About this cabin rental
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it."

The Watauga River begins its 60 mile journey on the northern slopes of Grandfather Mountain and flows generally north and west into Watauga Lake on the North Carolina/ Tennessee border. The word "Watauga" is derived from the Cherokee word "Watagi" meaning "beautiful waters" or "whispering waters." This dynamic riparian zone is actually a migration corridor for many varieties of fish, birds and animals and plays a significant role in preserving biodiversity.
During good weather you can explore the river or try your luck at catching a variety of trout such as brook, brown or rainbow. This section of the Watauga River is now privately stocked and is exceptional for fly fishing! ALL fishing is single artificial lure, catch & release only (no live or scented baits or corn please). Fly fishing guide services are available upon request. When it rains, the river rises and the kayakers come out to shoot the rapids.
A River Runs Through It is situated on 2.75 acres with the Watauga River running through the center of the property. The cabin was built of hand-hewn hemlock from Washington State and pine paneling from Watauga County. Access to the property is a tree-lined gravel road that was once a portion of the railroad bed of the Western North Carolina- East Tennessee Railroad.
A circular driveway winds around Rhododendron and welcomes you to A River Runs Through It. On the covered entrance deck you will find plenty of rocking chairs and a limited stack of firewood.
This cabin provides a cozy feeling with hand-hewn hemlock logs and beams, leather furniture, oak floors, area rugs and a stone fireplace with firewood provided. Original artwork and pottery along with track lighting with dimmers accent the main level. A surround sound TV/DVD/CD system with streaming services and SlingTV for regular programming and high speed wireless internet provide entertainment. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. One bedroom with a king size bed, flat screen TV and a full bath with a granite top double sink vanity and Jacuzzi tub complete this floor inside.
Upstairs you will find a large bedroom furnished with antiques, quilts and a flat screen TV, along with another full bath, and the air hockey game room with a Queen sized air mattress tucked in the closet. A cell booster has been added to the home for enhanced cell reception.
Step from the kitchen onto the new deck and use the grill, table and chairs to dine on the river; or enjoy the six-person Hot Springs spa with moto-massage and a fountain. Stairs lead from the deck to the river. Outside is a fire pit for guests to enjoy, as well.
A River Runs Through It is conveniently located near a main artery that connects the ski slopes of Avery County with the exceptional antique shops of Foscoe with the rich history of Valle Crucis with the great dining and entertainment of Boone and Blowing Rock. Several whitewater and fishing guide services are also located nearby.

We had a wonderful time at this property. My husband fly fished for 3 days and was so delighted to catch mostly large/thick fish. The women found nice shopping and plenty of activities to keep
us busy - all fairly close.
Kitchen had everything we needed. Nice coffee pot and toaster for bagels.
Beautiful view off front and back porches. Fire pit and hot tub were both used and enjoyed. TV has nice speakers for surround sound.
The cleanliness of the property was a little disappointing. Basic center of place was clean. Dishes clean, sheets clean and fixtures in restrooms were clean. However, there was dust coating the top of the curtains; thick spider webs in high places; much dust on blinds in downstairs bathroom and the baseboard also had a thick layer of dust on it. There were wet leaves piled up next to unit and around hot tub on patio that were left for us to clean off. We were left a 2 ft push broom that weighed a ton and was hard to push. I reached out to see if a regular broom was available. Office responded to text twice but never heard back from the “team” that was going to help with this.
This is a wonderful property and I would stay again.
The lack of general maintenance of the property is beginning to show on the property. I hope the owner does a site check before repairs become costly.

LOVE THE RIVER

We throughly enjoyed our time in this cabin. The location was easy to get to and 4x4 was not needed on our trip. There are plenty of dishes and kitchen gadgets to cook and prep meals. Location is close to Boone, Banner Elk, West Jefferson, Blowing Rock and ski area at Sugar and Beech.

The cabin was great , it was very clean. The back deck is the selling part of this location . The view is amazing and calming.
I do have a few complaints. It is extremely hard getting in and out of the rock dirt road.. I was also shocked when you first pull in a junkyard looking area is the first thing you see when you turn onto the road. I must say I was a little scared at first about what I had spent my money on. I also felt like all you could smell was marijuana coming into the road , and in the front area of the cabin. However the smell was not in the back area . Not sure what kind of wildlife that would be.
Over all our stay was great , and we were happy with the cabin .

