About this bed and breakfast

Resting on over 14 private acres, Heroncrest was built circa 1840 and boasts scenic ocean views, gracious lawns, perennial gardens and southern exposure. Enjoy sunrises, sunsets and moonlight over picturesque Penobscot Bay in this house furnished with antiques and original art.

There are 3 bathrooms: the downstairs one has a handicap-friendly walk-in shower, one bathroom upstairs has a charming claw foot tub, the other upstairs bathroom has a tub / shower unit. Two bedrooms upstairs have exquisite views of the water and distant islands through the dormer windows. The third upstairs bedroom has a queen bed in a cozy little alcove. The south facing bedroom downstairs also has water views while the other bedroom downstairs has a quiet view to the back woods.

The dining room offers water views to the south. Sliding glass doors lead to a peaceful deck facing the back lawn and woods. The living room, den and upstairs playroom lend private space to all. Included are 100% cotton linens, large towels and a washer and dryer on the main floor.

The well equipped kitchen is stocked with tasty coffee beans and mill, assorted teas, sugar, spices, olive oil and wine vinegar. There is even a stand of chives right off the kitchen entry door!

For the rainy days, there is internet connection, tv, dvds, and some board games. Or you can grab a book from the shelf and curl up for a good read.

Up the hill behind Heroncrest is a wooded 100 acre wildlife preserve, great for snowshoeing in winter and wandering in summer.

Heroncrest is within a mile of downtown Searsport's fabulous rotunda library, antique shops, eateries and the famous Penobscot Maritime Museum. About the same distance from the house is Moosepoint State Park. On occasion, a beautiful wild orchid can be seen along the footpath there. Belfast, with its Friday night art walks, farmer's market and seasonal festivals is 10 minutes away. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are within an hour's drive.

Midcoast Maine has bus service that will take you to within a mile of the house. However, if you wish to explore all there is in the area, a car would be of the essence. There is a car safety seat , some life vests, a pack and play and a booster seat for the table available at the house for our young guests.

Come share this slice of heaven with family and friends!

This was the perfect spot to stay with my husband, our four year old son, my parents, and our two dogs. The house was clean and very spacious with more than enough room for us all. The yard is beautiful and peaceful. We were lucky enough that our stay fell while the lupins, peonies, and roses were all in bloom all over the property. There were fireflies in the evening over the field. We had easy day trips all over the midcoast: Boothbay and the botanical gardens, Camden, Belfast, Castine, Stonington, and Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory. My son's favorite was the Solstice Festival in Sears Island. So much to see and do nearby but the home was private and quiet. Check in and out could not have been easier. Can't wait to come back to the area!

My husband and I had a wonderful extended stay at this lovely home. Carolyn’s photographs and details of Heroncrest really appealed to me and the home and property exceeded my expectations. I felt peacefulness and tranquility both inside the home and sitting outside surrounded by all the fragrant and colorful perennial gardens. The kitchen offered everything you might need or want, including a collection of cookbooks, a variety of spices, and every kitchen tool you would need. Each and every room is beautifully appointed and inviting. The home is located in a great location near restaurants and so many activities. We visited the Botanical Gardens in Booth Bay and Acadia National Park during our stay. Heroncrest is a treasure, and Carolyn is an excellent and lovely host. We stayed at this wonderful home while we awaited our new granddaughter’s birth and her arrival and Heroncrest will always be interwoven in my heart.

Dawn's Review: My husband Gerard and I had the privilege of staying at Heroncrest the first week of October. From our first conversation with the property owner, Carolyn Hearne several days before our trip we had the feeling we were talking to a long time friend. The moment we arrived we could feel the peace and beauty of our surroundings (inside and outside the house). It was like stepping into the home of a cherished relative from the past as we explored the ramblings rooms which included a large kitchen, dining room and living room and many bedrooms all decorated with exquisite antiques which perfectly complimented this 1840's home that was built by a Sea Captain. Every room was a reflection of the love and beauty of Carolyn's personal touch. We were surprised and pleased to discover 2 cozy sitting rooms (where we would spend the evenings). During the day we enjoyed spending time on the back deck and in the charming weathered gazebo out front. October was a perfect time of year to visit with the colorful leaves, warm days and cool evenings. Carolyn's home was a piece of heaven. She is an amazing hostess and was available throughout our stay by text and phone to answer any questions we had. Gerard's Review: Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen of the VRBO Audience, My name is Gerard, husband of my wife Dawn. When inquiring about the house rental with the home owner Carolyn Hearne, Immediately SERENITY filled my Spirit with her Mannerism that was RESPECTFUL and Extremely PROFESSIONAL with a Strong ALLEGIENCE to EMBRACING her Relationship with HONESTY and WARMTH in her dealings with my wife and I. Every room in her home was a REFLECTION of Carolyn Hearne's CREATIVITY and PASSION, COMPLEMENTING and INFLUENCING the overall SPIRIT of the home Summary: Gerard and I felt like we were home and hated to leave. Possibly taking us one step closer to becoming "Mainiacs" I

Disappointing
Disappointing
There were many wonderful things about our family trip to Maine and part of which included where we stayed. The house was in a good location with easy access to multiple towns and places to explore, but out of the busyness and traffic of other areas. Acquire a piece of landWith turkeys and deer and other wildlife. The homeowner was very responsive. The difficulties were about structural issues of the house that caused several hassles, inconveniences and frustrations that interfered with our stay. The cleanliness and outdated and overused stay in kitchen towels also were disappointing.

We thoroughly enjoyed this house. It was much bigger than we expected, loaded with nice extras and so comfortable for our family reunion in Maine. We hired a local photographer to take family pics in the beautiful yard. Thank you, Carolyn. We loved it!

A Nostalgic Getaway
A Nostalgic Getaway
I grew up in a small village in the remote hinterlands of the St. Lawrence River Valley in northern New York. Many of my paternal antecedents were French Canadien dairy farmers. This Searsport farm felt like a trip back to the bygone days of my youthful past, a visit to home. The building and property were delightful, the kitchen was commodious, the beds fine, the decor very homey and interesting. Although we ended up with six adults and one two-year old child, there was room to accommodate several more. Even with 90-degree days the nights were cool enough to sleep well. I mention the following to advise Carolyn for future guests. The ground fault outlet to the right of the sink has seen better days and popped off. Rather than play with circuit breakers in the cellar we plugged the coffee pot in elsewhere. And the split A/C unit was not working until someone came and fixed it. I mention this not in complaint, these items were too minor for worry or concern, but merely as information for your maintenance people. We have a son in Portland and relatives on Branch Lake near Ellsworth so hope to return to this Searsport farm again. I was a licensed Professional Engineer but in retirement give poetry tours and lectures at the farm/estate of Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, New York. So we have an abiding interest in the Camden/Belfast area and would definitely return to this Searsport farm and recommend it to others. It's not the same old type of place one sees everywhere.

Loved This Charming, Sprawling Home
Loved This Charming, Sprawling Home
Six members of our family gathered here from Seattle and Shepherdstown WV. Such a lovely, homey and soulful place. And amazingly well equipped-especially the kitchen. Plenty of room to gather, or to find a quiet spot to nap. Lovely meadows and an old apple orchard to roam as well. Great home base to explore Belfast to the south, and the Blue Hill Peninsula (LOVED Castine) and Acadia. Thank you, Carolyn, for all of your suggestions and for sharing your charming home with us.
