About this cabin rental
Hi and welcome to The Little Gray Cabin!
We're very glad you'll soon be arriving, and we are very humbled you've chosen our family home to create some fabulous Lake Tahoe memories!
Now for the arrival and departure stuff.
ARRIVAL:
A lock box behind the silver bucket on the front porch adjacent to the front door holds the key. The combination is XXXX
WINTER-SEASON WATER DETAILS:
The cold temperatures during the winter require the water to be turned on upon arrival and turned off upon departure.
This is accomplished with a quick turn of a floor-mounted handled underneath the kitchen dining booth. It takes just a quarter turn of the handle. When the water is on you will hear the pipes activate and water will begin immediately flowing from the faucets.
HEATING :
The thermostat is mounted on the short stairwell wall adjacent to the TV. This controls the gas floor furnace in the entry. Please make yourself comfortable and thank you for turning the heat down when outside enjoying the beautiful surroundings. It's very helpful to simultaneously turn on the ceiling fan. The heat (that has a tendency to rise up into the loft) is pulled down and better circulates in the downstairs area. The control knob for the fan is next to the wall-mounted coat rack.
Additionally, there are two heater fans that also pull down and circulate heat into the downstairs bedroom and kitchen. One knob is on the wall to the right side of the refrigerator. One knob is on the wall to the right side of the washer/dryer closet.
During Winter it's also helpful to keep the bathroom door closed and keep the bedroom door open for circulation benefits.
Please ignore BOTH the thermostat in the downstairs bedroom by the small, iron coat rack AND the small wall-mounted heater below the bedroom window. These have been deactivated for safety reasons.
If the wood burning stove is used please DO NOT clean out hot ashes. Housekeeping will handle.
VERY IMPORTANT....DO NOT LEAVE ANY CLOTHING, FOOTWEAR OR TOWELS NEARTHE FLOOR FURNACE. IF SOMETHING FALLS AND IS UNATTENDED A FIRE IS A SURE BET. PLEASE ALSO KEEP LITTLE BARE FEET AWAY FROM THE FLOOR FURNACE GRILL :)
OTHER STUFF
Backing into the driveway is easier and safer when exiting. A private plow service routinely and automatically services the driveway. The County maintains neighborhood streets.
The snow shovel can be used for any small berms needing removal. A small canister of "ice melt" is also available and can be sprinkled by hand like birdseed on the front door path if snow is anticipated or snow is actually coming down to help with slipping or sliding.
SEASONAL THINGS TO DO:
MOVIES AND FUN
Theatres in Incline, Tahoe City (Cobblestone) and Northstar Village.
Might want to take a drive to the Northstar Village...kind of like a little Aspen. Shops, bars, skating rink. If you're up for a drive to Squaw Valley the day could be incredible. Take the gondola to the top of the mountain and have lunch while watching folks ice skate. It's like being in Austria up there.
King' Beach...Mini golf, beaches, golf, watersports +++
Incline... Bowling, golf, pool tables, beaches, Diamond Peak Ski Resort
Carnelian Bay...Mini-golf, beaches, SUP i
Northstar...skiing, Northstar Village shopping and dining, golf
WINTER:
Cross-Country, Hiking, Snow Shoeing Trails and Sledding Hill...
There is a great hiking/snow shoe trail you can get to without a car.
Go out the front door and turn right when at the top of the driveway. Go right at the first street. It's called Pino. This street dead ends in an approximate length equaling a city block or two. You'll see a small frozen creek. On the other side of this creek you'll see a trail that goes back up into the mountain. Very nice trail only used by locals.
There is also a formal trail at the North Tahoe Regional Park. This too is very close but requires a short car drive. Here you can find hiking trails and a fun sledding hill.
Go back out on to the main lake road.
Go right at the lake.
Take the second right on to National Ave.
At the end of this road you'll see the park entrance.
Nearby Ski Resorts Include: Northstar, Incline and Mt. Rose
RESTAURANTS
Jason's...Casual American Fare with nice outdoor dining area in King's Beach. Kid's menu, too.
Steamers...Casual pizza, salads and sandwiches...indoor and outdoor seating in King's Beach.
Spindelshank's...on the Brockway golf course in King's Beach.
Las Panchitas...casual Mexican food in King's Beach.
Char-Pit...Iconic burgers, fries and soft serve
The Eagle Grill in Incline...super nice yet comfortable. Great for a special meal or just cocktails and appetizers on the stone patio overlooking the beach and lake.
The Burrito Window...Funky little cafe serving an abbreviated menu of Mexican classics & kids' portions from a counter.

This is one of our favorite places period. The cottage is clean, warm, and cozy. We love using this as home base when we come to Tahoe to ski. The kitchen has everything you need to fix a big meal and we love having laundry facilities so that we can thrown in a load when we come home from skiing.

