What a peaceful place, juicing oranges everyday felt like drinking the sun, striking views of the ocean, Maui, and the stars, absolutely loved the outdoor shower.

To describe this place, with Donna and Kevin as the amazing host they were, feels near impossible.
I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Big Island for a week and staying on this property could be the highlight of my own trip. So cozy, so privately mine, so beautiful.
I highly recommend staying here and meeting Donna and Kevin because they were so helpful and wonderful and communicative to help me have the greatest week.
Best recs from the hosts: Snorkel at Mahu Kona (best snorkeling I had all trip), drive up to Pololu and stop at Fresh Off The Grill for a poke bowl/nachos and then hike down to Pololu and sit and listen to the waves roll through the black rocks.
Wow. Big Island is such a special place and so is Donna and Kevin's property. Please please please get out there and stay with these wonderful hosts and their dogs.
Catch the sunset and say hi to the neighbors mini horse.
Missing this place every day and plan to return!

Staying at Donna and Kevin's place was amazing. Its out of the way, quiet and scenic, feels like a real get-away. I traveled with my 10-yr-old daughter and Kevin picked lemons and oranges with her in the backyard. A very memorable experience for her.
Very much an outdoor feel, yet very cozy. A great home base to explore the north island. Hawi has a great local vibe on Friday nights :) We would definitely stay here again!

This property is a living botanical garden, replete with fruit trees and lovely plantings. Hosts Donna and Kevin have built a delightful, peaceful haven overlooking Maui across the channel. Not everyone wil enjoy using the outdoor toilet especially at night, but we didn’t mind, and the outdoor shower was a big hit with us! We had everything we needed for our 3 night stay plus had lots of advice from the hosts re local activities and resources. The location is not walkable to town but is about a ten minute, pretty drive there. We would stay here again!

Genuinely nice folks Kevin and Donna. I really appreciated their special customized touch to the accommodations which included a cozy bedroom and separate kitchen dining area. Bathroom and shower is outside in a garden area. Could use more lighting for walkway to bathroom area and maybe a dedicated umbrella. It’s generally quiet and peaceful giving one an immersive experience of the Hawaiian countryside. I really enjoy the occasional rain which is nice to sleep by.

It is unlikely you will ever stay at a more beautiful, private, picturesque place on the big island at this price. Driving into the property, I simply could not believe how gorgeous the gardens were, nor the views across the orchard to the ocean and on to
Maui. Breathtaking. All of which makes it so surprising that the accommodation itself is so funky, lacking in aesthetics and simple comforts (eg, a bed light to read by or any light to find the outdoor toilet). The bed itself was comfy and there were ample towels & beach chairs. Grateful to host for jumpstarting car battery!

We used this place as our home away from home while we explored the island for a week. Its location, combined with very gracious hosts, made our experience unforgettable. Don’t miss the little coffee shop in Hawi. They make excellent Kona cold brew and the Thai tea ice cream was delicious! Thank you, Kevin and Donna!

Unique Relaxing & Quiet
It was wonderful to share Kevin & Donna's lovely property with its outstanding views. We were even treated to a rare sight of snow on Maui's Haleakala across the 70 mile channel during our stay. The quiet upscale neighborhood was a very pleasant shift from our previous visits to the busy Kailua Kona area. It's much more fun to try and identify Hawaiian birds than waste time in traffic! We already knew our way around from 6 previous visits to the Big Island, so we just loaded up the beach gear that they provided and headed to our favorite spots. We soon found out snorkeling in the winter is not that great due to storm surge, but there's always some place safe to swim. You might have to drive 20 to 30 minutes though. Listening to the Humpback whales sing underwater was worth the drive!
Groceries at Takata's in nearby Kapa'au are about a 4 mile drive, the prices are reasonable and selection o.k.
The cottage with its separate buildings for the bedroom & kitchen worked fine for us.
The need to use the outdoor toilet in the middle of the night takes a bit of getting used to (we're in our mid-60's) but the on demand hot outdoor shower was FUN.
We would definitely recommend this property for those who like some adventure along with having creature comforts at the same time. Marilyn & Carl Feb.2019

Beautiful surroundings. Peaceful place to get away.
We enjoyed our stay at the aloha cottage. It is way up the side of the mountain behind Hawi. It gives you a beautiful view of orchard, pasture, ocean and on a clear day, Maui. It is about 20 miles to Spencer Beach and Hapuna Beach. Kapa'a is great if you want to sit on the shore and watch the waves crash on the rocks. We love the North end of the island.
Kevin and Donna are wonderful hosts. They gave recommendations on things to see and where to eat. They were there when needed and gave you space when appropriate. We would be happy to use this cottage again.

