This is our second stay at the loon Maine house! It is the perfect family house and so much you can do right at the house! Lake and activities and great fishing! We will be back!
4.8
The Loon house was an excellent getaway and an excellent vacation. We had everything we needed! Beautiful, huge pond filled with fish, a peddle boat, several kayaks, a great walkoff dock. The swimming was great. The water temp in July was fantastic! Pristine area. Very quiet but only 45 mins from Bar Harbor and about 50 mins from Bangor. Ideal for our family!
4.8
Wonderful property out of the way of the main hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. Travel to mainstays are within 45-55 minutes. Loved the pond - plenty of time kaiaking and hanging with the ducks in the area. No shortage of memories to be made here - cannot recommend enough!

The pictures don’t do it justice! Absolutely beautiful inside and out. Nice, relaxing atmosphere.

Peaceful setting with numerous recreational opportunities. House provided all amenities.

This was our second time at the Loon house. The house and surroundings are spectacular. We spent several days exploring Acadia. We would love to come back!

We loved our stay at the Loon House! A beautiful home where we could have spent many more weeks, and a great home base for exploring the area.

Property, neat, had everything you could possibly need, just as advertised. Heard Loons at nite, pond is peaceful and pretty. If you want to cook Lob stah-well you in right place! Perfect pot, many different “shell crackers” we loved it. Unfortunately hurricane Lee shut down our trip early-only was to get out was to leave Thirsday.
This vrbo restored our faith in the company as a whole. The last few we rented had issues. None whatsoever here. Beds comfy, plenty o hot water. Huge kitchen, porch awesome for morning coffee.
Did Arcadia, Bar Harbor, Canada including St. Andrews which was charming! Ate nothing but seafood for five days! Still didn’t try it all!
This is a top notch place for families, great for me and wife who are both in 60’s too.

We loved it.

This is our second time staying here. We fell in love the first time. As soon as you walk in you smell that the house was just cleaned and fresh. The house is perfect for a family and near all attractions. The host responded quickly to all questions and was a perfect Jose. Highly recommend.

We had a great stay. The house had everything that we needed and then some. We traveled to Acadia and Bar Harbor every morning and came back after lunch to kayak, swim and build a fire. The location is a bit remote (23 minutes to drive into town for groceries, etc..) but the flip side to that is we had the entire pond to ourselves most of the week. We only saw 1 or 2 other people the entire week. We would definitely stay here again.

Mitch was extremely responsive and answered all of our questions!

First time being on a private pond and it was great. With limited access, the people in the houses on the pond get it mostly to themselves. That said, we were surprised when a sea plane landed on Sunday - how exciting! The fishermen among us caught lots of sunfish and a perch off the dock, and many more large perch, smallmouth bass, and even a largemouth from the kayak supplied with the house. We enjoyed using the paddleboat too. Morning walks down the dirt road past the ripe blueberry fields were very tranquil. It is Maine, there are bugs outside, bring high-DEET bug spray. The screened porch provided a mostly outdoor and mostly bug free compromise. Firepit was great - first fire was built and ready to light. Inside, fresh flowers on the table when we arrived and everything clean. Great water pressure in the showers. It was good to see how the owner noted upgrades to the property over the years in their coffee table notebook showing continuous improvements. We had a little trouble with the clothes dryer, but the owner was responsive. I could see a few more items added to the upgrade list soon such as retiring at least one of the twin mattresses and maybe the well-used but still functional gas grill. The other nice thing about the location is it makes a great jumping off point for day trips. We went to Acadia and Bar Harbor twice, and even up to St. Andrews in New Brunswick (remember you need passports to cross into Canada now).

The house is very big with nice-sized living room, master bedroom, kitchen and reasonable accommodations for additional guests upstairs. Many thoughtful touches, for example a heating fan in the bath. Very few mosquitoes (unusual for the area). No motorized boats on the lake. The lake is not huge but pretty suitable for swimming. Overall, a wonderful place

This property is so relaxing and tranquil that you'll never want to leave. The house was clean and comfortable with all the modern amenities as well as some welcomed additions like the ping pong table and air hockey table. We saw a bald eagle everyday and sitting down on the dock was so relaxing; especially in the morning when the loons were the most active. My husband enjoyed paddling out to the middle of the pond to do some fishing. He caught lots of bass.
The weather wasn’t the greatest when we stayed (obviously not the owner’s fault), but we were able to make the best of it and still enjoyed our stay very much. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

Hands down 5 star!! We have never stayed at the same VRBO twice but when we come back to Maine, I will be staying here again. Great location, had all the amenities we needed, and very clean. The boys loved the fishing. They didn't even want to leave and go to Acadia! If you are looking for a nice quiet retreat this is it.

Had a great a great time. Would highly recommend.

