It was what we needed it to be — a comfortable room with two beds for our first night in the country. The room was larger than we thought and had a good amount of space for two people. We liked having the sink in the room, and later found out this to be very common in Iceland. Our room was right across from the bathroom which was great, too. The beds were probably our most comfortable in the whole trip. No complaints.
Our only complaint is that the parking out front filled up really fast, so we had to walk a bit with heavy bags, but it wasn't too bad.

Very friendly staff. Whole place super clean, quiet. Common spaces charming.
Our room was in a kind of basement floor. It was super small and very very dark. We didnt like it at all. Plus you could not open the curtains wirhout being visible for everyone who walks along the hallway.

The common room at this hostel is really nice, and the kitchens are well equipped. The rooms are spartan but comfortable - there is a nice comforter on the bed, and a sink in the room. There is a nice nes coffee machine in the common room. The hostel is right next to the university and a short walk to the city center. Staff are super friendly.
The shared bathroom is fine, but it would be nice if the showers had an area to sit and hang your clothes properly. The guests did not all use the common room courteously - some spoke loudly on videocalls. When I asked the staff, they said that people could use the room for whatever purpose. All that really means is that some people get to enjoy the room at the expense of others. It would be nice if you could also get wifi in the bedrooms - that would allow people to do videocalls in private.

Friendly staff that allowed us to check in a little bit early which was excellent. Good clean common areas. Comfortable beds, clean room, and I really appreciated having a sink in the room! The shared bathroom was always very clean and pretty empty with good showers. We didn't use the kitchen but it looked nice. The wifi worked well. Good location, not too far a walk from the city center. Easy to recommend!
Everything was good. Can't think of any negatives.

Location was good. The lobby was very nice and comfortable. The crew at the reception was very nice and helpful. There was a comfortable equipped kitchen next to our rooms.
The rooms are a bit small, and the shared toilets and bathrooms weren’t so clean.

First time staying in a hostel and could not have been happier. Loved everything about the place: main common area was lovely, with plenty of comfy chairs, books, games, and a coffee machine; the kitchen was large and well supplied with everything you might need; the bathroom was clean and the showers had amazing water pressure; the rooms were basic but very comfortable. Wifi was available in the common areas. The hostel is a beautiful 5 minute walk to downtown Reykjavik. We also took advantage of the bar/restaurant housed in the university and got a great food for a bargain!

Multiple bathrooms was nice to have as well as a good kitchen area.
The amount of noise at night. My wife and I were unable to sleep due to doors slamming (which woke me several times, even with wearing ear plugs and having a white noise machine running). This was frustrating for us because we were traveling home the next day and were hoping for a night's rest beforehand. I would want to be able to recommend Student Hostel to a friend, but I unfortunately would tell them to not stay here due to the noise and being hard to sleep. Also frustrating to not have WiFi in the individual rooms.

This was our second stay with the student hostel. Kitchen was well equipped, the room was comfortable. We were positively surprised with a private bathroom on this occassional as well. Staff were friendly and provided luggage storage while we explored Reykjavik on our final day in Iceland.

The hostel is in a convenient location (10 mins from BSI and the town), it's also right next to the national museum of Iceland. The room came with two single beds and a sink. The shared bathrooms were clean.

Due to my earlier arrival, I was spending one night alone at the Student Hostel while I attended the University of Reykjavik's summer programme. Having never been at the hostel before, I had no idea what to anticipate. But there are so many things there that I absolutely appreciated. Most of the hostel's amenities are pretty great, and it has recently been remodelled. My suitcase got misplaced at Vienna when I arrived on June 11. Due to my early morning departure that day, I was really stressed. The staff at the student hostel was incredibly lovely and welcoming. They advise me of the location of the closest store where I may buy necessities. Since my luggage came early in the morning while I was still asleep, they even picked it up the following day. For the remainder of my summer programme, I resided at the Student Hostel for an additional 14 days. The hostel is peaceful, and each floor has a kitchen and woman/man seperated bathrooms. The common areas are cleaned often so they are never unclean (well, the kitchen was occasionally dirty, but that was only because other residents neglected to clean it). Anywhere you like, you can request new bed linens and towels. You can borrow a hairdryer from the front desk. The hostel also has a laundry room. During my visit, I also took a few excursions, and the majority of Reykjavik bus excursion firms had the pivk-up option at the Student Hostel.
Some guests have complained that it would be wonderful if the floor in the room was cleaned by housekeeping staff while we were there. Additionally, since that was a summer school for me, I really missed the fact that the Wi-Fi connection only worked in the community area and kitchen, not in the rooms. Which is a little unsettling considering that some Americans use the community room to have a drink and chat while paying little attention to the other people using laptops there. Additionally, our room's sink was clogged from the start.

Doors slam early in the morning (other clients and cleaning staff).

Functional kitchen and helpful staff. Clean facilities and other guests are generally respectful. Comfortable rooms and great location close to city center.
Other guests could be loud sometimes, no wifi in rooms.

Comfortable bed, very clean shared bathroom and kitchen down the hall. There is a sink in the room and two single beds. It's a great value for Iceland while you still get a private room. The common room is beautifully decorated with a retro look, which is especially nice after staying in so many minimalist hotels in Iceland!
The location is pretty but it is a good 10-15 minute walk (through a peaceful park) from shops and sights. To walk there from BSI bus terminal, it was nicer to stay on the south side of the busy highway - take the pedestrian flyover and walk through the north end of the park before crossing the highway in front of the university.
