About this apartment rental
This exceptional split-level apartment in the Monastery Tower is truly unique. Beautiful original stone windows offer breathtaking views over Loch Ness. It has a stunning and private location on the top floor of St Benedict’s Abbey, a Victorian monastery that has been converted into luxury apartments. Stylishly decorated throughout, this property makes a wonderful romantic getaway.
Alternatively, it could be used for a party of four utilising the large sofa bed in the main living area.
The property is situated at the top of the grand stone staircase from the historic cloisters walkway. If you look at pictures of the Abbey, in many of them you will see a tall, square tower that stands above the rest of the building – this is where the Monastery Tower apartment is located.
In many of the apartments, and from the Abbey grounds itself, you will get some wonderful views of Loch Ness but the Monastery Tower offers truly unrestricted views over the trees and right across the water.
All of the rooms in the apartment are special but the highlight is probably the open plan living / kitchen area. A series of stunning arch windows work their way around this unique room bringing in much light and providing panoramic views of the loch and mountains.
Entertainment options include a flat screen TV with Freesat, Netflix (provided free to our guests), and bluetooth speakers for your phones and tablets. The fully fitted and well-equipped kitchen area features lovely granite work surfaces and the dining area has an oak dining table and four chairs.
Upstairs, the bedroom features a very comfortable king size bed, with windows overlooking the cloisters and a flat screen TV with an integrated DVD player for those lazy days.
Located next to the bedroom, the bathroom with its original quatrefoil windows and lovely views has a powerful built-in shower over the bath. There is also a second toilet located on the lower floor.
This welcoming apartment provides modern comforts and convenience whilst retaining many of its striking original features.

We loved our stay at this picturesque Abby. It was so unique and special on the Loch Ness. I would definitely come back. The only thing you really should know is that it is 75 stairs to get all the way up. Worth the climb, but just good stuff to know.

LOVED staying in the tower!!!
How fun staying in such a magnificent old monastery.
The apartment is beautiful and well equipped. Quite comfortable for a reprieve from a busy trip. Perfect spot to relax and recharge. And look for Nessie! Lol
Wish we could have stayed longer!
We will be back!!!
Thank you for sharing your special spot!
FYI...Read reviews about the steps leading up. They didn't bother us at all. Worth the climb. 👍

Great accommodation but BE PREPARED FOR LOTS OF STAIRS and a short walk. Kitchen was well equipped and updated. Oven had something on it which smoked quite a bit when we tried to use it but not a major problem.

Brilliant views in a gorgeous building in a lovely area with friendly people

This is one of the absolute coolest places we’ve ever stayed. The views were breathtaking, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen was totally functional, and the apartment was roomy. If you don’t mind stairs and you enjoy unique experiences this is for you.

Wonderful facility. Clean Apartment. Fantastic views.

Be aware that the property is accessed via 107 stairs - a challenge with luggage!

Apartment was beautiful
Views were terrific
Only drawback was six flights of stairs to get all the way up to the top of the apartment.
Fort Augustas was nice but both groceries and restaurants are limited depending on the day Guests should be prepared with food and or reservations.
Apartment was clean but major bath smelled excessively of bleach
All in all a great stay

My family could not have had a better stay. The property was exactly as listed, the gentleman that met us to show us around was great. If I travel to the area again I would definitely try to stay there again.

What an absolutely lovely place!! Getting our luggage up there was a bit breathtaking, but the views and the quietness was wonderful. Ft Augustus is just across the street and very charming. Be sure to check out the Boathouse Restaurant, you wont be disappointed. This is a very unique place to stay in a great location

It was quite a unique place to stay. The whole club and also staying at the tower. It really looked a bit like Hogwarts.

Once we connectes with the right host, we got a great tour of the building and it's amenities before tackling 9ish flights of stairs to the apartment. Once inside, you realize this cool and quirky place is based on three levels. Bed is at the very top and is comfortable. Living space is in the middle and is relatively roomy. Kitchen has everything you need, although the plumbing miat has some creative kinks in it because the dishwaaher gurgles when you drain the sink and the toilets are pretty finicky. Views are amazing, but you have to be pretty tall to see them put the windows. Pool and Billiard room and swimming pool was fun, but the ping pong table has the most amazing accoustics and the chess board has a hogwarts feel to it. There are a few cosmetic things (peeling plaster in bathroom due to moisture control) All in all, its a pretty magical place as long as you are willing to climb 10 flights of stairs! We loved it.

