About this house rental
The Land
Hummingbird Lodge is situated on forested land filled with rhododendron, ferns, lupine, and berry bushes. During the warmer months, hammocks and Adirondack chairs let you enjoy the beauty of the land comfortably. Or soak in the hot tub as you watch the bluebirds, hummingbirds, and squirrels play in the cedars and Douglas firs.
Our youngest guests enjoy searching for fairies in the woods, building forts, and taking nature walks, all within our fenced 10 acre property. Let them wander without concern, and then call them back with the dinner bell.
The deck, newly built in August 2017, includes a spacious dining table and umbrella, as well as a new Char Broil gas grill.
*We just started an Instagram account to share some more visuals about the property and surrounding activities! Please take a look @HummingbirdMt.Hood and #hummingbirdmthood.
The House
For those preferring the indoors, lounge in the great room under soaring log ceilings by the fire, or cook for friends in the open kitchen. Share your meal at the custom-built, live edge dining table, lovingly crafted by the homeowners.
The living room includes a new television and a selection of DVDs to suit the whole family. We just installed internet in February 2021 and haven't gotten streaming services going yet. (Will update this listing when that changes.)
Downstairs, just past the living room and kitchen, you'll find a queen bedroom across the hall from the bunkroom. The bunkroom includes a twin-over-full bunkbed plus a separate twin; it sleeps four. These two rooms share the full bathroom downstairs.
Upstairs, you'll discover a loft with books and games for children and adults, plus a cozy chair for reading.
Pass a full bathroom on your way to the very large master bedroom, with windows looking out over dense forest and rhododendron bushes. This room includes a king-sized bed and a lounge chair, which unfolds into a twin sized sleeper. We keep bedding for the lounger in the master closet. While this provides a ninth sleeping space, we don't include it in the count, as we recommend it just for children. (Our six-year-old finds it extremely comfortable.)
A desk, comfortable chair, and desk lamp occupy a corner of the master bedroom for those who choose to work from Hummingbird Lodge. A wifi booster in the upstairs hallway ensures a strong signal.
The Surroundings
Just one hour from Portland, Hummingbird Lodge provides the best of all worlds. On your way to the home, pass through Sandy to pick up any groceries you need. Perhaps stop at one of the Portland-caliber restaurants just five or ten minutes from the house; we love Al Forno Ferruzza and Koya Kitchen most of all. Then retreat to ultimate privacy at Hummingbird Lodge. Depending on the time of year you visit, some of Oregon's best hikes are just a few minutes up the road. (We love Ramona Falls and Burnt Lake, and dozens of other destinations await.) Or pile into the car for a 15-20 minute drive to Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline (which we recommend to the non-skiers too year round.) Fishing, swimming, golf, rafting, and world-class rock climbing at French's Dome are all a short distance away. And most importantly for many of us, we always provide coffee for our guests.
*Our Property Fee per night covers Clackamas County lodging taxes. We remit that fee directly to the county.

Nice large cabin with a big living room and master bedroom (upstairs). Check in was easy. Cabin was clean and comfortable. One of the larger hot tubs I've seen. Coffee beans were ready in the grinder!
The land is cleared out as you drive to the house because of the large power lines nearby, but the house itself is nice and secluded in the trees so it's quiet and private. Nice fireplace with wood ready to go (no gas starter, so collect your kindling outside).
Location is good if you want to travel to the Mt. Hood area or the Columbia River Gorge.
All in all, a great stay. Recommended!

What a great place! Our family (4 adults and 3 kids) had a great time. House has a very well equipped kitchen, big hot tub and lots of property for the kids to run around and walk little trails. Convenient to Mt. Hood and nearby hikes. My son even brought his disc golf equipment and he and his son had fun with it there.

Amazing!
We had the most wonderful time! We all felt the weekend went by way too fast, and that we needed more time! The only downside was, no fire pit out back to help smoke away the bugs. And the Well water had a very strong sulfur smell, like rotten eggs, anytime you turned on the taps. It was fine for cleaning and what not, but definitely not drinking. However, it didn’t ruin the experience. It was still a wonderful cabin and we will be booking there again soon!

