The house is big, airy and has nice views. We, like many, were there for a celebration, the house accommodated well our largish group. It was clearly a lovely house before but is now tired and, for what it is, expensive. The house needs repairs and decorating in every room and outside. The cleaning was ok but still plenty of cobwebs and dust on shelves. The kitchen is missing basics and doesn’t have enough serving bowls, serving spoons, crockery really. A final comment - the owner came through the house yard at speed on a quad bike, unannounced and without slowing down. With a young child in our party this was not just an intrusion but felt unsafe. Overall it is hard to recommend the house in its current state- it doesn’t truly match the photos on the StayCotswold website. With a refresh and some better equipment it could be great.

Waterhead Barn is a stunning building in a beautiful location. We enjoyed the nearby beautiful meadow and stream and the surrounding Cotswolds are wonderful!
The barn itself is spacious with ensuite bedrooms and plenty of living space! By and large it is well equipped but it feels a bit unloved
That said, we had a terrific long weekend with family!
4.8
The house itself was comfortable and spacious but tired and needed a coat of paint throughout. The kitchen needed to have more cooking utensils, especially serving spoons and serving dishes, there was plenty of other cutlery. The outside of the house needed a brush up as plenty of leaves had congregated. Andy the manager was fantastic and extremely helpful, advising us of places of interest and where was best to visit. A basic welcome hamper would have been a nice touch, instead of just two bottles of beer between twelve.

10 of us aged 2 - 75 had a great time.
The space was amazing allowing us to spread out and relax
We particularly liked the two big tables and the amount of crockery, glassware etc
4.8
A warm welcome from Andy set the tone for a lovely week away with the extended family. Comfy beds, clean well equipped bathrooms. Huge living space downstairs, added bonus was the grand piano which the more musical members of the family enjoyed playing!
Would love to return in the summer and be able to fully enjoy the outside space.
Great for kids, ours are 3 years and up but not being able to close off the stairs or any of the downstairs rooms might be tricky with toddlers.

We stayed at Waterhead barn for my 60th birthday, there were 11 of us. It was a lovely house and Stay Cotswold are brilliant thank you

With six en-suite bedrooms, Waterhead Barn, was the ideal place to hold our Golden (50 years) Wedding Anniversary celebrations. Over the weekend our three sons together with their wives and our four grandchildren stayed with us. After they had left, our Best Man, Brother, Sister and their partners joined us for a further two nights.
As others have previously mentioned, the barn is much bigger than it appears in the photos. The downstairs bedroom was ideal for our disabled guest but it would have been helpful to have a hand rail on the four steps leading down to the kitchen.
Some of the bedding and towels were new but others especially the towels would benefit from being renewed in the near future.
At first glance there seemed plenty of chinaware and cutlery but when there were 12 of us it became obvious that there were shortages in several items.
Although the electric Aga was used on two occasions when we had arranged for private chefs to cook for us, we personally never used it as none of us had any experience of cooking on one. We therefore made good use of the two modern electric ovens, although one had a broken light bulb. We were some what surprised the separate hob only had two gas rings, the largest of which needed be held on for several minutes to heat up before it stayed alight by itself.
It was good to have two fridge/freezers when catering for 12, although one would benefit from being defrosted and a new drawer fitted.
The washing machine worked, although very noisy, as did the tumble drier.
Although the furniture and floors were very clean, the inside walls of the barn would benefit with the use of a feather duster and perhaps a repaint in the near future.
All in all we had a very good week in a large comfortable barn.

The house is stunning, and even bigger than it looks in the photos! It was a pleasure to cook in that gorgeous kit hen and sleep in those beautiful bedrooms. The living areas were spacious and comfortable and we easily managed to have 13 people sit down to eat at the tables for meals.
Other than being a bit chilly at night and perhaps needing some new towels and bedding, the house was pretty perfect. It is obviously a remote location but that has pros as well as cons.
Above all that, the service was outstanding. Andy was responsive and friendly from beginning to end, and made everything easier to arrange.
We would definitely recommend Waterhead Barn and may even come back again in the future!

We had a fantastic stay at Waterhead Barn. The house was very comfortable, lots of space, really clean, beautiful setting, nice and quiet. Just what we needed! The check-in process was excellent, we would definitely come back.

We had the most wonderful weekend at Waterhead Barn celebrating Granny's big birthday, there was plenty of space for us all to do what we wanted and enough for all 12 of us to be together. The countryside was stunning and so peaceful. Andy could not have been more helpful, the cake, milk and beers were very much appreciated. The beds were very comfortable and having ensuite bathrooms was a huge treat. The weather was cold so we enjoyed using the fire, there was ample dry wood. There were just a couple of things we would mention, there was quite a smell in the boot and utility room, there weren't lids to some of the pans and could do with some more serving dishes. Some of the walls were a bit grubby but having said this we would 100% rent Waterhead again and recommend it to friends. We'll be back, we just loved our stay, went too fast.

