We loved being able to at least partially see the ocean. The home is on a cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood. It was a lovely getaway from the hustle and bustle! The decor was cute and fit the cottage perfectly.

We loved this cottage. Was super cozy and had everything we needed for a short stay.

We loved this cottage! It was so quaint and charming and perfect for our family. The fans and the screens in the windows were lifesavers as we hit some hot weather while staying here. We loved the location, as well as the view over the water. Absolutely wonderful and we would stay here again!

When we arrived the door code did not work so we had to use the key in the lockbox which was very hard to use and only one key for four adults. A local Vacasa person was supposed to come and fix all of this but never did. The house is fine...but a lack of screens on most of the windows kept us pretty warm. I thought we would have easy direct access to the water but this was not the case: had to walk about 1/3 of a mile to get to the water. Never saw anyone swimming...seemed only for fishing. Bed mattresses need an upgrade. Upstairs bedroom skylights need shades. Living room couches need an upgrade. Why a large glass table in the center of the living room when children are welcome? However: nice games for children. Good applicances. everything worked.

This was a Vacasa managed property. Will never use another. Although cottage was clean enough, the grounds had not been maintained. Upon arrival, house was closed up tight. NO airflow so inside was really hot and gross. Ran around collecting fans to cool things off. Had trouble with Keyless entry, but got in. Dropped bags and went out. Came back after dinner and found keyless entry was no longer functioning and it took too long to get the situation dealt with. Had to be given access with the actual key to get in. Again, took too long and lock was actually never repaired during stay even though we were told it had been the next day. Next morning shower unusable due to diverter falling out of tube faucet. Texted at 8am about issue. When maintenance person finally showed at 8pm, not actually repaired. We were told we needed to just use our fingers to push it back up into the faucet which was loaded with calcium deposits. Grounds a mess. Lawn mowed, but weeds had taken over the gardens, and the grill was unusable as it had been shoved into the garden area and overtaken by the weeds. The deck by back building was unusable as well due to a large thorny rose bush growing up through decking. Due to location near wetlands, not mentioned in description, and all the recent rain, mosquitos were horrible. Couldn't sit out even during the day. I used to live in Maine and they were bad. Will not stay again.

This was a beautiful cabin near the water. The interior and exterior of both beautifully kept and very authentic. The only complaints that I would have would be that the front and back door screen doors did not work very well. And the upstairs bedrooms did not have much headroom because the ceiling is quite low. But all in all it was a great place. If I were I visiting the Harpswell area in the future, I’d stay again. Something else to consider is the mosquito issue. There are lots of mosquitoes in July in this area. We really couldn’t go outside near the cabin because there were so many mosquitoes. I realize this is not the owners problem.

This bay house is so beautiful and quiet. I enjoyed the view all day, and my family and I enjoyed paddling at the bay in the afternoons.

I do feel like the owners tried to make it homey with cute little cabin touches, but the fact is that the house needs a lot of work and it should not be rented out, especially for the high price that I paid. We ended up leaving after a few days and found a new place to stay.
Why this rental is so bad:
I’m going to start with what’s missing and what isn’t missing: there is no dishwasher, washing machine, or sink disposal. Something that I didn’t know before I booked and I felt like it wasn’t really clear in the preview. The good news is that there are lots of ants to keep you company while you do the dishes. They are crawling all over the sink, stove, and bathroom.
The bathroom:
The bathroom is the worst part! The “shower” is not a shower. It is a claw footed bathtub with a curtain around it. The curtain sticks to you as you shower, making it the most uncomfortable shower you will ever take. The shower head is short, so you definitely can’t be a tall person if you want to take a shower here.
I was really excited to have a fun claw-footed bathtub, but as I filled up the bath water I noticed that the bath water was brown. I was so disgusted. So I don’t recommend drinking the water or trying to take a shower/bath.
The stairs are steep and scary to walk up. There are no curtains upstairs. The downstairs bedroom door has all windows to keep you awake and give you no privacy.
The only good thing: the view is pretty. Otherwise I don’t recommend this place.

I thought it was a little expensive for what we got. The outdoor furniture was not what was shown in the pictures and there weren't a lot of options for spending time outside. The toilet paper was like half and almost unusable. Sink and shower in bathroom didn't drain and shower water smelled bad. Just felt the price didn't reflect the experience. Location was pretty.