Highly recommend this place. Very peaceful and beautiful. Easy to find
Clean. Not far to Bar Harbor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean, well-appointed, and well organized. Loved the little details. There was even a wood stack set and ready to light in the fire pit. Mitch was an awesome host and and responded right away when there were questions. We’d stay again!

Nice property. Lovely to be able to put our kayaks into the water from the dock. Enjoyed strolls up the road.

The house was well equipped and stocked with all of the essentials for our family of 6. Our youngest has special needs and the layout of the house paired with safety gates made our stay easier. The ping pong and air hockey tables were a nice addition for the kids. The lake was so peaceful and we saw loons, bullfrog, bald and golden eagles, pileated woodpeckers, the list goes on. The house is close to tons of attractions and not a bad ride from Acadia and Bar Harbor. We would highly recommend.

This place was both beautiful and relaxing! We had kids and teens with us and everyone loved it. From the lake, to the firepit, to the ping pong setup in the basement. We are from Virginia and had never been to Maine before but I found this place far enough away to enjoy nature and close enough to take the kids out if they wanted! My only recommendation would be to have the ability to make the fireplace come on. Are Jose Maine nights were a little chilly for us!

Mitch was an amazing host, extremely helpful and responsive. House and location was perfect for a family vacation to Maine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Perfect get away, but close to it all
We loved our stay at The Loon House. We don't have any cons about the house or the location. What we were looking for was a home on a lake/pond, away from it all, but close enough to drive to it all. Honestly, shhh, but this house is way under priced for what it has to offer. Here is a quick rundown:
House - clean, every window has new screens (which I can tell you from experience, is a must have in Maine in the woods on a lake), linens and towels are clean and fresh and new, mattresses are new and comfy, carpets are clean and seem new, updated bathrooms with good water pressure, updated kitchen with space to cook and all needed items in the kitchen, garbage drop is right up the short dirt road (again, from experience, in Maine, it can be a few miles away). We didn't watch much tv, but it works great with lots of channels, wifi was fast. Laundry works great. fun games in the basement. honestly, there were no negatives.
Lake (since it's way too big to actually only be a pond):
We brought a paddle board and used their kayaks, every day. In the morning I would paddle out in the silence around me, the views are beautiful and then I'd swim in the water, so clean and quiet.
Road:
We brought bikes to use at Acadia, but the best thing is that the dirt road was so long we could ride our bikes all the way up and down it, past the blueberry field and other open fields, so pretty.
Location:
We could drive to Acadia's welcome center in 45 mins. We could drive to The Jordan Pond parking lot in just over 1 hour. We visited family in Bangor in just about 40 mins. We drove to a town called Machias in about 1 hr 15 mins. We decided to check out something north for fun, we also checked out Roque Bluffs, all worth it. The house is right off Rt. 200, so it remote but easily accessible to where you might want to go on day trips. There is a gas station/market about 15 mins from the house for some items you might need. Ellsworth is about 25 mins and you can have dinner out and find a larger grocery store.
We'd 100% rent this home again. Also, what I loved most was the history of the house and family who own it. There is a framed story from one of the kids and it brought tears to my eyes. You'll have to rent it to read it and you won't be sorry.

What a relaxing vacation
Where do I start? It was amazing from start to finish! You didn’t even have to leave the property! We kayaked and fished every day and caught small mouth bass by the dozens! Just a short ride to bar harbor where we explored Acadia! This house is amazing and we can’t wait to stay again! Thank you for everything!

Perfect place to disconnect and unwind.
This place was great. Perfect to disconnect and enjoy nature. The property itself was great. Tons of firewood and plenty of space inside for the family to enjoy. Don’t expect cell service or fast internet. This place is all about disconnecting and enjoying the peace.

We had a wonderful time during our stay. Beautiful views. We even saw several bald eagles! Great location for our adventures in Bar Harbor and Acadia, but far enough from the town to be secluded. Several fish were caught from the house dock. We loved dining at Ruth and Wimpy's and Helen's!

My hubby and daughter and I were so happy with this place and absolutely want to come back! We loved relaxing by the water and listening to the loons. The property and house is absolutely gorgeous! The house was well stocked with kitchen/household items you would need....everything the owner listed is what you get! The property is very private, but there are wonderful stores and restuarants within 20 mins or so. The owner was very nice when he emailed us and was very thorough. My only (tiny) complaint is the lady cleaning the place wasnt finished until almost an hour after check in.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Loon House! The house was very clean, the beds comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with supplies. It’s so peaceful sitting on the deck or screened in porch and listening to the loons. We saw three bald eagles on the property which was exciting! We loved star gazing during the Perseid's Meteor Shower and were lucky enough to see a fireball which was awesome! We enjoyed the fire pit, kayaking and the games in the basement. It’s less than an hour to Acadia and Schoodic but save some time to relax and enjoy the property. Mitch responded quickly to questions. We highly recommend a stay at Loon house.
