Sharkalope:
Beach, hot tub and retro arcade… need we say more? Our home is a large Oceanfront home originally built in 1925 that sits on a 1/2 acre oceanfront parcel directly in front of the Twin Rocks. We have a large yard and path which connects the house directly to the beach. There are great views of the Twin Rocks from house and the deck, or get closer and hang out on picnic table overlooking the beach. We have a hot tub off the deck and a retro arcade in the basement, with Skeeball, pop-a-shot and retro arcade games.
The 3-level house was remodeled in 2014, but we kept much of the original 1920’s beach house charm. The main house is on the top 2 levels with 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, full kitchen, TV room and great room (living/dining). The lower level apartment has 2 more bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a kitchenette, plus the arcade. The house has a total of 6 bedrooms and 3 baths and sleeps up to 16 people.
Upstairs, on the top floor, there are 2 large bedrooms each with a king bed. The east room has a view of the mountains and west room has a great view of the ocean and Twin Rocks. The 2 upstairs bedrooms also have queen size beds that can be pulled out from under the main beds to sleep additional people. The top floor also has a full bathroom and a TV room.
The main floor has small vintage kitchen, a bathroom with a clawfoot tub and two smaller bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with twin bunk beds. The main floor also has a great room with a large dining table and a living area where everyone can gather around the wood stove and play games or watch the waves crash on the Twin Rocks.
The lower level apartment has two small bedrooms, each with a queen bed, plus a kitchenette with a small dining table. The apartment has a separate outside entrance on the east side of the house, or can be accessed from the main house through an interior door on the lower level arcade room.
Outside the main house front door, facing the ocean and Twin Rocks, is a deck and a hot tub and a private path through our yard leads about 200 feet to a very quiet section of the beach right in front of the Twin Rocks.
The basement has a retro arcade game room. Games will vary and may include Skee Ball, vintage pinball machine, shuffleboard, air hockey, pop-a-shot two player basketball game, Donkey Kong multicade (with 60 games including Pac Man, Dig Dug and many more) and Area 51 2-person shooting game. All games are set for free play, so no need to bring quarters. Please note that some arcade games may not be operational during your stay, these are older games that sometimes break and we can't always fix them right away.
There is plenty of parking, with enough room for about 6 cars.

Overall it is a great house for a big group. The kitchen is small but we made do. The game room was fun for the younger generation. The best part was the access to the beach. The hot tub was wonderful but trying to keep sand out of it was a challenge. I would recommend a way to hose off closer to the hot tub.

The Sharkalope home has a lot of character. It is a charming older beach house with plenty of room for the whole family. I traveled with my 93 year old mother and with only 5 steps to get in and main living on that floor Keith comfortably for her. My adult children and their kids came for a total of 11 for the stay. The arcade room was great fun, especially on drizzly days. The trail to the beach was too narrow and difficult for my mother but it was a short walk for the rest of us and we made so many trips to the beach. Our trip was so much fun and we made wonderful. The hot tub was a nice way to wrap up the days. Rockaway was a fun town to visit. The rest of our family was in a different house. But it was easy to meet up and enjoy the beach together. We lived our stay at Sharkalope.

Such a wonderful, peaceful and happy place. Hard to believe this is a 1925 home as everything is so put together. Perfect blend of sleeping and getting together space. We had 5 in kitchen and we all fit. The spa was an added bonus with the younger group. Having the games in the bedroom and downstairs was enjoyed by all. We will be back!

We had a wonderful time together and what amazing weather at the end of December! It was so warm and sunny on the beach. This house has Great, easy beach access. (No rickety, dangerous steps to climb on). Just walk straight out on a little path and there you are. Super helpful and responsive hosts. And that arcade downstairs is so much fun.
10.0 / 10.0
3 Families (6 parents, 2 adult kids, and a teenager) filled the house. There are 10 chairs for the dining table, but there is space for more. Kitchen seemed small, but it worked We did a full Christmas dinner and didn't feel challenged.
The proximity to the beach makes this a wonderful place to stay if you like watching the tide come in with your coffee. One day, we had a high tide warning, and the water was splashing up on the beach right at our feet (about 200 feet from the house). The park bench near the beach is perfectly located.
The game room is a nice touch, and several of the adults found games they loved. Shuffleboard was a WIN.
The only downside is television. If your group has sports people, you'll be wanting something bigger for your tv viewing. Personally, it's not a problem, as I don't care for sports.
I'm looking forward to our next trip to Sharkalope!

