Went with our adult kids and a couple of grandkids. 7 in all. It's a little rustic which suited us perfectly. Spotless accomadations! Pauline makes sure of that. Awesome lady!!She cooked for us and it was excellent.Tony and Jullie at the bar were wonderful as well. Our favourite though would probably Wanda (Wander?).She's the household dog.We all fell in love with her!My favourite about her is she barks and chases the local police. Laughed my butt off!!! Was safe in the area. I wasn't out but my kids were out almost every night.Never a problem : ).

Traveled with 9 of us, including 3 tweens! We spent 5 wonderful nights in this "home" FAR away from home. Loved the access to the beach, the upstairs suite for the tweens, the large kitchen, bathrooms in each room, and the outdoor space to play dominoes. The company of Tony and Pauline make it feel like "home". The property is in the middle of 7 mile beach and provides access to everything that is Negril: sunsets, rum punch, waves, vendors, music and the best dog too. Wanda is a love! Property is not 5 star perfection - if you are wanting that, but we loved it! We ALL wish we were still there! It is more than a VRBO - it is an experience of community, people, and culture that make up this beach vibe! Tony's Hut is so great! Thanks for everything! We can't wait to return!

Absolutely loved this place 💞 We did not want to leave! It is right on the beach and Oh the sun sets are breath taking! The host Alison was wonderful! She was easy to get ahold of & very quick to respond! We flew into Montego Bay airport & had previously arranged for Taxi driver Banton to pick us up. Alison recommended him & he is absolutely wonderful!Highly recommend him for any errands. I did have to down load the Whats App to communicate for free with the locals there, so it didn’t cost an arm and a leg on my cell phone bill. The house, I’m glad I read the reviews before going as someone said the house is not a five star hotel if that’s what you are looking for, Which I was not, it was exactly what I was looking for just basic & 🤔 down to earth lol! Nothing fancy. A few tweaks would make it perfect for us & that would be an a/c in the kitchen it was warm in there during the day & when cooking on the gas stove, it really got warm in there. The bedrooms down stairs have an a/c but the one with all the big windows didn’t cool as well as the other bedroom it would run you out of the room lol. We did tour the upstairs bedroom that didn’t have an A/C for future stays with More family 🤗 & it was pretty warm up there. A small outside grill would be nice for cooking on to help keep from heating up the kitchen. Pauline has such a kind & godly soul! I wanted to bring her home with us! Things didn’t think to get at the store before we got there were salt/pepper, oil, paper towel

You can’t beat the location of this house - right in the middle of beautiful 7-mile beach! The house is part of a property that includes the quintessential little beach bar run by Tony the bar owner (bar is Tony’s Hut) who is also the caretaker of the house. It was so much fun being able to stroll out of the house, swing by the bar to grab a drink, and slide into the beautiful ocean. Bar isn’t super busy which is nice, just a few folks every hour or so. It’s very quiet by 10pm and you cannot hear bar guests from the house rooms. Julie is the other bartender when Tony is taking care of the propane she is kind and very knowledgeable about the area.
The house isn’t perfect, as the owner says, but it has everything you need. Best part for our two families was a full bathroom with every bedroom. 3 of 4 rooms have AC that works very well even in the higher temp months. Other great part of house is Pauline who comes to tidy the house, replace linens, and keep it neat. She is a lovely human being who exudes kindness and we loved meeting her.
Tony makes you feel well cared for and very safe. He has his trusty family dog Wanda that just hangs out around the bar and 2 dogs in the front near the street. Those 2 dogs add little extra safety measure at night feels extra secure.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and the house was as described, beach was better than I imagined, and people were really great.

If we could have stayed forever everyone in our group would still be there. The house is fantastic and the location phenomenal! We had the absolute best vacation of a lifetime. Pauline took such good care of us and is the sweetest of ladies, we actually had tears when saying goodbye! And Tony, well he was like having the coolest dad looking over us the entire time, such a great man and full of happiness and laughter. We have no complaints at all. Internet was a little spotty but we didn't really care because who has time for phones when in paradise! We had a very full itinerary of adventures so did not get to take advantage of Paulines cooking but she would have if we had had time! We were in a group of 8 aged 25 to 52 and had the most memorable vacation ever. Rudy the driver is full of surprises and will take you anywhere you wish to go, his son Damien also drove us and they are both truly wonderful people. Everyone there is beyond friendly. Take your bug spray, the mosquitos liked us alot lol and only pointer I would add to the description is that the town limits the water at night from about 11pm to 6am so get your showers in early! We will be back!

