This place is a tucked away gem. Cosy, well kept and the Host is very attentive to your every need. Our Butterfly Room was very spacious, tastefully decorated & the views across the pretty fields was lovely to wake up to. Had a roll top bath & a shower too. There was plenty communal rooms to chill out in downstairs, Music Room, TV Room & a lovely dining room to eat our very tasty & well presented Breakfast, which was taylor made to our requests each morning. The Old Rectory is set in lovely well maintained grounds and is quiet & relaxing. Free Parking is on site too. A wonderful getaway and well worth every penny staying there. We were totally relaxed and felt very much at home. Wouldn't hesitate to return.
Only wish we could have stayed longer, but given the opportunity we will return.

Stylish and sophisticated. Attention to detail second to none. Caroline was welcoming and charming. Felt like we were part of the family
The breakfast was excellent. Elegance personified.
Sam the dog retrieved the ball but wouldn’t let go of it !! Otherwise a lovely hound.

Beautiful property and gardens. Caroline is the most accommodating host. Highly recommended.
My only negative was not booking for more nights!

Beautiful property - house and gardens. Caroline is an exceptional host!

Everything about our stay was a delight. Caroline is a perfect host, who will treat you as a guest in the true sense -nothing is too much trouble, and you feel very quickly that you are 'at home'. The location is a perfect English village, and the house is gracious and tasteful. Breakfast is delicious , and served on beautiful English china in the traditional manner. We were very sad to leave, and are already making plans to return as soon as possible. A holiday to remember, always.
There is nothing whatever that could be improved upon.

It was all lovely

From the moment we arrived, our warm welcome from Caroline we felt all would be amazing, it was. Our stay was filled with care & touched with luxury, an original period home that one dreams of, what a treat, from a sumptuous bed, to indulgent bathroom with slipper bath, relaxing scented toiletries, incredible views, grounds to delight at every turn. Peaceful rural area near to good pub/ restaurant, village store. Delicious, breakfast local produce, eggs were direct from the resident hens, all cooked to perfection. We could go on & on, superb, can’t wait to return ….

A beautiful location, the house is super impressive and Caroline is an outstanding host. The breakfast was amazing.

Great way to stay in an incredible old house, which has been maintained and perfectly kept.
Breakfasts were absolutely incredible and made specially as you like.
The host, Caroline is friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome in her wonderful house.
There wasn't an en suite, but we had our own bathroom down a hallway, which wasn't too inconvenient, but it was a little walk if you wake up in the night!

Caroline was an amazing host who was very pleasant and went above and beyond. Many little extra special touches throughout the stay, lovely coffee in the kitchen, cooked breakfast was lovely, complimented by the poached eggs (Caroline allowed my 6 year old son to collect the eggs from the chickens in the garden). Beautiful grounds and house. We stayed in the family suite (one double and one single in separate rooms), all rooms were very clean and well kept. Cowshed toiletries and the bed was to die for. We genuinely didn't want to leave!!
Yes the gate has to be kept shut because of the dog, however it does say in the write up that there are pets on site. I guess it would be nice to have tea and coffee in the room but the facilities are there in the main kitchen and you are of course encouraged to help yourself. There are even biscuits and the tea and coffee available is lovely.

Caroline and her family are lovely, welcoming and perfect hosts. The food was excellent and the house and grounds are gorgeous. The television has a DVD player and there was a nice selection of films, which was a bonus. The dog is also very sweet!
I was under the impression I was booking an apartment, and it’s really the attic of the house. The lead photo shows what looks like a barn conversion with outside stairs so that was what I thought was happening. It was a little restricting not being able to nip out after everything locked up. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities although Caroline very generously made my old Dad a hot chocolate before bed.

Fabulous hosts, fabulous room and fabulous breakfast! The location and the house was beautiful. Caroline was so helpful and willing to do everything to make our stay comfortable and luxurious. One of the best places I've stayed. Would recommend to anyone and would most certainly return.
Nothing.

countryside location was lovely, having a sofa in the room, the standard of breakfast was high and the hosts were very helpful and welcoming.
only that the 2 bed suite rooms were apart a bit and I was worried about my mum as she has a lifeline at home - maybe a better explanation on this but at least she was near the bathroom :)

Caroline and Allan were exceptional hosts. They provided high quality accommodation in their beautiful home with great attention to detail. Caroline’s breakfasts were probably the best I’ve had. We will return.
Nothing to fault.

Great location for exploring the coast and local villages.
Superb hosts who went out of their way to ensure we had a fabulous stay.
The house is set in extensive grounds available to explore and relax.
Very comfortable room with excellent facilities.
Extensive breakfast with cooked food made to order.