This house was great for us. We had ages from 60-2yrs old staying at the house and it was perfect. With so many bedrooms, the bonus game room downstairs and the beach access was amazing. We would definitely stay here again.

Amazing view and beach access. Small kitchen but usable and the view is worth that sacrifice. Lots of bedroom spaces. Beautiful and unique older home quirks. The extra apartment set up downstairs worked well for us. Great parking and host communication. Wish we had more time to enjoy all amenities.

Perfect house for 5 girlfriends to stay: sitting on the porch for beautiful morning sun on the Twin Rocks, then the gorgeous sunsets. beach walks, wine, cheese, crab and seafood all nearby. Lots of areas to sit and catch up and laugh. Beds are comfy. Hot tub perfect for post beach time. Lots of things provided to make stay a good one. Would come back here again.

Did not stay at Sharkalope since that property was switched due to "double booked" to Crabalope (why don't you know this VRBO?)and although I insisted that the property needed to be wheelchair accessible, and told the host in ALL communications that we needed accessibility, it WAS NOT accessible, in any way, shape or form. Imagine our surprise when we pulled up to the property and the ONLY access was up 10 steep stairs. The bathrooms are tiny, another issue for wheelchairs. There are no railings on the deck(s) and the stairs between the levels/heights on decks are definitely not up to code - it's a miracle someone didn't fall and seriously injure themselves.....and give me a break, "30 seconds to the beach"?!, even a young, able bodied human couldn't make it to the beach in 30 seconds if they sprinted at full speed. The shenanigans between booking through VRBO but payments and communications with StayInRockaway, a completely different company, didn't help. The homes were clean and comfortable enough and the sunsets and weather while we were there were excellent but....
We made the best of it, that's what we do, the Oregon Coast is a magical place.

Multi generational, Steve getting grandparents, kids and grandkids all together. Perfect location, perfect house for a large group. Love the character of the place, loved it. It’s not so fancy and precious. We have to be scared. We will break something. Phenomena location and view. Great hosts. We will be back.

All total there were 15 of us and we never felt crowded. The owner and property managers are awesome, they responded quickly to our enquiries. We would definitely stay again and we highly recommend it to anybody.
We came for a drama free and much needed escape from work and that is exactly what we got.

We enjoyed the Crabalope, but we LOVED the Sharkalope!! Excellent house for families to enjoy common space and privacy. Plenty of bathrooms. Bonus that the television isn't the main attraction in the living room. We read on the couches and played in the arcade. Perfect Rockaway spot.

Very nice beach house with a great location. Kitchen was small for the amount of people that could stay there but was well appointed and had everything we needed. A few of the doors did not shut and you could hear everything from everywhere but worked out well for us with 3 families. Although it seems like the rules are strict, the only issue we had was dealing with our own recycling. But that’s what you get in Rockaway Beach. Lots of toys for kids of all ages- including the adults! Fun weekend away but wish we could’ve stayed longer!

Sharkalope is a great house with an excellent location. There is a lot of room, the beds are comfortable, and the access to the beach is an easy walk for all ages.
My family has an annual beach trip and this is our second time at Sharkalope. We would definitely recommend. Sadie and Rachelle are quick to respond to any question.
We had everything we needed and there were no problems with our stay.
Thank you!!

