About this cottage rental
Welcome to Halcyon Cottage, our updated lakefront cabin that provides the unbeatable combination of lake + wine country living! The word “halcyon” (HAL-see-on) denotes a period of time that is idyllically happy, peaceful & carefree. We hope that your visit here is a halcyon time for you!
The proximity to the water here just can’t be beat, as the house abuts right up to the edge of the lake shore itself. A waterfront deck that just invites lakeside lounging is shaded by a beautiful established poplar tree. You’ll be drawn out here all day long, whether it’s to watch the lake come to life in the morning, to bask in lake breezes & the sound of the waves while picking out forms in the clouds, to marvel at the colors of sunset reflecting in the water, or to contemplate the stars and vastness of the universe. Rent a motorboat locally for the day or bring your own. Located at a very wide & deep part of the lake, the fishing is great here, and there are even some boat-accessible wineries! In the cold season, cozy up in front of the fireplace!
If your desired travel dates are already reserved on Halcyon Cottage's calendar, or if you need another cottage for extended groups, you may want to take a look at our other cottage (Pura Vida Cottage, VRBO#809940), located right next door! Pura Vida is well established and its enthusiastic reviews & many repeat guests should give you a good idea of how we manage both of our homes - you can book either property with confidence!

Additional description: Drive right up to the flat parking area at the water’s edge & climb only 4 steps to enter the 4-season house. The very recently updated interior is small in square footage (1200 sq. ft), but cozy, comfortable, & well-appointed. The beautiful small-space chef’s kitchen is efficient & well-stocked with cooking equipment. A new induction range provides lots of heat & fine temperature control when cooking while also minimizing our eco-footprint (a similar experience to cooking on gas cooktops & indescribably better than traditional electric ranges). An open floor plan offers lake views from most of the common areas. On the first floor are 2 bedrooms (1 Queen bed/2 Twin beds) & a full bathroom with a shower. The staircase leads to a second floor with a half bathroom (sink & toilet), a 3rd bedroom (1 Queen bed) & an open loft TV area. The beds have the very same ultra-comfortable memory foam mattresses beloved by guests at our other cottage. This is a limited square footage home so the 1.5 bathrooms are small, but also clean, efficient, & updated with heated floors & lighted mirrors! Recently updated decor features a retro cabin aesthetic with modern conveniences and styling. Eco bonus: Heat & AC is provided by an efficient heat-pump system & all electricity supplied to the property is 100% solar generated, purchased from a nearby solar farm! Aside from the fireplace, the house is run on solar electricity!
Step out of the house right onto the deck for incredible water views & sounds of the waves against the sea wall. A small shale beach area allows easy launching of kayaks/SUPs as well as a right-by-the-water firepit, perfect to relax lakeside & contemplate the universe. Located in a friendly lakeside neighborhood, a very short distance down a quiet, dead-end, single-lane private road with a 5-mph speed limit, the house is very peaceful & safe with quick & convenient access (no long drive to get back to the main road). The flat gravel road is pleasant for a morning or evening walk. Property outdoor conveniences like the watercraft & some outdoor furniture are seasonally stored & *not available* during colder months (usually late Oct to mid-May; exact dates are weather-dependent & not guaranteed). Please note that the house does not have a washer/dryer. This property is clean, updated, comfortable & ready to promote your relaxation & enjoyment. Welcome to Halcyon Cottage!

