Celebrated my husband's 30th birthday with a trip to the mountains and our stay here was amazingly relaxing! The view is breathtaking, pictures don't even do it justice! We enjoyed the hot tub and sitting on the deck in the evenings.

The wrap around porch had a fantastic view. It was very safe for 5 little children to play on. The children enjoyed the available toys inside. Living space was very comfortable and we enjoyed the bear decor. The fire pit worked well for roasting marshmallows. Everyone loved the hot tub.

Really enjoyed the amazing view from the deck. Cabin is casual and comfortable with upgraded bathrooms. Was perfect for a peaceful getaway.

Beautiful mountain views from the deck! We really enjoyed this mountain retreat especially the New River below us.
We will definitely be back.

If you want comfortable accommodation with privacy, beautiful views and peace and quiet then this place is what you need. Easy check in with coded entry and excellent check in instructions from the host makes you feel at home upon arrival.

We had a wonderful relaxing weekend, the property was great with awesome views. It was peaceful and enjoyable. We did some sightseeing and visited vineyards.

This property has a beautiful view. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub looking at the view of the valley below and the sunset.

view was AMAZING from back deck. hot tub was great too. river access was half mile downhill on private road. we drove to and recommend checking out blowing rock, moses cone estate (along blue ridge parkway), and grayson state park all within an hour drive.

Great place to stay and unwind. Sunset views incredible. Hot tub was spot on for limbering up to start the day & winding down at the end.

We enjoyed our stay ! Hearing the river was very peaceful and we got to see the sunset from the hot tub ..ended our evening with making s'mores at the fireplace ! Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to get away from life for a little bit

Beautiful views and nice amenities. We enjoyed a hot tub sunset looking at the beautiful mountains! It was within 15 minutes of the state park for nice hiking and downtown West Jefferson, which is a very viable small town.

We would never go there again. Pros ..The host was great communicating , easy checking in. Enjoyed the hot tub. Nice view.WiFi worked. They allow dogs. Bathrooms obviously undated nicely. Beds comfortable enough. CONS …short white dog hair on couch, stain on sheet , 7 ft ceilings, felt small and claustrophobic ,seems very old , hood above stove filthy, had very pungent deodorizes plugged in several rooms which knocked us over when we walked in, very dark, one burner would not work consistently on stove, and fire pit pic on website looks close , but you actually have to hike up steeply through the woods in the dark , abandoned shack and trailer next door, old mismatched furniture, not full set of spoons, 2 plastic wine glasses, which maybe is for hot tub but no good stemware , not full set of teaspoons.

Booked this place for the weekend and it was everything and more. We wanted to go somewhere to relax, unwind, sit by a fire and hop in the hot tub. It was amazing plus it had a view. We loved it.

We had such a wonderful weekend! The view is amazing, the cabin story book perfect, red hot showers and cozy flannel sheets.
We spent many an hour hot tubbing and reading in front of the fireplace.
We initially struggled to light the fire but Brian gets 10/10 for responsiveness, even proactively calling the cabin land line to make sure we were sorted- bravo!! I hope we can return

We’ve stayed here in the past and it’s just as wonderful as we remember. Private, secluded, stunning views. Clean, cozy, everything you need. We cannot wait to go back!

The cabin is great and the view is spectacular. We had a great time during our stay, though we did run into some unexpected complications due to weather. Around 4 inches of snow dropped roughly 36 hours before we were scheduled to leave. Brian had snow shovels, mostly for the deck and walkway I'm sure. The driveway has a fairly elevated grade, and the path we dug couldn't get the car out. Brian was great about helping us connect with a neighbor who plowed the driveway for us and afterward we were able to get back to town.
Short version: Great place to stay. Cabin is comfortable, warm, and has a great view. Think ahead if snow's in the forecast. If its 3+ inches, even a 4-wheel drive may not do the trick without help.

Great mountain cabin, view is spectacular. It’s been a long time since we were able to be lazy and enjoyed every minute of it. Would certainly stay again.

Y’all! This cozy cabin was beyond what we imagined! The view was spectacular! We will definitely be back! The owner Brian was really nice as well!

Super cute, very nice landscapes, nature. I was there to spend the 31st with the family. I would have to say so many nice and good things, cleanliness, everything necessary and more too, if I could give it 11 out of 10 and 6 or 7 out of 5!!! She is a beauty, we were delighted!!

