Wonderful time for 4 family units (12 people total and 3 dogs). The house was clean and comfortatble with plenty of space. We had a blast playing games, watching movies, sitting around the fire ring and of course playing in the pool. The house has plenty of space for dining together; as well as, splitting off for late game nights and tv watching without disturbing those wanting to go to bed early. Constructive criticism: the gates around the fenced in area needs repaired and closed off by the stairs to the deck to be completely secure for dogs, a larger fridge or second fridge, more than 4 dishwasher tabs (we did requst more, but they were not received), and a keyless entry...either way though, we still hope to return!

Love the location and all the available space inside this chalet. Lots of extras! Everyone had an awesome trip even with rainy weather!!! Hot tub appears to have a slow leak but wasn’t an issue and was nice and warm.

The Chalet was the perfect space for bringing together three generations of family from three areas of Ohio for Easter weekend. From greenspace for wiffleball games and Easter egg hunts to the pool table, hot tub, and private pond with canoes, we made plenty of memories and hope to make it a yearly tradition. The clean, spacious, and well-stocked home comfortably accommodated us -- Thank you!

The overall stay was decent. Was not too pleased with hot tub being moved to a no privacy area(photo online showed different location) and not being properly cleaned, refilled, and sanitized. we found clothes from prior guest on steps to hot tub, so we knew it was not touched prior to our stay. The Hiker Cafe menu is out of date and out of items listed for sale. Cable tv in Nelsonville leaves something to be desired. The pool table had a big gash in the felt , and needed replaced to play a proper game of pool. Was not same pool table in the online listing. Overall like we said, the stay was decent for the discounted price we paid. Would not stay here at full price unless amenities were up to date and impeccable. To us, that is what makes the stay, the game room and hot tub. We own businesses and when we come down to stay we basically stay in and do not leave much. This is the second straight stay at a bigger lodge type setting where the pool table and the hot tub were in poor condition , and our stay and its enjoyment were directly affected.Check out time of 10 am is too early as well.We have been coming to the Hocking Hills for over 20 years and have NEVER been asked to check out before 11, and we have always been accommodated if we were running behind. Maybe the time of year played a role in how the place was presented, but not sure. Duane and Angela Robbins

Totally enjoyed the hot tub and sauna. House was clean. Bedrooms were comfortable. Kitchen was great for cooking. House was warm even on the nights with single digit temps. Will definitely rent again from First Choice. My only complaint is check in/out is at the store which adds a little time/effort instead of being able to just arrive at the rental.

We had a great stay. Spacious cabin with all you need and a fun property for the kids to explore!

I was a bit worried by some recent negative reviews, but I shouldn't have worried! The hot tub and sauna both worked perfectly. (There's detailed information in the printed house guide if the hot tub is not working.)
This cabin is large and sprawling and exactly as advertised. There are trails to walk on and a pond / lake to fish or canoe in.
It's not a perfect place, but these are really minor quibbles:
- The ice maker doesn't work
- The fireplace isn't operational, at least this year
- Some of the beds are up a very narrow spiral staircase, and there's no bathroom up there
- The property is about a 20-25 minute drive to the major Hocking Hills attractions, so it does feel somewhat remote. It's about a 10 minute drive to the small town of Nelsonville. (Check out the historic downtown block, with unique stores such as New Leaf Marketplace and Mountain Mystic Gift Shop.)
But none of these detracted from our stay. And I think the price is right for a place that holds so many people. The property manager was very responsive, the hot tub is excellent, and the place was very very clean.

We enjoyed ourselves very much. The House and property is beautiful, but the fireplace wasn't able to be used; the sauna didn't work and hot tub didn't work. It did not ruin our time but we were disappointed. We called for maintenance and no one ever called back or came out. And no one told us at check in that these things were an issue.

My 10 friends and I rented the Chalet for a quick weekend get together. The Chalet provided ample sleeping accommodations and plenty of bathrooms. Overall we enjoyed our stay! Our only complaints would be the overwhelming amount of Asian Lady Beetles (the orange “ladybugs” that we stepped on/saw and the lack of many basic HBAs such as body wash.

Very welcoming and easy check in and out process. Would recommend

We stayed here for our family vacation. There was 11 adults and 5 kids. We had a great time. The fishing pond, swimming pool, and hot tub was well used. We enjoyed the fire pit making smores and hanging out. The view was beautiful and the yard for kick ball was great!!! Only thing i feel would made our visit better wouod be the checking in and out. It wouod be nice if guest didnt have to stop to get the key for check in as well as dropping it back off. Overall we enjoyed our family time.

