Was quiet at least.
There was a very bad strong chemical smell in the room. Could not sleep at all and it made me sick. The manager said he doesn't smell it. We kept the door open, had to which brought other problems. Went out for a while, thought it would be gone. Could not get hold of the manager when we realised no amount of aircon circulation or fresh air after a few hours is going to remove the smell, we were stuck with that room.
Don't know what they did in that room but you can't give it to guests like that and then say you don't smell it. Just bad. No compensation was offered even though I made the manager aware of what a difficult night we had. We were up from 12 to 4 am sitting outside as it was impossible to sleep.

The meals provided were excellent and very good value for money. The manager/chef was friendly and helpful. The kitchen utensils and facilities were sufficient. The grounds were well maintained and neat. Everything worked, TV, Aircon, etc.
There were plumbing issues (blockages) with the drains of the kitchen sink, shower etc. Only one emergency light was provided in the event of loadshedding and a second emergency light would have been useful. The road from the town centre to the accommodation is in terrible condition and guests should be warned of it.

The gate kept getting stuck

The room was clean and neat. The staff member on duty was friendly and helpful.
The room has an odd "spa bath" which does not really work (my husband ended up only using the shower inside it). The handles of the cupboard door were very loosely attached and came loose as soon as one touched them. One also has to reverse on a narrow (but high) concrete road from the parking spot of the room that we were allocated to the exit.

From the moment we arrived, the lodge manager Abe, was very attentive to our needs. He checked up frequently during our stay to ensure our needs were met.
The amount of peace and privacy we had there went above and beyond our expectations. This is an ideal place for a couple to break away from the bustle of city life. Wonderful scenic views and a tranquility that is rare to come by these days.
My stay at Esmarline was perfect and I have no complaints about the lodge.
However, the roads leading to the lodge, especially from Brits side, is in a horrid state of disrepair. That however cannot be blamed on the lodge, as it is not their responsibility to maintain the roads and rather falls to the local municipality.

The fact that the guy at the reception was friendly, he really went an extra mile on a few things like sending a location early on the day of check-in and he was also willing to assist.
Well this really dissapointed me. After a pleasant stay when checking out, I was told to wait by the reception because the guy was still going to check if everything is still there (not stolen). I waited for him and he came back saying "alright you can go sir" This can only mean that you don't trust your guests, I think I partially get the reason behind it, but this really put me OFF because I trusted them with my hard earned money yet they don't trust me with their room and made it so obvious. I don't see myself going back there again.
