Cozy hotel conveniently located very close to the Onsen area. Easy to reach on foot by bus terminal. Very good breakfast and welcoming staff!
The furniture is a bit old, and the bathroom in our room was a bit smelly. Unfortunately, the air conditioning system is a bit old so very noisy which overnight was quite annoying.

The meals were vegetarian-a rather nice variation from other inns & quite tasty. The innkeeper is a T'ai ch'i instructor and gave us a short impromptu T'ai ch'i lesson in lobby before breakfast! The village of Nozawa Onsen is fascinating. There were many shops and public baths within close walking distance of inn. We loved walking around the village and found some wonderful surprises as we did. People were very friendly. We were in "off season" (neither full summer nor skiing season) so there were no crowds at all.
I don't think the fact that food was vegetarian was made obvious on English site though our Japanese speaking friend discovered it in checking out the inn. This wasn't a problem for us but might be an unwelcome surprise for some.

Great breakfast lunch and dinner. Fantastic hosts who tried their best to help. The facilities of the accommodation really exceeded my expectations. Has everything you need for a ski trip with the family.
Not much to say here.

If you are vegetarian, look no further, Hatoguruma Kawabata is the place to stay. Amazing home cooked vegetarian breakfast and dinner. Really kind staff. Relatively close to slopes, Yu Road travelator up to the Hikage ski area is about a 7 mins walk away.

The cooking exceeded our expectations. Served sumptuous portions for breakfast and dinner. much better than eating outside. Property is close to several onsens and centre of town. The owner was very kind and helpful during our stay.
Futon beds - then again we are in Japan. There also used to be a chairlift which made it super easy to get to the mountain however it is gone. Still this would not be a deal breaker.

We enjoyed everything about our stay. The hosts were amazing. They were friendly and couldn’t do more to help you. They were very accomodating with our 10 month old and even supplied toys in the room and a seperate nappy bin.
The Japanese style breakfast was great and well worth the 1000 yen pp.
The room was spacious and the futon beds were surprisingly comfortable, although there are western style beds available. The ensuite bathrooms (Although small) were a big plus for us, seeing as a lot of similar style accomodation in town has shared bathrooms only. The rooms were spotlessly clean and had a great view of the mountains.
The location was great with only a short walk into town where there are multiple bars and restaurants and walking distance to the slopes. The only negative would be for someone that is elderly and less mobile as there is a reasonably steep hill walking from the town. This wasn’t an issue for us.
Overall it was an excellent stay for us and would definitely recommend. 10/10

Very nice large room with all you need. Lovely friendly Japanese couple run the hotel.
Great Japanese style breakfast .
Easy walk from the main bus terminal and close to main part of town .
it’s a bit of a walk to the covered walkway up to the slopes but can be done in about 10mins .
it’s a good warm up before you ski.

The service was really nice. The place was very cute and convenient. There are amazing public baths just around the corner.
Flushing the toilet sounds like you're opening a portal to another dimension. It worked fine, just startled us at first.

A wonderful Japanese-style lodging with a great location and value for money in Nozawa Onsen. The room was clean, warm and cozy, and the hosts made sure we had hot water at all times. They gave us detailed information about everything there was to do in the area. There were so many wonderful free hot springs very close by!
We requested vegan food for dinner and breakfast in advance, and although a bit too oily for my personal preference, it was delicious and prepared with utmost care!
Even though the property's profile says that they only accept cash, card payment was also available and made things quite easy.
I can't imagine us staying anywhere else next time we come back to Nozawa Onsen!

Fantastic host, very friendly and helpful despite language barriers.
Was located quite close to the shinto (?) chairlift which took us straight to hikage. Otherwise very close to some great onsens and main streets.
Room was comfortable and warm. Drying room was fantastic.
Wifi signal was very weak in the room. Tv was small

Fabulous location, 2min walk to centre of town and 10min to Yu Road lift to the Skii area. Owners very accommodating, even waiting on us arriving at 0300hrs. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the hosts always willing to accommodate any requests or questions.
