Best hostel ever

Location is excellent - El Tunco is split by a river, this hostel is on the busier side of that river but far enough away from the business to be quiet. My favorite part about the location was the pupusas out the gate on the main road and to the left, best price around but be a good human and tip. The family that runs it is incredibly kind. The pool is shaded for most hours of the day, so you can use it when the sun is up. The bathrooms, pool, and common spaces are cleaned often.

Each beds comes with just a single sheet. I believe this is to keep people from running the ac too low. Honestly I was okay with it, AC got set to 24 and I slept like I was on Benadryl.

The rooms were okay, but the staff were money grabbing and messed around our booking.

The room had AC

The staff messed us about with the rooms and were unhelpful when we tried to sort it out. They tried to take money off our card when we had already paid for a night in cash.

Trust my review and the other reviews and don’t stay here

This place was absolutely awful. It was nearly 50 usd a night for a terrible room with an unbearably uncomfortable springy bed, the room smelled like mould and was incredibly crammed. There was no breakfast, the kitchen was “out of bounds” within certain hours, they didn’t provide water, and the bathrooms were about 20 metres away from the rooms down stairs and past all other guests and animals. The bathrooms were also really gross and i felt more dirty after using them than before. When we approached the staff about the springy bed, asking for a room change or bed change she was very rude and immediately started waving her hands in my face and trying to dismiss me. I asked her kindly again to replace our bed and she was running around showing me that all the other beds are the same, as if that’s something to be proud of. They also tried to charge us more for another room when we finally found the one bed in the whole place without springs. After a heated debate and very unpleasant interaction, they did eventually replace our bed. I don’t know how this place can operate when most of the beds have springs and wires almost breaking out of the mattress, i’d rather sleep on the floor and almost did. Please don’t support this place until they are willing to lower their prices, provide water at the very least, replace their beds, and learn how to operate a guest stay properly.

If there's no other option stay in Kali, if there's anything else, go to some other place.

I it had an easy access to the property.

Customer service. They cancel my reservation last minute, they even offered transportation from the airport due to my late arrive, but few hours before stopped replying and at the hotel my room was cancelled, with no one to check me in. A total nightmare, I was able to crash in on another room otherwise I would have suffered with no place to stay that night. Close to the check out, I needed to leave my luggage for a couple of hours anywhere within the property to wait for my ride who was scheduled in the evening and they didnt let me leave my bags, still I can't get how dumb that could be, but anyways had to take my stuff and asked on a different hotel (where I didnt even stay) and they happily stored my luggage for the hours I needed.

Good location.

The matras was not so comfortable. Felt the springs in the matras. In the bathroom were a lot of ants.

Poor

Room smelled of carbon monoxide smoke via a generator close by- and these very expensive rooms are really part of a shipping container that has been made into rooms- should be stated in the description- very deceiving. The receptionist claimed we had no reservation through Booking.com - this was a second booking property that did this scam. We just paid what was the price, and the dog Toro and the two staff members Moses were helpful, not the female owner however. Not impressed and booking should remove properties like this!

Pleasant

The location was nice and quite and the room had AC. Although we didn't use it, the kitchen looked large and well equipped.

The bed was not comfy, it was very soft and you could feel the springs in the mattress. Overall our room did not feel clean, the walls had marks and stains and the floor was not very clean.

it’s a great place to stay in El Tunco. it’s clean, room is nice and comfy. good silent air con and nice swimming pool. Cristina was a great host.

Boss lady and money talks!

Staff that only talks about money and is greedy about money. Staff was not really there if they want money from you they were there! Travel 14 h and the first thing we got in are face was the bill for the 3 days we were staying there. Ask fore 1 more night and everything was okey, the day after the lady (boss?) knock on ore door and sad check out! We ask what the problem was and she say that we did not pay?? Again only money talk! And the ppl that she book in at the room we stayed. Was not happy about why we get kick out, so they followed us to another really nice hostel. Lady (boss) lost 4 payed guest!

I would not recommend this hostel. It does not worth the money. Everything was extremelly dirty and smelly.

Location and air conditioner. But I would not recommend this hostel. Also a guy who told me he was new working at the hostel was very kind helping me with bus timetables.

Very dirty and smelly rooms. Had a pipe without fully cover full of just outside the door, full of mosquitos. The smell was horrible. Got biten by every single mosquito. Swimming was so dirty, it was imposible to use it. Bathroom was very dirty and full of ants. Also not toilet paper in the bathrooms, but a post saying “Changing the toilet would not cause you brain damage”. Maybe they could take the advice themselves and provide toilet paper to change. Staff (the woman that received us) was extremely rude. Completely lack of costumer service.

Really pretty, has pool, great price for privates

$20 a night for a private room is a winner. Rooms in shipping containers and all seems safe and clean, bathrooms down the hall. Has communal kitchen, pool, board rental, and only a few minutes further to town. Definitely would stay again for price and facilities given lots in the area gets booked out

Just a few minutes further to beach / is near main road but ideal if you find this place as not many people talk about it

Very poor

The location

There are so many things to tell I don't know which to prioritise. The staff was super unfriendly. The lady in the reception made everything possible to make it an unpleasant stay for us. No towels were offered. We could get ones "borrowed" after some minutes of struggle and even they were dirty. A very deep moisture smell in the room. Bathrooms are so small, especially the sink, that you don't even have the space to brush your teeth or wash your hands properly. Finally, the pool was disgusting. There are many nice places in Tunco that does not appear when you type Tunco on Booking. Better to check places on the map. Just a recommendation for you to find a better place and not ruin your holidays by staying at Kali Guest House!

Superb

Great spot , having the pool on hot days is perfect when not surfing. They have some gym weights by the pool an a good kitchen. I could have easily stayed two weeks. Staff, a very helpful family. Always greeted with a smile. I’ll be back

Exceptional

Great hotel right near the beach, quick walk to check the surf. Lovely room with en suite. Staff were lovely and breakfast included was fantastic! Omlette and Eggs Benedict (El Salvador version) were both delicious.

Good kitchen facilities - fridge, stove, food storage etc. Nice relaxing areas, by the pool, hammocks, couches.

Out private room door didn’t shut properly within the doorframe and in the end my AirPods were stolen.

Avoid this place

Pool got good sun

Private room with private bathroom - bathroom was down end of hall past other rooms. So not private at all. Place is built of shipping containers stacked on top of each other, which shake if people walk past. Road noise is quite loud. They would not refund me anything. Staff was really rude. Told me it was booking.com fault that their listing was misleading. It was so bad - would not recommend or stay again. Way better places for better value.

Great air con in rooms, comfy bed. 5 minute walk to the Main Street so a great location.

Staff weren’t really present during stay, the dog is quite boisterous but very friendly.