Great windows in the main room. Very “Maine cottage.”

Enchanting Cottage Any Traveler Would Enjoy
We fell in love with the Harpswell Bay Cottage the minute we stepped in the door. It was well supplied with more than ample room. For the experienced traveler that enjoys a good cottage - with well worn furniture like going to the home of a favorite relative, you will love this place. We loved the fire pit and secluded surroundings. It was a short drive to Brunswick or to Bailey Island. We will absolutely return with more family. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We all loved the cottage.
We had a great time. The view was gorgeous. With the heat wave we would have liked the screens to be in so we could open the windows. I would def come again. Great place to celebrate our daughter’s graduation from Bowdoin college.

Home for a weekend
We had a very wonderful time while staying at this house. It was very clean and in a beautiful quiet area. The only down fall we had was we thought we were right on the water. In order to be able to get to the water you have to go to the boat launch which is a short walk from the house. The pictures posted made it look like you could walk to the water on the front lawn which is not true. Overall a beautiful area and nice home away from home.

Wonderful cottage on the coast!
Perfect location, nice small town with good shopping close. Less than an hour from Portland and from New Habour where the PUFFINS are, clean and bright. Great experience all around.

Interesting house and pleasant stay
We enjoyed our stay in a quiet place. The view was very nice and the bald eagles perching nearby entertained us. It is true that there is little water access, and probably people should know that there isn't much of anyplace to walk; you really need to drive to a beach or water access or a walk. The house design was interesting, an enclosed wrap around of a much older tiny house. The woodworking was fabulous. There are curtains now, to correct an earlier comment, and the upkeep was acceptable. Too bad there wasn't a more appealing outdoor space and furtniture, but there are bugs, too, so it would probably go unused.

Loved it!
Needed a quite last minute place to stay after attending a work conference to get some work done and catch up with a friend. This place was perfect! The location, cast iron tub, woodstove, and setup of the home was exactly what I needed.

Deceiving...
The photos of this place were very nice online. First, this is water front, not beach front. You can’t walk in to this water or swim in it. Second, everywhere you step is mud, even through the grass. Peppered with mosquitos. Third, I got extremely hurt here, my foot went through a rotted step in their staircase. Half my leg went through a set of stairs. Just below my knee, I have a bruise bigger than my hand. Bigger than a softball. I weigh 130lbs and am 5’5”. The board was totally rotten. I did get a call from someone after leaving a note there because I was given no contact information. An apology and asked to fill out an incident report. I spent so much money on this vacation just for two nights and now I am down and out with the worst bruise I’ve had in years. Wish I could upload the picture. I will call the number back tomorrow to fill out this report.... I’m assuming it will be to cover them, not really me in anyway.. I also paid extra money just in case anything broke, damage, whatever. Kind of feel like I am the one owed money...... For how
much I spent, I do not feel it was worth the pain and the location I thought would be nicer. The cottage itself is very quaint and cute. PS. They absolutely do not allow smoking on the property, anywhere. Not even outside.

Sweet Cottage with water view
We stayed four days over thanksgiving in this snug little cottage in Harpswell. Rustic, yet warm and spacious, with gorgeous light pouring views of the tidal New Meadows river. Neat as a pin, with comfy beds, (sleeps 6 comfortably) a homey, well-appointed kitchen, and shabby chic decor. As already commented on by previous renters, the cottage is not for those that are sticklers for their privacy or like to sleep late, as there are no curtains. We early risers didn’t find this a problem, in fact we saw eagles and kingfishers with our coffee. Bring binoculars!

A wonderful home
We loved being here and were very grateful for the beauty, charm, and cleanliness of the house. It was very welcoming, and very true to the photos on line.
Things to know: there is a wonderful separate small building for "yoga and meditation. "
There is a long gorgeous wall of windows, but no curtains or blinds, so if you want nighttime privacy, you will need to problem solve!
The water is very sulphuric so it will have a strong smell and you will want to bring bottled water for drinking.
It is a beautiful neighborhood. If you are looking for more outdoor activity than a short walk, you will need to drive.
People in the neighborhood seemed very kind, though there were not that many around! (Which, for us, was nice.)

