Absolutely top notch

Absolutely amazing from start to finish!. The staff were excellent, very friendly and polite and amazing with my 2 young children. Can not fault this hotel at all. The room was beautiful and was very spacious and well equipped. We will be booking and staying again!.

We stayed at St James hotel for a trip in the city and the location was great. Receptionists were very friendly and help

Beautiful reception area. Stylish and inviting. The room was cozy, the bed was very comfortable and the dressing gowns were a lovely addition.

Could have done with extra pillows.

Great location but somewhat dated

Excellent location, helpful staff, comfortable bed, reasonable size well-lit room (executive), fair value

Decor - incredibly dated black and silver, looked like a bordello or 1980s batchelor pad. Room not serviced each day. Tiny bathroom for an executive room; I could hardly fit on the loo it was so close to the wall.

Ruined anniversary

Clean and good location

1. The shower burnt and froze you whilst dropping pressure constantly 2. Breakfast was a shambles. £27 and nothing left an hour before serve finished. Save your money, it looked terrible anyway. 3. Construction work going on outside our window from 8am 4. Noisy neighbours until 2am Our first wedding anniversary was completely ruined by this stay. I left embarrassed that I recommended this hotel. After having a baby 8 weeks ago, we just wanted to celebrate our anniversary, have a decent night slept and no issues. My wife left crying. I’m devastated and disgusted that this wasn’t resolved whilst checking out.

Fine for a short stay, lovely staff, but ultimately not worth the price.

The staff were really polite, friendly, helpful. Everyone I spoke to - even in passing in the hallway - was lovely. The reception itself is decorated wonderfully. The location is good.

The room was very small; even for a basic room, it was tiny. There was probably half a meter space either side between the bed and the wall. The bathroom was alright, but the fan didn’t work so after a shower the whole place was like a sauna. The shower controls were also fiddly and broken (as in, the control coverings would fall off while using). The room doors are heavy and so slam shut very loudly - so throughout the night I was woken up constantly by other guests’ doors slamming. The soundproofing on the windows is poor; between the slamming doors and the idiots screaming outside all night, I barely slept a wink. The complimentary water (which is refilled in reused bottles) tasted stale? And the sparkling water was flat. Not so important but if it’s offered it should be passable.

Great location, great value

The room was lovely, comfy bed, high spec, lovely breakfast.

The room was hot, the fan cooled it but air con would have been nice. The remote controller for the TV didn't work. The window would not open fully, but I understand for safety reasons.

Breakfast was disappointing.

Good location near the castle and some nice restaurants/bars nearby. Staff were friendly.

Breakfast was not refreshed often enough and food was overcooked, dry or inedible. Was not worth £13.50. Housekeeping only replaced shower gel toiletries once during a 4 day stay. No staff visible in reception. Parking in NCP not discounted.

A short but sweet visit this time but we’ll be back for a longer stay

It’s a while since we’ve stayed here but it’s just as good as I remember it. The location is within easy walking distance of everything you could want and the hotel itself is always welcoming, comfortable whether you want to sit and relax with a coffee or enjoy a pre dinner drink and the staff can’t do enough for you.

A convenient location for a reunion of friends.

The breakfast was good. The room had a kettle and tea etc. Toiletries were provided.

The crash pad in which I stayed had stains on the carpet and peeling paint. We requested breakfast at check in but this was not communicate to staff. We were able to have breakfast but there was an awkward moment. There was an incident in the entrance area in the evening. A guest was speaking very loudly and aggressively. The young lady at the reception desk was seen to stay calm but should have been supported by another colleague in case the problem escalated.

Soulless hotel. Very expensive for the cost.

I have no idea how this is a 3 star hotel. Tacky and soulless. Rooms very poor even after upgrading.

Room very poor quality for 3 star hotel. Upgraded for 'room with a view' and looked out on to a wall. Shower was awful.

Perfect for a few days, especially if you want to sleep well and eat well.

Breakfast was yummy and plenty of choice and it was so close to centre. Love the little touches like the sleep spray next to bed.

Perfect for a central location

Beautiful interior, colours and designs very eye catching!! Loved the staff at reception and I was very glad if the lifts!! Literally 5 minute walk from the olde salutation 🖤 private secure car park was an added bonus. Right opposite the castle and surrounded by cobbled streets

Location perfect. Five minutes from the main square. One minute from the castle. Three minutes from Ye old trip to Jerusalem. Comfortable bed nice shower. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast.

Breakfast was lovely lovely dining room.

Noise over looking carpark building outside drilling at 8am . Top floor only one lift working and going to leval 5 we were on 6 ! at the end of building cleaner banging slaming doors very early .TV remote didn't work . Bed very hard .

Perfect hotel in a perfect location,we can’t wait to stay again thank you.

You got a warm feeling as soon as you walked through the door. Check in was a breeze with a lovely receptionist. Our room was lovely with everything thought of from hot drinks to bottled water and even pillow mist to help with a relaxing nights sleep. Breakfast was the best we’ve had especially the scrambled eggs. There was nothing we didn’t like about this hotel.

Decent stay in the city centre

It was a great hotel and i would absolutely recommend and will definitely stay again

The hotel was great, room was a good size, clean and bed was very comfortable. Staff were lovely & extremely helpful. We had a fan in our room which was great addition as we would have to usual have to ask for one. Location was amazing and such a short easy walk into the city centre. Breakfast was beautiful and so much option to choose from. I would 100% recommend the hotel!

This is in no way a complaint of the hotel but more of a warning to drivers. I wouldn’t recommend booking the hotel car park if you love your car too much. The car park they have available is separate from the hotel, it is only a 3-5 minute walk away i will add but it is an underground garage, which has a steep ramp to go down into the garage and has a VERY sharp downhill right corner to get around as soon as the garage door opens. (There is a wall directly in front of you when it opens). It may be ok if you only have a small car but any estate or large cars, i would definitely recommend using the NCP car park which is literally outside the hotel doors. We went into the garage but i did not feel comfortable leaving the car in there and moved our car out of the garage and into NCP & it was perfectly safe overnight. I am a very experienced driver but my husband had to get out of the car and guide me back around the corner to get back out as it is an extremely tight corner. I will also add, if you do book into the hotel car park, it would be very easy to get your car blocked in if they book all spaces out, if you were to park your car in a bay which is up against the wall, there are spaces for people to park directly behind your car. It would also be a nightmare to get back out depending on where other people park as there isnt a huge amount of space down there and it would be very easy for someone to damage your car and drive straight out. The hotel car park was just short of £10 or the NCP was 14.95 for 24 hours if you pay by the ticket and not the app. Again, if you have a small car, you’d probably have no issues getting into it whatsoever. It does advise it is not suitable for larger cars when they give you the directions at reception but does not advise this anywhere before hand.

Decent hotel, much more beautiful in the lobby and restaurant than the rooms themselves. Overall good

Excellent location, front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Building works at the NPC car park mad opening the window unpleasant. The lift can be heard, quite loudly, from the room we were in every time it went up or down. The extremely small bath was effectively useless, which was a shame as it was one of the features that swayed us to staying here.

Nice looking hotel and rooms. Comfortable beds. NCP parking right nextdoor

Breakfast staff could have been a little more helpful. The young lady ticked us off on the breakfast list and then disappeared. We went and found a table and sat waiting. We didn't know it was ALL self-service. It wouldn't have hurt for her to say "Hi, please find a table. Breakfast is a self service buffet and the drinks machine is located behind the bar." Please train your staff.
