About this house rental
Casa Mar is one of 6 simple homes built in our tiny Pueblo at Playa Ballena. Along the main entry road to the Marina Ballena National Park-Playa Ballena is where these homes are located. These are affordable homes located within 600 meters of the tranquility and beautiful natural surroundings of Playa Ballena (Ballena Beach). It is a simple stroll to uncrowded beaches. And access is easy with a 2wd vehicle!
Casa Mar is the largest of the homes consisting of 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, a kitchen, dining room and living room. We just finished remodeling the home and it has high speed WiFi, tiled counter tops, entirely new bath, new furniture, 5 new ceiling fans, washer and dryer and full hot water throughout the home. There is a large front porch and huge private, covered deck at the rear of the house.
This home is ideal for a few night stopover in our tropical paradise or as a longer term rental for those looking to enjoy life here in Costa Rica. Stays of a week or longer will really enjoy the upgraded interior, washer/dryer and large patio and deck for additional sitting spaces. As the windows are wooden frames with screening throughout, we have installed a secured lock box for assuring security of valuables during your stay.
For larger groups, or even more budgeted oriented travelers, a second home consisting of 2 bedrooms and 1 bath may be available within the Pueblo.
You will enjoy your stay at Casa Mar and the beautiful Southern Coast of Ballena from Dominical to Ojochal. This home located perfectly in Playa Ballena, less than 1 minute to the main highway and then 5 minutes to either Uvita for shopping or Ojochal for it's culinary delights!
Nearby every Costa Rican adventure and activity is available. You can arrange a trip to the incredible and most bio-diverse area in Costa Rica, Corcovado National Park. Try surfing, stand-up paddle boards, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling or diving, horseback riding, waterfall tours, Zip line/canopy tours, Costa Rica's first and only Superman line, whale watching tours and more.

A good place to stay
The four star rating is based primarily on value for money. The house is very basic but it worked very well for us. It is described accurately in the listing, although you should be aware that the smallest bedroom is a walk-through, and access to the back deck requires walking through the bathroom or around the house from the front. We appreciated the amenities including reliable hot water (but not potable water), reliable wifi, washer and dryer. We very much enjoyed leisurely breakfasts on the back deck, where we could see toucans. Our other morning routines were usually a visit to the howler monkeys, who were staying in a tree 50 m down the road from the house, and watching the cows come down the path behind our porch, herded by a friendly farmer each morning. The beach is approx a 4min walk down the road to the national park gate (you will probably see brilliant blue morphos as well as the howlers on the road). A 5 min walk via the field in back takes you to a less populated beach, which is beautiful, and walking north for 10 to 15 min (at low tide) takes you to Arco beach, which is even more beautiful and deserted.
There were some issues with keys and the ceiling fans when we first arrived, but the owners were very responsive and fixed the problems.

Our cabin at the beach
The stay was wonderful. They upgraded us to a two bathroom cabin which was perfect. It even had air conditioning. We heard and saw the monkeys. We would definitely stay again!!

Amazing location
We loved the hospitality of Natalia and the clean, cozy casita. It was a short walk to Ballena Beach and just a bit further to the amazing Arco Beach.
We did not have a car, but the taxi rides to and from Uvita (for shopping or to see the waterfalls) were reasonable.
We would definitely recommend this to friends and family!

Jungle Beach Hideaway
This was the perfect secure and comfortable homebase for my sun and I as we visited our former hometown. A short walk down a jungle road to one of my favorite beaches. I enjoyed waking up each morning to the sound of howler monkeys and birds. The cabin is well equipped with essentials, wifi and AC worked perfectly. The cabins are a perfect mid point between Uvita and Ojochal. Natalia and David are very kind and knowledgeable hosts. We hope to visit again soon.

Great place to stay for a quiet vacation!
A wonderful place to spend a quiet 10 days. It is a short walk to a beautiful and mostly empty beach. Sunsets were spectacular. The house was nice and had everything we needed. However, a few pieces of comfortable furniture for sitting inside or on the deck would have made it even better. Owners were helpful and quick to respond when contacted.

Great location, spacious, nice amenities, accommodating check-in...
Loved being so close to the beach, easy access to many day trips & activities. The open air design of the house & multiple fans made it very comfortable. A hammock would be lovely :). Thanks for a fantastic visit!

. David and Natalia made sure our stay was very comfortable in the surprisingly spacious cabin. Amazing beach full of hermit crabs at low tide and great waves at high tide for swimming and body boarding. Apart from the occasional howler monkeys there was hardly anybody else around on one of the most perfect tropical beaches Ive ever visited.

Perfect getaway from touristy Costa Rica
We just got back from staying at Case del Mar and we truly enjoyed our stay there. Both David and Natalia were extremely kind and helpful, and we couldn't beat the location and its proximity to the beach. It did get hot (we were there during the tail end of dry season, so to be expected), but this was still one of my favorite places to stay on our trip. Our kids loved playing with the local children. We all loved the wildlife and the beautiful sunrises over the mountain.

Loved it!
We didn't stay here long and we were definitely regretting it! It was the perfect location, right next to the beach and tucked away in the jungle. We had plenty of space (there were three of us) and enjoyed the open/closed-in concept. Next time we are in Costa Rica we will be staying here for a much longer period!

Tranquility and Hospitality
My family stayed at Casa La Mar from Christmas to New Years eve. It was exactly as pictured - very peaceful rustic cabin on a private piece of land within walking distance to the beach. The hosts David and Natalia are delightful and extremely helpful and informative. Natalia gave us directions to several interesting places in the area and also directed us to the Activity Center in Uvita to organize activities for our week and that was a great tip.
Note that the house is 'rustic' without A/C and is very open. Staying there feels like you are living at least somewhat like the locals do. They are b building a couple more modern cabins with a/c which will be very nice as well.
The Uvita area is quite nice, and it is convenient to visit many points of interest from there... Mangrove Tour by Serape, Osa Canopy Zip Line and the Uvita waterfall were highlights for us, as well as several of the local beaches. You really need a car if you are visiting this area as it isn't really walking distance to much except the beach and one nice restaurant that is only open for lunch.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend David and Natalia highly as hosts!

Schönes Haus in traumhafter Umgebung
Sehr freundliche Vermieter.

Home away from home
I highly recommend staying at Casa Mar. It's location makes it a great launching point for all of the adventure and restaurants in the area. I think our favorite aspect was having the beach so close for taking a sunset swim. The house itself is spacious and provides everything you need if you are the cook at home type. If not, there are plenty of restaurants and local sodas to grab a bite to eat at, all within a 5-10 minute drive.

Location and comfort
My wife and I just got back from a 2 month stay in this lovely house. It is a great spot very close to Playa Ballena, which is an amazing beach that is very un-crowded and great for swimming. It is common to see howler and white faced monkeys on the walk to the beach. A 4wd vehicle is not needed but a car is definitely recommended. There is a restaurant within easy walking distance which has entertainment once a week. The house has a great kitchen, a large master bedroom with an amazing view and 2 smaller bedrooms. It is a very comfortable and enjoyable place to stay at. The friendly owners live near by and are very helpful if anything is needed. There are lots of good restaurants in Uvita and Ojochol. Uvita has two good grocery stores and ATM's that do not run out of money. This is a real nice house in a great area. I would recommend it to anyone that loves nature, walking and hanging around the beach.