We had been planning this family weekend getaway since March of this year. We learned last month that my wife is going to require cancer surgery putting more excitement and expectations on this event.
The property is in a tranquil location and has lots to offer: pool, hottub, fishing pond etc. Spotty cell reception, which was a good thing as it got us all off of our devices! The complaints are few but significant. This reservation had been booked for several months and the property mgrs. were aware the size of our group (11). The first issue was that the ice maker was inop. We had to go buy ice for our stay, before we even got bedrooms picked. Secondly the bed sheets in 1 bedroom were soiled/stained, and there was a pair of used underwear left on a balcony. Given the cost of this unit, and the request of departure "cleanup" these things are unacceptable and a more thorough assessment of the facility should be done before guests arrive. There is NO excuse for this lack of preparation. *be advised that should you want a late check out, it's an additional $25.00/hr. WOW!!
Granted we could have contacted the prop.mgrs. but given the late hour of arrival it was easier for us to remedy these situations. It was just an unfortunate situation.

The property was beautiful and clean. This was a getaway mainly to spend time with our kids and grandkids. We cooked most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. The pool and fire pit were very nice and we made good use of them. It was a nice place to get away and spend time with family.

We had a wonderful time on our family trip to Hocking Hills! We spent tons of time in the pool! Being able to fish at the pond on the property was a bonus! The house had plenty of space for us! We also liked that there were 2 picnic tables for outdoor eating!
We did have a few issues with bats and woke up to bat poop on multiple decks. We also had our trash spread all over the front yard because there weren't lids on the outdoor trash cans.
We were impressed with how cool the house was in the midst of the summer. Multiple window units kept it very comfortable!

Despite an unexpected issue, our family thoroughly enjoyed the property. The owner went above and beyond to assist when we had to relocate. He allowed us to continue to use the property amenities including the pool, hot tub and fishing pond. We were traveling with adult children and grandchildren . All 14 of us had a great vacation!

love this house, we had 3 generations together, lots to do and plenty of room. you only need to bring food and personal belongings, the dock by the lake could use a littlework and maybe a gate so the dogs can"t escape. we will be back again.

We had a great time at Chalet! We enjoyed fishing, swimming, playing pool, grilling out, hot tubbing, sauna, and much more! Hope to go back again!!

We stayed at the Chalet in 2022. The improvements to the Chalet in 2023 were well thought out. Relocation of the hot tub closer to the pool was very nice. The installation of steps down to the pond was a bonus for me as I need to use a cane. Grandkids enjoyed good fishing results. Some new furniture was also bonus. We will be staying with 1st Chioce Lodging again.

Very clean and so much to do right on the property. We had an amazing time!

The Chalet was perfect for a pre and post graduation weekend. Our family had plenty of space to be together and private time. The Chalet was clean with all the amenities of home. I highly recommend the Chalet!

Used this location as a venue for a family get together and wedding. Everything was clean and the property is massive. My only points of criticism is that it seems a little difficult to get answers to questions from the property manager. Took multiple attempts over a couple weeks to get answers to many of my questions, but ultimately I was supplied with the information that I needed.
4.5
The house was spacious, clean, & well-equipped. Unfortunately on the day of our arrival a huge windstorm knocked out power for our first 2 nights. While this was out of management's control, I would have appreciated them reaching out to us. I called within an hour of arriving to report that the power was out & requested that management call me back to answer important questions: Can we flush toilets? Can we drink the water? Is there a generator available? Are there flashlights/lanters available?
It would have been nice if they checked on us, answered questions, and/or given us supplies such as water & flashlights.
Once power was restored, we were unable to get the hot tub to heat up. We are unsure if this was due to the storm or had been broken previously.
Management did issue a credit for a future stay, which was generous. But more contact from them during the power issue should have happened. As most of the issues we had were due to the storm, I would definitely stay here again & recommend it to others, but hope management will learn from this event.

My only tiny complaint is having to go into nelsonville to get the key and then drop it off.
Besides that, the place is incredible.

We stayed with 16 people and 2 dogs, and were amazed at how spacious and well laid out the cabin was. It was single digits outside, but the whole cabin was comfortably warm.
Some tips for future visitors: the yard is almost fenced off except for one set of stairs, we brought a baby gate to keep the dogs in. There are only two private queen bedrooms, so large groups like ours will want to think about sleeping arrangements ahead of time. The kitchen worked well for us, but a few people brought coolers to help with fridge space. There is a ton of space in the living and dining areas for extra storage if needed. The hot tub had trouble reaching its set temperature (understandable considering how cold it was), I’d recommend testing it first thing since it can take a while to warm up after figuring out the settings.
1st choice was very helpful with questions leading up to our stay, and on the first night when we called to make sure the main fireplace was still okay to use.
This was an amazing place to stay in winter, and I imagine it’s also fantastic in summer given the pool and pond we were admiring from the backyard. We‘d be delighted to stay again, and perhaps make a tradition of it in years to come.