Donna and Kevin have provided a perfect little slice of Kohala paradise. Rain or shine, this ohana is a wonderful retreat for us to recharge, reboot and restore ourselves. We're saddened that our schedule is such that we have to head out today. Otherwise we'd like to have remained for a longer visit. Thanks, Donna and Kevin!

Incredible Stay!
This is the second time we’ve stayed at this property and it definitely won’t be the last. Donna upgraded us to the suite as this unit was taken, and it was awesome! Donna has put a lot of effort and love into making this property beautiful, comfortable and stocked with everything you need. You are surrounded by rolling pastures, fruit trees, curated tropical flower gardens, birds and serenity. You can see the beautiful Pacific ocean in the distance. I slept on average 10+ hours a night here because it is so peaceful and quiet. Her place is just a short drive from town where there are restaurants, shops and an awesome farmers market every Saturday morning. I recommend both of her properties 100%. Thank you Donna for another incredible stay!

Lovely stay - great location for hiking and beaches!
We loved the privacy and views of this stay amidst delicious citrus trees, which super helpful and warm owner, Donna, encouraged us to enjoy as our own. We liked the location - close-ish to some great hikes but also in easy reach of the kohala beaches. Warmly recommended!

An amazing cottage set in lush landscaping with incredible views! A destination experience!
This is an extremely well thought out little cottage. A very comfortable stay on a property that has been meticulously landscaped so there is always beauty surrounding you! The views are amazing from this property (and it was cloudy!). It is worth a leisurely stroll just to view the botanical garden-like vegetation. The outdoor bathroom was "bali" style and ended up being very enjoyable, though some might find showering outside a bit chilly at times.
The attention to design details for the property is truly worthy of magazine coverage! This was perhaps the best vacation rental place we have ever experienced (and we've rented a lot).
The owners are very welcoming. Wifi was intermittent, but owners allowed use of the main house wifi in laundry room area (the garage of main house). Keep in mind, as this is forested area, you may see "bugs" venture inside. It is not sprayed to death like a resort would be, so don't freak out.

Great visit, there was a power outage and Donna did everything to make our stay comfortable. We would love to return someday!!

Beautiful retreat!
This was a very peaceful and beautiful property and Donna was very friendly and kind to share with us some local beach access points that were incredibly beautiful. We loved the beauty of this area. The cabins were very very clean and the grounds were immaculate. The kitchen and sleeping area were well equipped and comfortable. This would be the perfect place to go to write a book or focus on a project without distraction! If you're wanting to be close to restaurants and shops, this probably wouldn't be the place for you but it's great for hiking and rejuvenating! Mahalo Donna!

Donna and Kevin are caring, helpful, informative, fun hosts!
Our place was very comfortable, quiet, and well-equipped with stunning views in a private, beautifully landscaped setting. Donna and Kevin suggested hikes, beaches, farmers markets, and events we may have missed. We would return in a minute for a longer stay with friends and family! So appreciate all!

You’ll be back for more!
We returning every year. It’s the only one of 15+ Big Island cottages, which we stayed in for the past 5yrs, that we keep coming back to. Quiet, relaxing and wonderful hosts.

A lovely property with orchards and elegant landscaping. Friendly, caring hosts.
Linda and I had a wonderful and comfortable time in Hawi, especially in your lovely spot. The grounds are beautiful and our room and dining area cozy. We enjoyed the orchard and beautiful landscaping, the outdoor bathroom and shower, which put me in mind of my first home in Vermont which had an outhouse whose only protection was a roof on four corner-posts. We were touched by the lovely vases of flowers in the two rooms, and enjoyed a most comfortable bed and the desk under the window where Linda worked on her paintings and journal. We were sorry you were away most of the time as we would have enjoyed getting to know you – next time! In any case, we would recommend your bnb to anyone visiting the area.

Fabulous Place to Stay in Hawi!!!
My stay at Donna and Kevin's property was amazing. It it very comfortable and provides everything you would need. The grounds are gorgeous and the view is breathtaking. It is a great get away from the hustle of Kona Town, but close enough if you need or want to make your way down there. It is a higher elevation and gets a bit chilly , which I very much enjoyed after spending the days at the hot beach. Donna and Kevin were amazing hosts and made me feel right at home. They were also a wealth of information and have all kinds of ideas if you need some inspiration on your vacation. I absolutely loved my stay there and can't wait to go back!!!

Fun, Quiet, Quaint
My time in this sweet accommodations was perfect. The beach is 20 minutes away and the hiking trails are
plentiful. Each morning I would get a fresh orange or grapefruit from the tree in the yard and it was a real
treat for this Alaskan in December! The hosts are willing to tell me about places in the community, like a great
farmers market and some epic local scenic hikes. It was clean and comfy and out of the crowd wonderful.
I really hope to return next year!