We visited in late June 2022 and stayed 7 nights at this wonderful apartment. The building was amazing and so full of history. The apartment was very cozy with very good amenities (with the exception of cooking spices). Wi-Fil was strong and view from living room out onto Loch Ness was amazing. Lots of steps but this did not bother us too much except at the end of the day after a long day of hiking or walking. Worth every step though.

Fantastic property. Steeped in history and the location is centrally located for easy access to beautiful spots north and south. Lovely hiking trails within walking distance. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

What a great place! Our host Mike was so welcoming! Such a neat experience and the views were amazing! Wish we would have had more time to just sit and enjoy the property. You can look out your windows at Loch Ness! Walking around felt like being at Hogwarts - according to our son! Would highly recommend.

Impressive complex, lots to see and do.

Our family of four (children aged 5 and 8) stayed in the old bell tower over Easter. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable, the views of the loch are wonderful, and there is lots for children to do, including an indoor swimming pool. The location is peaceful but close to walking trails, restaurants and lake cruises. The unique, older building has some quirks, for example, doors are weighted fire doors and most windows do not have shutters or blockout. Be aware that there are several flights of stairs and there is no lift. Communication was all clear and timely.

We stayed in the tower apartment in the Abbey. It overlooked Loch Ness and was a terrific accommodation. Steep steps up into the tower may make it less desirable if you have mobility issues.

If you’re looking for something unique and different, this is definitely the place. Felt like Hogwarts from Harry Potter. The grounds were stunning and the architecture is incredible. Be prepared to climb a lot of stars though! Don’t bring too much :)

Special apartment in a great property

The location is wonderful. It is a unique property unlike any I have stayed in. The exact room is even more unique being the former bell tower and the highest in the complex. Great views and clean. Comfortable. The only challenge we faced was that we were not able to use the pool due it being off limits later in the day and we were sightseeing during the earlier times. It was stated we could used the pool up to 8 but found out later that was not possible. We were also not able to locate the gym, which may have been near the pool.

My wife and I had a very wonderful time in Ft Augustus and this property was really neat. Yes, there are a LOT of steps getting up into the tower but worth the climb. We only had one issue and that was with the water heater. It kept faulting out and had to be reset. We had to figure out how to deal with it. If you only wanted hot water it was fine but when on the hot water & heat mode there were issues. Nothing we couldn't work around once we knew the drill. The view from the tower was magnificent and the whole property was steeped in history. The Caledonia Canal was super cool. Every morning around 9:00 they would pass boats through the locks. Ft Augustus was central to all kinds of day trips out and about. Would definitely stay again. Just be sure you don't forget something in the flat or in the car that you have to make a return trip for. Again, LOTS of stairs.

Three night(should have booked for longer) accommodation was perfect, location and views were outstanding!
Met by Paul who showed us around couldn’t have been more helpful.
We will be booking again and this time for longer.

The apartment itself was very unique, like nowhere we have ever stayed before. I would not want to live there, but it was really cool to spend a few days vacationing here. The Abbey was super cool and fun to explore. The views of Loch Ness from the apartment were wonderful and the super convenient location was awesome. We loved walking into town for breakfast and dinner and watch the boats go through the locks. We had a few issues with the hot water during our stay (the reason we gave it 4 stars instead of 5), but hopefully they get that fixed and future guests will not have that same problem. One word of caution for guests is that this is a big property and there are about 100 steps up to the room, so plan accordingly! You don't want to forget anything and have to make unnecessary trips back and forth to your room! We found this part of the charm and character of the place, but some people may not like that many steps up to their room. Overall we were very happy with our stay in the Bell Tower at the Abbey.