It was a fantastic holiday resort. A calm and nice place and may visit again specially during summer

We really enjoyed our stay at this property! Andrew was great to deal with and left us a welcome gift of cake and local beer. Everyone had their own room with an ensuite bathroom which is not always easy to find. The barn is nicely decorated and very peaceful in a beautiful countryside setting. It's also close to Stow on the Wold for shops and restaurants and makes a great base to explore the towns of the Cotswolds. It's also within easy reach of London and Oxford by train for longer day trips.

A group of friends spent a very pleasant long weekend exploring the Cotswolds, enhanced by the glorious weather. The house is in a great location, spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. A nice touch to have a cake and some complimentary beers on arrival. The house needs a little TLC - touch up the paintwork, clean the stair carpet, outside doors need varnishing and there needs to be a more visible sign at the entrance. However, overall we had a great time and would recommend the house to others. Thank you.

We stayed 2 nights at Waterhead Barn for a family get together. The was plenty of room for three generations to hangout and have some fun. Lovely property and a good location close to many of the Cotswolds highlights.

Quaint Gem in Gloucestershire!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at this lovely cottage in Gloucestershire and it exceeded all my expectations. The cottage is charmingly decorated, immaculately clean, and offers a serene escape from city life. The picturesque surroundings and nearby attractions provided endless opportunities for relaxation and exploration. The hosts' warm hospitality added a personal touch to the experience, making it truly memorable. I can't wait to return for another peaceful getaway!

A beautiful home for the weekend with wonderful surroundings. The whole family enjoyed it. Very open and spacious inside!

Had a great time at the barn. Its well managed and the welcome beers were a great hit as was the cake. Andy was a great caretaker and he explained things clearly and was very approachable. Nice and quiet location and would definitely recommend.
4.8
Waterhead Barn is a large property in a fantastic location, and Andy the caretaker was great to work with. We enjoyed walks to the brewery and taking advantage of the lovely outdoor space. The inside could do with some updating, namely better and more kitchen equipment, paint in areas, and better linens/towels. Carpets could use cleaning/replacing. Having two refrigerators was great. There is plenty of seating indoors and out. We thoroughly enjoyed the area and would consider again if the property was refreshed

Amazing converted barn just outside of Stow. I rented the property for a weekend away with friends, and we had a wonderful weekend. The property had everything that we needed, and has plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding area.
Easy to get around the Cotswolds from the location, and Stow is only 5mins in a taxi away.
Always had excellent communication prior to our arrival, and our host was very inviting when we met him on arrival
4.8
Comfortable, spacious and in the heart of the Cotswolds. Lovely walks along quiet lanes and old Roman tracks - perfect!
4.8
Our booking was for 11 people; Grandpa (myself), my three children and partners plus four young grandchildren. The accommodation was excellent with no more than two per bedroom and en-suite for everyone. The living/social area was enormous, a vast kitchen with dining space for all, two semi-open plan lounges and still more space for the children's games. The patio with a table for 12 was excellent for evenings and there was plenty of space for the children to run around safely. Parking space is also plentiful. The location is certainly secluded, surrounded by fields with the nearest dwelling hundreds of yards away. All in all, exactly what we wanted and ideally situated to access the delights of the northern Cotswolds.
The interior fittings are modern and mostly worked well. We had a little problem with the SKY TV connection but as there was little call for this entertainment it did not worry us. WiFi was no problem. We could pick minor faults with a couple of other aspects but none of it detracted from our enjoyment of the week. The condition of the barn was spotless and the welcome cake and beers were a nice touch. Perhaps our biggest challenge was persuading four young grandchildren not to shout as the sound echoed around the barn.
Arrangments via StayCotswold were very straightforward. Their communication was very good and payments, including refund of the damage deposit went very smoothly. We shall hope to be back.

A room for everybody, brilliant no one triping over any one else and loads of places to visit within a half an hours drive. Very clean area and the locals seemed friendly. All in all a very happy and comfortable stay.

Great property for larger groups. Very comfortable, well equiped and in a great peaceful location.
We had a great stay at Waterhead Barn. Our family group of 9 found it very comfortable. There is heaps of space and it had most things needed for our stay. It is in a great location and the walk to the nearby brewery was very pretty. There were a few things we felt would have improved our stay, these being:
1. Some more comfortable outside seating.
2. More shaded areas or more than one small umbrella located in the outside table. For a group of 9 it was hard to get shade for those that wanted it.
3. We didn’t find any barbecue tools.
We would definitely go back for another stay in the future.