FUN FACT: the word “halcyon” is derived from Greek mythology for a period in winter when storms never occur because Alcyone (a princess turned into a kingfisher) was storied to nest floating on the sea around the time of the winter solstice & believed to have the power to calm the winds & waves while incubating her chicks.
____
NOTE: We do not ever rent outside of professional booking websites that verify our ownership. If you see this property advertised on c*****list or elsewhere, those listings are scams.
____
CHECK-IN: Check in after 4:00 pm; check out by 10:00 AM. We genuinely empathize with the challenges of travel logistics & wish that we could accommodate alternatives, but the scheduled times that we must guarantee our cleaners do not permit early arrivals or late departures.
____
OCCUPANCY: Property use is strictly limited to the max occupancy of 6 registered guests. Others are not permitted on the premises without the written approval of the property owners (only disclosed guests who are part of the reservation). We will consider authorizing small numbers of occasional/temporary day visitors (guests of registered guests) but are not able to accommodate consistent extras or large numbers because of off-grid septic system logistics, general space limitations, parking & other neighborhood impacts. Please message us to discuss if this is part of your travel plans. Any day visitors must abide by all house rules, including speed limits & parking restrictions.
____
INSECTS/SPIDERS: Bugs are a natural part of lake life & a healthy ecosystem. We do our very best to keep them out of the house, but because we are so close to an important water source, use of chemical sprays must ethically & legally be limited due to environmental impacts. To reduce the numbers that sneak inside, make sure to keep doors & screens closed, especially at night & make sure to seal/put away food.
____
SECURITY: Three exterior cameras are present (doorbell; parking area; exterior basement storage door (not accessible to guests)) that record motion & sound. Guest privacy is important to us; no camera covers private areas.
____
CANCELLATION POLICY: Refund in full for any cancellation requested within 48 hours of website reservation (check in date >2 weeks away) or within 24 hours of reservation (check in date 2 weeks or less away)
* Please note that our cancellation policies are date-specific & vary seasonally, with less flexibility in the very busy summer months & during holidays/event weekends. If you have concerns about the potential for weather, illness, or other unplanned events impacting your travel, we do strongly recommend looking into travel insurance!
CORNELL/IC GRADUATIONS & CORNELL REUNION EVENT BOOKINGS - The cottage is an easy drive for Ithaca events & a great place to relax away from the chaos & traffic! Full refunds in the event of ceremony cancellation.

I truly can't say enough about this property. It was a wonderul and relaxing week. The property owner provided everything to make our stay relaxing and give my kids plenty to do. We enjoyed morning coffee almost everyday on the deck together. In the evening, we had meals together and watched beautiful sunsets. It was close to so may wineries and breweries. I loved everything about our stay. Thank you so much for a very much needed week away ❤️

Check in was easy. Check out was easy. House had everything you could need. The deck and dock were wonderful to hang out on. Gave you lots of bath towels (that's a plus) Decor was beautiful. Owners were very accommodating for the few visitors we had. The neighborhood was so peaceful. We didn't want to leave. Didn't get a chance to use the water toys available but they had a nice selection. I would definitely recommend.

My husband and I and my grown family and one grandchild stayed at Halcyon Cottage for around 4 days in August. We enjoyed the water activities including swimming and kayaking. Donald has thought of many wonderful extras, like charging stations in each bedroom and common area, waffle iron, and several coffee makers, inviting patio furniture and separate living areas with that allowed the grand to watch her programs on one tv while we could catch the Olympics on another and make plans for the day. It's on a quiet dead end street on the water so very little traffic. We did a lot of cooking and found the kitchen very well stocked with equipment. Everyone was impressed with the place.

We loved our stay at Halcyon Cottage on Cayuga Lake. We really enjoyed the easy lake access for fishing off the pier, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and floating. They have a nice selection of life jackets as well.
The kitchen is sleek and modern. I really enjoyed learning to cook on an induction range.
The furniture was comfortable and we enjoyed family movie nights in the evening after a day of playing in the lake.
The shower had plenty of hot water and there are lots of hooks available for hanging towels and wet swimming suits.
We really enjoyed hanging out on the deck and bonding as a family. The hammocks are top notch!
Locally, we enjoyed the Aurora Shoe company, Treeleaven Winery and Bright Leaf Winery.
The King Ferry Corner store is close by and had a nice assortment of local produce, meats and dairy as well. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and kind. What a great neighborhood!
Don, Michelle and Sally were super easy to work with and answered all our questions quickly and thoroughly.
We are looking forward to coming back to the Finger lakes soon!

