About this house rental
The Space.
Casa Koala is restored by an acclaimed local architect and located in the beautiful Santiago neighborhood just a few blocks away from the lively park and square. This home has a beautiful and open flow all the way through the property. Walking through the large colonial doors, you find a airy, bright and spacious living area opening right into the light-filled kitchen and dining space. Just past that is a patio connected to a shaded courtyard and pool to relax and refresh in after an eventful day in the warm Merida sun. There is a lovely and quiet casita with direct access to the courtyard which is separate from the main house and protected from any street noise to ensure a sound night's sleep. We can either arrange two single beds or one king size bed depending on your preferences. The first floor also has a full bath in between the patio and the pool. The second bedroom is located on the second level above the kitchen and dining area. It has a balcony that looks down onto the pool and has a gorgeous view of the surrounding greenery, including a stunning red flowering tree hanging over the casita. In addition to the balcony, the room also has a private patio for some peaceful alone time and an en suite bathroom.
High speed wifi can be accessed throughout the home and patio. Cable and Netflix access are also provided.
Extras
This property has plenty of street parking available. We also have two bikes that you may use to get around the neighborhood and yoga equipment for relaxation. We provide you with kitchen equipment and appliances including a toaster and coffee machine so that you can fuel up with a satisfying breakfast to start your day. Coffee, creamer and sugar is provided -- no need to run to the nearest mini-mart for these basics. Also, every stay includes four free beers so you start start your vacation immediately upon arriving. Don't worry if you forgot your shampoo because both bathrooms are equipped with their own shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers. In addition to TV and cable there is a PS3 player to play movies or games which is also connected to the house WIFI. You also have a Bluetooth speaker to permit listening to your own music.

We have traveled a lot and stayed in a variety of properties around the world, so we know what you need and want from your vacation property. Allow us to help make your visit to Merida perfect!
Location.
There are many restaurants, shopping, and various entertainment options within walking distance of Casa Koala. You can easily find a taxi on one of the busier streets and we will provide you with a number to call one if you wish. Uber and Cabify are available in Merida.
We will be at the property when you arrive and when you check-out. You will be provided with all of our contact information and will be available 24/7 in case of emergency and also for any questions you might have.
Extra things to note (extra fees).
Deposit: A deposit of $500 is charged and held when the reservation is made to cover any damage during the stay. It will be returned within 2 weeks of departure.
Pet deposit: Small (under 15kg) pets are welcome, but the guest is responsible for all damage caused by their pets and will clean up after their pets. An extra pet fee of $75 will be charged for those guests who want to bring pets.
Electricity is included for stays of 2 weeks or less; and for stays of longer than 2 weeks, no electricity is charged unless the usage greater is USD$3 a day for the 1BR or 2BR homes, or USD$5 a day for the larger homes.
Furniture and décor from pictures may differ. We are always upgrading and improving the look and feel of our property for the comfort and pleasure of our guests.

We had a wonderful stay in this magical property. Convenient to the city centre and such an oasis! The courtyard and private pool was a wonderful place to relax and cool off after a busy day in the heat. The bedrooms were well appointed with comfortable beds. The kitchen was well equipped and with one dinner table in and one out we had choices of where to eat. Everything about the place was immaculate from the front room to the in-suite laundry. I did not want to leave this beautiful home away from home. It was fully equipped with everything we needed, and the design choices delighted me constantly. The king bed is memory foam and very comfortable, and the bed linens were high quality cotton.The kitchen is beautifully -equipped (and we did cook — we hosted some friends for dinner). The pool provides a refreshing dip which we used several times a day even though it wasn't terribly hot when we were there. There is very effective air conditioning in both bedrooms and in the livingroom. There are ceiling fans in every room. The washer/dryer work well. The host left plenty of supplies (TP, bathroom condiments, dish soap, sponge laundry soap, bug spray, towels, etc) for our four night stay.The whole place is a delight for the senses: beautiful tile floors, skylights, high ceilings, light fixtures, wall hangings, ceramics. The furniture is very comfortable. We were met there by Beto, who was super helpful and knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. He set up a whatsapp group with us and another person so we had two people to contact in case of any need. It turned out we needed help when we couldn't figure out how to turn on the oven. We received a response within a few minutes, and a few minutes later, someone came over to show us that we just needed to push the dial in as well as turn it. Overall, our experience was excellent. Don't miss this gorgeous oasis of calm, comfort and beauty.

We loved our stay at this house. It was easy to get to- walking distance from Santiago and the main plaza. We used the bikes on Sunday for the weekly bike ride. I loved d the pool and cooled off in the morning, midday and at the end of the day. My son, his girlfriend, my husband had wonderful sleeping quarters. The staff was so helpful and responsive. And the house was so clean. We didn’t want to leave and stayed an extra night!!!

Outstanding communication!
This is a beautifully renovated property. Everything was very clean and the owner could not have been more helpful in providing the most comprehensive guide book that we have ever received when renting from VRBO. All of the recommendations from the owner were outstanding. Our absolute favorite restaurant was Oliva Enoteca. This would be a great restaurant in any city!

