This owner cancelled our trip with this message “Cancel find another rental”. Rude for one. Then could not get our money back to find something else for our thanksgiving. Called and emailed several times. Finally went through my bank to get our money back. Ruined our thanksgiving plans.

Great peaceful stay, quiet all night and the creek running in front of the property makes it great to fall asleep

I recently stayed at this property with my family of six which included four smal children. This cabin/property is special . You can tell there has been a lot of love in this cabin in how it has been taken care of over the years. We were able to catch some trout in the creek as well. We had absolutely no issues. Excellent communication with the owner who is very accommodating in all aspects. We are definitely plan to come stay here again in the future. Five stars

My experience outside the house was wonderful, except, for the cameras which in the contract does not mention that they are always recording, but apart from that the outside of the house was something so beautiful that it cannot be described in words.About the house, the interior part is very sad to see; the deterioration was so bad, it is a pity that they are not taking care of the house and the house is in no condition to be rented. uninhabitable- Since you enter theirs an unpleasant smell of old house and humidity impacting you.- They charge you for the cleaning of which there is none, everything was disgustingly dirty including the refrigerator where we put the food, the shelf where the pots are placed were all full of mouse poop and not only in the kitchen also in the bathrooms(1 bathroom and 2 half bathrooms,in the living room, dining room, under the beds, behind the shelves. The poop of the other guests (the rat was everywhere, the carpet of the upstairs room is stained everywhere, that room does not have any kind of privacy. (No curtains (that was the part of the house that had more plague (EVERY DAY WE HAD TO CLEAN THE POOP OF THE LITTLE MICE(THE SUPPOSED SON OF MRS. KAY TALKED TO MY HUSBAND AND WE TOLD HIM ALL THE PROBLEMS WE HAD; HE PUT POISON FOR RATS- The reservation was made for 5 people (2 couples and my son who is18 years old) and only had 2 full beds’, my son slept in the recliner the seven nights in my room.(don't give you access the other room-The house had mold everywhere as it has a nylon on top of the roof covering the leaks.-The WIFI has almost no coverage and in the area that is the house you do not have any type of signal.THEY HAVE A PHONE LINE IN THE HOUSE WHICH WE HAD TO SHARE WITH 2 MORE PROPERTIES BUT WHICH ON ONE OCCASION WE COINED WITH OTHER TENANTS WHO SAID MANY BAD WORDS WHEN THEY FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE USING THE PHONE-The only bath that the house had was almost always clogged Water would not drain-We arrived on Friday and Sunday my husband talked to Mrs.Kay's son because my son is asthmatic, and the smell and mold was causing him a crisis and he told us to put a dehumidifier that they had in the closet which was full of water. And some had spilled on the carpet.AT THIS TIME MRS.KAY IS CHARGING ME BECAUSE SHE SAYS THAT WE VOMITED ON THE CARPET AND THAT LEFT A VERY BAD SMELL TO THE HOUSE I HAVE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING I SAID TO CONFIRM THAT EVERYTHING IS TRUE.MOLD,MICE POOP,COBWEB,WATER LEAKS,CLOGGED DRAIN. GOD IS FAIR.

This letter is in response to our recent visit to your property and your last response.
Do not worry we will never request another visit as this is the ONLY BAD experience with a listing and host in over 45-50 vacation rentals and business rentals I have had.
I have contacted VRBO and they have a case number and they also confirmed you have claimed our damage deposit. We left the place cleaner that it was when we arrived and with NO damages.
The only claim you have is for 2 additional people which I was willing to pay as I mentioned.
Now for what I feel you OWE me for services listed in listing that YOU did not make available to us. First the listing stated loft with 2 twin bed, no ac which YOU DID NOT LEAVE A KEY AND YOU DID NOT GIVE ACCESS TO. Second the listing had internet service which YOU DID NOT PROVIDE FROM WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON. THIS CAUSED 3 OF US TO HAVE TO GO TO TOWN TO RECEIVE AND REPLY TO EMAILS AS I PROVIDE SOFTWARE SUPPORT, ONE SON WORKS WITH CLIENTS ON CAD PLANS AND ANOTHER HAS AN ETSY SITE TO TAKE ORDERS. You should not have discontinued your existing internet until you had replaced it. WHAT IS THE VALUE FOR WHAT YOU DID NOT PROVIDE THAT WE PAID FOR?
With that being said there are two ways this issue can go?
When I made a claim with VRBO representative he asked if I wanted to escalate the case? I said I would like to send a personal response to you prior to escalation as I did not want to create any more issues or frustrations on both our parts and that you had just lost your husband and he thought that was great of me before escalating it.
So here’s my recommendation, you refund me my deposit and we both walk away from escalating my FULL complaint and I will amend my case to only cover the misrepresentations with VRBO on your listing so others may not have issues in the future. YOU chose not to respond and VRBO confirmed.
One you need to change the bed listing to 6 NOT 7 for that is all there is no mater which way you count. Second you have to remove the listing of FOURTH BEDROOM which must be above the garage and is NOT part of this listing. In the photos you need to add a disclaimer on the photos that show the garage and list as not part of this listing. Lastly YOU NEED TO REMOVE 2 CAMERAS THAT ARE ON THE FRONT HOUSE PORCH AND ON THE GARAGE LOFT PORCH YOU CAN KEEP THE ONE FACING DRIVEWAY COMING INTO THE PROPERTY. THESE CAMERAS ARE IN DIRECT VIOLATION OF VRBO RULES.
You spied and listened to us!

