About this apartment rental
Red Cat House is a one of a kind vacation rental apartment in Taos. When inquiring about vacation accommodations in town, an often asked question is 'Are you walking distance from the Plaza?' Red Cat House is unique in that it across the street from the Historic Taos Plaza. In fact there are Plaza, town and mountain views from every window. This apartment offers convenience combined with a peaceful and quiet, spacious yet cozy, home away from home for one or two guests.
Red Cat House is located on Dona Luz Lane, 'The Garden Street of Taos' (landscaped by me, a professional landscaper) This street boasts a wonderful variety of shops and restaurants. It was once the 'Red Light District' in town and La Dona Luz was a madame.
Entry is down a little brick pathway surrounded by blooming plants with original outdoor art on all walls and an outdoor seating area. Upstairs is Red Cat House-a wonderful intimate world of its own. You will discover antiques, color and light, original art and whimsical touches in your own private little world.
The sunny eat in kitchen is well equipped for morning coffee, a gourmet breakfast or a romantic dinner for two.
The living room is a perfect spot for lounging with a comfortable couch, lamps, a flat screen TV, DVD's, books and a selection of music for just that right mood. Enjoy dinner at an 18th century walnut tilt top table for two looking out over the Plaza with a view of Taos Mountain in the distance. If you need to do a little work (not too much I hope), there is high speed internet available and a desk where you can write about your wonderful Taos adventures or even compose a spontaneous love poem if so inclined. Many of my guests enjoy my record player and collection of albums.
The sunlight bathroom has a large shower, lots of towels, robes for two and some fun touches to discover.
The bedroom is so very special with an antique queen size, pillow top, four post teak canopy bed, down comforter, fine linens and lots of pillows. I even have an electric mattress pad for chilly Taos nights. So nice to climb into a warm bed.Hang your clothes in a tall mirrored English oak armoire. The bedroom is cozy with a gas log stove. The multi paned windows are screened to allow you to enjoy our wonderful mountain air that just invites snuggling-so cozy and romantic.
Summer visitors will enjoy window air conditioners in bedroom, kitchen and living room. There are also ceiling fans in living room and bedroom.
If you can tear yourselves away from the comforts of Red Cat House, all of Taos is just outside your door. You are within easy walking distance of all Historic District shops, restaurants, galleries and museums. You may browse my "Melissa's Picks" found in the apartment or just ask me for suggestions about 'All Things Taos'. Ask me where to go for live music and special events during your stay so you can meet folks who enjoy life and all the richness Taos has to offer. I enjoy sharing the charms and stories of our town with visitors.
Although this apartment is right downtown evenings are quiet; an advantage of these old Taos buildings with thick adobe walls.
Red Cat House has so much to offer. This is a little slice of Paradise in Taos-the perfect vacation spot you will always remember.
p.s. No significant other at the moment? Red Cat House is a perfect solo vacation spot too.
As with all of my properties I am dog friendly. $10 per night per dog. You may leave on dining table upon departure. I provide dog sheets for sofa and bed. Please use.
PLEASE NOTE: Even if my calendar shows a reservation for your dates take a look at Vrbo 513557 or Vrbo 598600. Both are similar apartments on the same street.

Loved the location.

Very nice, spacious condo with typical Tasos adobe style . Location could not be better, right off the main plaza and walking distance to several museums and interesting restaurants. We particularly recommend Lamberts where we had our 40th anniversary dinner. The food, the wine, and the service was excellent, as was the tree-shaded patio.

We were so happy to have found the Red Cat House to rent out for the week! Super cute and comfortable, a block to the plaza and so many shops and restaurants within walking distance. This is our first VRBO experience and we will definitely use it again!

Nice apartment, clean, close to downtown area.

We enjoyed our stay at the Red Cat House.

The apartment is right on a parking lot, and there are lots of police and ambulances that pass by at night. It was clean but smelled and felt really old and dusty. And my car was broken into at nite.

