About this cabin rental
Hurricane Helene update: The Jefferson & West Jefferson area were not harmed by the hurricane even though some neighboring towns, like Lansing, were. Most local businesses and restaurants are open for business. Wil-deer-ness Cabin did not have any damage to the cabin and we are accepting reservations starting November 2024. Please be aware that the river access area was damaged and will not be available for your stay. If you are coming to the area for a specific attraction, you should reach out to make sure they are open. The blue ridge parkway is currently closed for cleanup efforts due to downed trees.

This secluded log cabin nestled on 2 wooded acres, off a private road, is located just minutes from the towns of West Jefferson and Boone in the North Carolina mountains. Private access to the New River is only a short hike from the cabin down a nature trail. Go fishing or bring your beach chairs and cool off on a warm summer day. The path and clearing by the river are completely owned by Wil-deer-ness Cabin. The river area is for our guests only, it is NOT a public access area. This cozy, two bedroom, two bath cabin which sleeps up to four people, comes fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing, peaceful and memorable vacation. The cabin is fully furnished, linens included, all kitchenware provided and offers lots of activities. Relax on the covered wrap-around porch, surf the internet, watch a DVD from the DVD library or catch your favorite streaming TV shows from the Roku devices on each LCD TV. Lounge in the outdoor Jacuzzi Hot Tub, read a book in the hammock (seasonal), enjoy a friendly game of horseshoes or make s'mores and tell stories around the fire pit.

You'll discover many fine restaurants, championship golf courses, winter ski resorts, antique and craft shops and many cultural events. You can go fishing, canoeing or tubing on the New River or visit Mt. Jefferson State Park. First day we arrived we tried using the hot tub . But could not because the fumes were so bad from high chemicals that we (4 of us) couldn’t breath from inhaling the bad smell .made us cough .
I immediately messaged the host and there response was that the chemicals was tested the day before and there fine, there solution was to let it run 5 to 10 minutes and it would be fine . Well for the next couple of nights when we got back to the cabin we would open it up and run it for awhile Never helped it out , We could not stand close to the hot tub because the chemicals smelled so strong !!! Then on the 3 rd night I messaged them again because it was still STRONG SMELLING!!! And there response to me was that there was no way to bring down the bromine level without draining it and refilling it . So I ran to Walmart and bought a spa test kit and everything was really high except one thing . So I messaged the host again even sent them pictures and they did not respond.
If they even cared about there guest service they should have either came to the property themselves or sent someone to fix it on the first day we got there !!! We stayed 4 night and nobody bothered to show up to fix it ! Was unusable the whole time! Was one of the main reasons we picked this cabin and couldn’t even use it !! We are actually lucky we didn’t use it and get very sick from inhaling the high levels of chemicals that it has.

What a wonderful place this is. You can lose yourself and find yourself all at the same time. The quietness (if you allow yourself to listen for it) is amazing. The perfect get-away indeed! Can't wait to return when we have a little less to do so we can slip away even more into the serenity.

My husband and I eloped just the two of us and our dogs in Grayson Highlands, and this cabin was such a great find! Very comfortable, quiet, and beautiful. The upstairs and downstairs bed/bath setup ended up being perfect for us each privately getting ready before our first look the porch on our wedding day. Also loved the walk to the riverfront area thats beautifully maintained. When were back in the area for future anniversaries we would definitely want to stay here again. Only about 30 minutes from Grayson Highlands and about 20 minutes from West Jefferson (great spot for food and drinks). The hosts also had so many recommendations and resources that we wish we could have pursued more if wed had the time.

This cozy cabin had everything we could want for a weekend escape. Dog friendly, a hot tub, comfy bed and water access which was fun for both the pups and for my husband. Michael and Donetta were very thoughtful hosts and even left a small birthday gift for my husband since I told them we were coming to celebrate his birthday. They also left treats for the pups. Instructions were very clear for everything too. I enjoy not having to guess what to do for check in/out. They are very experienced, accommodating hosts and it shows in all the details.

My family of 4 enjoyed this cabin so much! It was nice to get away from busy life and spend a quiet weekend in the outdoors. My kids (7 and 11) loved the trail to the creek and could have spent all day out there. We had to travel to West Jefferson for most restaurants but only about 15 minutes away.

When we arrived at the cabin, we found it to be everything we hooed for, perfect amount of provacy in the location, very clean and the detailed notes for juat about everything imaginable was just mind blowing. We really enjoyed the hot tub and made sure to get in it each day, the firw pit was another favorite. The short hike to the river was refreahing as wrll and our dogs loved every minute of it. They had a blast exploring the area with us. But this rwciew would not be at all complete, witjout mentioning the stellar customer service and care taken in insuring that we had a great stay at the cabin. Michael and Donnetta really made it feel personal. We loved the cabin, the nature and the tranquiluty. We will definitely be back!

We were so impressed with this property. It literally had everything we could possibly want from towels for the hot tub to Bluetooth speakers. They even provided wood for the fire pit, which was a very comfortable space to hang out in. And if you’re a smoker, there are ashtrays all over the place for you to use.
We had a sisters weekend and had a blast. Everything we need or wanted was at our fingertips. The communication was excellent and the owners were very nice. We highly recommend staying at this property if you are interested in privacy and comfort.

Love this cabin in the woods. The walk across to the river was lovely. We enjoyed this cozy cabin and hung out by fire pit and enjoyed the hot tub. Located so close to West Jefferson action but still feel like you were in the woods. Hope to return would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed the property, it was private but close enough to go into West Jefferson for the farmers market and shops, The hot tub really hit the spot as did all the games that were available. We did make the treck down to the river once, it was beautiful.

The Wilderness cabin is a cozy log cabin nestle in the woods. Very cool at cabin for this time of year. The house had beautiful decorations everywhere. Instructions easy to follow for house amenities. Close to West Jefferson, Lansing, Blowing rock and Boone. I would recommend this to all who just want to relax in quite. Cabin was very clean and well kept.

We had a wonderful stay! Location was great for privacy. My daughter enjoyed skipping rocks in the river. Owners even thought to leave some dog biscuits for our pup! Clean and well stocked.

We loved our stay at this cabin! It was so quiet and peaceful. We loved being in the woods, listening to the birds, sitting on the porch or in the hot tub which is right off of the master bedroom.
The porch is wrap around and has a table with four very comfortable chairs. It also had a high top table and chairs, and rocking chairs. The house has everything you need to cook a meal or enjoy a glass of wine. The owners added many “extra touches” which made it feel so relaxed and welcome and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I spent the weekend with friends at the Wil-deer-ness Cabin. It was peaceful and fabulous. The cabin had lots of really nice added touches. The hosts are very considerate. We enjoyed a great weekend and will keep this on our list of getaway spots. Absolutely wonderful.

This cabin was awesome! We have stayed at many different cabins in the blue ridge mountains, and this one ranks up near the top for sure. Very well set up with instructions for everything, all the amenities you need and nothing you don't. Hot tub worked great, the river access was clean and perfect for wading and our dogs to play in. Has good proximity to town and parks/trails.
