Always such a wonderful stay at the lake! Thanks again and see you next year!

We had a great time at the little lake house. It was the perfect size for our family of four. I have two teenagers and they loved fishing and hanging out on the dock.
The kayaks were also great.
The weather was not great but. We took advantage of the nearby winery’s and state park

This was a lovely little house right on the lake. My favorite part was the sunroom that goes all along the side facing the lake. You can even sleep in there with the windows open (sort of like glamping!). If you are looking for a quiet neighborhood to enjoy some time on this beautiful lake, then I would recommend this listing.

This place was exactly what we were looking for, a quiet place to spend a few days with the family. We enjoyed kayaking, swimming and making s'mores. Great place for a family vacation!

This was the first major stop on our family roadtrip and it was just right. The host, Wes, was the BEST, checking in with us prior to our arrival and ensuring we had the latest information. The house had plenty of room for our family of 5 to stretch out and relax, and came equipped with everything we needed to feel at home. The lake was the highlight for us. My husband and I loved just relaxing in the Adirondack chairs listening to the water hit the shore. Our kids (ages 15-20) enjoyed the kayaks and had a great time on their “adventures” together.

A beautiful stay right on the water. Communication was great with host, clean. A beautiful lake front property that I would stay at again

We and our 11-year old granddaughters had a great time in this comfortable cottage on the lake. We played games in the spacious enclosed porch and had great fun kayaking and swimming. We hiked in three of the state parks which were within a 30-minute drive and shopped at the well-stocked grocery in Trumansburg. “Best vacation ever “ according to our granddaughters. Our host Wes quickly responded to questions and we enjoyed chatting with him.

Brought a giggly group of teenage girls here to relax after the stressed too much over final exams. Simple lake front house in nice condition, exactly as advertised, in a fabulously beautiful spot -- slept with the windows open to listen to the waves, and kayaked in the morning calm, with easy hikes even from the property and the state park a short drive away. Only excitement was the scream of a teenage girl when she found the mouse in the kitchen late at night... house was nicely clean but it is of the age where a mouse is not unexpected.

If you want lakeside - this cabin is lakeside! It was wonderful, just a few feet off the lake with a lovely dock and kayaks. My boys spent plenty of time skipping rocks and playing in the water. We didn't have a chance to use the fire pit, but the set up was lovely. I also loved listening to the waves hit the shore at night. It is about 20 minutes outside of Ithaca (just above Taughnock Falls which we visited and is wonderful) and 30 minutes from Cornell. The house itself was clean and comfortable - could be considered a little "dated," though that was just fine for us. If you are looking for chic modern with fancy amenities, then keep going. But for a wonderful lake experience, this place delivered. Would definitely stay there again!

Canvasback Cottage is a very comfortable lakeside retreat in a terrific location—a short drive to a decent supermarket, an excellent soft-serve ice cream stand, the charming town of Trumansburg, and lovely Taughannock Park. It’s also conveniently close to Ithaca. The furnishings and decor are appropriately “cottage-y." While not luxurious, the place has everything you need—ample kitchenware, good appliances, cozy furniture and low lighting. The infrastructure has been recently updated, so everything works. Beds are quite comfortable. The big attraction, of course, is the lake, and the cottage’s front sunroom with its wrap-around windows is the best feature. You almost feel that you’re on a houseboat! We also appreciated the pleasant dock (despite the obstacle at its center—a large bulky storage shed that blocks the view and cramps access to the far end). Use of the two kayaks was a real bonus. It’s an easy paddle to peaceful Frontenac Creek, where we explored the diverse bird life and lake-scape there. The property owner, Wes, responded promptly to all of our questions and he offered to be on call for any problems or trouble-shooting (though we didn’t need to take him up on that offer). In short: I highly recommend Canvasback Cottage. We are already contemplating our next stay there!

Great secluded lakeside cabin close to many hikes and wineries

It was a fantastic stay. the property has one of the greatest location if you want to enjoy secluded time. This is right on the lake. i think once the boat house and other bathroom gets renovated it would be a great place to stay for a week in peace within the surroundings of nature. Wes himself was very approachable and always ready to help. We had a great time while there.

This is our second time staying at Canvasback in autumn. This is essentially a cul-de-sac of three houses at the end of a dirt/gravel road. Very quiet and literally right on the lake. The stairs make it a little challenging loading and unloading the car, but otherwise we don't see them as much as an issue (we are both in our 50s). We find the house to be comfortable and as expected from the listing. Bathroom was recently renovated. We love the sunroom and would eat breakfast there each morning looking out over the lake while watching the seagulls, ducks, and loons. It is peaceful watching the sunrise from the dock or sitting by the firepit at night. It is within driving distance of many places such as Ithaca and Watkins Glen. Some of our favorite places in the area: South Hill Cider, Garrett's Brewing, Liquid State Brewing, Six Mile Creek Vineyard, Brookton's Market, Cornell Botanic Garden, Taughannock Falls Sate Park, Cascadilla Gorge Trail, Robert H Treman State Park, and Watkins Glen State Park. Thank you, Wesley, we enjoyed both stays here!

We found the cottage very comfortable, clean and accommodating. Wesley was extremely helpful and communicative. The property was nicely appointed and the views are amazing. We would rent here again for sure.

My family enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Beautiful views right on the lake and close to the waterfalls we wanted to visit. My kids enjoyed swimming in the lake, kayaking and fires at night. We would definitely come back again.

