About this cottage rental
Recently chosen as a shoot location for a French style home accessories on-line store, The Gables is a lovingly restored 2 bedroomed cottage situated on the outskirts of the delightful village of Shepley in West Yorkshire, very conveniently placed to discover the delights of the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District and the Pennine Hills. The cottage is approximately 3 miles from Holmfirth, the location for the long running television series, the Last of the Summer Wine, in the heart of the stunning Holme Valley. A short drive takes you to the pretty village of Cawthorne where the ever popular Cannon Hall Farm is filmed. Shibden Hall, Halifax, the location for Gentleman Jack, is a very pleasant drive whilst visiting West Yorkshire, as is the Yorkshire Sculpture Park .
There is a warm, welcoming country pub/restaurant and very well stocked supermarket (open 24 x 7) approx. 5 mins. walk away, where smokeless fuel for the stove is readily available.
Dating back to the early 1700's, The Gables was once the village store and, although we have renovated it to a very high standard, care has been taken to preserve and enhance all of its original features throughout, such as the four fireplaces, beams and quirky shaped rooms, whilst also being brought up to date with earthy/neutral tones throughout, to create a special haven of tranquillity and charm.
The fully centrally heated cottage comprises of a country style kitchen with range cooker, combination microwave, fridge and washing machine. The separate dining room with multi fuel burner, has a pitch pine dining table and chairs for 4 people plus a 2 seater Chesterfield settee. Tucked away in the pantry is a large fridge freezer. The separate lounge has a further fireplace with stove effect gas fire, a sumptuous 4 seater leather Chesterfield settee, an armchair plus a large coffee table, Smart TV and DVD player. The master bedroom has a King size bed, 2 chests of drawers and a large double wardrobe. The second bedroom has 2 single beds, 2 bedside cabinets with drawers, a chest of drawers plus a built in cupboard. There is a further chest of drawers on the landing for additional storage. The 2 bedrooms share the stunning vintage style bathroom which has a rolltop bath and separate shower cubicle, The French style cabinet and crystal chandeliers add to the charm of this lovely room.
We supply bed linen, towels, a hairdryer and ironing facilities.
Quality furniture and soft furnishings are provided throughout the cottage and enhance the charm and ambiance.
Free WiFI and Superfast Broadband is available to our guests and we provide a quite substantial book library and a compendium of games for your added enjoyment.
Externally, there is an enclosed lawned garden to the front and a small courtyard to the rear. There is ample parking on the lane next to the entrance to the cottage.
Please note that the cottage is strictly non smoking. It is fully equipped with smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarm, a fire blanket and fire extinguisher, for your total peace of mind.

Cottage is lovely and spacious with everything you need for a short break. Food at The Sovereign Inn was lovely too.
Located on a busy road which had some traffic noise. Lovely outside space at the rear of the property for coffee and breakfast.

Our experience was really seemless. We had email contact with the property owner and managers that made check in and out easy. The space was quiet, clean, and perfectly met our needs.
Should we have reason to be in Shepley in the future (we are from America) I would look to book this property again.

Lovely house
We had a great time in Yorkshire. The house was lovely, very clean, well decorated, excellent shower and very homely. The local pub was nice which we went to a couple of times. We also visited Holmfirth, Haworth (Bronte house), Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Chatsworth House and Manchester. In between all the visits we had a very relaxing time in the house. Would recommend. Thanks to Andrea..

Spacious well furnished, with large bath and powerful shower. Sunny back and front gardens. Washing machine but no dishwasher. Some road noise. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and a great base for the Peak District .

Lovely place and great location for seeing the area
Owner was very responsive to pre holiday queries and asking recommendations. A lovely spacious house. Loved the real fire. Comfy beds and beautiful bathroom. Good location for walking to the local pub or driving to other locations for walking.

Last minute family holiday
Although a rushed last minute booking, we couldn’t have been happier with our accommodation. This cosy comfortable cottage had the standard decoration of a luxury hotel with great heating, cooking facilities and gas and open fires. The beds were so comfortable as well. Lots of scenery to enjoy and easy communication with owners who also left recommendations of day trips and walks. We thoroughly recommend this property and would love to go back.

Cosy Cottage
The cottage is nicely presented with high standard fixtures and fittings. This two bedroomed cottage was more than big enough for a family of four with teenagers. Parking on the roadisde next to the cottage was never an issue with only a couple of neighbours using the same part of the road. Its positioned on the outskirts of the village within walking distance of a Garage/shop and also the main village with shop is a short drive or longer (but not too far) walk away. The village has a small train station that will allow travel to nearby towns/villages too. There are good information leaflets held at the cottage as well as good comms from the owners. Thank you for welcoming us to your letting.

An superb property.
I chose the cottage as the base for a family get together.
The property is beautiful, inside and out.
All creature comforts are supplied.
The location is also great, Leeds for retail, The Sovereign pub for food and drinks, even a Coop within walking distance.
Best of all are the landscapes and the walks.
Great welcome pack as well.
We will definitely return.
Thank you.

