Our stay at Mustafa’s beautiful Kasbah was the highlight of our 10 days in Morocco and one of the most special travel experiences of our lives. The luxury riads we stayed in elsewhere were beautiful, but nothing compares to the authentic Moroccan experience of the historic village of Tamnougalt, the warmth of Mustafa’s hospitality and the breathtaking views. Book the family room for its beautiful private balcony. We spent hours there enjoying the serenity and stunning views while sipping Moroccan tea. Wonder through the palm groves at sunset, enjoy Mustafa’s delicious dinner, and ask one of the locals to take you on a tour of Tamnougalt. Also worth mentioning is that the rooms have air conditioners! Everything is very comfortable and clean.

We were recommended by friends to stay at Kasbah Maktob Tamnougalt and the experience exceeded our expectations. The place is very autentic, peaceful and with a great view over the green gardens. Mustapha is extremly nice host and he even upgraded our room and provided us with a delicious dinner. We took a very interesting walking tour to learn more about the village and the culture. Recommended!

Kasbah Maktob it one of the best place we staid in Marocco, the house itself it's a jewel that is crafted in the details by his host (and artist) Mustafa.
The view on the valley is restoring and the surrounding is stunning .The ancient Kasbah, which the hotel is part of, definitely worth a visit and a walk through. We found the location ideal to visit the Draa valley and Mustafa simply a great host who takes the time to introduce to his culture and makes you feel welcoming (also easy to communicate with in English)
Honestly if you have the chance book this place it would add memories and value to your journey!

Beautiful hotel, stunning, serene location. Very traditional beber style building and decor, but no sacrifice on comfort or on quality of bathrooms and WiFi. The guy that owns it is incrediably welcoming and the breakfast and finner were delicious.
Nothing whatsoever.

the architecture and the interior of the Kasbah ist absolutley extraordinary. Mustafa the owner is so gifted renovating this Kasbah. we travelled a lot, always Looking for good architecture. This Kasbah is one of the best. it is very peaceful, you hear the birds in the palmtrees. There are two phantastic terraces looking out to the palmtrees. Mustafa cooked for is in the evenning. it was very good. We also Loved the breakfast. We walked around in the village. People are very friendly. Our favourite Place in Marokko.

Splendid location on the fringe of the old fortified village overlooking the palmeria that runs down the valley to the desert and with views of mountains from the terraces. Breakfast and dinner is plentiful and of very high quality. The Kasbah is decorated with beautiful and esoteric Berber antiques and carpets and extremely comfortable. Above all though Mustapha is an experienced, knowledgable, talented and very caring host. He cycled out to help us navigate the alleys to the front door on arrival, prepared delightful meals and was there for us as a friend during a medical crisis. If you do one thing in this area, stay with Mustapha. In fact, make a big detour on your travels to stay with Mustapha.

The man who runs this place is amazing. In a monthlong stay in Morocco this was my favorite place. He transformed this part of the kasbah into a beautiful play to sojourn. He is charming and works very hard doing everything himself. He cooked us a lovely dinner and then played music for us. He also got us a guide to see the kasbah for a very reasonable price.
It was a bit cold in our room, but it was worth it to stay there.

Staying at Mustafa's was our favourite experience during our road trip to Morocco. This unique place radiates relaxation, hospitality and warmth. Mustafa prepared a great meal for us and made us feel at home in every way. Can't wait to come back!

An amazing stay in an amazing location!
The renovated kasbah is a true jewel, from the terrace overlooking the valley to the room.
Mustafa is a great host and a fine chef. You will enjoy a delicious local dinner and learn everything you want to know about Morocco!:)

What an incredible place this is! Starting with the owner and host Mustafa who built and runs the place, he is an amazing host - very attentive, funny, a great chef and even a musician! He was always there when we needed anything without being intrusive.
The Kasbah itself was unbelievable, set amongst the abandoned buildings of a little ancient village in the oasis with palm trees surrounding it. Feels like you're on a movie set! Inside Mustafa has personally decorated it in the traditional Berber style and it looks incredible throughout, especially the room. There is a patio area to eat breakfast and dinner at in the sun overlooking the oasis, and a roof terrace to enjoy the sunset. There are loads of areas inside to chill.
The bed was comfy and the bathroom is spacious with a hot shower. There is also good WiFi and electricity sockets inside and out.
Couldn't recommend this place enough as an ultimate relaxation stay. You can wander around the oasis from the front door and it feels like a private garden. We didn't leave the area at all for 2 days, but there is another restaurant a short walk away and it's a short drive to the nearest main town (Agdz) if needed.
Everything was perfect!! Thank you Mustafa.

A fabulous experience. Not the easiest to find tucked within the abandoned old kasbah but worth the hunt! Mustafa has recreated a beautiful authentic residence and is the ultimate host. The food and decoration is just perfect and even the WiFi was pretty good! Not that you need it as its the perfect place to unwind. Our kids (12 and 14) also cant stop talking about thr place! You must stay if you are in the area.
Some directions would be good as google maps doesn't work properly in the kasbah. I'd happily also pay more for an ensuite bathroom but understand that might be difficult to build in the old building!

It was a super special experience, staying in the date palm grove. In an ancient refurbished house. Peaceful. And Mustapha took great care of us, we felt like very welcome guests.

