The location was perfect for exploring. We were on canal boat property. We could walk the towpath to a brand new Tesco superstore. The train was a five-minute walk. Manchester was 30 minutes by train. We were within a half hours drive of some of the best hikes in the high peaks. Whenever we go to the UK we make sure our National Trust membership is up to date but we found the hiking so exhilarating that we only visited one national trust property during our two-week stay. The cottage was cozy, good bath with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Water from the tap was cool and good tasting. Stairs to the bedroom are a bit steep but a good sturdy handrail. The place could use a place to hang clothes and better reading lights as the living area has only one window. We never once turned on the television.

Small but cosy, everything was catered for, just could have done with some hanging space for clothes. Pubs near by and a lovely walk along the canal. Friendly greeting on arrival.

We stayed at the New Barn and we loved every minute. Very welcoming, quiet, relaxing and dog friendly. There is a BBQ area which we used on both nights. If you are looking for a private area just for your family, then this wouldn’t be the best choice as the bbq area is for everyone but we were lucky that we had the area to ourselves. The views are amazing and my 3 year old daughter enjoyed walking and there’s a park, pubs, chippy and local shop nearby. Lyme Park is about 8 minutes away and we went there one day. The barn was spotless and tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and milk were provided which was a lovely touch. Would definitely return! Thanks for an amazing weekend

The Haybarn is a great little property
We were able to stay at really short notice to visit family in the area. We arrived late but everything was set up for us to move in and have that all important cup of tea! It's in the newly developed Marina, really nice and quiet but close to New Mills and easy access for walking in the area. We will definitely be looking to stay again

Lovely place to stay
Thank you for letting my little dog Jack stay at The Haybarn which is near to the town of New Mills (10 minute to walk into town) which has shops, pubs and places to eat . Great views from the property and beside the canal with good walks (despite the bad weather). Accommodation is well kept, clean and has everything you need for your stay. The owners introduced themselves and were available for any concerns (we did not need anything). I would definitely return and recommend this property to my friends and family. I thought the price was really reasonable.

Perfect cottage getaway
Cute little cottage located on a quiet marina. The cottage is a converted haybarn with an open plan living area complete with cosy open fire. The bedroom is situated on a mezzanine floor above the living area. Everything needed was provided and Pete and Heather were fantastic hosts. The cottage is close to a towpath which is great place to spend the day walking or cycling. A short drive away is the Monsal Trail and the town of Bakewell should you wish to venture further a field. In conclusion, we had a fantastic break and wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend to others.

A friendly welcome from our hosts Peter and Heather and lots of useful advice. Closeby is a canal with beautiful barges and wonderful views for miles. The accommodation was clean and warm with a lovely log fire. Our dogs were also made welcome and there is a dedicated area for their toileting. Many local shops and supermarkets and many gastro pubs a short drive away. Highly recommended.

Very hospitable hosts made us feel very welcome and personal touches too, on hand to help out. Cosy, compact but very clean contemporary and warm right on the canal edge. Would highly recommend if needing a place to stay on the edge of the Peak District. Plenty of choices of eateries and places to visit on the doorstep.

Nice cosy cottage by the canal
The cottage is nice and warm once the fire is going, makes it particularly warm upstairs even on a cold Easter weekend. Hayfield is a short drive away, where you can join the Snake Path for a walk around Kinder reservoir.

A very comfortable unique cottage
We have just returned from a short stay in the Haybarn. The experience was good from the start, where we were given a warm welcome by Pete and Heather. The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. Although we didn't need it there was ample heating and a log burner as well. It would make a fantastic place to be in the colder months. It is in a lovely interesting setting with amazing views. I am sure we will return.

