I forgot to mention my mobility problem when making the booking. The Receptionist noticed I walked with a stick and moved us to a more accessible room. Very kind.
The vegetarian selection selection on the menu in the Dining Room was very poor and over-priced.

Love the history and general feel of the building.
Rooms are tired, particularly the bathrooms, really need updating and the they would be wonderful.
Service in the outdoor restaurant poor, had to keep leaving the table to get someone to serve us, and Manager wasn’t particularly interested.

We were very disappointed at our dinner in the Oak room but did not complain as we were entertaining guests and did not find it value for the cost. Specifically my partner and I ordered Liver pink but when we tried to eat we both found that the liver had been heavily overcooked and the accompanying 'jus' was highly acidic and we were unable to eat the portions as might have been noted in the kitchens. Otherwise the food was OK
Also the service in the lounge was slow as we had to wait for our drinks order to be taken and then our wine to be delivered both after reminders (a half an hour from from the time we arrived!)
Generally the service was otherwise fine
We will not be visiting the George again

The room was large and airy, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was, as usual, first class with a diverse selection of food available.
Staff were all polite and helpful.
Sadly our room was located above the bar area and although there was no interruption to our sleep by way of people there was some sort of machinery which operated all night which did interrupt my sleep. I think it was some sort of glass washer and I will endeavour to not be loacted in that area of the hotel should we visit again.

Tea at breakfast a little weak. No lamb cutlets at breakfast as per the menu.

Everything apart from the loss of my ear buds which sadly were not found

Breakfast was excellent. Located down one short flight of stairs
No tea or coffee making facilities in room. No hairdryer

Such beautiful traditional style rooms with lots of space, the staff were welcoming and attentive however the star of the trip was the food - exceptionally good
Nothing, we were all very happy

Due to the nature of the building room styles vary - we had a lovely characterful room which was spacious and well appointed. Olde world charm with oak panelling. Windows open for fresh air but air conditioning was available in that room.
The formal dining room, The Oak Room, always excels in service and quality - a full separate vegetarian menu for those who require.
A delicious breakfast is served in the Garden Room. Two well stocked bars with open fireplaces and very comfortable lounge style seating.
Travellers should be aware that due to the nature and age of the building this is not a place for people with accessibility issues if wishing to access the floors above the ground level.

Situation of the hotel ,comfortable bed etc.
In the first time ever in a Hotel for years we were advised on Reception that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in any of the bedrooms.Whilst we were able to order via room service (without cost) at times early morning/late night this was not convenient .

Outstanding staff. Breakfast superb
Tea tray in room

The room was very comfortable with good storage. A suitcase stand to aid packing and unpacking was a very good addition. The en-suite bathroom was excellent, providing a shower cap; shampoo, bath, shower gel and hand cream; tissues, cotton wool buds, and pads; a rubber bathmat to prevent slipping; two cotton bathrobes in the cupboard, plus a trouser press.
Breakfast was excellent, with very good choices. The afternoon tea was delicious. The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The garden is beautiful and well cared for, plus plenty of parking.
It was a great shame that the room was very hot and neither we nor the hotel porter was able to get the air conditioning to work. We were offered a different room, but as we had already settled in we declined and opened the windows instead, which, unlike many other hotels, was easily possible.
There was no lift, so for anyone who finds stairs very difficult it might not be ideal. However, despite my difficulties with stairs I would still visit again as it is such a beautiful building in which to stay.

very impressive building and grounds
room was smaller than expected

Staff were very friendly. Lots of car parking.
There were no tea making facilities in the bedroom which one would expect from such a highly rated hotel. A pot of tea, a small glass of orange juice and a newspaper were brought to our room in the morning but there were no biscuits. Also no ironing board and iron in the room. Dressing gowns were provided but no slippers and I would have expected a shoe polisher. Prices for food and drinks were very expensive. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the breakfast however. We were left waiting ages for our food and did not receive our first course at all until we complained and then I didn't fancy mine. When the main course did arrive, we were quite disappointed with the food. My husband's full English was pretty small and my Eggs Benedict was lukewarm and the muffin was hard and not toasted. In fairness, the hotel deducted the cost of our breakfast from our final bill and apologised but we would much rather have paid in full and received the service and quality of breakfast one would expect. The hotel is also looking very tired in places and needs some investment going forward. All in all, we were really looking forward to staying here but came away very disappointed.

Christmas meeting for friends. exquisite declarations so magical and fantastic food

Very friendly and polite staff. Nice Hotel and very good restaurant
The Room was disappointing, we booked the best room/suite in the hotel.
1. It didn't have a mini bar,
2. the small TV was the same size as my laptop,
3. There were no tea or coffee-making facilities
4. The bed was about 4 feet off the ground and you. had to leap to get to it.
For the price we paid this room should have had the above.
We stayed in the Crown Hotel and it was much better. Big 65in Smart tv, all the facilities, and the bed was a normal low-level bed.

This a wonderfully reliable traditional hotel. It is really comfortable with excellent staff Th egg location is delightful in a lovely historic town and beautiful countryside close by.
There is nothing to dislike.

the property is beautiful and exactly what we expected. we ate in the garden room
and the food was amazing. the best seafood we have eaten for a long while

beautiful old Georgian property with lots of character - restaurants were the highlight - exceptional food and great service by every member of the George’s team.
felt our bedroom was a little underwhelming for the price and it was very cold when we visited so we felt the room was a little cool even with the electric heater - we also felt the open fire in the bar area could have been fed with more wood to get a good blaze.

charming building and even more charming staff, delicious food