Great secluded getaway
It was a wonderful getaway cabin. We wanted seclusion and to relax and definitely got that here. Lovely hot tub, nice large property to explore nature and close enough to Timberline to take a quick drive up the the resort. Great communication with Stephanie. Will definitely be back sometime.

Perfect Getaway!
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hummingbird Lodge! My children were free to roam the land, hunting down monuments documented on the charming hand drawn map, exploring the documented trails and taking turns on the swings. The home is full of little details that are so sweet, the beds and furniture are comfortable and adorned beautifully. With the selection of books, games, puzzles and movies, there was something for each of us! What a wonderful, relaxing visit, we are excited to plan our next trip to Hummingbird Lodge!

Pros: easy to find, comfortable, private and not too out in the middle of nowhere (stores within a short drive).
Cons: The biggest and worst complaint is the condition of the hot tub water. It was very bad and gross looking. I sent a side by side photo of 2 glasses of water to the owner, one was tap water and the other was hot tub water. The color of the hot tub water was a brown/yellow and the color of the tap water was the color you'd expect to see. A guest staying with me ended up getting a rash all over her body from the hot tub water. The hot tub was about 90% of the reason to book this place, unfortunately we used the hot tub only once before discovering how nasty the water was. The furnace is too small and/or too old. When we arrived at the cabin, the inside temp was 60 degrees. I adjusted the temp to 72, it took a solid 6 hours to reach 72. Once at 72 the furnace was running almost constantly to maintain temperature....which can be heard from the upstairs bedroom. Overall the cabin is pretty clean except for the cob webs in the corners of the living room area and the mildew shower curtain on the 1st floor. The check out procedures are a little ridiculous. You are given a list of chores to complete before you are to leave the property...which makes me wonder why I'm charged a $130 cleaning fee. There's a strict no smoking policy on the property, which is awesome, however I did see cigarette butts near the hot tub. Overall, our stay was OK. Would I re-book this property? No.

Beautiful area, quiet
We loved the quiet area and the privacy. Beautiful home, everything we needed. Loved the hot tub. The king bed could have been a little softer but we were warm and cozy. Great place to explore other areas and come back to a comfortable home.

Sister Adventure
Beautiful cabin in a great location. Really enjoyed our stay; however didn't appreciate the check-out expectations (wash/dry first load of towels; start a load of linens; sweep the floor, etc. etc.) given we were not able to check-in early upon our request because the cabin was being cleaned. Seems as though the guests are expected to do much of the cleaning. We were very disappointed as the coffee maker didn't work and two of the hot tub jets were not functioning. Overall a very beautiful cabin and we enjoyed our stay.

A Cozy Cabin in the Woods
We had a spectacular experience staying at Hummingbird Lodge. The property was very clean, the decor was cool, the water was hot and the beds were cozy. It felt so safe and private. Hummingbird Lodge had many fun things for us to do. The scavenger hunt and hand drawn property map was so fun for my 6 year old. He explored the whole property! The hot tub was so nice nestled in the woods. We just relaxed in the tub and looked up at the tree canopy. The kitchen was stocked as well all the supplies we needed to enjoy our stay. Everything was very functional and working. At one point we had a question for the owner. I messaged her mid day through VRBO and she called me immediately. She was warm, generous, caring and invested in our comfort. It felt good to be taken care of by such lovely people. There is no doubt we will stay again.

Enchanting cabin in the woods
Great place for our family of 6! The cabin had everything we needed, including a great hot tub off the back deck with a view of the back yard that’s full of tall fir trees. Nice and quiet, can’t see any other homes. Great location, just 20 minutes to the Timberline Lodge area and not far from Hood River and Columbia River Gorge Scenic area. Highly recommend this cabin!