The cabin was absolutely perfect for us. My family and I enjoyed staying here. It was super clean and it had everything we needed. Plenty of beds and even some board games that we had fun playing. The host was really nice and helpful. The beach is only about 5 mins away walking which was awesome. Thank you!

My daughters, friend, and I had an amazing Girls' Weekend. The cabin is adorable and provided the perfect setting for all of us to catch up and relax. We enjoyed a hike right from the cabin and were only minutes from Kings Beach and restaurants. I can't wait to stay again!

What a great ski getaway for our family. The cottage was a close drive to both Diamond Peak and Homewood. After a day of skiing, we enjoyed making a hearty meal in the well-equipped kitchen and spending the evening watching shows and playing games.
The cottage is super clean and we loved the decor! Communicating with the owner was easy and quick. We would definitely come back again!

Great Tahoe Getaway!
What a wonderful cabin! Great place to getaway for a weekend or a week! Cute cozy and close enough to everything and far enough away at the same time. All the personal touches in the cabin are great! Highly recommend!

Cozy cabin with all the essentials
Neighborhood is convenient for a short ride to grocery and kings beach and nice to have the option for a walking trail right in the neighborhood. Bed downstairs is soft and the room is tight squeeze, but the property is spacious and the house has everything you need for the cooking. Kelly and cleaning crew are very attentive and were a great help when I forgot some of my stuff there after my check out!

Cute small cabin, unsure about cleaniness
It was in a nice location, however the closest beach isn't just steps, it is about two to three blocks away. We stayed there for three nights but we saw mice at least 5 times, and saw four potential nests. I know that Kelly brings in a housecleaner but I'm not entirely sure how thorough the cleaner is. Two of the people who went has asthma and it flared up while in this cabin. Definitely a cabin to just sleep in if you have breathing issues. Also unsure if I would want a baby/toddler to crawl on the 1st floor. Take the bear warnings seriously!!!! Read all of the signs listed inside the property about bears.
Definitely was a cute little cabin, Kelly has game boards and a dart board set up. Overall, it was a nice trip. Just the kids were scared to sleep knowing there were mice.

Perfect North Shore Stay
Perfect spot for two long time girlfriends to have a get away weekend. Could have easily had another 2 friends stay with us. We enjoyed walking to a trail just down the street, driving a few minutes to Incline Village for a spectacular hike overlooking the lake, burgers and beers in King’s Beach and walking on the beach. Loved the retro vibe of the cabin decor. We cooked dinner and breakfast every day and found the kitchen had everything we needed. All the comforts of home are here…Plenty of blankets and towels, comfy beds, furnace that heats up quickly, and a nice hot shower. We would stay here again!

Absolutely beautiful and perfect host
Kelli is such a sweet host and made herself available even when we couldn't find the house. She let us facetime her to help us. I would 100% recommend this host and home for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Thank you again Kelli :)

Love this place!!!
This was hands down my favorite vrbo that I have stayed. The location was perfect and it had such amazing character! We had plenty of room for our family of four. We enjoyed the back patio so much that we ate in every night. Can't wait for our next visit to Tahoe and can't imagine staying any where else now.

Perfect location
The location is great. Minutes from the beach, national park, hiking trails, Northstar Resort, sledding hills, etc. Having a legit woodstove fire was definitely one of the highlights of the place. Communication with Kelly was very responsive. We recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice getaway.

Just what we needed!
Super sweet cabin...perfect for the two of us. Kelly was easy to communicate with and responsive to our needs. The cabin is cozy and works well for a couple or a small family- there is an upstairs that has 3 additional beds (I believe), but we just needed the downstairs space. The location was perfect for our needs- easy 15 min or so to Homewood and a short walk to the lake. There is also a nice hiking area in the neighborhood, as well. Highly recommended as long as you don't mind getting cozy with your partner in a double bed.

A Charming Getaway
We had an incredible stay at Kelly's cabin in Tahoe Vista. It's the perfect spot for a quiet, relaxing getaway. The cabin was perfect for two (plenty spacious) - with great amenities (games, movies, cooking supplies, etc). The location was hard to beat. It's just a short walk to the lake and very close to downtown - while also feeling plenty remote. We fell in love with the cabin and can't wait to come back soon!

Great place to stay in North Lake Tahoe!
The property was great for my wife and I on our 5th wedding anniversary. Everything was clean and well maintained. The property manager was super responsive and gave us a lot of helpful suggestions on where to go. The location was excellent but a little hard to find due to Apple Maps and Google maps not giving accurate directions but we figured it out. Great place to stay if you want to get away!