This large home is ideal for family get togethers. Lots of room, well stocked kitchen, unbelievable location. The entire family from grandma and grandpa to the youngest who was 10mos. The best thing ever was the doll motorhome hidden in the closet…the kids were enchanted and busy immediately.
10.0 / 10.0
We loved staying here. It was clean and well decorated. Kitchen was small but well stocked for cooking (although it could use more wine glasses/silverware, etc).
We were a group of 15, and loved the hot tub and arcade. The TV is not in the main room which we found we didn’t miss. Lots of different spaces which was nice - people could have their own area to retreat to.
Lots of board games and some toys for little ones. Our youngest were 8 so we didn’t pay attention to babyproofing. :)
It would be nice to have a seating area for all 15 to eat together - but that would be challenging given the size of house. We had kids eat at the table and adults sat on couches.
Overall it was great! We also had a few minor issues that the managers attended to promptly, which is always appreciated!
10.0 / 10.0
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with all our children and grandchildren. The house was large enough. Some of the beds were quite noisy from bed springs. But we had enough room and enough bathrooms. Close to beach!
8.0 / 10.0
We loved being close to the beach. The house over all accommodated us ok. The low ceilings up stairs in the bedrooms and stairways led to many head bonks.
We are a family that likes yard games and found it impossible to use the lawn because of thorns.
The kitchen, although small, was adequately stocked with everything that we needed. A little more storage would help for dry good supplies.
(We used the bookcase from the bunk bed room and made it work)
The arcade was a huge hit with the older grandchildren and a dad or two!
Screens on a few more windows would also help.
Again, overall we had a great time at Sharkalope!

Exactly as advertised
The property was just as listed, we had older individuals as well, who couldn’t navigate the stairs well so they were able to stay on the main floor, with plenty of space. The house was stocked with the imenities that were listed.

Family Getaway
We rented the Sharkalope to celebrate my 50th Birthday with the family. Our party ranged in age from 2 to 84. The Sharkalope met our needs perfectly! The bedrooms in the main level accommodated those of us that stairs are challenging for, the two bedrooms upstairs were large and and the beds were comfy. The lower level bedrooms were updated and offered more privacy for those seeking it. The game room kept us entertained on the rainy days! The kitchen is small, but it met our needs as we were able to cook and feed our group of 13. It should be noted that there is one outlet, with one plug in space that is dedicated to the coffee maker so creativity is needed if planning to use another appliance requiring electricity. This is an old beach house that has a ton of character and charm. Part of the charm includes the fact that from the "master bedroom" upstairs you can hear everything that is said in the living room below.
Check in was super easy, the hosts made sure we had all the information we needed. The house was super clean when we arrived. We used the hot tub, it was functioning and nice and clean as well.
While you can't really see the beach from the lower level, there is an amazing view of the Twin Rocks from the master bedroom. Access to the beach was great! Everyone, including Great Grandma and 2 year old grandson were able to negotiate the trail.
The Sharkalope is a great rustic old beach house and it was the perfect place to celebrate my entrance into the beginning of my second half of a century.

WOW!
This house has everything! Private beach access with very few other people. Great views of Twin Rocks. Great beach combing. Made an amazing fire on the beach for S'mores and stories
The hot tub was perfect. Even with a mist of cold rain on your face. You can hear the ocean.
When the rain was heavier, the game room was a HUGE success! The board games and cards also made us happy.
We loved the two kitchen areas. The main kitchen is small but it had everything we needed to cook. Fresh beachy colors. Plenty of cookware. Including an extra very nice large toaster oven. Hot plate and small appliances. Nice dishwasher. Plus a Kuerig and a nice larger regular coffee pot.
Bedding was very comfy along with all the mattresses. A queen bed rolls from underneath each king. Pretty smart. The 3 other queen rooms are small but have everything you need.
We brought our own beach blankets and towels. But had plenty of linens for the house. Plus a nice large tub washer.
We had 4 couples 4 singles 1 child and 1 old dog. Everyone had a bed and room. For outings and supplies, we did not have to go over 5 minutes away. Visited the Ceder Wetlands Preserve beside the Welcome to Seaside sign. Breathtaking and magical! Then the beautiful Three Graces at low tide. Great grocery store with a surprisingly fresh selection. The Sand Dollar has amazing cocktails and prawns. And of course, a trip to Flamingo Jim's for souvenirs and such. You just cannot beat this beach house location for so many things to do or nothing at all but the amazing house!