Bright cozy cottage
The Harpswell Bay house was a wonderful accommodation for our weekend getaway. Homier and more polished than the average Maine camp, it was easy to relax and enjoy the incredible setting without having to rough it. The house had plenty of space, was well stocked, clean and comfortable. It was a real pleasure for us and two friends.
Keep in mind its location on the New Meadows River means you should bring potable water for your stay. The water is naturally sulfuric but it's a small thing to work around. The outdoor shower was a nice added amenity, and there's good water access at the nearby cove. Highly recommend this house!

Cute place with great amenities and location
My only complaint is the water: very strong sulfur smell made it undrinkable and left a residue on my skin. Bring bottled water!

Great, cozy house - but NOT suitable for people with allergies!
This house is great in so many ways - but it is NOT suitable for people with air-born allergies. Anyone allergic to dust/mites, animal hair and mold will not be happy here. It is a lovely house, old and cozy, but with that comes dust and moisture (the house is located close to the water). So I and my brother - we both have allergies - had to move out of the house within 24 hours because our allergies were going through the roof! My parents, however, had no trouble at all and stayed in the house. So I personally wouldn't rent the house again but I would recommend it to anyone who has absolutely no allergies. It's great value for money and the house is located in a lovely spot, with a view of the ocean. The interior is lovely, too, a perfect cottage with three bedrooms, all very nicely furnished.

Quaint and Quiet
If you want a location that is very quiet, beautiful and filled with rustic charm, this is the place for you. The many windows made the cottage feel bigger & very open. There wasn't much privacy though because there weren't any curtains or blinds except in the downstairs bedroom & bath. We felt safe. A couple of days were warm but I made it fine w the windows & doors open & used the provided fan. The cottage is a little ill arranged w the bathroom on the opposite side of the bedroom/living area but we made it just fine. If watching TV is a big deal to you, they have a small one w satellite service & DVD. We loved the quaintness of the cottage & wondered it's history. The twinkle lights added a nice ambience to the quaintness but we were a little disappointed that half of them were burned out. My husband, an experienced traveler & I are giving this cottage 4 stars based on the following suggestions: the screen on the back door needs attention (Opening this door on the warm days would have been helpful but the mosquitoes were bad & the screen is detached. There were newly purchased kitchen dish towels but no kitchen dish cloths. They would have been nice to have to use instead of the 1 sponge. Some of the cooking utensils (egg turner) needs to be replaced due to rust. Some of the light bulbs (other than twinkle lights) were also burned out. It would have been nice if the dishwasher was working but I used it as a dish drying rack instead. The freezer in the refrigerator needs to be defrosted (the refrigerator was freezing some of our fresh produce & I could barely get the freezer door open to put my ice in because of the buildup). We brought our own drinking water so I'm not sure how the water tastes. The water in shower/bath has a funny smell.
Overall The cottage is full of rustic charm w an antique tub and furnishings. During the week, It has been very very quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We had a pleasant experience & loved the island. We highly recommend The Dolphin Marina for a place to eat. Vacasa was easy to work with & answered questions about the cottage as needed.

Picturesque, but remote
Rustic cabin, much more suitable for two than a larger group. The upstairs bedrooms are extremely noisy and are at the top of very steep stairs. Dishwasher was not working. You need to arrive with all your food because there is only very limited food within a reasonable driving distance.

GREAT place to stay, couple of very minor things
Loved the house. Great setting, ample room for guests for sitting, eating and relaxing. We had a wonderful stay, everyone slept well, and the setting is amazing. The only issues were minor, and didn't impact the rating, but worth mentiong: 1. Google maps directions did not find the specific house. We figured it out, but a description of which house in the circle it is - especially if guests arrived after dark - would be helpful. 2. Several screens - including one of the door screens - in the house were full of holes, so windows could not be open due to mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are unavoidable in coastal Maine, but intact screens would have been nice.

A delightful cottage by the sea
This was a sweet, cozy place to gather two families for an event in nearby Bath and Brunswick. Wish we'd had more time to linger. Needs dishtowels, and curtains wouldn't hurt if you don't want to get up with the summer sun. Otherwise, grand.

Great rental home in beautiful Maine!
Such a quaint and lovely little home! Quite comfortable and beautiful surroundings. We would definitely love to rent it again.