What a terrific mountain getaway! Our cabin was so warm and inviting and we were thrilled to find it decorated for Xmas! We felt right at home and except for food and personal items we found everything we needed for our stay. The views of the mountains and the river from the porch were fantastic! Would definitely love to stay here again!

Beautiful view, sunsets were beautiful. Cabin was perfect for our family. Enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner there.

This property is so much more beautiful than the pictures show. It’s spotless clean, quite, feels secluded, but it’s only a short drive to W Jefferson. The view from the deck and the hot tub are absolutely stunning. Six stars as far as I am concerned.

We had such a great stay at this cabin. The views from the porch are gorgeous and we spent lots of time out there enjoying the hot tub and patio. The cabin is cozy and compact but well laid out and comfortable. We cooked several meals in the well equipped kitchen (heads up, no dishwasher). The location is great - feels so quiet and private, but only about 15 minutes to West Jefferson. Lots of nearby hikes and we loved exploring the river which was easy to access from the property. We would love to return!!

I've been to the mountains many times but when I walked up on the porch and seen the view,my mouth dropped..sooo beautiful ❤️

The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. The wifi worked great. It seemed like it was far away from civilization, but it was only a short trip to a grocery store and to Downtown Jefferson's shops and restaurants. The mountain view from the porch cabin was worth every penny! Highly recommend!

Decided to get away for a long weekend with some friends. The cabin was clean, cozy, and has some outstanding views.

Very relaxing, beautiful view and just down right peaceful!! Will be back!!

We had an amazing stay at this property! Owner was extremely responsive and accommodating. The cabin itself was clean, well-equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay and then some, and with breathtaking views to boot. We especially loved all the toys, my 1 year old loved the building blocks! We’ve stayed at several cabin rentals over the years and this one just takes the cake. We’ll definitely be rebooking.

Was a great place to relax and take in the surrounding views. The view off the deck was spectacular and the New River flowing below just added to this overall beauty.

If younger, we could appreciate more. The driveway is steep and not easy to turn around in. But that could be us! We were in a big truck. It may not have required more than front wheel drive if backend had more weight to it. I cannot emphasize enough how awesome the panoramic views are!

Perfect place to experience the mountains of NC! The hot tub was an added bonus! It’s close to the river. The house was cozy and had everything we needed to cook meals for our family. Host was promptly responsive. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Brian was the best host I've ever had as far as communicating. The hot tub was crucial as we were hiking hard every day, but the views were stunning. We rented this property for both and were not disappointed. We hope to make it back next year!

Very relaxing stay?

The cabin sits on top of a cliff overlooking a river and mountains. It is very private and has everything you would need including a washer/ dryer, grill and television. It was perfectly located for fishing, mountain biking and shopping in nearby West Jefferson. I would highly recommend this cabin.
4.9
Beautiful cabin. Hiked some nearby trails, went tubing down the river, and explored West Jefferson. The owner has a guest book in the cabin for all guests to sign and write about their trip. Our trip was based largely on what other guests wrote in the book! Awesome idea. I wish more places did this! Lots of fun and you’ll be surrounded by beautiful mountains. The driveway is a bit steep, but my 2 wheel drive, 4cyl Tacoma pulled it off. We drove past the cabin on arrival. The GPS will bring you to the general area, but once you get to the GPS location, it’s on the left hand side down the slope. You’ll see a red reflector in the ground to the right. You definitely feel like you have your own private oasis in the mountains at this cabin. You can’t see any neighbors. We took a walk to the river to scope it out; you’re better off driving down to the river if you’re going to swim or fish. It’s quite the hike back up to the cabin. Loved our stay!

My wife and I absolutely loved staying here. The property owner was very nice and helpful during our visit and immediately replied to our questions that we had. The cabin and view was exactly as described, and we would love to stay here again.

The best thing about this cabin is the large porch and beautiful view. The kitchen is well outfitted with good pots, pans, dishes and silverware. Note that there is not a dishwasher. The bedrooms are very small but the beds are comfortable and the small bathrooms are nicely remodeled. There are no bedside tables and lights. The hot tub was fun. It is in a great location to hike at Grayson Highlands. We hope to come back!

The description fit the property perfectly. Have never stayed north of West Jefferson. We loved the location, easy access. Thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary weekend trip here. We hope to return again in the future and highly recommend Riverwood Retreat.