We had the most wonderful stay at The Old Rectory. Caroline and Allan are the perfect hosts and have thought of every detail to make guests feel welcomed, cared for, and comfortable. We stayed in the beautiful King Room which had a luxuriously comfortable bed, plenty of pillows, and a stunning view over the garden. Breakfast was sublime, with fresh berries, a variety of cereals, yoghurt, fresh coffee, and then a choice of a cooked breakfast too, beautifully prepared by Caroline. We felt so welcomed and looked after, and the attention to detail in everything was very apparent - from the cleanliness, the thoughtfully prepared breakfast, the modern facilities, and the cosmetics available in the bathrooms. Caroline and Allan are really exceptional and genuine hosts and I hope your stay here is as perfect as ours was.
It was all perfect.

Everything was beautifully decorated the bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was the best I’ve ever had…
Having to open and close the gate because of the dog…

Welcoming, impeccably clean, beautiful property, views, location and grounds. Breakfast delicious. Owners attentive hard working and pay keen attention to every detail. Room comfortable well furnished and large.
Nothing!

The grounds were lovely. Excellent outdoor seating and ambiance, and plenty of shade during a blisteringly hot period. We were also able to keep the room airy and fresh. The cooked breakfast was of real quality - as were the berries and yoghurt. Caroline was very accommodating in indulging our requests when we brought back food items for the evening.
The lighting could have been better for reading at night - we like to tackle cross-words together before settling!

A magical stay.
The hosts, Allan and Caroline were as wonderful as the Old Rectory itself, a labour of love for them both.
The breakfast, the welcome the magnificent gardens, the bed the made you feel you were sleeping on a cloud - everything was just perfect.
Nothing. Literally nothing.

The property is a truly beautiful home. It's what I always imagined an English manor house to be like. The host and hostess are some of the most welcoming people I have ever met. The hostess is a gourmet chef and you can't believe what she can cook up in her Aga! Full china and silver place settings every morning, and delicious, very fresh berries were a special treat for me. Enjoy the organic eggs from her sweet chickens. The gardens and the flowers put on quite a show and you are invited to stroll the grounds and enjoy the gorgeous garden terrace. The attention to detail in the decor is simply lovely. The bathroom was enormous with a large free-standing bathtub. Take time to enjoy a hot soaking. I highly recommend this place for a long luxurious weekend in the countryside.
Everything was absolutely perfect.

Beautiful House, wonderful gardens, superb location, lovely room. Caroline and Alan were perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Delicious breakfast, you choose your Full English organic ingredients, toast with English hedgerow honey, fresh yoghurt, fresh fruit and cereal with organic milk from a glass milk bottle!

I don't have enough words to describe how amazing our stay at the Old Rectory was. Not only the decor of the house, the facilities, and the attention to detail (fresh Freddy's flowers in every table of every room), but also the welcoming and friendly atmosphere that Caroline and Allan provide made our stay unforgettable.
The two bedroom suite was extremely comfortable, and Caroline and Allan made sure we had everything we needed. They even put some beautiful bath toys and baby bath soap in the beautifully decorated and cozy bathroom for our son, and went to the effort of buying a travel cot for our son before our arrival.
Caroline cooks an excellent breakfast. The food is really good quality and you can tell she does everything with care and love.
My little boy had a cut in his forehead and Allan brought a very complete First Aid Kit with everything you need!... he also booked us all for dinner in two amazing places.
It was a seriously unforgettable experience and we're already thinking about when we can go back!
Thanks again for everything and see you soon!
Having to leave :(

I very rarely write reviews of places I stay but felt compelled to say something about the Old Rectory as it is just such a special spot. Caroline and Allan are consummate hosts and the pictures do not do the place justice; truly an idyllic B&B stay.

We loved everything. The house is beautiful with extremely high standards of cleanliness. The room was large with a very comfortable bed and loads of space. Lots of lovely touches like toiletries and fresh flowers. Spotless bathroom facilities. The hosts, Caroline and Allan, were so warm and welcoming and allowed us full use of the house and gardens (including tennis court). Breakfast was amazing and so colourful with excellent local produce especially the beautiful yellow eggs and great coffee!!! We felt extremely relaxed and welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Also great recommendation for dinner.
The only thing we didn't like was having to leave. We were at the Old Rectory for two nights but it didn't feel long enough. We will definitely be back though!!! :) We couldn't fault anything

Breakfast was spectacular. The whole experience of being there was wonderful... Caroline and Alan made it feel like my daughter and I were family, chatting in the kitchen, getting top tips of where we should be heading for dinner that night while wandering around the exquisite garden and, in Alan's case, even looking out for us when we were late home, having walked back through the cornfields from The White Horse. We were intrigued by Alan's fascinating past -- the WiFi password is a clue -- and I even got a tour of "the dungeon" with Caroline, which included her new gym and the Rector's wine cellar. Seems clerics in Ye Olde Somerset did pretty well for themselves... at least on the tipple front. The location was really good... not far from Beaminster, with the Jurassic Coast and its fossils and pubs beyond. Beautiful place, lovingly restored and a delight to spend time in.
We didn't like leaving.

Bit closer to the bathroom.