This is one of the best properties we've stayed in. There wasn't a single unexpected hiccup. Communication with the owner was clear and easy. The house was spotless, it felt brand new. The lake equipment was easily accessible, the kitchen was labeled and made it easy for us to cook. We had great weather and the lake area was lovely. I'm looking forward to renting the Halcyon's sister house next year.

We actually stayed at the owners property next door and the stay was no different. There was nothing to complain about. Everything was clean, up to date, and working properly. There is plenty to do in the area but staying at the property is just as enjoyable. There is no reason to not stay here.

If you want lakefront and sunset views, this spot is hard to beat. Oh, and peace and quiet, beautiful renovation, and great hosts. Really enjoyed our stay!

My husband, brother-in-law and sister-in-law stayed at Halcyon 6/24-6/28. We enjoyed every second of our stay. The house is filled with such warmth and comfort. From the breathtaking sunsets and the sound of the water lapping on the shore could soothe any soul. You will not be disappointed sitting on the dock, deck, out on the kayaks, paddle boards or tubes. A nap on deck in the hammock is a great choice as well.

This cottage is wonderful! It was clean and cute and everything was labeled and easy to find. It was exactly as described in the listing. We loved watching the sunsets from the dock and our sons love kayaking and fishing. I would go back tomorrow if I had time! Thank you!

We stayed for three nights at the end of August, but could have stayed longer easily. The property was as advertised. The layout made the best use of the space, kitchen was equipped beyond my expectations, rooms were comfy, and the dock and watercraft were fantastic. Except for one fabric stain on a dining room chair, the place was immaculate when we arrived.
You could tell the owners have put a lot of thought and care into the property.
Golf-courses and wineries were within easy walking distance, and Ithaca, Corning and state parks are within a reasonable drive for people who want to add day trips.
The lake and neighboring cottages were very quiet during our stay. Not sure if it was due to the timing of our visit or if that's how it always is, but it was an added bonus during our stay.
I've already recommended the place to family and friends. Would 100% go back.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Don & Michele’s lake front property mid August! The location is perfect and sitting on the dock reading, the fire pit at night and or the kayaks and paddle boards were exactly what we were looking for! We will 100% return!

I cannot say enough great things about this lake house and the owners. From the minute I considered the booking, the owners were quick to correspond and answer any questions I had.
The house itself is incredible for many reasons, the first being its location. Every night we saw an amazing sunset on the lake and the neighborhood is quiet and clean. The house is also located just minutes from several fantastic wineries and breweries with great food. Ithaca is only a 30 minute drive away as well.
The owners have taken great care in ensuring a clean and tidy home, well-organized with thoughtful details that make for a convenient stay. The kitchen has new appliances and is fully stocked with just about any cookware item you could need. We enjoyed the water toys (paddle boards, kayaks and tubes) during our stay and the small shoreline was so convenient for getting in and out of the lake. We spent a lot of time on the pier and the deck overlooking the lake, soaking in the relaxing view. The tree in the deck is a fun touch of character and provides excellent shade.
We already plan on coming back!

Such a cute place - photos don't do it justice. We loved being right on the water. Really comfortable bed and a great little kitchen with everything we needed. So glad we could bring our dog. The road along the lake was quiet and flat, which made for relaxing walks. The kiosk selling firewood at the beginning of the road was convenient & several wineries are very close! We're already planning to come back with friends!

We loved everything about our stay! The hosts were great with communication. The kitchen was so well stocked, that it made it fun to cook. Everything was so clean and nicely decorated. It’s directly on the lake with a nice deck so we enjoyed the sunsets while we sipped on our wine…purchased from 2 wineries right up the road. It was the perfect place for our family and I highly recommend it. We are already planning to stay again in the Fall!