The Chalet was just the right size for my family to enjoy our annual get-together. We had plenty of room for everyone! I would love to stay here with family during warmer weather. Lots of outside things to do, as well.

Great place for a get together for a large family or group.

We had a wonderful time staying at this property and will definitely return. The pool was wonderful and the cabin is so spacious!
4.5
Overall the place was large a spacious. Plenty of individual beds to sleep in. This worked out great for our large group of guys. The fire pit with the pool and hot tub are wonderful. The fishing pond was great for our trip as well. We caught lots of bluegill and a few small bass. The pathway down to the lake is gravel and can be slippery. It could be terraced out a bit with some landscaping logs. Despite not having central air and many portable A/C units the cabin was more than comfortable. If it were my chalet I would do the following. Fix the gates. Most of the gates to the yard are falling off of their hinges with exposed nails and other hazards. Put a railing up around the strange balcony to nowhere. Just below the balcony there is a concrete footing with re bar sticking out about a foot. This is a major safety concern. Oil the doors. They squeak like mad. This drove our dogs crazy every time someone opened or closed the door to the patio. The dishwasher was not properly mounted to the cabinetry. I would not bring my wife and kids here. There are far too many safety concerns for my liking. However, this place is gold for a guys trip. A few minor tweaks and this place would be fantastic.

The 'Chalet' was a great property to spend 5 days at with friends and dogs.
The pool and hot tub worked well the entire visit. The fenced in outdoor area was great to let the dogs run although, as noted in other reviews, there is one entrance to the fenced area that isn't blocked by a gate. Knowing this ahead of time we brought a board to block the opening. It would be nice if a gate was placed blocking this entrance to make the area completely enclosed.
The interior of the house was very nice. All the bedrooms were comfortable. The kitchen was sufficient and the living room area was very nice and fit the entire group. The only quibbles we had was the low light levels in the dining room making for dim eating and a slight sewer smell that came and went in the basement bathroom.
Very happy with this house and would definitely rent again if returning to the area.
4.5
We had a great time. The only major problem we had, was one of the queen beds felt like the springs were coming thru. Since there were more beds than we needed, we just moved to another bed.

We really enjoyed our time in hocking hills! It was a wonderful area with lots to do. I would recommend the tubing trip!

Annual family vacation
Great experience overall. Plenty of room for 8 adults and 7 children. The pool was a huge hit. We enjoyed fishing and canoeing in the pond. Lots of privacy. Close to local attractions.

Beautiful property with great amenities
The Chalet was a great place to vacation! The fully stocked pond was a huge hit for the whole crew. They were able to canoe, fish, and explore the hidden caves around the pond. The pool and hot tub were wonderful and refreshing. Floaties for the pool and life jackets for the pond were even provided. The functional sauna was an exciting surprise! Our whole family spent almost every night around the campfire which was the highlight of our stay. The staff of 1st choice cabins responded extremely quickly to any issues we had. We were impressed! The only criticisms we had were with the amount of people the cabin slept. We had 15 people in our party. There were enough beds for 16 people to sleep, but the layout was not ideal for our group. For example, one bedroom in the loft overlooks the cabin and provides no privacy. We thought maybe it would more accurately sleep 10-12. The chalet is also about 40 minutes from Old Man's Cave and surrounding Hocking Hills parks. There were plenty of parks that were close, which was very nice. However, specifically the Hocking Hills parks were a hefty drive. Overall, we enjoyed the property, and recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway with so many great amenities and an excellent rental company! Thanks for a lovely stay!

Lovely stay
The property was wonderful… We had so much to do and we didn’t have to leave the house. Pool, hot tub, lake with canoes, pool table and plenty of room to reat. Only part I didn’t like was having to pick up and drop off the key in town.

Family Relaxation
Very comfortable and clean with lots of room, plenty of beds and bathrooms. The pool was enjoyed by all and fishing would have been better if there hadn't been a major storm our first night. We appreciated that the owner came and cleaned the pool after the storm. We look forward to coming again. Thanks

Our 5th grade troop of 9 girls and 4 of their mothers had a great time. Plenty of cookware, could have used a few more dinnerware but we managed to do 2 big dinners and breakfasts with all 13 of us. Lots of towels available and 2 laundry pairs. Beds are arranged nicely for adults to sleep in a different space than kids. Only downside was the hot tub seems to have a leak and wouldn't stay filled