Perfect Holiday of 4 Days
It could not have been easier or better communicating with Stephanie. It always is more comfortable when you know an owner will respond if there's a question....and she did.
The house was perfect for our family, with great beds, a well equipped kitchen, laundry room, and critical heating and air conditioning system

Amazing property, lovely home
The place is perfect for two families. Our kids especially loved playing around the property while we sat on the deck and enjoyed the scenery. We cooked a few meals there and got take out from a local pizza joint one night. Close proximity to grocery store and all your outdoor adventure needs!

Not what we expected
Cabin is beautiful but the location isn’t what we expected. It’s in a small neighborhood and very close to the neighbors and power line towers. You can hear the power buzzing from the front porch. Many trees on the beautiful property of some privacy and the HOT Tub was amazing and hot and clean!! Definitely a bright spot on the property. There is NO cell service for AT&T phones and the internet service is UN-reliable and went out for most of the day until 10pm, obviously at no fault of the property owners. If keeping in contact with your family it will be a challenge at this property. The beds were clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked.

Great place for a family trip
We really enjoyed staying at this property. It was very clean and well equipped. So many dvds and games if you want to use them. And really comfortable beds, we all slept so well. The owners were friendly and helpful. The lack of internet wasn’t a problem as we knew about it beforehand, in fact, it was one of the things we loved! It was a rare time for the whole family to unplug and spend quality time together. We would definitely think about returning.

Very peaceful and relaxing vacation
Dear Stepanie and family:
It was very peaceful and relaxing time we spent there. Especially, my mother-in- law loved so much the house and its neighborhood.
All the work related stress we had in LA were gone as soon as we arrived there.
The house is equipped with everything. Perfect!
Bedrooms are clean and comfy. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean as well.
Only thing we wished was the internet access. However, without having a smartphone the family got together closer. Which was good.
We love Mt. Hood Oregon especially its nature with lots of trees, rivers and fresh clean air.
I hope someday I could have a cabin like Stepanie's in Mt. Hood. :)
Thank you so much for such a wondeful hospitality, Stepanie.
Happy Holidays!
Best Regards,
Sean

Spring break 2019
We very much enjoyed staying at Hummingbird Lodge. It was just the right amount of seclusion & convenience. With abundant snow still on the ground & warming temps we enjoyed seeing the snow melt back a little each day. The place felt private enough to sleep with the windows uncovered at night & wake with the natural daylight. The hot tub was perfect after skiing each day & you can hear moving water from one of the nearby water sources. We spent cozy nights by the fire reading books on the couches. I was skeptical of drinking well water at first, but it was actually good. I wish I could have some everyday...I read it has heath benefits! We loved wandering around the property & noticing all the sweet details. Very good experience!

Tranquil setting. Well maintained and clean.
Beautiful and serene setting! Cabin was very well equipped and the layout was ideal for the seven of us. Plenty of videos and board games especially for young children. Surrounding property is spacious and allows for everyone to wander off and explore.

Beautiful Private Home In A Secluded Setting
This perfectly appointed private cabin was the perfect setting for our weekend getaway. By far the cleanest VRBO/Home Away home I have ever stayed in. The beds and linens were super comfy as well. The perfect setting to connect with great friends while playing games in front of a real log burning fireplace with views of the expansive property. We found the "Welcome Book" made for a great resource for local hikes and food recommendations. This property is a true gem. Thank you to the owners for sharing it with us.

Pristine and secluded mountain cabin
Our family had a fabulous stay here. It was immaculately clean, architecturally beautiful, gorgeous acres with snow and deer and birds. The beds were comfy with soft linens. The bedrooms were all situated nicely so that kids could go to sleep but we could stay up later without disturbing them. The kitchen was fairly well stocked for simple meals. The hot tub was lovely after long days snow shoeing and skiing. Although you are off the cellular grid, you are just minutes from the highway where you can check in with emails etc and the adventures of hikes and slopes are just moments away. We would love to stay here again.