This is the perfect beach house if you're interested in exploring all of the activities on Seven Mile Beach. You can walk to everything. Hi Lo (the best grocery store around) is close by, walkable to Miss Sonia's for beef patties and Margaritaville. We ate breakfast most mornings at Charela Inn (try the chocolate croissants, they are insanely good).
Things to know: there is ac in the downstairs bedrooms only (of which there are 3) so there's plenty of space but the upstairs bedroom does have a lovely balcony. The mattresses are very firm (which some people love). The wifi is excellent. Tony is the kindest and gentlest man. He was so wonderful after someone got stung by a jellyfish and went to great lengths to help us be comfortable. Pauline is an angel... so kind and loving. I wish we had more time with her but we arrived late on Saturday night, she's off on Sunday so we spent only one day with her (Monday) and loved every second that she was around. Rudy (a driver) was recommended by the host, Alison, and he was FABULOUS. He made my kids smile and really helped them to feel the island vibes. Alison, the host, was immediately in contact anytime we had a question and was wonderful about helping us plan our trip. 10/10 great vibes, great people and a great location!

What a great experience! We traveled with my older parents (82 and 79). Tony, Julie, Pauline, and Rudy were incredible helping to make sure they were safe and felt comfortable. The house was pretty much what we pictured. The upstairs room uses just the spiral stairs, so too difficult for my parents to use, but it was one of the favorite rooms even through that room did not have AC. It is also nice to know ahead of time, that Alison has Rudy as a driver that can transport people anywhere (grocery store, fish market, bank, airport, restaurants) and help with experiences (like Black River, Mayfield Falls, the Blue Hole). You just need to ask Rudy about prices as he just makes his money by driving you. Also, many times the experience costs less than the companies like Viator and can give a more local experience. Also the staff can cook for you, just ask them. You would pay for the groceries and pay them about $100 to cook the meal- well worth it! Also, it is good to know you should expect to help tip the staff. I think we tipped about $20/day to Pauline (more if she helps with laundry or cooking), and 20% on our bar tab with Julie, then gave Bubba $40 (landscaping) and tip out Tony, as he will do everything to make your stay perfect. I cannot say enough great things about the experience. The ONLY downfall was over Christmas and NY, the next door outdoor night club plays music so loud, it will be hard to sleep. We actually had to get a room at another hotel for my parents on those two nights, but I think they only book events there a few days a year. Know that it is all about the beach, the bar, swimming, hanging outside and spending time with those you are with. It is not the all inclusive resort, and that is exactly why we liked it- ya mon. We hope to come back and will hold a special place in our hearts for our experiences and stay in Jamaica at the Gatehouse and with all the amazing staff.

I can’t say enough what a great place this is!! The pictures really don’t do it justice. The bedrooms were large and the beds comfy. Kitchen was large enough for 2 or 3 to cook and had every thing we needed. The outside dining was perfect and we spent many nights gathered around playing cards, laughing and enjoying the ocean breeze. Tony was an amazing host! He made us feel like we were at our home away from home! The bar was so fun to hang out in! And our Thanksgiving dinner he made for us was fantastic! Bubba was busy constantly cleaning the grounds, moving chairs around, filling in for Tony at the bar. And Pauline is just an Angel, so sweet, accommodating and loving, she really made us feel welcome! She kept the place immaculate. Rudy the driver was a bucketload of fun! He took us everywhere we wanted and took us to some great out of the way places that weren’t filled with other tourists. He is a pro at navigating the crazy traffic/drivers, really made us feel safe! Really everyone there felt like family by the time we left! The location couldn’t have been better. Great Restaurants and bars on either side, amazingly crystal clear, warm water and white soft sand. Truly heaven on earth!!

Have you ever been on vacation and felt at home? Well that’s Tony’s place! This will be a vacation location that we will go to again. Booking with Ali was a breeze. Tony met us at the gate when we got there to let us in. The location was perfect with lots of good local food. We rented the whole place ourselves and we’re glad we did. Everyone had their own room and privacy. The beach was amazing. Tony’s hospitality, Pauline tidying things up and Julie’s drinks were perfect. We got married on the beach in front of the place and it was a great way to end an awesome week. Wanda loved on us daily too and the kids loved her.