Quirky, clean and fun!
We really enjoyed this property. There was plenty of room for everyone to gather in the main area and also enough bedrooms to that people could escape and take naps. We were very pleased with your great bbq. Loved the arcade, hot tub and the easy assess to the beach. It was every thing you advertised and so much more. Thank you! I hope we can come back another time.

VERY DIRTY, SMELLY, NASTY, UNCOMFORTABLE, AND RUDE.
I would not waste my money on this dump. I realize it is a beach house, but we found old garments laying around, dirty toilets, showers, nasty oven, barbeque pit hasn't been cleaned in years, and the place in general hasn't been kept up at all. They clearly put all the money in their pockets instead of back into the house. Very sad to see this place go to crap. The owners said that they would return the cleaning deposit at least. This was and still is a lie. The owner was very rude as well. Took days just to get back to me. She told us that we could just leave and I was like how are 9 people for 9 nights supposed to just pack up, find another place on a dimes notice, and find another place after paying over 5000 for this way over priced place. It takes days to get your money refunded back to you. I don't even trust that she would of anyways since she can't even pay us the cleaning deposit she promised us. The basement is so nasty with so much mold it is very unsafe. It smells so bad you can't even play any of the games. We didn't play one day of games. This was one of the reasons we even got this place. Oh yeah, the hot tub was really dirty and nasty. I could go on and on, but you get the point. I would definitely look around for a nicer and less expensive place. We sure regret staying in this dump for all the money we paid. We actually left it cleaner than when we arrived. Oh yeah, make sure you bring your own TV's with Rokus. They are too cheap to put a TV in the living room. I had to buy one or we would of went mad at night. Stay somewhere else. I know we learned the hard way. Way overpriced, dirty, rude, and just nasty. Oh yeah, the two beds are like 1900 spring mattress. Our backs still hurt from that experience. Bring your own foam beds as well. Not a fun experience at all to say the least. You've been warned.

Wonderful
Had a wonderful time. House was perfect, large and accommodating. Beach access great. Would be nice to have enclosed fire in yard. Also would be nice to have yard without pokies. Hot tub great asset for chilly evenings. Highly recommend.

Perfect location
The house was wonderful. But be aware it’s a old home with very little insulation between floors and floors are very creaky so it was hard to get up early without waking everyone. But the game room is awesome for kids. Location to beach can’t be beat.

Quick walk to beach through trail
This home is a beautiful old historic beach house with a mix of antique and modern amenities. Hot tub was great. Can see twin rocks through one upstairs bedroom window but cannot see the beach from the home. We had a great stay. All of the arcade games were working and fun and the house was clean on arrival.

Rockaway Reunion
We definitely had some hiccups with renting this fun and funky house. VRBO couldn’t process our payment and application. Ultimately, the owner was able to sort it out.
When we arrived, the house had not been cleaned. Again, contact with the owner got it handled. We waited for the crew and checked in after a couple of hours delay. It was not deep cleaned but we were able to go ahead with our family reunion.
The house is fun and funky. The beach is terrific and we had a great time being together with our children and grandchildren post vaccine.

Disappointed
We chose this home due to the arcade in the basement. Most of the games weren’t working. The house itself was clean. But the price we paid for the house and being required a 3 night minimum we left after the second night. My kids had more fun out on the beach then in the house. Also the hot tub wouldn’t let you adjust the temperature we had to leave the top off in order for it to be cool enough to even use. Needless to say disappointment is an understatement. We won’t be back.

Anniversary at the Beach
My wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary here and we had a blast at the beach, given the excellent location of this property. The views of the beach, waves, and the Twin Rocks from upstairs bedroom were stellar. We obviously did not need all the space; however, the home has a hot tub, which as a requirement for the trip. A wonderful place to rest, relax, and recuperate any time of the year!
