug for the sink, the net curtain didn’t close and you were seen in the shower. We paid a high amount for this hotel as we specifically wanted to use the spa only to find it was shut for a refurb. We spoke to reception who said the hotel was full and they couldn’t move us. We didn’t want to use the bathroom or shower and spent the evening out of our room only to sleep and leave in the morning as early as possible. Will not be going back nor recommending it.

We have visited several times now and feel really at home there. The food is very good too.
3.7
Clean, comfortable with good service. Close to train station and the town. Quiet stay.
3.7
Do not recall any information with regards to the pool being under refurb and the gym being used for material storage.
The room was as clean as it could be but it was so dated and everything well used/worn
3.7
We had a very pleasant stay. Sorry the swimming pool was being refurbished. Will check it available next time we book.
3.7
One night stay for anniversary and booked as it said there was A swimming pool and spa I was informed that it was closed for renovation even on hotels it said nothing about it being closed. The bathroom was a joke. You had to walk sideways and could barely get on the toilet. Didn’t even try to attempt to use the shower. The rooms were very dark with no access to open the window, just a fan and also the bed was so uncomfortable. I’ve never been in such awful hotel.
3.7
Room though large and clean need refurbishment. Plenty of hot water but bathroom dated from about 1985...and looks it. Ground floor open ateas in good condition and cheap parking (£5 per day). Bedrooms need updating though...
3.7
The rooms were dated. The first room we had to vacate it was smelt damp and was dark. We were re located to another, but the sink was cracked and the baths enamel was pealing in one place. Will not be returning
3.7
This was My first stay in this hotel and paying over £100 a night for admitedly a spacious luxurious room is it not a bit much to then have to pay a further £5 a night to park in its grounds....
The only problem I encountered was the intermitent wi-fi signal and as regards the T.V. given the clientele I would strongly suggest they add the 'Talking Pictures' channel to those we can watch.
3.7
Great time at the Palace Hotel.
Only thing that let them down is the bar service...it is very slow.
3.7
Very tired old hotel…. Amazing building from the outside. Could do with a £1m makeover.
Plug hole in the sink blocked when we first turned up to the room, towel rail was hanging off the wall. The sink in the bathroom is too small to fill the kettle up which is provided in the room. Bedding not clean. The room had not been checked before it was let. Cheap price but Hou can see why.
3.7
the only thing we didn't like was the noise from round the back we had to move rooms
3.7
We enjoyed our one night stay here. Quite a wait to check in as only one person on reception and having to deal with queries as well as booking people in. It was probably a ‘rush hour’ time though.
Parking was good as wasn’t sure on spaces. It is very convenient for town as just across the road and everywhere walkable.
Our room was small as standard double but I think on other sites it was classed as ‘cosy’ but was only 1 night so was fine for us. The en-suite looked recently refreshed and was very clean.
3.7
The bed was comfortable and the TV a good size. We stayed two nights and the room was not serviced. The pool cost £6 per session and parking £5 per day. So for £162.90 per night all you got was bed and very chaotic breakfast. The staff were not helpful or forthcoming. The clean sheets for next occupant were placed on the dirty floor before being put on the bed. It is possibly the worst hotel experience I have had.
3.7
Had to pay to park. Room tiny, couldn’t even occupy the toilet properly as it was too cramped
3.7
Long waits to see reception. Lift needs modernising. About half the rooms are not on the same levels as served by the lift.
3.7
Lift needs updating. Bedroom basic but clean and services good. Breakfast good.Outside facilities good if the weather is fine.
3.7
The only entrance is via revolving doors the hidden alternative “accessible” entrance, which is not wheel chair accessible, has its own obstacle course. Getting into the hotel with a number of bags is a challenge.
The public areas are impressive even though there is so much furniture it is difficult to move around. The front desk was ok and reasonably helpful, if there was someone there — not always the case.
Having found my way through the labyrinth of airless corridors to my assigned room 22 and the key did not work, another trek back to reception for adifferent key card but that didn’t work either so they gave me room 23 instead.