Well, what can I say! I spent a wonderful couple of nights at Kasbah Maktob, it was the perfect end to my latest visit to the wonderful country of Morocco. Mustafa is an incredible, gracious and attentive host...and a great cook too! Nothing was too much trouble, and there was no problem that couldn't be solved. When I realised that the mattress in my room was closer to the floor than my arthritic knees would be happy with, I mentioned it to Mustafa in passing, thinking that there was nothing that could be done and that I would just have to deal with it, but "No problem!" he said. Half an hour later a second mattress had been conjured up from somewhere and added to my bed, bringing it up to the perfect height!
The decor is incredible, there really is no mistaking that you're in rural Morocco! Beautiful rugs cover every inch of the floor, and Moroccan decorations adorn the walls. A more authentic experience you couldn't wish for. There was even an aircon unit in the room if you're struggling with the sultry weather (but we'll overlook the authenticity of that, and just be grateful for its presence!).
Mustafa also happily arranged all my transportation, arranging for a taxi to pick me up from the bus stop in Agdz, and then for a taxi to take me to Ouarzazate airport for my flight home. I really had nothing to do but relax on the terrace and enjoy the incredible surroundings, architecture and the views of mountains and palm trees. Having a free afternoon one day, he happily gave me a guided tour of the nearby Kasbah des Caids, an amazing experience and one I will never forget. Sitting chatting and drinking tea with Mustafa was a pleasure, with nothing to think about other than what might be for dinner and whether I might manage to eat it all!
I left feeling that I'd spent a couple of days visiting a friend rather than in a hotel! The reset button was well and truly pushed.
Absolutely nothing.
But just for the sake of writing something here, let me use this to set some expectations. Tamnougalt is a living, breathing village, it's not Marrakech by any stretch of the imagination, so don't go there expecting high-end hotels, shops, bars, restaurants, souks, nightlife and the like. I even struggled to find somewhere in the village that could sell me a can of Coke (although Mustafa sorted that out for me later...another problem solved!). It's rural, set in the Draa Valley with palm trees and crumbling, fascinating ancient kasbahs. It's somewhere to be experienced, not visited. Oh, and if you're planning to go there, take a stash of biros. I was caught off guard one afternoon by a young boy of about 8 years old asking me (in French) if I had any pens - I would have taken some if I'd known that's what the kids there needed.
Don't be put off by the dusty, rocky paths as you approach Kasbah Maktob from the parking area, what awaits you at the end is truly something special. The first thing you will say as you walk through the door will be "Oh wow!", I can almost guarantee it.

This was our best, most authentic stay during our road trip as a family in Morocco. The location in the Ksar of Tamnougalt is just perfect. The host is incredibly nice. Food was great. The views at sun rise were exceptional from our balcony. Highly recommended!

Mustafa built up a little paradise island in a historically rich place right next to Africa’s largest palm oasis.
This place and the friendly hospitability we have received exceeded all expectations and remains one of our top travel experiences in life. Chill vibes, good food, charming rooms, lots of exchange about Morocco.
Highly recommended!

I loved staying in a Kasbah but having a very personal experience with just 2 rooms. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable and the hospitality and food was amazing.

The location is magical, right on the edge of a palm tree grove. We had a warm welcome from Mustafa, who was a great host. The rooms and terrace are just very atmospheric, a really unique place and a highlight of our trip. I would definitely go back there and spend more time exploring the surrounding valley.

This place deserves a score higher than 10!! Everything was absolutely perfect about our stay here: the little Kasbah Maktob is simply extraordinary; such tasteful decoration and such attention to details in the refurbishing of this 17th century mud house. Mustafa, the owner, did such a good job in refurbishing this place that you will struggle to believe that you are in a building made of mud. Carpets and old utensils are wisely scattered around the place and make for great ambience. The terrace overlooking the palmeraia is the highlight of the house. I literally would have stayed there for ever. Mustafa is the other highlight of this place: he's a sweet, welcoming, genuine host and an excellent cook. We had such an amazing dinner and breakfast here, that I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. Beside all this, the xar of Tamagoult is spectacular and the location of Mustafa's riad makes it so easy to get yourself pleasantly lost in the abandoned alleys of the ancient village. This is a place I would not hesitate a second to come back.

The location inside an old Kasbah is really special. You feel like hundred year back in time. It is very quite. All you hear in the mornings is the sound of the donkeys. The place is nicely decorated in a beautiful and traditional manner. The is one most relaxing places we have ever stayed in. Mustafa, the host, is very kind and attentive.
Everything was perfect.

Mustafa is the coolest guy in Tamnougalt, possibly in the whole of Morocco. We have never experienced such a genuine feeling of being welcomed. It was like visiting that really interesting friend that you only get to see every few years. His place is gorgeous and personal- we've never stayed anywhere like it. Truly cannot recommend this kasbah enough.

The Kasbah Magtob Tamnouglat is a special place. Nevertheless, it is not a destination for the tourist but one for the traveller. If you are looking for a modern hotel with high-end facilities don't even bother going there, this place is not meant for you and foremost, you are not meant for this place. -Of course this does not mean that the facility is primitive. you have everything you need (wifi included)-. On the other hand, if you want to have the most original staying experience ever don't hesitate at all. Kasbah Maktob is renovated with care (it's really a living museum) sited within an abandoned village that is transmitting a fantastic, relaxing vibe.
PLUS
Moustafa, (the owner) is a great guy. Good cook too.
The Kasbah of the village is very interesting.
The view from the terrace is fantastic.
The palmerie below. A walk in it will feel like a time-travel.
NEGATIVES
None, except if you are the kind of guy that likes to stay in an all-inclusive hotel at the centre of a town.
TIPS
Don't get stressed with the abandoned village when you arrive. It seems like an eerie place at first but it's enchanting when you get the feel of it. Locals are very kind and you can ask them for directions if you need.

This Kasbah is a piece of art. It is located in a 500 years old csar, it is build with earth, wood and bomboo. It is soo authentically decorated. Our kids love it so much. Mustafa is a very nice guest, he and his helper even played for us and did their best to make our stay a wonderful experience.
This place is a highlight in our 18 days Morocco trip. We would love to come back in the future.
