The Rockcairn offers guests a themed 4 bedroom house inspired by our favorite places in Acadia National Park. Upon arrival, claim the "Hunters Beach " room if you love the coast. The property gets it's name from the sculptural rock formations only found on Mount Desert Island, and the Scottish Gaelic word "cairn" which is a pile of stones used as landmarks to guide travelers. Cairns are used throughout the rocky alpine areas in Acadia. Let The Rockcairn be your home base as you create your own memories while traveling to one of the most unforgettable landscapes on the planet. The host Sherri, was extremely responsive to all my questions! She went above and beyond to provide areas of interest for our family to visit! The location of the house was perfect for walking to Main Street and entering Acadia National Park! I would rent this house again!

Everything was amazing about this property and our stay. Sherri was fantastic and spent a great deal of time communicating with me about what to do on our first visit to Maine. The house is just perfect. Everything was exactly as the listing stated. The restaurants and shops are just a couple of minutes walking away and the park entrance is about a 5 min drive. Can’t wait to come back!

This was the perfect home base for our trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP with our 3 kids - ages 22, 19, and 17. Plenty of space and the accommodations made it a cozy retreat after a full day of hiking, biking, or just walking around downtown - and the house is only 2 blocks from Main St. Bonus! Ed and Sherri were attentive and easy to work with. Hoping to make it back sooner rather than later. Thanks for a beautiful home for our vacation.

We had a lovely week in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Sherri and Ed were wonderful hosts - take them up on whatever suggestions they have for hikes or sightseeing. The house is comfortable, spacious and comes with everything you need and then some, including lovely porch boxes of herbs for cooking and Tupperware for leftovers.
The location is a quick walk (maybe 3-5 minutes) into town and an easy drive to the park. We did not use the Island Explorer as much as we thought, but when we did it was easy on-and-off. It's also a quiet location and we lucked out with great Maine sleeping weather!
I hope we can return - we really had a great time!

Sherri’s place was exactly what we were looking for. It had plenty of room for our group of seven (5 adults and 2 kids) and had a great location. We were able to easily access Acadia and were within walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor. The kids were overjoyed with the third floor, which had a bedroom and sitting room completely to themselves. There was also a playground at the end of the street that we utilized when the kids needed to run out a bit of energy. Sherri was a great host, checking in via text a few times during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We had a nice visit. House was clean. Located a short walk from downtown which was helpful. Host(s) were responsive to several questions that I had. Check out list was laminated and available in kitchen for easy reference.
It is an older home typical of the area. Creaky stairs and creaky bedroom doors means you hear your family members all the time, Second and third floors were hot when we arrived and the bedroom air conditioning units were not installed yet. Hosts helped us navigate that issue. Older kitchen cabinets and countertops; kitchen utensils and cookware stored fairly haphazard and not all matching. There was some hair in the bathroom sink and something dark and mysterious on the rug in front of the toilet upon arrival.
We stayed in a brand new condo last year. That was a five star. It met or exceeded all expectations. This place is really good but doesn’t WOW like a five star overall rating should. Yes we’d stay here again, but with correct expectations.
I can’t give it a five star overall based on the above and wanted to explain my reasoning. Nothing wrong with this solid location; it just doesn’t wow like a five star should.

Best trip to Bar Harbor so far! The property was perfect and very well located. We had a little trouble with the check in process because we did not had access to a working phone/internet while on our way to the property but everything went smoothly after that. Sherri was very proactive to make our trip go well!

Great house a few blocks from downtown Bar Harbor ME.
Comfy living and dining areas, nice size kitchen and two big bathrooms. Four bedrooms which perfectly accommodated our party of four adults and three kids. Bonus, the owner supplied us with soap, shampoo, paper towels, etc. as well as sheets and towels. And a full size washer and dryer.

House was very comfortable and very clean. We only had a group of four, but you could easily have a much larger party. The proximity to walking into town was great. Sherri was a great host, very responsive to answering questions leading up to our trip and touched base the day after we checked in. I would highly recommend staying here!!