The room was abysmal, in the noisy service area amongst the store rooms, windowless and cramped. Good job I do not suffer from claustrophobia. The bed was comfortable enough but that could not make up for the absolutely dreadful room. No cell phone service in the room, so the only internet option was to buy their expensive “premium” service. When booking no indication given that the room was in the dungeons.
I tried to get the room changed but they claimed to be full except for two other dungeon rooms which I declined.
The breakfast was good but at £15 very expensive as was their coffee at £4 a cup.
The wifi in the public areas was supposed to be free but the signal strength was so poor it was useless.
I first stayed in the Palace over 40 years ago but never again.
3.7
Relaxing and comfortable in spacious accommodation
3.7
We liked the grounds and the conservatory and patio area.
The staff were ok but we’re working under difficult circumstances.
However there are steps in the grounds of the hotel which need urgent attention before an accident occurs.
One lift in an hotel of that size is ridiculous.
The staff were under so much pressure that empty glasses were left outside ( tables not cleared) for a whole evening.
Quite honestly the hotel needs to be updated, our bedroom was very basic and we felt that bathroom was not up to standard.
Only dinner available was carvery
3.7
For the money not a very good room on top floor small opening window. Did not use shower of bath dirty smelly water coming up the plughole when emptying hand wash basin.
3.7
Love it has an old fashioned grandeur feel
3.7
Expensive for slightly down at heel hotel. Good central location but not a lot else going for it
3.7
Very poor hotel experience. Hotel computers down meant it took an hour to get into the room. Thirty minutes having to stand in a queue for only one person on reception who asked what she should charge you! Payment was then taken and another 30 minutes to get a room key.
Also extra hidden charges. Wi- Fi you have to pay. Parking you have to pay. Leisure centre you have to pay. Was not advised of the last even though I asked about using the pool so I had a disappointed trip. The breakfast was also disappointing quality, choice and options. The room was clean but dated and there were not enough plug sockets. The room was really hot as no air con and the window closed with curtains open and the sun streaming in- for all day and all the time I was stuck in the lobby. There is also no fridge in the room so the water offered was sat in the sun and was discoloured likely because the plastic bottle had reacted in the direct sunlight.
I would avoid and stay elsewhere.
3.7
Was originally put into an unacceptable room. Didn't use the bed as knew we couldn't stay in that room. Spoke with front desk who moved us and sorted our problem out straight away.
3.7
Hotel was clean and well maintained but staff I interacted with were unfriendly with little interest in my needs. No offer to purchase breakfast or evening meal.
3.7
The one thing I can say about this Hotel, it’s better than it’s Manchester sister, but that’s setting a bar so low a small asthmatic rodent could climb over with little difficulty.
The room, while functional and clean, was small and claustrophobic, no windows. It seemed this was a space that had been repurposed; this room was basically in a storage area. The bed was comfortable enough, although the furnishings were minimal and not of great quality, we’re talking low grade Ikea here.
It’s just as well I had an iPad for entertainment, because while there was a TV in the room (at 90’ to the bed) there was no remote, so it was rendered useless.
That said, WiFi is not free, there’s a seven pounds a day charge. Not even drinking water is free; while a bottle is provided for the first night, they’ll charge for the rest.
As I said, the Buxton Palace is not as God-awful as the Machester Britannia, but it still has an air of being unloved, a lot of signs of wear and tear, and need of a lick of paint.
Staff were variable, from Jobsworth to friendly and helpful. Hats of to the manager who did her best to resolve some of these issues, again better than the experience in Manchester where the Manager refused to deal with complaints.
But to be honest, I’m not inclined to recommend the Palace. There are nicer places to stay in Buxton.
3.7
They've made some efforts to improve the place, but it's still not really as good as it should be. Charging for WiFi is unacceptable, check in was lamentably (and only from 4pm) slow, and check out at 10 as it ridiculous.
3.7
You are expected to pay for wifi in your room - I was disappointed with this.