House has everything you need and even more.
Kitchen is fully supplied. Outdoor grill works perfect. Grocery store 5 min away. Lake is so clean and warm. Two kayaks big benefit to the house. We will definitely going to come back with friends next time

Beautiful lakeside retreat! Loved the kayaks and views!

Important information is misleading in the property description. The 1/2 bath is not attached to the property and is a non functioning outhouse. The water is non-potable or “you shouldn’t drink the water”. The owner provided these details at check-in. We would not have rented the property had these details been made at the point of decision-making - and included in the property’s details. There are plenty of options out there! The owner provided one gallon of water for 3 adults for 4 days….disappointing at best. The rest of the description is accurate.

Great being at the lake

Comfortable and clean cottage on the water with a dock, firepit, and kayaks. A+

Happy to be back lakeside for a few days. We enjoyed sitting by the water, swimming and kayaking. And we saw an otter swim by. We read they have released otters into finger lakes and we’re delighted to see one swim by.

Right on the lake and close to hiking, parks, Ithaca and Trumansburg- fantastic spot. Relaxing time

Great location, clean rooms, and nice remodeled bathroom! We enjoyed the lake view from the sunroom and spacious deck everyday!

Wine and waterfalls. Easy access in multiple directions. Wonderful setting to come back home to for relaxing.

We really enjoyed our stay at the property. Close to Ithaca if you are visiting Cornell or IC, right by Toughannock falls for hiking and dinner, and close to wineries. Right on the lake, the cottage is quiet, and rustic, but clean. New bathroom was a great addition. Wish we had more time to enjoy the place.

Perfect for a long weekend with family for a college graduation! Great communication with owner and clean accommodations. Beautiful location right on the lake ~ Highly recommend!

The location is great, right on the lake. The view from the bathroom window took my breath away in the morning...all water. The place feels like its out of another era, reminds me of my grandparents place back in the 70s, but it's quite comfortable. I love the glassed in porch! It was very hard to find in the dark. We ended up in another cabin up the road, thinking it was this one (it was unlocked, and we just walked in).. The owners saw us and very politely explained we were in the wrong one!!! Very embarrassing, but we ended up giving them a bottle of wine after they led us to the right one.

Super pretty spot… would stay again!

This is a unique and cozy cottage that will always be on our family travel list… Thanks again Wes!

Spectacular location- both for staying in and enjoying the lake in peace and quiet, or for going out and exploring the finger lakes and all they have to offer. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking (we saw 2 osprey, I believe), playing board games, relaxing by the fire pit and enjoying family meals outside on the deck. We also explored a new gorge everyday, sometimes twice a day- so many state parks and Ithaca are so close, as well as a bounty of wineries, breweries, and distilleries. It’s truly the best of both worlds- being so close to everything and also feeling removed from the world and all your cares! We also had great service from nearby Cayuga lake boat rentals for pontoon boat rental. I highly recommend this camp, it is 100% as advertised. It is not updated by any means but it had everything we needed and I have nothing but good things to say about our stay!

We had an amazing family time in this cabin. The house is very comfortable. My 3 kids enjoyed the lake and the kayak. We 100% recommend this place.
4.8
Stayed here mostly for fishing and exploring the surrounding area a bit. Though the dock is large and plenty stable, docking a boat here isn't ideal - if bringing a boat, I would recommend getting a transient slip at the state harbor nearby (we did this for the second half of the week). Other than that, take it slow on the gravel road leading to the property and you will enjoy a great time at a nice, homey (if not state-of-the-art) place in a terrific location.

This cabin was lakeside and had beautiful views of Cayuga Lake. It was very peaceful sitting outside and watching the herons and other waterfowl on the lake. There is a boat house deck with seating for outdoor dining and two kayaks to paddle the lake. While the neighboring cabins are fairly close, they are separated enough that you don't see or hear those in residence. The kitchen was not overly modern, but everything worked. The house is close to many activities - Cornell Univ. in Ithaca, the waterfalls and hiking trails at the state park, as well as several wineries. There is one drawback for those not physically able to do steps - there are at least 50 steps to walk up and down from the parking area to the house. The owner was extremely responsive to our questions and seems to be a responsible owner. We would definitely stay there again.

Great location, awesome lake view and comfy lake house for your family to enjoy.

The property is everything expected. Even though the decor is cabin-like, everything is very clean! The dock, kayaks, fire pit and outdoor seating options were the highlight of this property to us. Beautiful sunsets every night too! The owner is very responsive (like minutes) for anything you need! Would rent again.

We enjoyed our stay and my kids loved to be able to swim & play in the lake every day, and having use of the kayaks at the property.
The location was perfect for us, and the accommodations comfortable, with all the basics that you need. We did realize on one of our last days that some critters were getting into food in the pantry, so it would be good to remedy that for future visitors, but other than that we had no complaints.

Awesome place
We loved our stay here! The place is clean, well maintained, and best of all right on the water. It's a great escape and had everything we needed. It's pretty secluded but wineries and Ithaca are all within about a 20-minute drive.

Beautiful, well kept property
Excellent location, very quiet, and plenty of space for our group of 5. Very impressed with cleanliness of both the building and the outside area. It's clear the owner takes pride in ownership. Would definitely return for another stay.

Perfect little getaway
We’ve stayed at this lake house in the 80’s and now and still love it! Has everything needed for a lakeside getaway. Wes always responds immediately and we enjoyed the updated dock, A/C and the new stairs down to the house. Great place!