Comfortable, cute and convenient

Loved staying here and would totally do so again. Right across the street from Taos square and within walking distance to everything. Easy access and parking as well.
The property itself was very cool with excellent New Mexican decor and funky vibes - everything you want in a Taos bungalow! This is an historic building dating way back so the charm is abundant. Also, an excellent garden space for taking in the morning/evening with coffee/drinks.
Will be coming back for sure.

We were there over the weekend. Easy walking distance to the square. Shops, restaurants, galeries close by.
Fun couples weekend spot!

Wish we could have stayed longer! This was just a stopping off place on way back home! Definitely need to spend longer in area. Was in a good location close to shopping and eating. Thanks Melissa!

Loved this place. It’s my favorite of Melissa’s places so far. Only recommendation I’d make is to have a pitcher or something like that to fill the cooler in the bedroom. It was time consuming and messy filling it up with a water bottle. Other than that, loved it. Thanks, Melissa! ✌❤️❤️

We very much enjoyed our stay at the property. It was as advertised.

Sandra had a bad accident July 29, and since we had trip insurance, tried to cancel the trip. We were not able to go to New Mexico.

This was a fun place to stay. The artwork and furniture made you feel like you were really in an art colony. Short walk to historic district and plaza with lots of restaurants, galleries and gift shops, and a good coffee place. Nearby Taos Pueblo is a must see.

the apartment looked exactly like it did online. It was in walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

Melissa is easy to work with, very attentive and communicative. The property is just as cool and groovy as the pics make it look. Absolutely fantastic location, view of the downtown and the mountains.
Highly recommend this.
Great stay.

Clean and safe property close to the plaza.

My friend and I stayed here for a night in Taos. Would actually be a great place to stay for a few days - the apartment has everything we needed. The decor is really fun with a strong southwest vibe. Everything is older, as to be expected, but worked okay.

perfect location nice layout

Overall - would not return. We stayed for 7+ nights.
Positives - awesome location near the plaza, the place is big enough for stays that last longer than a weekend, the charm of this place is awesome. It can be fine for a 1-2 night stay as long as you just need a place to sleep and enjoy the uniqueness of this place before the charm wears off.
Areas of improvement:
1) The plumbing is weak in the entire place and you are guaranteed to run into clogging issues especially in bath. The toilet makes a weird sound on water re-fill every time it is flushed. Loud that you can hear it throughout the place. Needs to be looked into urgently.
2. The kitchen supplies and amenities are weak. Sink is poor designed that makes it hard to use it for cleaning utensils. Hard to tell what are kitchen supplies and what are trinkets that are all over the place. It was really hard to make a meal and we gave up after first time.
3. The living room sofa is end of life. The covers are very rough and there isn't much support. Hopefully the hosts replace it for future guests. Looks fine in the pictures but nothing that you can put to use.
4. The cleanliness was average. We get that Taos is dusty and it can get windy which spread the dust around. That said, the cleaners left lot of places unclean. Example - The cutlery was dirty and we had to clean it before using it. The bath should be cleaned more thoroughly.
5. The bedding is average and can use an upgrade urgently

Cute little apartment - exactly as advertised. Quaint and eclectic with a fun vibe. Spent the long weekend skiing, and this was a great place to end the day and enjoy the Taos atmosphere. Would definitely stay again!

Very charming property in a great location. The only problem is deciding whether to stay in and enjoy the space, or head out to explore Taos! Either way, you can’t go wrong with Red Cat House.

Couldn't have been any nicer! Clean, organized, easy walking distance from everything downtown. Farmers Market on Saturday provided great treats we cooked with in the kitchen. Very spacious for 2 people.
4.8
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Red Cat House was spacious, pet-friendly, and perfectly located next to the Plaza. We walked to most of our favorite places. Melissa was super and quick to respond to any questions. We highly recommend staying.

Happy Independence Day
Had a nice stay for the 4th. Everything was nice

The property was as advertised, unfortunatly our stay was negatively impacted by a power outage which occured before we arrived. We did not have access to the refrigerator, microwave or hot water for showers, which were not repaired before our departure. Its a nice apartment, but we dont know how often these issues occur. We would not visit this property in the future.