Most enjoyable
We Spent a long weekend at the Gables cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is lovely and there was plenty of room. The kitchen was well equipped and it is very useful having two fridges. The owners were very accommodating, and supportive towards our needs. We were lucky to have sunshine and were able to take advantage of sitting outside. We had a meal at the sovereign which is in walking distance. We received excellent service and food and wouldn’t hesitate in returning. It is a beautiful area with plenty to see and do, for all age groups. We will book the cottage again on our next visit to the area.

Beautiful Cottage
Really lovely cottage that was perfect for the 4 of us. Lots of places to explore a car drive away.
The cottage was well equipped and the welcome hamper was perfect. Steve and Christine were very understanding when our arrival time was an hour later than originally planned due to poor weather conditions.
We would stay again as we all loved the cottage.

Very good
The cottage is beautifully remodeled. All the finish work and fixtures are very high quality. The central heating worked well and the gas fireplace made the living room very cozy. The owner provided all the basics, so we didn't need to go out and buy cleaning supplies or other essentials. They even provided some complimentary food so we could have a basic breakfast in the morning. The location was convenient for visiting family located in Holmfirth and Wakefield. We found a lovely bakery and coffee shop in Denby Dale.
Our only negative relates to HomeAway services. We found communicating with the owner tedious through their website (having to login and use a password each time). Some, of the information was blanked out, such as a phone number for text messaging. I also didn't appreciate all the junk emails from HomeAway advertising their services. I probably won't use this service again.
The above does not reflect negatively on the property - it was great!!

Feeling like "home"
We spent 12 days with two children in this Cottage, which is really lovely and we felt like home. The owner Andrea supported us with recommendations for our first trip to the UK.
The cottage is an excellent starting point for trips to the Sightseeing Points. We visited Whitby, Goathland Train Station (Harry Potter!), Lincoln, Cannon Hall, Holmsfirth, the royal armouries museum in Leeds, harewood house with steam fair and chatsworth house. Every day was different, the children had much fun and we had very good diners at “Butchers´ Arms”, the “Sovereign” and the “Red lion”.

Fantastic stay in a beautiful cottage.
My wife and I came to stay in the cottage for a weekend whilst att being a wedding function in the area. We had such an amazing weekend and loved staying in the wonderful cottage.
The cottage was decorated and finished to an extremely high standard, mixing traditional original features with modern day luxuries.
The property was impeccably clean and extremely well maintained. The outside courtyard was a lovely area, particular in the evening when the fairy lights came on.
We were greeted by Steven and his wife who were so warming and welcoming. They gave us a tour of the cottage and organised a 'welcome pack' of bread, milk, orange juice, biscuits etc. This was a lovely touch.
If you are looking for a relaxing weekend to chill in beautiful surroundings, this cottage is perfect. The bathroom in particular was wonderful.
We will definitely be recommending this place to family and friends and are looking forward to visiting again and will hopefully utilise the large open fire.
Fantastic weekend - thank you!

Excellently decorated and presented cottage
Beautifully decorated and presented cottage on a good location for the Holmfirth area and the northern Peak District. As we had a baby with us the owners were particularly thoughtful with their Welcome Pack and their thoughtfulness was outstanding. We will visit again and would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in this area of Yorkshire.

We would love to stay again.
We received a very warm welcome from Steve and Christine and the generous welcome gift contained both essentials and some greatly appreciated luxuries. The house is beautiful, highly maintained and immaculate, and it was a lot more spacious than we had expected. The beds and pillows are so comfortable and the towels are thick and fluffy, not something you usually find in a holiday let (from our experience anyway). We definitely got the impression that the owners put a lot of thought and consideration into making our stay as enjoyable as possible.
We had a lovely day out exploring Holmfirth, we visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Hepworth Museum, both of which are definitely worth a visit; and the kids really enjoyed Diggerland, not to mention my husband! The Bronte Parsonage in Haworth is also worth a visit and it is located in such a pretty village with fabulous places to eat, although we didn’t have time to visit this time. This is such beautiful part of the country (our ten year old wished she had brought her paints). We ate at The Butcher’s Arms, Hepworth and Aagrah,Wakefield, in both places we had fabulous food and the staff were really friendly. The food at Diggerland was very basic.
Andrea, the owner is lovely and was very helpful.
We would definitely recommend The Gables and would love to stay again.

Weekend stay
House was excellent. Standard of decoration was very high. The house had everything we needed (3 adults for a weekend, but would have been just as good for 4). Owners were really helpful with information, responded quickly to our questions. Lovely place to stay if you want to combine Sheffield and country walks and activities. As new users we found the Owners Direct booking system a little confusing and the owners were extremely patient as we booked at the last minute. Tour de Yorkshire was an added bonus!