North Gate gives the full flavor of Jamaica. It is a Jamaican home situation in the heart of the beach. This allowed us to experience the local places to eat and to experience the local people of the community. A great feature of the house is the family veranda that was a nice gathering place for me and my family. It gives an open view of the ocean no matter what time of day. •Pauline kept our rooms fresh with clean linen. She prepared for us a delicious curry chicken meal. •Tony gave us so much history of the area. We all sat with him; sometimes in a group and sometimes individually to listen to his stories. North Gate gave us an unique opportunity of experiencing Jamaica that a resort could not. Thanks for the journey.

Memorable stay @ Gatehouse, Seven Mile Beach, Negril.
In short amazing. A slice of heaven. I am glad we found this accommodation for our 5 days stay at Negril. This house has everything going for it. A perfect location on revered Seven-mile beach. 50ft from the house you have pristine white sand beach with shallow turquoise waters. On either side of the beach, you have numerous options for food and drinks starting of with Tony’s bar just in front of the villa – for an authentic Jamaican rum or rum punch.
Gatehouse accommodated all nine of us in the party very comfortably in four spacious bedrooms. Place is well appointed with king beds, AC, and essential furniture. It is well maintained by the staff- Paulina, Baba, and Tony. Place is sanitized and cleaned with clean fresh towels provided every day and beds made in the morning. Tony made us a nice dinner one night – an authentic home food for a true taste of Jamaica.
Alli, the owner of the house is attentive, and she responded to our pre travel queries promptly. She introduced us to Rudy, the driver, local guide and (as he claims) your security guard😊. I totally recommend reaching out to him for all your travel needs. He picked us up at Montego Bay airport and from then was our go to guy for all travel needs in Negril as well in Montego Bay. He was fun to be around. We got a better experience of Jamaica because of him.
In all, the trip was memorable due to the stay @ the Gatehouse and by the staff!
Be aware: Gatehouse is not your Marriot or Ritz Carlton. But it has rustic charm of a colonial villa. One improvement I would like to see from the villa would be – new set of pots and pans in the kitchen. The non-sticks are sufficiently etched to be usable.

Daughters graduation trip!
My husband and I have been to Negril many times but this was our first time at Gatehouse. We took our daughter and a few of friends for my daughter’s graduation! Tony cooked an amazing jerk chicken dinner for us and all of our friends (about 30 people) it was definitely the best meal of the trip! Tony always made us feel safe and we enjoyed our conversations with him. Julie the bartender was always smiling and made us laugh every night while at the bar. And Pauline kept the house spotless. We will be back for sure! The only down side about this location is that the upstairs unit doesn’t have AC so it would get a bit warm. But other than that it was great! Oh and I can’t forget the amazing view!!!

Awesome place. I will go back again. Ideal for small or large families alike. Centrally located, closed to everything. Tony and Paulina will do everything to make your stay pleasant. Ditch expensive hotels in favor of places like this that would allow you to stay connected with the locals. Happening place in the beaches, close to restaurants, shops and bars.

Super special and wonderful place
There is much to rave about at this place. It is charming and comfortable with great views of the beach. What makes it a truly special vacation is that Toney, Milton, Pauline, and Bobba treat you like family during your stay:
During the day Pauline keeps the house looking like you have just arrived and treats you like you’ve lived there for years.
Toney’s cooking is out of this world (assisted by Bobba). He cooked for us three of our nights including a lobster feast for my husband’s 50th birthday (his fish, chicken and curried goat were all amazing). He also procured a spectacular birthday cake.
Milton runs the bar, kicks your ass in Connect Four and has a number of bar games to keep you entertained along with his cheerful banter.
Bobba does a yeoman’s job of ridding the property of the never ending supply of fallen palm leaves and taking care of the yard.
The house itself is simple and lovely, the kitchen has all the pots, pans and utensils you’ll need (including a coffee maker and filters). Every morning on the beach we were able to buy wonderful banana bread, coconut rolls, muffins and pineapple juice from Layton, and papaya and bananas from the cheerful fruit lady.
The location is smack dab in the middle of Negril’s Seven Mile Beach and has spectacular views of the sunset, a great beach, and gorgeous calm blue water. You can walk to great restaurants and water activities (we did the Yamon Red Stripe Catamaran trip on Milton’s suggestion).
The property is adjacent to the Wavz Lot which is a festival space...if there is an event there it will be loud and will go late. This is apparently infrequent but if it will be an issue for you, check to see if you can find out a schedule. The Blue Skies hotel is on the other side and in the process of being renovated/built so there is the hustle and bustle of ongoing construction (they have frequent live music in the early evening which is a nice accompaniment to sunset cocktails).
Ali was a great resource before and during our stay. I was able to email/text her with my incessant questions and she always responded promptly with lots of useful information on the property and things we might want to do during our stay.
My family (husband, his parents, my brother- and sister-in-law, and our 21 year old) will look back fondly on my the wonderful extended 50th birthday celebration we had for my husband here.

