Historical hotel in prime downtown location. Close to restaurants, coffee shops and stores. Lovely staff. Restaurant offers fantastic breakfasts.

The location of this hotel is excellent - we walked all around downtown Nelson and felt we got to know the city a bit after 4 days. The Hume is a clean, beautiful historic hotel with attentive staff.
We arrived and were told that the Queen room I had booked was a "Pub Queen," meaning that it was above the pub, and we could expect it to be noisy, but not too noisy on weeknights. Are you kidding? I would never have booked a room called a "Pub Queen," if it had been described this way on Booking.com! The only options were to pay more for a suite or take a "European" room on the 4th floor. We accepted the latter and ended up in perhaps the most cramped hotel room I've every stayed in (smaller than Parisian hotel rooms). The bathroom was similarly tiny and cramped. The room was clean and comfortably appointed with nice linens, but it was boiling hot unless we opened a window or turned on the A/C. The pub is a lively place for a drink and entertainment, but one wouldn't want to have a room adjacent to or above it!

No parking was a bit of an issue
Parking, or a voucher for the parkade next door, should have been included

Nothing we didn't like

Gorgeous and comfortable. The AC worked well for such an old building, which was a pleasant surprise. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding areas.
Only complaint was water pressure, and this is a minor complaint

Complementary breakfast.
I thought room was going to be bigger and I didn't have view even though I booked with one

The Made to Order breakfast was one of the best we have ever had included in all of our hotel stays! The staff also helped us with a voucher for parking because we could not find a place on the streets to park close to the Hume Hotel.
We like to do a workout during our hotel stays, and the Hume Hotel did not have a fitness room.

Nice location. Authentic details in the hotel.
Bar underneath hotel is very noisy in the rooms. Ask for a room that is on the 4th and opposite of the bar.

Beds could have been better.

When the room we were assigned turned out to be a bit noisy (from a nearby compressor), we were upgraded to a very quiet 2-room suite. Very friendly service!
The only slight downside is that there is no dedicated hotel parking. You have to leave your car on the street.