Lovely break in a super compact accomodation
We have just returned from a relaxing few days in The Haybarn. We were pleased to see that the description of the accommodation was accurate. It was clean, well maintained and well equipped. New Mills marina is in an attractive location, surrounded by stunning scenery. There is a small caravan site in front the accommodation, but this did not detract from the views or affect the quality of our stay. The Haybarn itself is very well equipped and comfortable for four adults. There is a sofa bed in the lounge and a spacious mezzanine bedroom above with a comfortable double bed. During our stay we were able to view the larger accommodation called The Bike Shed, which sleeps up to 12 adults. The quality of the furnishings in both buildings are of a very good standard.
On our arrival, Heather welcomed us and was very attentive throughout our stay, checking with us daily, to make sure we had everything we needed and that there were no problems. When we had a minor hiccup with the wifi, Peter sorted it out quickly. The area does not have the best wifi signal, but was adequate for our needs. There is plenty to do in the local area, walking along the towpath, visiting the local caves and driving through the High Peaks. If you enjoy walking, you will be spoilt for choice! You can also hire a day boat which is large enough for around 10 people, from Whaley Bridge. There are several pubs in New Mills, our favourites being The Beehive and The Rock which are a short walk away. A very nice place to eat- although a bit pricey, is The Rams Head at Disley. The local fish shop, The Master Fryer, has an extensive takeaway menu. We had fish and chips which were freshly cooked and reasonably priced. There is a train station a few minutes from the marina, where you can visit both Manchester and Buxton. Thanks to Heather and Peter for making our stay most enjoyable. We will definitely return, for a family break to stay in The Bike Shed.

Very welcoming and cosy
Spent 3 nights at the Haybarn, it was very cosy especially with the log burner and candles at night
Pete was very friendly and helpful and it was a pleasure to meet him.
2 x adults, 2x teenagers and 2x dogs and we all fitted in 🐶😂👍.
Teenagers had slight problem with wifi availability, but otherwise everything was fine.
Thank you Pete

Great little cottage
We have just returned from spending 2 nights at New Mills Marina. We stayed in the Haybarn which was a great little cottage that had everything required to be more than comfortable, the kitchen was also very well equipped.
The managers were extremely welcoming and nothing was ever to much hassle, they were very knowledgeable about the local area and recommended some very good pubs and place to eat.
We will definitely be staying here again.

Lovely short break
Stayed at short notice and with a late check in with my partner and our two dogs. We had a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay comfortable. The views of the countryside, the marina and canal were lovely and all local amenities were within walking distance. There were some beautiful walks along the canal and New Mills area taking in the River Goyt and Torrs. The cottage was well equipt and with clean kitchen and bathroom facilities that we could not fault. Don't be put off by the caravans nor marina as there was no mither at all. However if you are expecting to be close to Buxton then you may be disappointed as you are a good 15-20 minute drive away but this was a nice surprise to us as we had no need to travel until it was time to leave. Thank you for a lovely couple of days and would visit again.

Lovely compact cottage
This is a lovely compact cottage on the canal side. All the facilities in the cottage are as described, the shower was particularly powerful with masses of hot water. The reason for the reduced star rating is that nowhere on the details does it state that the cottage is part of a small caravan park. The shower and toilet blocks are attached to the cottage. On two of our 4 nights there were five caravans in situ - the maximum allowed meaning that there was a van parked broadside to the cottage a cars length away, giving us and them little or no privacy. There are no blinds on two of the windows, an issue in the bedroom trying to sleep with an uncovered window and with none in the kitchen we could not have any privacy in the open plan living area. The onsite manager was helpful with information, fire wood etc. but could do nothing about the caravan parking or the intrusion of the caravan owners into the private area beside the cottage
front door. Would I recommend to a friend, probably but only if they were aware of the possibility of losing the view and the closeness of the vans. Also be aware, although you are on the canal side, the tow path is on the other side of the canal, out of the marina, along a fairly busy road and then a path through housing to the tow path, beautiful walks in both directions once you get there.

WHAT A LITTLE GEM!
Decided last minute on booking a weekend away and fell upon this property and so glad I did. Jenny made the booking so easy and Dave the manager could not have been more helpful whilst we stayed there for the 2 nights. The property is lovely and cosy, very well equiped and reformed to a a very high standard. The only thing it hadn't got were tall glasses for a G&T!...... Will definately be returning as love the area for walking the dog and generally chilling out!