My fiancée and I stayed at Casa Koala for about a month and we DID NOT want to leave! This house is breathtaking, the neighborhood is perfect, pretty much all that you could want and need is in either walking or driving distance (we used the didi app and had absolutely no issues, most rides were no more than $5 usd). There is so much to do in Centro Merida, the host Mike, Becca, and Beto make sure that you have all the information on what’s going on in the city and their favorite restaurants. Speaking of Beto, he’s our new best friend! 😆 He was so helpful, even before our trip, with any plans and questions that we had. He was so kind and so responsive and he set up day excursions for our group. We had issues with our phone service the first day we arrived and had to get Mexico phone numbers; he picked us up in his personal vehicle, took us to a local telcel, and set up both of our phones for us. We also spent our last week in Mexico at a ‘boutique hotel’ in Isla Mujeres that was terrible to say the least, we reached out to Beto for help with finding a shuttle (the hotel was very much off the beaten path) and he was very responsive, even offered for us to come back to the house in Merida until our flight and made sure that we got to our next resort safely. The cleaning and pool service was great.. there’s just not enough positive things to say about our stay, this house, and the service. We will DEFINITELY stay here again whenever we come back to Merida! There’s absolutely nothing negative to say about this house, their service, and our stay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great Property and Location
The pictures don't lie...everything was exactly as described. Truly magical property in a magical city! Especially liked the location (could walk to many interesting sites and restaurants) and the helpful city guide provided by the owners/property manager (Beto). Beto was extremely helpful in addressing any need that we had.

Lovely rental
My friend and I have only good things to say about Casa Koala. It was a pleasure to be greeted by Beto when our taxi pulled up and he did a great job orienting us to the house and neighborhood. The house is well-stocked and so peaceful.
The only drawback is that the pool was too cold to do more than dangle our feet in. I don’t know if there is some kind of chiller used to keep it cold, but it’s really not necessary. Other than that, we loved it!

AMAZING HOME AND SERVICE
This home greatly exceeded our expectations! The home was cozy and comfortable and the property manager Beto was AMAZINGGG!!!!! Everything was so well detailed and communication between us, Beto, and the hosts were awesome! Will definitely consider staying again on our next visit! They provide literally everything for you so no need to over pack! they really helped us in a pinch as we could not find anywhere to stay when we decided to extend our Mexican vacation! Definitely recommend!

Wonderful Casa
Casa Koala is a great place to stay when you want to visit the sites in Merida and experience the Yucatanean cuisine and nightlife. Very quiet area but close enough to downtown. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was everything you needed. Alberto was always available and if you needed anything it was provided in a very timely matter. Becka provided us with the name of a vet for our dog prior to us arriving in Merida which was greatly appreciated. All in all we had a fantastic stay in a wonderful Casa in Merida.

Very private place, great location, well equipped, excellent management
We were pleasantly surprised of quietness and privacy this casa provided. Great location. Lots of thoughts, work and efforts was put by owner(s) to restore a colonial style building and implement all modern features guests from up north use to take for granted. Very well equipped kitchen, all one would need for cooking, all utensils of good quality and in sufficient quantities. Drinking water, coffee (actually same brand from Costco we drink at home), other basic stuff as salt, pepper, etc. Very comfortable beds, quality linens, plenty of towels, shampoo, etc. Great bicycles, used them every day. A dreamy oasis in a wonderful historic city.
Casa Koala surpassed our expectations! This architect designed home was the perfect getaway for us, where we could explore Merida and enjoy a quiet, well appointed casa to return to each day after exploring the Yucatan or a day in Merida filled with fabulous restaurants, leafy plazas, markets and historic cathedrals. The clean, serene rooms with tiled floors, airy ceilings with fans and windows, roof deck patios and courtyard with plunge pool were well used by us, and a perfect place to relax when temperatures were too warm outside. The well equipped kitchen and ice maker were perfect for making home cooked meals and drinks. We have highly recommended this holiday casa to friends and family upon our return, and we would return in a heartbeat!

Charming place on a quiet street near Santiago
Casa Koala is an Oasis in the middle of Merida. A perfect place to unwind and relax from the rest of the excitement that is Merida.
The owner was wonderful with her timely responses and catering to needs and requests. And Berto, the property manager, was there with his amazing personality to get me set up and familiarized with the house while getting me checked in. And he was there to check me out when my stay had to, sadly, come to and end.
The house is beyond adorable and the natural lighting and layout is just amazing. The furnishings are great and the bed was super comfortable, even the pillows were better than the pillows I have at home! Everything was clean and smelled fresh. The pool was great to relax in and cool down after coming back from a day of exploring.
The location is on a quiet street a few blocks from Santiago (great little park with music and food and a supermarket and cinema) and maybe a ten minute walk to Santa Lucia (which is one of my favorite parks in Merida!) along quiet streets. Everything is within walking distance, or you can use the provided bicycles at the casa! The neighbors were all very nice and it was very quiet for a city house. No bars nearby or loud parties. Just the occasional dog bark or bird squawk or a car occasionally driving by. Most of the time I had the front doors open to let the breeze flow through the house and there was no noise that ever bothered me.
I had to catch an early morning flight and Berto had a taxi scheduled to come and pick me up bright and early. (There's also Uber, but not being familiar with it I chose the taxi route.) No problem. Every experience I had was a great experience, minus the part where I actually had to leave, of course.
But, I will return to Merida again in the future and I wouldn't hesitate to stay or recommend a stay at Casa Koala. Top notch!