Soo Cute, great location, steep stairs tho
Beautifully decorated, great location, clean and adorable. Just a few things to note - the stairs are steep and slick wood, just step carefully; and all the beds except one of the twins are on the harder side and creak when you move on them, but we do prefer softer beds.

Terrific Place to Stay in Tahoe
The cabin was in a great location and had everything needed for a very comfortable short or even longer stay. Would absolutely love to return here on our next trip to Tahoe!

Clean, quiet, lovely, traditional Tahoe cabin.
What a lovely find in Tahoe National Forest. We had a great, quiet respite in this well appointed, and comforting cabin. Decorated true to the Tahoe cabin era, with contemporary comforts. A walk away from lake, but removed from hustle and bustle of other visitors. Owner Kelly was accommodating and helpful when needed. As I have some special mobility needs, I found navigating the cabin, and outdoors very easy.
We will definitely fine ourselves returning to the cabin, thank you to owners.

What a cabin should be!
My wife and I spent a long weekend here. It was her first trip to the Tahoe area and really wanted a mountain cabin experience. The cabin is wonderful. Wood burning stove, cozy kitchen with everything you need. The lake just across the street and wonderful hiking out the door. Kelly was great and provided wonderful insider advice on dining and the area. Will be coming back soon we hope.

Awesome little hideaway!
Great little place to relax and enjoy some cooler weather. Great deck in the back and easy walk to the lake and store. Very clean and well stocked. The owner is easy to communicate with and easy to deal with. We will be back for sure.

True Tahoe Experience
We thoroughly enjoyed our six days in this quaint, old Tahoe cabin. The owner had it well equipped and clean, and it is close to a nice beach. The cabin is located in a quiet section of Tahoe Vista which made it very peaceful sitting on the back porch enjoying the privacy (and eating some meals) and for taking walks. The bedroom and bathroom are small, but to us that just added to the charm. The owner was very easy to work with and quickly ansered all our questions. It is close to the Safeway and restaurants.

Great Place
This place was great! Clean, cozy, relaxing, quiet neighborhood, close to the water, but far away enough from the road to make it a quiet getaway. The house has anything that you would need or require. It's just a fantastic place in a good North Lake location.

Cute, Clean, Relaxing Getaway Cabin - What All VRBO Places & Interactions Should Aspire To
My wife and I were seeking a quite, non-fussy getaway from the grind of Southern California in July 2011 and had never used VRBO before. As this was our first trip to Tahoe, we didn't know what to expect, but this place was exactly what we were hoping for (and more). Extremely clean, well kept up, relaxing, and convenient---almost like you were staying in your aunt/uncle's vacation cabin!
Much to our relaxing satisfaction, the communication between us and the owners was not only reliable, but the authentic excitement that the owners exuded in dialogue with us about getting to enjoy their vacation cabin just enhanced our anticipation to arrive.
About the cabin: The best word we have to use is "cozy". For some, that might mean small and unimpressive. But, it was plenty big for the two of us, creatively decorated, with much money put into the upkeep/modernization. The loft upstairs is creatively configured to host 3 beds, but not much more. We could see ourselves returning someday with our two girls. The downstairs bedroom is extremely small (think of the double bed you squeeze into when sleeping in a RV), but the bed was very comfortable. The square footage is mainly in the large living room. Very comfortable couch, big windows, large table, and kitchen seating nook. Loved the farmhouse sink.
Amenities? Well, for those hoping to replicate your home entertainment system, don't expect much (which was fine for us because we read 5 books between the two of us while we were there). A tiny television (with cable) downstairs with a DVD player and PlayStation 2 is about all that is available. We checked out two movies from the Blockbuster Express (like Redbox) rental at Safeway and watched those but couldn't read any subtitles. There is another TV and DVD players upstairs. We have Sprint cell phone service and got 1-2 bars throughout the week-long stay and were happy with that. Can't forget the convenient washer/dryer, wonderful deck, hammock in the shade, and available beach chairs/umbrellas/mats. Plenty of parking and shade.
Location? No lake view (but not by much). About a 1-2 minute walk to the main street and then Moon Dune beach is literally right on the other side of that street. We walked about 10-15 minutes into Kings Beach area (Safeway with Starbucks inside) and went all around town one afternoon & then walked back.
We HIGHLY recommend this place and hope that others can enjoy it in summer OR winter. We've already recommended it to our friends!

Perfect!
Ok, this place was absolutely perfect. Between the adorable old tahoe feel, cleanliness and ideal location we couldn't have asked for more. Sitting on the deck and soaking up the morning sun was so relaxing. The cabin is on a larger parcel and looks at wide open spaces. Even better we just walked a few yards to the beach. We also walked into King's Beach for a stroll through town and one evening walked to the Wild Goose (maybe a 100 yards away) for a gourmet dinner. We'll absolutely go back and refer to others.