Great staff
The staff make it all worthwhile, Tony for the conversation, Milton for the cold Red Stripes & music history lessons, Patrice for great smile and laughter & BaBa for keeping the grounds straight!

Beautiful Experience
The property was everything we hoped to experience. Spacious cold rooms, refrigerator in every room (a plus if you’re traveling with picky eaters) amazing view over the veranda. Pauline, the housekeeper, was a doll. Extremely attentive and polite! My two year old daughter left Negril calling her “Ama” lol that’s how lovely she was to my kids.
Stacy at the bar was a huge help to get the best of the best of anything we wanted outside of the villa. Amazing people! Next time we vacation in Jamaica, we will be coming back to this Villa for its beautiful beach view, it’s PRIVACY, amenities and it’s amazing staff! * It could use a bit of work on the WiFi* I believe only one room was able to have somewhat of access to it. Other than that, it was a beautiful experience.
Thanks again, Pauline, Toni and Stacy!

This is exactly what the Dr ordered. I'm a Jamaican who has spent extended periods on the beach in Negril. I just happened upon this listing on VRBO and let me tell u, the 4 nights I stayed here (July, 2019) were simply perfect for my family. With 6 kids between 12 & 24 yrs old, the location was perfect for all to be involved in their own thing then come together when it was time for family fun. If I had anything negative to say about my stay, it was the inaccessible WiFi.
I and for a couple of days of doing work but because the WiFi didn't make it to the Guesthouse, I was force to ignore work (or so I told my boss). The property care taker, Tony, is amazing. One of the coolest guys on the island. U must arrange to have him cook some chicken and fish on the grill. Ms Pauline is another of the great compliments to the property. Anything u want done, ask her and she'll do it or tell u who or where to get it done. Now the greatest compliment to the property is Wonder. I won't tell u about her, u'll just have to go meet her. Our family has decided, no more trips to Jamaica without at least 2 nights at Gatehouse 1212.
C u guys before the end of 2020.

Loved every minute! We'll definitely be back!
We had a wonderful time vacationing at this villa for my 50th birthday. This was my 6th visit to Negril and I always wanted to stay here and finally fulfilled my dream. I love this part of the beach. It is away from the crowded, all-inclusive resorts and walking distance to all of the best bars on the beach. It was perfect for my husband and me and 3 other couples, each couple having their own bath, private entrance, and king size bed. Its not fancy, but provides the comfort and necessities we needed to have a wonderful time. My husband and I stayed in the second floor room, which doesn't have air conditioning, but the ceiling fan worked perfect. We actually got a little chilly at night and had to turn the fan down and pull up the comforter! The other 3 rooms have air conditioning. There is a large kitchen with everything we needed. If we weren't at the beach, we would be hanging out on the patio which has a large table with plenty of seating for everyone. You can see the blue sea sitting on the patio which made it a perfect place to drink your blue mountain coffee in the morning.
Pauline was so sweet to us. She washed all of our dishes and then she would clean and tidy up our rooms while we were out having fun. She also made delicious curried chicken one day for us for lunch! Tony, the caretaker and bar owner, lives on the property in a small house near the road. We felt very safe knowing he was always there for us. If we had any problems he was easy to find and would resolve them quickly. He cooked grilled lobster and jerk chicken for us the last night and it was perfect!
Milton and Stacy are the bar tenders at Tony's Hut. They are the best! I know they were tired of making us dirty bananas by the end of the week. They we so tasty! Milton would also arrange cab rides for us and Stacy would wave down the fruit lady for us if we weren't there and get beautiful mangoes, bananas, and cut pineapple for our breakfast. Norman would also stop by with meat and veggie patties for an inexpensive lunch.
We also rented Desmond's glass bottom boat for the five days we were there. Desmond and his first mate Sanjay took us snorkeling at different reefs, the caves at the cliffs, and the little island for exploring and lunch.
We also visited Zimbali Retreat for a wonderful dinner, the many fun bars on the cliffs (3 dives, Just Natural, Xtabi) and ate at Canoe Bar and Best in the West.
We loved every minute. Thanks for a great time!
