Staff were very nice and the food was amazing.

Lovely traditional country hotel with great service.
4.2
Great place to stay in Chard, a short walk to the town and with an excellent car charger too.
4.2
Spacious family room, plenty of parking and welcoming, professional staff. Outside building work to a neighbouring property meant it was quite noisy if we opened the windows.

Such an amazing tucked away hotel! Food was incredible and very tasty.
Room was extremely comfortable and cosy! Definitely coming back

Stayed for a couple of nights to visit family not seen for a couple of years. Rooms are clean and spacious, the food in the bar and restaurant are better than expected with great service. The breakfast is a little limited unless you want to pay the added £7:50 for the cooked breakfast. There is lots of parking and it very easy to find, if we cant stay with family on our next visit we would stay again.

Am still very concerned that I was not able to resolve the matter of being booked into 2 rooms not one over the phone yesterday as my booking reference could not be traced. I do not want to be charged twice as I’m sure you can understand and so will send an email

Weekend with friends for 50th birthday. Nice comfy room. I liked the kettle in the room. Good bar atmosphere and GORGEOUS breakfast. Good, easy online check in & quick contactless checkout

The hotel was great and the staff friendly. However the speed of food service was very poor and some of the food very average.

Great breakfast and food in restaurant absolutely delicious.
Large room and good ensuite.
Many young staff all obliging
Wifi not available in the evening/early morning.
Confusion over room service, we asked for our room to be serviced but only happened after 1st night.
Bed comfy but pillows hard.
Creaky wardrobe.
Beware of the pot holes in the lane.
No major problems but lots of little niggles and a bit of tlc needed.
Would stay again

Very mixed feelings about staying and I feel to be fair. The staff, breakfast and cleanliness were good. Sometimes whilst travelling this can be the most important.
For me, I love quality. With a few upgrades, painting over cup stain marks in the room etc would really upgrade the hotel.
Small things that could make a big difference and show that the owners care about their clients.
Overall a pleasant stay and staff were lovely. The room was really clean also, a huge bonus.

Brilliant place! Such a find. Rooms are good and looks like recently modernised, the welcome by Martin was so lovely, food is sensational the chef has a Rosette! We will definately be back!

Staff were friendly, room fine, obviously more difficult for staff working under Covid rules but they were overall efficient. I thought I'd mad a mistake getting to the hotel as it took me through a newish housing estate then up a track but sat-nav was spot on.

Throughly enjoyed our break the staff nice and friendly the food excellent

Perfect base for exploring the local area. Lovely food and friendly staff. Children were made welcome.

The hotel is in a secluded area in the middle of fields, so very quiet. The room was homely with a sofa for watching TV. The dinner was excellent where we has bream and king prawn linguini. Breakfast was equally special and a cut above the large chains. Finally and equally important, all pandemic precautions were well implemented. We were there the hottest August day for a decade, so it was a little hot during the night, but we shouldn’t complain about that should we!
4.2
Really kind and welcoming staff, a very happily accommodating chef who will cook you up whatever you desire. This hotel is a surely going to be a returning favourite anytime we are on business in Chard.

Decent enough but our room needed some TLC. Drinks expensive
Staff friendly - very nice manageress indeed who made the stay far more pleasurable.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble although we did not have the room we had requested a few days earlier. We did not have dinner in the hotel so cannot comment on that but the breakfast was very good. We feel we should point out that the staircase to the upstairs rooms is somewhat of a challenge for anyone with a disability.

Hotel is situated away from roads and would normally be a quiet place to stay. On the day we stayed however there was a very noisy wedding reception in progress which kept us awake past midnight, just when we really needed sleep. The staff were very apologetic and did compensate us, but really we should have been notified of this in advance. Food was good and the rooms OK, but the beds were not as comfortable as we would have wished. Affordable and nice place to stay, barring wedding receptions.

We found the total experience wonderful, food, bed, surroundings, everything.

Excellent quaint hotel with superb restaurant and great staff

My review needs to be objective because we didn't arrive until nearly 11pm on Christmas day after a very hard 5 hour drive on very difficult roads with a very large trailer so we were very tired and it was very dark.
Sandwiches & soup were promised but only sandwiches, clearly from the dridge, were left for us, the soup would have been appreciated, and we were told to help ourselves to a bowl of nuts and then we were left, all staff were gone, lights turned out!
The room was perfectly acceptable, a bit like a Travelodge room, it was clean as far as we could tell but the towels smelled very strongly of a very strange detergent or chemical that was not very nice.
We got up and needed to make an early start, we hoped there would be breakfast but saw a note on the reception desk that said breakfast started at 8.15, we needed to leave at 7.30…..purely by chance the breakfast chef (very nice chap) turned up early not knowing breakfast was at 8.15 so he knocked up some eggs, bacon & toast and I dealt with the coffee machine.
We never actually saw the hotel in daylight so I can't give an opinion of any views but I got the impression from the road trip that it was surrounded by a housing estate, a little odd as hotel locations go and a little isolated but then everything is in Devon.