A GORGEOUS House in a dreamy setting!
Wow! You just can't beat spending time at the Hummingbird Lodge. This beautiful home is such a gem. Huge windows, tons of light, lovely decor, extremely comfy beds, and a fully loaded kitchen. Not to mention the stone fireplace, hot tub on the deck, large TV and DVD player and loft filled with books and toys for children. Stephanie and Scott have thought of every detail to make Hummingbird Lodge warm, cozy, fun and extremely beautiful.
I spent time there with three girlfriends, and we simply didn't want to leave at the end of our stay! The hot tubbing under the stars was so peaceful, and the walk we took to the Zig Zag river was stunning. Stephanie and Scott made sure to leave a binder full of ideas for local hikes, restaurants, sports and fun family-friendly activities. They've really thought of everything.
I have to mention a few more things about the decor- the duvet bedspreads and pillows are classy, yet whimsical and bring the mountain theme into the house in a sweet and fun way. The best part though is the absolutely amazing kitchen table that Scott made. It's is so beautiful! We loved having meals and conversations at a table that the owner made with his own hands. I sure wish I could make a table like that!
If you enjoy your stay at Hummingbird even half as much as we did, you will have a fantastic vacation that you'll never forget and you'll most certainly want to go back again. Personally, I can't wait to go back again:)

Lovely home on a magical piece of land - tucked away in the trees!
Our family of three had a perfectly wonderful getaway at Hummingbird Lodge. My daughter loved exploring the magical woods surrounding the house and we felt safe with her wandering knowing the fence helped guide her back. There are artistic touches that we loved -- like the bedspreads, the amazing dining table, the couches. Stephanie was so easy to work with, great communication, fast response time.
We will happily return when we can spend more time exploring the mountain, savoring the hot tub, relaxing away from the bustle of the city! Top marks for Hummingbird Lodge!

Perfect Cozy Getaway! Clean & Well Appointed
Even better than I imagined! Super easy trip from Portland and near all the awesome ski areas. Stephanie was prompt and helpful when booking the stay. The hot tub was a welcome added bonus and the views were like a dream. My family felt so at home. The little details like the bedding and the gorgeous table made the place extra special. It will be our new go-to getaway in the area!

Cozy and comfortable
Thanks for a beautiful weekend of memories for my dad's 80th birthday - the hot tub was so nostalgic for them.... (we figured out the magic button for the bubbles, finally!) The big, beautiful table fit us all and all the food, beautifully. We were sad to have no propane for the BBQ, but the oven worked beautifully for the huge roast my mom brought and cut up into steaks, and the cold of Q'ing outside would've maybe got to my dad, anyway - although he could jump out of the hot tub to tend the steaks! The stars were out, the moon rose through the trees, and when we got too hot in the tub, the cabin was warm and open and thoroughly prepped with beautiful décor, the fireplace was perfect, the space is exactly as advertised. Beds are so comfy. Be sure to print out or take a screenshot of the directions, or simply open the email with them on your phone, so when you lose cell service, you can still navigate there. Easy drive back into Thriftway for more wood and wine and the cinnamon we forgot for the baked apples for the oatmeal breakfast bar! And -- so truly -- the lack of cell service and internet was a blessing for us all. Keep it that way! Walking the property, or the walk along the gravel road to the cows and the creek and amazing view of the mountain and beautiful woods had our phone blipping, so it's easy to check for emergencies. Otherwise, step forward to enjoy the people around you and savor the time together.... It's easy there.

Excellent cabin for a family with kids of all ages
The cabin sits on a very private property in the forest. The kids were delighted to tromp around in the woods right out the door. Within a short walk we saw the local creeks, neighborhood cows, and horses. The deer walked right up to the house - we could have touched them from the hot tub! Inside the house we found everything we needed to comfortably keep house, and the kids delighted in the books, games, and videos. Every evening we watched the Dr. Seuss video with a crackling fire in the living room. The 'Sam I Am' songs are still being sung two weeks after coming home.
The cabin is easy to get to on well maintained roads, and is close to so many hikes, creeks, and attractions we had to narrow it down to a few standouts for our trip and save some for our next time on the mountain.
Overall, this was our best VRBO experience in ages and we look forward to coming back again next fall.