Relaxing stay with great views
Truly enjoyed this 2 night stay in unique historic property with modern facilities in great and paired with easy logistics
The view alone is worth the trek but we really appreciated the good communication and attention the questiiins and requests
We would look to book again if ever back in fort Augustus
Thank you!

Clean & beautiful apartment
Our family of four stayed here for two evenings and absolutely loved it. The views from our windows of the Loch were incredible and the apartment itself was clean and comfortable. It was located directly across from restaurants and the small grocery store. There was no lift but we didn’t mind the stairs. Well worth the view. Thanks for such a unique place to rest at night!

We loved the atmosphere of the Abbey and everything it had to offer. Our Monastery Tower room has exceptional views of the Loch. The sometimes daunting part is the 90 steps it takes to get from the main floor to the apartment. We loved the location of the Abbey that was a short walk to the town and canal. Enjoyed watching the boats work their way through the canal. From the Abbey we most enjoyed the surprise gem of hiking the South Great Glen Way trail. This trail cuts through the sheep meadow where pheasants also live. Hiking up the hill will reward you with stunning view of the Loch. Lovely!

We really enjoyed the stay way up high! (get ready for stairs, but totally worth it). We loved the apartment and we had one issue with laundry but the manager worked with us and got the issue fixed. It was easy to walk to lots of shops and restaurants. We used this as our base to go see Isle of Skye for a couple days. Perfect time!

such a great property, super location being as high as you can be in the tower you have super views from the windows.
if your able to climb the steps to this apartment(there is no lift) it should be on your list of places to stay. the stairs are wide and easy to use, no worry about a spiral stair case!

A quick getaway to the Highlands
The location and views from the property are excellent. Location to surrounding area is good for going to Inverness or the area around the Abbey. We had many trips into the woods/Forests around and had a wonderful time.
I would have liked the pool area to be opened longer say till 21:00 so that if you wanted to relax you didn't have to rush back from enjoying the local scenery.
Overall we enjoyed it very much and would certainly consider going back another time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unusual property. It had everything provided that you will need for your stay and a fantastic view of Loch Ness. The tea, coffee, milk and biscuits provided were a lovely welcome. There is access to a swimming pool, gym and tennis courts which is an added bonus.
It was in the perfect position for us to explore the Highlands, with lots of walks from the flat as well as further afield and hiring a bike was easy for cycling along the canal path, or further along the Great Glen Way. We would thoroughly recommend this property, but do bear in mind that there are a significant number of stairs to access the flat, which could be daunting after a whole day of walking/climbing/cycling, but definitely well worth the effort!

Perfect Getaway
The building was fantastic, old and new, but we stayed in the old part, near the old bell tower (converted into a two floor apartment). The views were to die for and the grounds were idyllic and inspiring with clean air and mountain views along with being afforded a perfect view of the Loch ness.
Inside the apartment, we had a lounge area, kitchen, a separate toilet and a bedroom and toiled/ bathroom area upstairs. The bed was sooooo comfortable, i nearly slept the week we were there, lol!!
There is a local mini supermarket 5 mins walk, with a garage to top up at before you search further afield. The roads are pretty quiet genaerally, but you have to get used to some single lanes with passing bays.... :)
The local people are super friendly and I recommend you also visit the glass souvenir shop nearby as it has some great stuff there.
We were not to enthralled with the local chip restaurant there, but maybe that was just us, BUT the local pub/ restaurant's were pretty good and just a couple of minutes walk away .... oh and there is Nessie by the river as well!!
Scotland is AMAZING !! you will love it there. We will be back and I am sure you will be as well. Dont forget to visit the Ben Nevis Range... You can even take a lift to the top!! Amazing place aso.....
Finally, as a family person, i would say this place is great for kids as well. We stayed in our apartment with 2 adults and 2 kids (on a provided sofa bed) and we had the luxary of playing chess outdoors, swimming in a pool, table tennis, sauna and other stuff we had no time for. If the weather is bad, this place is AMAZING!! If the weather is good, it is still amazing and our Landlords, Nick & Sarah were so quick and great in answering any questions. I would HIGHLY recommend here to anyone looking for the perfect week or two away!!