Location was lovely as described. Enjoyed listening to the creek during morning coffee. Definitely plan to arrive during daylight hrs and do not pay attention to GPS as it will route you to gravel roads. About 1/2 to town and about 1 hr to Bryson City. Enjoyed our stay.

This house/cabin was homey, cozy, comfortable, and well appointed. Perfect home base for our family of 5 and our dog as we explored the Nantahala area. Fire circle next to the stream in the front yard. Streams, waterfalls, wildflowers, and gorgeous views everywhere you look! The owners were great to work with - very responsive and caring.

We spent 6 days at the property and had a great time, despite the rain for half of the time. The fire pit by the creek is great, and the owners have stocked plenty of wood. On the rainy days it was great to light up the cast iron fireplace inside. There is a second cabin immediately adjacent which was not being used while we were there. Note there was no cell phone coverage for us there but the internet was good.

This place is truly a hidden gem if you are looking for something restful, beautiful, and big enough for your family. The cabin is unique with its quirky features, but it makes for a memorable time. My family was able to get some much needed rest, enjoy hiking in the forests, and share lots of laughs around the kitchen table. Our only complaints were that the dishes in the cabinets were pretty dirty upon arrival, the upstairs was extremely dusty, and the roof leaked a little when it rained. Also, we lost power for 1/2 a day in the middle of a very light rain fall. These things did not ruin our experience, but just stand as any normal potential improvements. The creek outside provides the most peaceful sound to fall asleep to, read a book by, or wade in playfully. The place has plenty of space to sit, inside and out, if you are cozied up in the winter. The surrounding woods are beautiful and provide plenty of space to adventure. It is also perfectly placed near Nantahala and Great Smoky Mountain National Park if you want to explore all the trails. It is not that hard to find and our GPS brought us right to the driveway. I would surely come back and recommend it to others that are looking for a quiet getaway outside of the city. Thanks Kay!

I’m sure the owner will say that I drove in the grass. Yes I did, as we arrived in the dark with no apple lighting to turn around unless you want to drive into the creek. So I went slow and turned around in the yard to be safe. This house is basically a 1950s decorated smelly shack. I had to check out in day 2 because of black mold all over the shower. And the cob webs everywhere. DO NOT RENT THIS PLACE. These people shouldn’t be allowed to be in the rental business period. They are putting peoples health in jeopardy. STAY AWAY.

I feel so fortunate to have found this home and for having gotten to experience its tranquility! I picked the Robbinsville area for this mountain trip due to hiking in the area and went house looking from there. Kay’s place couldn’t have been more perfect for my daughter, dog and I. I look for private, good views, pet friendly and affordable- Kay’s place was all that and more!Everyday was an adventure- we drove the Cherohala Skyway, hiked around Indian Boundary Lake, Falls Branch Trail, Huckleberry Knob and Joyce Kilmer-all off the skyway- drove around Lake Santeetlah up to see Fontana Dam, hiked Yellow creek falls trail and explored Cheoah Point Beach. We’d return to the cabin before dark to play in the stream while getting a camp fire going to eat supper around. The sounds of the water were amazing and so many things for a child and dog to explore. Swimming here would be wonderful! The home is set quite literally into a mountain side with beautiful landscaping and a bridge over the water. You could absolutely make a trip just out of the home and surrounding very rural area, I drove to see streams as beautiful as the one right out this home’s front door! Thanks again Kay for opening your home up to us folks- I can see from the coziness and decor how much it’s meant to you over the years- it was a true pleasure for us!

It was not very clean and very dark. There were no lights anywhere. I would not stay there again.

What a wonderful place to stay and forget about everything. Very comfortable has everything you need. Walking around outside with my dog we just loved looking at other houses and having no fear of vacationing by myself. The creek was so soothing falling asleep at night. Would come and visit again for sure. If you want peace stay here.

Beautiful property with older home. Snowbird Mountain area is amazing and this is an easy distance to Cherohala Skyway, Joyce Kilmer and the local lakes. As shared with the property owner, improved cleaning would be of help. Kay told me, "Housekeepers are not a dime a dozen" and she was "amazed" that I had checked under the bed before we left for any forgotten items. The numerous old socks, hairbands, water bottle and other unknown items was a bit off putting.Dishwasher was out of order (per handwritten note on counter. Advised afterwards that it had just happened. Not a big deal as soap and scrubber provided which was appreciated), coffee maker on the fritz (bought a temp at Dollar store), and we did a much needed cleaning of the AC filters when we arrived. The newer side porch is very pleasant and we spent most of our time there while at the house. Appreciated Kay letting us bring our dogs and confirming that we had kept the house nice. Overall enjoyed and got the rest we needed.

We love to visit Robbinsnville and have vacationed in the area for years. This is our first time at A Breath of Fresh Air and we couldn’t recommend it any higher. It’s charming. Quiet. Out of the way in a beautiful setting. If you are looking for a respite - then you must book this property. It is what it’s all about.