Beautiful home with all the amenities and super comfortable beds. Right near the downtown, but far enough away to avoid traffic and parking issues. Host was incredibly helpful. Would absolutely recommend and we’ll be back to visit again.

The Carin House was a perfect home base for us. A lovely, quiet neighborhood very close to restaurants and bars and easy driving distance to adventures all over Mount Desert Island.

Easy to get to downtown bar harbor, short walk to island explorer shuttles, and short drives to most of the Acadia trails and sights. Listing was as described, a great old house, well stocked with supplies. One thing to add for those bringing dogs is the driveway area has a fence that can be closed if there is up to one car parked. Would stay again if we get back to the area!

This home was perfect for our girls weekend! Plenty of beds and room for all of our luggage. We were able to walk to most of the activities we had planned and all the shops/bars/restaurants.
Very easy to communicate with Sherri - she gave us everything we needed!

Excellent stay and very walkable to a lot of the town. Having space to park was very appreciated as well. Getting up to the 3rd floor was a little tricky due to the stairway being one of the tightest I've ever seen, but other than that no complaints or issues.

We decided on a Sunday to go to Acadia when our other plans fell through and left on Tuesday. This was one of the best un-itinerized trips we have ever taken! Communication with Sherry and Ed was quick and helpful. House was adorable and way bigger than we needed, but location was ideal for everything we wanted to do. We could hike trails all day, come home and clean up a bit and walk to town in minutes. Ed gave us fantastic information about places we might otherwise not have known about- like the off leash dog park near Seal Harbor. This home had a fully furnished kitchen that we really didn’t use but would have been perfect if other family with with us. The neighborhood is quiet and a block away from a large park and ball field. Restaurants can be found within a couple of blocks as well. Acadia and Bar Harbor are incredible and I would recommend the off season like we lucked out with!

Cottage was comfortable, attractively appointed & well supplied. Short walk to Main Street. Short drive to Hanneford's grocery. Close to Acadia Entry. Exactly met my Bar Harbor rental expectations. Entry code system is rather confusing, but otherwise it was perfect.

Convenient location to town and Acadia
We had a great week in Bar Harbor! The house was very convenient to town. We walked back and forth a few times each day, and it was easy and great to not have to worry about parking. It was also a short walk to the shore path, and a short drive into Acadia. The pictures are very accurate- the kitchen could use some updating, but that was no surprise and was evident from the pictures. We recommend fish tacos from Paddy’s, Side Street Cafe, Mt. Desert Island Ice Cream, and Blaze…all walking distance from the house. As for Acadia, Cadillac is a must, Gorham Mountain trail was a favorite hike for us and our kids (5, 9, and 11), and Jordan Pond was a highlight. The kids loved their boat ride with Diver Ed as well.

Amazing place to stay!
Really enjoyed this house! Great location and easy walk in to town. Our boys loved the treehouse/beehive on upper level! Everything was there that we needed! Great communication and tips from owners. We will definitely be back in the future! Bar Harbor was a great place to vacation!

Girls Trip
The property looks as pictured and described, We used the 3 bedrooms on the second floor. They were all clean and comfortable. We had a good week. The home owner is very responsive and friendly. The only comments would be that that the yard could be better kept, and the parking is extremely tight, we were in a Highlander and it was nail biting to park each time. If all the clutter in the yard were removed, the parking could be much better. Thank you for a great week.

Dream getaway
My parents and I came up here with our Airedale terrier because Bar Harbor and Acadia National park is so pet friendly and we love taking vacations that include our dog. This home was wonderful. Very clean, comfortable, and excellent location to walk right into town. Just a couple blocks (maybe like 10mins max before you’re in the town center) it was great. 20mins drive to all major locations in the park. Really was a wonderful experience. Sherri was friendly and courteous and easily accessible if needed. Check in and check out process was smooth. We would stay here again! Thank you again Sherri!!

Great location and spacious house
We loved our stay at the Rockcairn in Bar Harbor. The host is very responsive and helpful. The house was spacious and clean. We had a lot of room for our family. You can walk to all restaurants and shops. Acadia park is a short drive to all the best hikes! We came in early May before the park and town are crowded and it was perfect. Thanks again!