We love this cabin. Absolutely enjoyed our stay again this year. We were able to disconnect and relax while listening to the river flowing over the rocks. We'll be back next year.

The property was nice and the river was beautiful. The back porch cover wasn’t on at the time we were there and that would have been a nice adder. The hot tub lid is veeerrrryyyy heavy and hard to manage. We did have an issue with some bugs in the upstairs bedroom but the property manager was very responsive when notified.

Wonderful stay! The Watauga River was roaring and quite beautiful! It made for a very peaceful experience. I spent a lot of time on the back porch watching and listening to the roaring river! Would definitely stay again. Wish i had brought my fly rod. It was very convenient to Boone. The only surprise was the added $200.00/night fee for renting during “ski season”. It wasn’t until the final step of reserving the house that that extra fee was apparent to me.

The cabin itself was spotless and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with many more items than I expected! The beds were very comfortable and slept well. The hot tub was very clean and we enjoyed it very much!
The cons are that the road leading to the cabin is gravel, narrow, and one car width, with overgrown bushes that scratched my truck and goes past some sketchy-looking homes. The other side of the river is a major road and produces a lot of road noise, I was expecting it to be quiet. I really wanted a fire but there was no wood available, it was raining when we arrived and wood at the grocery store was 12 dollars for a small bundle.

Renting process was extremely easy. All questions were answered quickly and fully. Property itself was beautiful.

Great family vacation. Loved the home. Quaint. Comfortable. Close to good restaurants and activities.

Cabin was great and so was the river setting. Only disappointment was the kitchen appliances were not equal to the cabin.

I’ve provided the owner some recommendations on improving the experience, from better identifying the property as you drive in, to some functional and cleaning aspects of this house. I heard back right away and assume they are taking our advice to heart. The property is on a gorgeous river, the hot tub is relaxing and the master bed is very comfortable.

River cabin!
We loved our stay. The cabin was perfect. Best of both worlds - remote and private, but quick access to many things to do. Our favorite part was morning coffee on the back deck with the sounds of the rushing river!

We really enjoyed this cabin and direct access to the gorgeous Wautagua River! Well stocked and clean as well as suitably located between Boone and Blowing Rock. Only drawback would be the highway noise, more so during the week vs weekend. Thanks for a good stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed this cabin. Having the River right outside the back door (actually down a few steps) was amazing. Our kids could have stayed in there all day. It was so appealing that they were in the River WHILE IT WAS SNOWING! The only thing worth mentioning is, the cabin has a wood burning fireplace. We loved it. But if you don’t like that wood burning smell, and it is not a time of year where you can open the windows, you might want to consider that. We had a great time and we plan to return!

a river runs through it
It was great. The ONLY thing of issue was there was no ice - the ice maker in the fridge is apprarently broken. No bigger, though...IT WAS GREAT. I'll rent it again in the summer.

The property needs some TLC
We arrived and found dried dog poop in the upstairs bedroom on the other side of the bed, and the towels smelled of mildew. The property manager was very kind and a had someone come put to replace the linens and clean again.
The view is wonderful, and the hottub was great. The property does need some TLC though. The dishwasher wouldn't stay latched, and when we went to use the grill it was unusable. It was filthy and rusted out.
It is a place to get away, but could use a deep clean and some updating. (Watch out for the bears. Even though the trash can is chained, it is not chained to the cabin and bears will get into it.)

We absolutely loved our stay. The view and the sound of the river was mesmerizing and relaxing.
Two king size bedrooms with their own bathrooms was excellent.

Best place we have ever stayed!
AMAZING!! The location is to die for. Boys caught 2 rainbow trout in river off front deck within 2 hours of checking in. Close to everything! Clean, well stocked, huge hot tub, great fire pit. Excellent response time from housekeeping when we identified we needed more towels!
Can’t say enough great things about this place. We will be back!

This was a great cabin for us and our two boys 8 and 10 years.
We had a great time hiking at nearby places. While at the cabin the boys loved jumping rocks on the river, playing air hockey and making a fire. The hot tub was great too! Cabin was clean and had many amenities. We would stay there again!

Great cabin
Very nice cabin to stay in. I would definitely stay here again. The river is beautiful! I only gave 4 stars because I didn't realize the highway was directly across the river from the cabin and you can hear the traffic at all times. Also the 1 lane dirt road was a little tricky especially if you came up on another vehicle. Other than that, we had a nice trip, the hot tub was amazing! Cabin was clean and stocked. We are very happy with our experience.