A Wonderful Family Rreunion in the Cotswolds
We brought our whole family over from California and Washington State USA to the Waterhead Barn in Upper Swell in the Cotswolds, for a weeklong reunion with the English side of the family. All twelve of us fitted in very comfortably in this very large barn conversion. The setting in the Cotswolds countryside is lovely, with lots of beautiful scenery, and narrow, winding roads to explore. A brewery (beer for sale in-house!) and a local pub are within walking distance. Stow-on-the-Wold is a short driving distance away, as are many other delightful Cotswold towns and villages.
The Waterhead Barn offers very ample parking space for a number of cars, and an adjacent mown grass field can be used by the young folk to run around and explore. We made good use of the large outdoor table with a big umbrella for outdoor lunches on sunny days. The barn has recently been converted to a rental property, with six modern, comfortable bedrooms, each with its en-suite bathroom. The downstairs living and dining areas are spacious, with two comfortable seating areas and a dining table, and a large kitchen with another large table for 12 or more people. The kitchen is overall well equipped, with very ample tableware and cutlery, cooking utensils and kitchen knives etc., although lacking many of cooking basics - cooking oils, spices, sauces, paper towels etc., which are usually available in rental houses. The kitchen includes an electric Aga stove, an electric double oven and (surprisingly) only two countertop gas burners - marginal when cooking for 12 or more people!
We want to give a special commendation to Andy Driver, the property manager, who looked after us so well, and responded very promptly to requests for extra items or help. Thanks to him, our stay in the Waterhead Barn went very smoothly.
Overall, a very excellent venue for a large family get-together, thoroughly recommended.
The Waterhead Barn thoroughly deserves five stars

Annual reunion
We all thought it would be an advantage having grab handles in the shower room especially the room on the ground floor as quite likely to be used by someone with mobility issues.
We loved our stay here for our annual get together

A Superb house for my sons 30th celebrations
This lovely big house on the Donnington Brewery estate in Upper Swell,Stow on the Wold,is the best house we have ever rented & was perfect for The Cheltenham Festval ,other than a few minor kitchen utensils it was a dream for the 12 people of my family.
4.8
80th celebration
We stayed in Waterhead Barn to celebrate some family birthdays. Our ages ranged from 10 to 80 and the property was fabulous for everyone. Absolutely loads of space. It is in a very peaceful location which suited us perfectly. The bedrooms were very comfortable and each having its own en suite was really convenient. The kitchen was well equipped although we could have done with a few more serving dishes. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend.
4.8
Family meet up
We had three days and nights at the barn with 8 adults 2 teenagers and 3 toddlers. The barn offers lots a lounge space, large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, it has an enormous kitchen, and feels as if it has only recently been converted. The location is idyllic, off a very quiet narrow lane with super views over the surrounding countryside. Also the barn is within walking and cycling distance of Stowe on the Wold, where there are lots of shops and restaurants. We went on plenty of winter walks, and enjoyed getting back to a well heated barn. The price is expensive, and Stowe is expensive, but it is worth it to be in a such a wonderful environment, with Donningtons Brewery just down the road

We had a lovely stay at Waterhead Barn which was perfect for our needs and for all ages from 73 to 6 months.

Family gathering
Excellent facility with huge space for large group.
Log fire a real autumn treat.
2 fridges and 2 ovens made our stay easy.
Close to large Tesco for shopping.
Needs more refuse bins in yard.
Cotswold farm park nearby great for kids of all ages

A beautifully appointed house which had the perfect layout for our extended family.
Our extended family and friends enjoyed this well presented house. The rural location was perfect and the large secluded garden was perfect for the little ones to get rid of energy safely.
With every bedroom having its own en-suite is considered a luxery that most properies cannot claim. Our contact Andy, was quick to answer any queries we had, even bringing the charcoal for the barbecue when we needed it. Its rural location hides the fact that it is very near to the Cotswold wildlife park, Stow on the Wold and many other picturesque villages close by.
We had the family with us for three days and then friends for three and the replacement bed linen and towels were delivered in plenty of time.

Waterhead barn
House is beautiful, great set up for a family gathering or party. Very remote and peaceful, only negative is you do need to drive everywhere. However location is a great base for exploring the Cotswolds and a visit to the local
Brewery is a must.

A beautiful Cotswold hideaway
Lovely location and fabulous large barn conversion. Quiet but accessible to lots of lovely Cotswold villages and towns.

Amazing extended family house
We had a fab stay here, the open plan layout with designated areas meant that we could enjoy separate activities, however still see the little ones. The cleanliness was good in most areas, some condensation mould in the corners of the aluminium windows needed cleaning. Also there was a couple of loose spindles on the stairs, as we were there for a short stay and didn't want any intrusion we didn't address the matter, although I'm sure they would have rectified it. Andy met me at the property and showed us around, explaining heating etc, he also promptly provided charcoal for the BBQ as there wasn't enough left out for us- thank you.
