The solitude and the grounds. Different areas for different purposes. Great host.

beautiful and relaxing. very special place. Richard is a star! Thank you for the great vibes!
More cooking equipment would be great, for the bbq, some bowls, and cooking utensils like a wooden spoon. We managed fine with what was available.

Nice and secluded place.
Owner's kindness.
Great home-distilled gin with a pepper flavour.
Free use of a buggy quite useful to cross wet meadows.
The price is very high (356 £ per night).
So we expected a very very special place and it wasn't, even if "the Lakehouse" is a quite nice and peaceful and secluded place.
But should you be last minute customer, dont't hesitate to call the owner and negociate a good deal !

What a fantastic place it is. The perfect place to relax and switch off from work. The dog also loved it and had fun. The hot tub and boat were very nice additions to make the stay even better!

Wow what an incredible place! We loved watching the nature on the lake each day. Even saw a kingfisher! Richard was very accommodating and always happy to get the fires going whilst we were out, and give us pointers for where to go in the local area

The location of the Lakehouse is truly wonderful. You really are in your own spectacular little piece of Devon and with the lake, the countryside and the comfort of the house itself makes for a complete escape from the outside world. Richard and his son Rocky could not do enough for us. They ensured the wood fired hot tub was always to a perfect temperature, they took the time to drive and collect us from the local pub and we were treated to a bottle of Richard’s homemade gin which was exceptional. I cannot recommend this property highly enough and we had a fantastic stay.
Everything was perfect. Nothing at all not to like.

We loved absolutely everything. The host Richard made our stay so comfortable. Super kind helping pull our car out of the mud, giving us our privacy but being available if we needed him, offered a beautiful bottle of gin he makes too! The place was secluded but safe. Perfect cosy and romantic stay with the log fire burning listening to the running water on our doorstep from the lake.

Stunning location, even better than the pictures show. The house itself is feels nice cosy, spacious, especially loved the bedroom (really good quality bed), and shower room. Tried my hand at pizza oven, which was awesome. Jacuzzi was lovely, having a gin + tonic (gin made on site by Richard) overlooking your private lake which lights up in evenings. Lots of walks around, and well located to coast as well if you fancy driving out for a walk.
Richard was great, as were his neighbours in greeting us and helping with any request.
Highly recommend, and definitely coming back for Summer.
Nothing I can think of

Fantastic setting, very secluded. So quiet and peaceful. The bed was so comfortable and the sheets were the softest we've ever slept in! Richard was really friendly, he gave us a guided tour and talked us through how everything worked on arrival. Although we didn't need to contact him during our stay, I'm sure he would have been there straight away if needed.
Having to come home was definitely the worst part of our stay!

Lovely part of the country, accessible yet secluded and private, with a beautiful setting by a lake. Manages to be rustic yet very comfortable too, with all the mod cons - inside kitchen, outside kitchen, pizza oven, BBQ, coffee machine, ice machine(!), WiFi, log fires, hot tub, you name it. We visited for a couple of nights in the autumn and thoroughly enjoyed how snug and cosy it was, but I can imagine it must really come into its own in the summer. Bonus points for being dog friendly to a fault, and for how friendly and obliging Richard the owner is. Didn't hurt that the complimentary gin was delicious too. 11/10 would definitely come back
4.8
Absolutely stunning surroundings; privacy; peace and quiet; rowing on/swimming in the lake; eating al fresco on the deck with the heat of the log burner keeping us warm; making our own homemade pizza and cooking it in the wood-fired oven; delicious Lakehouse G&Ts... one of the most blissful weekends we've had in a long time. We will definitely be back.
That we couldn't stay longer!

…An idyllic and secluded lakeside setting, surrounded by only nature. We basked in the warmth from the patio table heater whilst we absorbed the beautiful night views across the lake in the glowing light. All with an exclusive loyal companion, the Lakehouse gin. The host is most attentive, generous and hospitable.
… still racking my brains …

Self catering. Beautiful peaceful lakeside property. Second time here to catch-up with family for my birthday, Hot tub is a new welcome addition, very peaceful and private, great to see farm animals being added. Kitchen fully equipped with absolutely everything to self cater.
Weather. While Richard is a fantastic host he’s not in charge of that 😬

The Lakehouse is perfect. On arrival we met Mel and her husband, as Richard was away. As we drove across the field to The Lakehouse we were introduced to their animals, including their adorable goats the Presleys. The Lakehouse is within a bowl, and hidden by the treeline from the farm, and so once you arrive the area feels entirely your own.
The Lakehouse was clean when we arrived and we had been told that cleaners come in between each stay to make sure it is safe. This was hugely reassuring as these were our first nights outside of home since Covid. There are substantial supplies of all kitchen items to last your stay, and a huge supply of wood for the fire in the lounge, the pizza oven outside and the hot tub. The shower is amazing, the hot water supply appears to be infinite, the bed is huge and comfortable.
The location is incredible. Separated from the rest of the farm you'll hear the animals, but feel completely isolated. The lake itself is beautiful (though quite bracing!), with Moorhens and their chicks nearby, and what looked to be swallows occasionally dipping in for a drink. We meant, on several days, to go for an exploration of the nearby area but found it almost impossible to tear ourselves away from the tranquility of 'home'.
You can park your car very close to The Lakehouse, making it easily accessible with luggage. There's separately a matted walkway down from one of the fields, giving some grip on the downward slope. We were told if the rain got too heavy that help was on hand, but this was not needed. The inside is all level between rooms, and only a small lip onto the decking. I'm not sure how it would be with a wheelchair on your own, but a pram would be trouble free.
Richard and the others are easily available, though realistically we had no complaints or any problems and only made contact with them to say so, and thank them for their hospitality.
The only negative part of staying here is that you will, eventually, have to go home. This also makes it a terrible place to explore the rest of the area from because you probably won't leave.

We found the Lakehouse by luck when looking for a place to go for our honeymoon and oh woooow it was the most stunning experience we have had in a long time.
The whole place is super peaceful and magical and the host Richard is absolutely super cool
Thank you so much for everything we didn’t even want to go back home.
Definitely will be back again.
