We only booked this hotel as an overnight rest stop before traveling thru the Park to Clingman's Dome and then to Cherokee and Maggie Valley. It is a great location, near the entrance to Cherokee National Park The bed was comfortable, the roll in Disability Access shower was adequate. The room and bathroom were clean, except....
When preparing to leave, I dropped my ring. It rolled under the bed, but it didn't go far. It was stopped by a 1/4" or more layer of dust and trash under the entire floor under the bed. Just for grins, I checked behind some of the other furniture. Same issue. On the bright side, I didn't see any bugs. I read the reviews, many noting the cleanliness., but most were older reviews. Apparently, the Management hasn't got the message. Maybe things will change. The rating is a 5 of 10, not 5 of 5.

Continental breakfast was better than advertised. There were hot options! Rooms were clean and updated. The location was great as we could walk anywhere in Gatlinburg, practically.
Hallways and common areas were very outdated, which made us a little nervous for our room. Hot tub was roped off with caution tape and automatic sliding door to enter pool area was broken. We had to force it open (no sign for either). Unable to connect to wifi for the majority of the time we were there. Our shower had 2 temps: ice cold and scalding.

Location was great! Breakfast was good also!
the hotel looks better from the outside, the rooms need more updates. There was only one elevator so there was long waits. The pool was not attached and in the middle of the parking lot.

We really liked that a hot breakfast was included in the price of the room. The breakfast staff was very helpful and friendly. With the inn being in a good location, we were able to walk to several of the attractions we wanted to enjoy. The room was in a quiet area of the inn.
We paid extra so we could have a fireplace but whenever we got there it wouldn't light so we had to wait until the next day for the maintenance man to come light the pilot light. The water from the shower puddles under the sink because the floor is sloped wrong.

location is great. Its in walking distance to almost everything . my daughter loved the breakfast and ate there everyday
I booked 2 rooms. For the hotel to be empty I was surprised that they were on separate floors. Some of the furniture in the common space is outdated and torn.

Everything, especially the sweet staff!

Location! loved being right in the town, could walk everywhere! breakfast was decent, very pretty lobby area. Rooms were clean!
Although, I did not tell the front desk, I had 2 rooms for 3 nights, 1 double suite and 1 king suite. I did not get a double suite, so I slept on the pull out sofa. i made it work. We were also not on the same floor. luckily still not far apart. A little outdated, and odd smell near the elevators. Didn't care for the shower, shower head way to low for tall people

This was my second stay at Black Bear. The first was a stay around Christmastime two years ago with a big family group in one of the penthouse suites. It was nice, if a little basic, but comfortable and fine for the price. The location is great. Parking is no extra charge and easily available. The staff is friendly enough and the breakfast attendant in particular was helpful and kind, but if this were my business, I'd be ashamed of charging people to stay here. If it were listed as two-stars, I would have much less to complain about.
I stayed in one of the basic queen rooms this week, and it was really amazingly terrible. Our room didn't even live up to the standards of a modern budget 2-star room, much less what's supposed to be a 3-star property. And I must have missed the rest of the hotel two years ago, or maybe they stopped maintenance back then, because the rest of the place looks like it's at least two years behind on repairs.
There were broken tiles and wall panels in many visible places in the hotel. The door to our balcony had a broken door frame. The outdoor balcony seats are molded plastic patio seats that would make a roadside motel look cheap. The elevators are old, very slow, and do not inspire confidence. The doors seemed confused about when they should open and close and honestly made me worry about whether they properly worked. The hotel interior damage extends to the elevators as well. At least one of them had significant unrepaired damage that was definitely not fresh.
The rooms are surprisingly dated, with the bare minimum of appliance and amenity functionally. The HVACs are standard in-wall motel units and are pretty noisy. The fridges are at least available and work, but are about the noisiest refrigerators possible, and there's no effort made to put them in cabinets or anything to minimize the noise. The furniture is really basic and old. The carpet was shockingly old, buckled, and had dangerous tacks exposed at the floor seams. I was shocked that the "LCD TV" was a tiny 21" model that was at least five years old and had zero functionality other than a cable input. At least it had an HDMI input so I could plug in a Roku, but then the hotel WiFi was useless too. It was so slow that streaming any useless too. It was so slow that streaming any video was impossible. The bathroom, in contrast to the rest of the room, was alright, but drop ceilings??

The hotel itself was a very convenient location!
I’m unaware how other hotels are in the area as far as the wear and tear goes but the carpets were stained in almost all areas of the hotel. That caught my eye first thing. The rooms were very outdated in my opinion. Other than that we enjoyed our time in Gatlinburg just was not super impressed with our choice in hotel.

Great location
Rooms could use a little updating, but we didn't spend to much time in thw room.

Great customer service
Rooms were small, not as clean as I would expect, broken electric outlet cover, needs weren't comfortable at all.

Location.
It has really gone down hill after changing hands....Over all it was not very clean.
Did not waste my time on the breakfast...

Worst breakfast ever! No attendant on duty to help with meal service? Thinnest towels. No hot water at bathroom sink -- unless it was after a hot shower. Room layout was bad. if sitting at the desk no one else can get by. Ice machine on floor broken. One bed didn't have a comforter on it until we called an asked for a blanket . Then they brought the comforter but no blanket. The room was very humid. Dinky little pillows. After an extremely long day getting to Gatlinburg, checking in wasn't fun since I wanted to change credit cards and had to prove I had the initial card with me. Snippy little clerk! Who cares as long as you are paid?

the room was nice
the hot tub doesn’t work and the breaker was not as it was stated on the website

Location was great for walking around Gatlinburg and we enjoyed the pool for a bit.
Needs updated, the carpets could use a replacement and they were working on the Hot Tub so we didn’t get to use that which is my kids favorite thing to do.
